This includes blocks, items, entities and mechanics. You will require to only allow connections above the version which features you want to add. For example, if you want a 1.18 server, with the plugin I'm making you can have that with all of its features while running a 1.12 server for a higher server performance

I won't be adding the same world generation. World generation is it's whole other level of complexity that I don't want to get into, and it's also the very reason why servers are less performant. The plugin is there for those who wants to access the new features (blocks, items and entities). World generation won't be part of it. The biggest reason why big servers don't use the latest version or try to optimize is due to the price per performance they get out of it. For example, it would cost you more to host a 1.18 server for 100 players (for example) than if it were a 1.12 server

Have a server with 100 players. 10 chunk render distance. If you're planning on having all players at the same location, your server will run just fine. Have everyone at different locations, moving around, generating new chunks, etc, 1.12 will run better. For minigame servers it wouldn't be much of a problem. For survival based servers (which also happens to be what Mojang's focus is), it is a problem.

lunar cosmetics aren't based off of the server - you can have a lunar client open that isn't on a server, and run a vanilla mc client on a server and lunar emotes etc will still show
