Oracle docs can help a lot at learning and understanding java:

  • Start with this,
  • Breeze through this (skipping stuff that doesn't seem relevant like bitwise operators),
  • Hit this.
    They're the first three from this larger thing which you should definitely go through overall. But those three should be enough for slightly better understanding of what is happening here without feeling like a huge time sink.
    That one is a small part of this larger site wherein "Essential Java Classes" and "Collections" also have good useful stuff
