There are (i think) to reasons for making pull requests:

1. Make your repository have more limited access. This forces contributers to fork your repo, then they commit on their fork, then make a pull request dkim19375/remenceproject -> remence/remenceproject. This means that the changes I make on my fork, I want to apply to your main project.

2. Branches. If I have a branch, lets say recode, I can make a pull request, recode -> master. I can keep committing, people can comment on it, etc, people can also make PRs theirfork/recode -> mainrepo/recode which will also apply on that pull request. Once all the changes have been made, you just merge it into the main branch
