Well from what I understand the provider I use has preinstalled jar files you can select. If you so choose, you can pay a lot more for your servers in order for them to support 2-3 threads as opposed to the singular pretty much every server does provide.

when you port forward, I believe you choose which port you would like to open for everybody to access.
Let's say I wanted to port forward my IP (162.231.7.95 NOT REAL), and wanted to open my 25565 port (the default minecraft server port), I would port forward the 25565 port so people could connect to it via 162.231.7.95:25565
