Recently my city had a major power outage, around 18k homes without electricity, and it kind of reminded me to maybe invest in a UPS for my homelab server, but then was wondering if there is even a point if my whole apartment building loses power, because even if my server, router and switch stay on, does it matter? Is there some equipment further down the chain that would still be offline. Any ideas? Not really familiar what happens outside my own little network

the main goal of a ups is to give your setup enough time to safely shut down, rather than suddenly dropping everything and dying

that being said, your internet is usually still available even during a power outage, so if you have a UPS for your server and router you could still remain operational for a few minutes

you can get a ups for like $150-200 that keeps that powered for a long time

I wrote a greedy meshing algorithm with shulker boxes

you need to have a texture pack that makes them fully invisible tho

basically you give it a resolution and it generates invisible shulkers that attempt to match the shape as closely as possible

while minimizing the entities created via occlusion culling and greedily making the biggest shulkers possible

I got more work to do, I wanna stop actually spawning entities and instead use packets to send only the needed entities
