I believe its still the go-to for higher counts, but its only worthwhile IMO if you've got the time to dedicate. Plugins need to be supported or even rewritten.

I'd only recommend it if you've got the budget to host & the time/money towards custom development. Of course it makes sense if you're a large network already

But for PlayMC I wanted to use Folia, just sadly cannot warrant the $200+ a month hosting bill upfront + the custom development time

I think it comes down to the upfront costs associated vs down the line costs - I'm sure Folia is cheaper to run with 1 instance vs multiple smaller Paper servers.

I'm certain you still might have benefits from using Folia on a 8 core machine, but that depends on what players are doing on the server

Exactly, so that goes back to where I got the "$200+ a month" from for a typical server. E.g. Survival if players are loading chunks and doing stuff

OVH is $181 a month (ok, $20 a month less than my original target). I know Hetzner has slightly cheaper but comes down to player location, as I believe they've only got German and Finland locations

Thank you!! It's made with a plugin called ToolTips. We already have a ton of dialogues that are chat based so moving them all over shouldn't be too hard. I'm working on automating the NPC-head image though!
