#Request: "Deselect Target" or "Clear Target Selection" Keybind

There are some cases where I actually would like a deselect target keybind.

  • Torching on support characters, but I have a squadded asset selected. Torching in general too, such as just running errands, but I get stopped because I am not allowed to "attack" Ring World.
  • Trying to move around on Zerker using the Enraged Engagement device, but I am not allowed to "attack" things like AI bases and players in protected space due to the physical warhead hit on it. Especially true for when selecting an AI base, autopiloting to it, and then using the Engagement Device to gain speed.
  • Selecting nothing so I can not accidentally shoot something.
  • Dry firing (for fun, screenies, demonstrations, testing, etc.)

I do not think this function needs to have a default keybind, I just think having it as an available function would be an amazing QOL benefit.

would be nice, the current workaround of tossing anything, selecting it, and scooping it is a bit stupid

I often toss something select and scoopt it... it sucks

Yeah, it's a silly workaround and I think it should just be supported.

Added to Backlog.

anther usecase is sometimes if you accidently have something selected like an allied drone and scoop it tells you of an error, forgot if it actually blocks scooping

only if within a certain distance if it does but unsure.

"You can't attack a member of your squad." when trying to torch 💢

that error makes me want to attack my squad 👿

That's not an acceptable workaround for the intended purpose (doesn't clear your targeting), and also, doesn't exhaust the case of no enemies in the gal.
Also, Tab has a weird function where it doesn't go to an enemy on the first press. It will select an ally first.

#

There are different behaviors when you have something selected and when you have nothing selected. Players want to be able to clear targeting entirely for those cases.

It's... weird

#

I don't have a scientific description, but I know I have a habit of pressing tab twice

#

Guess I could try real quick, find a gal with forgones or something

I think you'll need actual allied player ships as bots are in their own category

autumn glen
#

Yeah I have a few alts in here

#

Lemme reword that

#

With an ally already selected, pressing Tab once will indeed cycle to a non-ally target and be restricted to those

#

But what if there are no other ships? I want to clear my targeting entirely

#

That's why we request the clear targeting lol

autumn glen

@mortal geyser I found the behavior I was describing. If you have nothing targeted, pressing Tab once first selects an Allied ship, and then a second press will target non-allies properly.

For shm thats torching a lot its not just tab

#

Every time you swap from torching to healing and visa versa you gotta change selection and weapon

#

It may just be a skill issue of not playing shm enough tbh

#

I want torch ideally let me fire even if I select a homie

#

In squad instances

#

I feel like im offtopic btw mb

Maybe the solution is to remove the targeting from torches? They are a weapon but I haven't found a use case to fight with em.

wet copper

They probably should be supers
