Insane that a game that popular has such limited official merch, and none of it is that interesting. Also crazy how sometimes the unofficial merch is sooo much better than the licensed stuff.

So, when a toy company, or a collectible company wants to make something from a license, they go the owners of that license, and try to get the rights to produce the product. (Sometimes it's the license owner that goes to the collectible manufacturer but that's a different story) The rights to produce that toy/collectable/comic/shirt whatever comes with a cost, either upfront, or residuals sometimes both. In a lot of those cases the license holder has the right to pull the product from production. (which I've seen multiple times) either due to cost, or because they don't like what it looks like or really for whatever reason their contract stipulates.

In the case of RDR2 my best guess is they have a high license fee and/or they just don't want other companies to (officially) use their license for items that are not "on brand" .

While people like you and I sit here and go, 'Make this cool thing! I'll give you money, just make it!'

Keep in mind this is just from my perspective from what I've seen happen. This isn't always the case. Sometimes it' just no one has reached out to just...ask.

I'm under the impression companies (license holders) have to sign off on everything, they receive prototypes, it goes through revisions until they're happy. I think Rockstar must just be stubborn or not really care. or like you said maybe they're just asking too much.

I'm also under the impression that a lot of manufacturers end up folding because they rarely come out on top with these deals or go through a crazy bidding process that ends up hurting them

Cheapest ebay copy of a wii game for a time was a sealed version, messaged the seller asking how easy it would be to break open and if they wanted it to go to a collector-only home.
They advised me to just look for a use copy.

I like keeping some things in goo condition like cards and toys, but stuff like games and comics? Those were meant to be played and readand hot damn that's what I wanna do
