Nice work, i notice you're doing just upstrokes when you play, i wouldn't really reccomend doing that, its fine but might hurt you in the future learning other techniques, if you can try doing downstrokes or alternate picking that might make it a little easier to consistently do it. if you need me to explain more of what i said let me know

Figuring out how to combine orchestra and metal is twice as hard because I have no idea how to do orchestra.

Right now clarity is just not there for every instrument except for the drums maybe, yet I want for both the guitar and the brass (and then I also plan on doing hysterical choir via synth-v) to be heard clearly, yet right now both aren’t very sound.

Because I do remember in the past that myself had some trouble finding some songs, so if I was "me" I'd think it would be a really cool thing.

Similar story with Kreed Maykr's boss themes. Especially noticeable in the bridge of Divine Retribution are the stressed bowed strings that are otherwise heard in tracks like From the Ashes and Unchained Predator. I couldn't initially make out these elements in the OST mix, but it's crystal clear in the game files. Completely missing from the OST is that awesome phaser effect in the first verse. Similarly, the mix for Wither & Writhe features piercing synth textures that I couldn't make out in the OST. Overall, I prefer the game file mix for that cool chugging riff after the intro and first chorus. Just great stuff

People can think what they want for TDA’s ost but there are good arguments that even its ost is without Mick Gordon, it is still better than most of the osts on that list and the games that appeared last year

Kaixo and Geoff are talented music producers who make stuff they're passionate about. It's incredibly disrespectful to refer to their work as "making a quick buck" off of someone else's stuff.

Mate, they only got popular by replicating Mick Gordon’s sound and using the fallout of the DOOM Eternal score and the disappointment surrounding TDA’s score to get views. Suggesting otherwise is flat out wrong. In the case of Kaixo, he doesn’t credit Finishing Move and frequently lifts melodies from Mick to “make Finishing Move’s work better” (see his Unholy Siege remix which is just Cultist Base). His most viewed video (a remix of Unchained Predator) just slaps a synthesiser over the top of the track. It’s lazy hack work. Kaixo has no respect for the hard work that went into TDA’s score

Yes, I have. I’ve also listened to Kaixo’s other works. When not replicating Mick Gordon, they have the capacity to create unique work. But that still doesn’t distract from the fact that they got popular from Mick Gordon’s name and style of music production. No one knew who Geoff was until he created Fall of Davoth, a heavy-handed Mick Gordon inspired replacement for Andrew Hulshult’s composition

I think there's just that creative/curious urge to take something apart and see how it works
whether you enjoy the style or not, Mick's mixes and production are extremely intricate, so there's a lot of layers to unpack and analyze how they were made and how they fit together

I've done it occasionally just to see if I could, but most of the time I'm more interested in sounding like myself 🙂

Wouldn't say thrash, but I do love how you made a classic have more of a cyber electronic style sound that could fit perfectly within the game. Kinda like an incredible mix of Tron and Rammstein. Once I was told that they were not electronic, but rock in MIDI format because is what they have at the time, which makes a lot of sense, eitherway I know where you are coming from since MIDI is inherently electronic 😅

How do you get the guitar to sound like that? What software are you using?

oooh it was a looong journey.

Right now I use Shreddage 3 Argent as a sim and Fortin Nameless as distortion with two The Only Thing They Fear is You IRs I found somewhere on the internet. Both are pricey ||but can be cracked||

Then I did heavy EQ-ing on both the guitar and master. Hard to explain how exactly, but part of this was Pro-Q’s "Match EQ" option, which I matched with BFG 10k’s guitar only sections (well, they also had some synths but I tweaked the resulting EQ to my taste)

That sounds very complicated, but the results are evidently worth it. I own the same Schecter 9-string Mick had, but I’ve really struggled getting the guitar to sound right using FL Studio

but I imagine you know that. It's like the first thing everyone learns these days 🙂
and I guess I don't care too much about making my tone sound like anyone in particular. As long as I have something that suits the style I'm going for. I mean, Andrew and David had so many different guitar "colours" in the TAG soundtrack and each one of them fit what the game was trying to do 😉

most plugins and gear are designed to go well above and below the amount of gain you actually need for whatever sound they're designed to make
I use one of these for my most seriousest metal tones and I've found the optimal gain for most recordings is with the knob around noon
turn it all the way up and it just blurs itself into a mush of screaming nothing
I mean I guess you could try to do black metal that way. But that doesn't sound like it's what you're going for.

with plugins you've also got to deal with your interface levels and then figure out what kind of input level the plugin is designed to sound best with, before you even get to the amp gain
good rule of thumb on the interface, at least, is to get the signal as high as you can without clipping. The plugins can be harder to figure out 'cause they're not all the same

if you're lucky maybe there's a manual that will say something but when I've used plugins I've usually had to just experiment and figure it out 😛

I still play around with them once in a while but ultimately I usually prefer having at least one instrument I can play without a mouse 😄

You should watch people like Josh Middleton and Nolly Getgood. They will provide you sooo much information about guitar production and just metal mixing in general.

If I had to give ya a tip, you don’t need that much gain as you think. You’ll lose a lot of the clarity which is not ideal to say at least.

EQ and compression is the thing you really need to understand for pretty much everything, and always adjust these two while listening to the overall track not solely by itself. And you should remember this; a “good” guitar tone can be shit if you put it in a mix, but a shit guitar tone can be excellent if you put it in a mix context.

Eh, they’re not really that similar. They’re both in 3/4 and they were probably composed quite early on in the game’s development as glory kill stinger stems are present in each suite, but that’s just about where the similarity ends

It depends on the theme of the according location. Central Processing and Computer Station don’t give heavy distorted bass synths, they feel more delicate and "thin" to me, like tiny currents going through circuits

Nuclear Plant is my most probable option because it both is a location that gives off precision (‘cuz you kinda want everything to work like a clock in a nuclear reactor yk) and weight, with massive cooling systems and maintenance machinery

Yeah I'm still experimenting with it. Couldn't turn the chainsaw into an actual MIDI instrument so I need to manually edit the sound it creates. I found that bandlab and n-Track studio work well together.

I use n track for the fine tuning, then use bandlab for some extra effects to help exaggerate what I want to emphasize

The guitars and drums sound best for me. I can tell you took a distortion guitar and used some sort of overdriven guitar on top of it at some parts. That layering adds some neat texture for certain parts of the song which is nice.

Drums progress well throughout so thats also good. The synths and bass sadly didnt feel very smooth but thats about all I could complain about 👍
