Like, you’d have people down there whose only contact is with other ice core drilling outposts, and then all of a sudden, Lars Ulrich
I would cry /s
Idk if this is a good place to ask but I suppose I don't really have anywhere else lmfao, is there any free synth plugins anyone would recommend for metal?

I'd reccomend using vital as a base, and putting it through various other effects plugins (reverb, compression, distortion, guitar amps, envelope filters, chorus)
I'm not the best at this but this is something im working on right now
I have 2 instances of vital, one is the actual notes and stuff, another is a burst of white noise for better attack, then into reverb to sound a bit bigger, then one audio gate for making sure it doesnt last forever after it stops, then another to mess around with as it gives different sounds, thats feeding into a guitar amp which makes it really distorted, compression because i like how it sounded, and then eq to better shape the frequencies if i need to
turning some of the effects off to show how they shape the sound

Np man, it's a miracle all the free stuff out for music production
patiently waiting for a doom eternal music mod for doom TDA
putting immora over Final Battle is so much more satisfying than the same kind of heavy metal i heard 20 levels ago
well it's called a motif sir
Made another ReMicks, because the last one was so well-received https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TanIDqaQRkE

This ReMicks was heavily inspired by the sound of DOOM 2016. And because the original version is quite limited in terms of variety, I decided to take a bit more creative freedom with the different sections. It took a lot of time and effort to make this one, so I hope you enjoy!
Awww but now I can't hear the crisp bells anymore

corso by tyler the creator but its the doom soundfont / doom sfx
Ladies gentlemen and enbies of Doomcord, did I cook
needs like a really heavily distorted synth down the middle when the drums come in, id say at first only hit the first notes of the riff with that synth, but then when the riff changes up, then have it a complete match
itll be a nu metal thing to do, if you for some reason don't like nu metal
Fuckin love nu metal, thanks for the tips, man
np man, if you have like a 7 string guitar that'll work even better to contrast the synth which is higher up in comparison
MP3 Download: http://adf.ly/1aMkDg
seriously why would you want that anyway
We detected your video may be shaky. Would you like us to stabilize it?
HI FUNNY PICTURES THREAD
I don't have a 7 string, but since you said this I've been experimenting with a 6 string pitch shifted down 6 half steps. Song's in e flat minor so it works better this way imo, and it's been sounding pretty good
why no suno 😦
I have some nice Plutonia soundtrack covers there
ai art is kinda scummy when it imitates what people spend months trying innovate on
I'm yet to hear AI music that actually sounds good
There is lots of nice music. I would love to show you but somehow this is not possible on this channel. What a shame really
Oh this crap again. There are people who do that with ai too
And these are then the much better songs
Effort is rewarded here too. Its always the same with people having no clue but shouting 😞
What you're saying is using Ai to assist the process, i have little qualms with using ai as a portion of the process, but little people do that, most just replace the process with ai
Yes some dont even write own lyrics. But thats not everyone. And its frustrating that people put everyone at the bottom of the barrel
https://youtu.be/QsCxt00vwJQ Something I made, it's basically Quad Machine on the Sega Genesis
I recently played through Quake II again, and it made me wonder how Quad Machine would sound on the Sega Genesis, so I made this. :)
Credit where credit is due, @MarkieMusic's rendition of Quad Machine heavily inspired my take on the theme. Go listen to it, it's really good: https://youtu.be/n3nKetZj4T8?si=ferPA2y_3GSnaZCr

Hey everyone, I have been messing around with Serum 2 lately and it’s pretty good at emulating guitars through synthesis. I whipped up this little tribute to ‘Sandy’s City’ as a test. Let me know what you think!

I fucking love Author & Punisher.
Beastland is a 9/10 album.
Also why is there a 1 minute cooldown on a channel that's barely alive..?
I need to listen to more of Author & Punisher.
I think I might love them as much as Skinny Puppy.
Also need to check out more Godflesh and Fange.
Fange mentioned
. Hella underrated sludge metal
I don’t know if this is allowed, but since I’m making a song dedicated to doom as a whole (especially with dark ages out) here’s a guitar riff I was working on for it
Favorite album?
Deciding on wether I want to listen to Fange, Author & Punisher or Sodom when I'm off my lunch break.
I do kinda hate how my brother at times tries telling me what " good " metal is, when he's purely nu metal and metal core. And really just listens to Hollywood Undead.
Nu metal like mushroomhead not Korn & Mudvayne
Either their debut for the neanderthal or Perdition for the industrial vibes
But really i dont think they have a bad album. So I'd start at the beginning and check out the evolution of their sound
@flint turtle
What industrial metal bands would you recommend?
Want to dig further into industrial, since it's one of my three main favorite genres of metal.
@flint turtle
Listening to Fange's first album.
Loving it already
Honestly I'm not that deep into industrial. I think my favs are probably Nine inch nails and Strapping young lad, but those definitely aren't hidden gems. So feel free to recommend me some, I'd love to dive deeper into the genre
Will do.
Strapping young lad I also need to listen to more
Wish I was high while listening to this. Lol
Oh you are gonna wish that even more going deeper in their discography
@flint turtle
Ever listened to Inquisition, DeathSpell Omega, or Candy?
mods if you were to delete this, it would be nice :)
i came in expecting bad stuff based of yariks message, still got blasted
Inquisition - Ominous Doctrines Of The Perpetual Mystical Macrocosm (2011) - Full Album Subscribe : https://www.youtube.com/user/seasonofmistlabel?sub_confir...
the only industrial band i've listened to is fear factory 💀
not even nine inch nails or rammstein
Fear Factory is pretty good.
Love Descent
Industrial metal is one of the more wide range sub genres of metal.
You got stuff like Nine Inch Nails, 3teeth, HEALTH, Ghostemane, KMFDM, Rammstein, Marilyn Manson, Static X, Candy, Ministry, what I've shown and mention within this section of the server, and much more.
a bunch of randomly styled riffs inspired by E3M1 - Untitled just mashed together
Only Deathspell Omega. Gonna check out the other ones

I think they did "nail from the ashes" it is a really good doom song
Not all the music hits tho I think some of the boss tracks are undercooked. Hopefully, I know Alex is reading this, just like how Andrew and David took feedback, the team at FM will also take feedback and create smt truly special. And y'know, hopefully they aren't held back

Hello
one of my favorite songs from him
I thought the ending scene from DOOM: TDA was missing a bit of intensity so, as a 5,000 subscriber celebration, I decided to re-score it with my style of Argent Metal!

@south bramble do yu hear into sandys city in this?? Does this sound familiar?
what time stamp?
It's all over in the song but try 1:58
hmmm not sure
edit; i’m fast!
Have yu even heard it since yu played the preview lol
i like what lies below a lot so when i jumped to 1:58 and listened i knew exactly what part that was
Yes but you're not sure which song yu heard the reference? Y'know it might be the doom 2 cue track that they deleted
https://youtu.be/ECSL4ei7qrI?si=2En0jiSnrZfcMNAb?t=3m3s this has little parts that remind me of the harpsichord sandy’s city part - it’s not hebeth but here. a stretch? but maybe
you mean sandy for the what lies below part?

Uh may I have a timestamp
How did yu even get to hear blood red, was it in the dragon level, holy city?
it should’ve linked, did i type it wrong? 3 minutes 3 seconds
yea like goin through the barges
the doo doo doo part
goes up and down
@fallow egret do yu hear this? I can't for some reason
It's at 3 min and 3 sec
it was more prominent playing and jumped out at me for some reason. and it’s stuck with me
Eh, not particularly. It doesn’t bounce back to the root note enough for me to think it’s a deliberate Into Sandy’s City reference
I see👍
maybe it’s just the tone and rhythm of it that got me
Hell yeah, my fav

One of the most haunting renditions I've heard, I just imagine doomguys tragic past. This could be a banger main menu if it had like a drop
Sweet Dead Bunny has surprisingly become one of my favorite tracks in recent time.
Perfectly captures the emotions Doom Marine felt as he returned to earth.
I really think message for the archvile should be referenced st some point it could make a great ambient track, and it should also have a combat segment. It just fits, and it has never been referenced it's tragic, not even the Dave d taylor blues either! Both one of the most grooviest tracks and they don't get a bone
This might be heresy to some, but I think Doom's Gate is overrated and overused.
There's many other songs that stick out to me than Doom's Gate.
When I think of Doom, Signs of Evil and Doom 3's theme Tweaker comes to mind.
It is way overrated. And tbh, dark halls, as much as I love it, was used way too much. Used like 3 times in 2016 and used like 9 times in eternal and even used in tda. Like what abt all the other songs that we previously mentioned?? What abt waiting for romero to play? So many underrated and unused tracks
Same, I love dark halls to death but it's also very, very commonly used.
It urks me that Nu Doom fans seemingly only like the overused songs. And calls the actual more unique ones bland...
Then again Nu Doom fans taste in Doom music is so worthless. Take TDA for example. It's so damn good, but baby's first metal band keeps them from enjoying it. Lol
Ye tda also has parts in some songs where it plays a chunky e1m2 bass reminescent of the imps song, and at that point I jam. It's annoying that those aren't in the official ost either bc they rock no pun intended
Hey if yu are in here Alex, maybe consider this.
(won't ping ya tho)
Added Waiting for Romero to Play to my que.
Currently listening to Opening to Hell, Andrew Hulshult's version
Ohhh it references micks a lot
Opening to hell that is
What a nice acknowledgment by andrew whatta guy
It definitely references Mick's alot.
I think I actually prefer Andrew's over Mick's.
I haven't listened to idkfa in a while but wouldn't be surprised tbh
I believe this is the original.
Sounds so evil, atmospheric, and descalating sensation of dread. I luv it
https://youtu.be/zJ6c98nmv9U?si=AGbN0I-9dCgneTqG
This is the music from Map 30: Icon Of Sin entitled "Opening To Hell" in the PC version of Doom 2. It was recorded by Michael Massay on a Roland SCC1 sound card. Enjoy!! NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED!!
Now I'm listening to Andrew's version of Waiting for Romero. Then I'll listen to og.
They're pretty similar iirc
The og feels like Deja vu.
Maybe Doom Marine being in hell again, and his PTSD memories triggering as he stands steadfast against Hell once more.
https://youtu.be/TnzRBZd5_uA?si=HGMIMBGxnl_Gs9Yg
Bobby Prince: "This song was easily named. You wouldn't believe how people in the id Software offices used to line up to watch John Romero play DOOM. Long before the sound effects were in the game, John would provide his own, and he was good at making a lot of sound effects with his mouth. But, the reason that people lined up to watch him play w...
That's the one thing I don't understand about some people.
Them not thinking Doom Marine being in hell would take such a toll on him.
Seeing evil beyond humanly capable, too much for anyone to bear victim to
Who would be confused abt that lol
Oh wait jackseptickye
Wait, does he also fall into that group?
I thought he would be capable of understanding. I did grow up sorta watching him. He was my favorite youtuber as I grew up.
In his latest playthrough he went,
"Idk I just don't like seeing doom slayers more human side of him, I like it when he's badass and reacts to nothing"
I have no clue why he holds that opinion cuz he loves that Kratos gets to yap every 5 min but doomguy showing a little nudge of approval is "eh"
Maybe dementia lol /j
Saying boy every five. Hell yeah, Kratos.
Doom Marine literally having more emotion and empathy than most characters. Oh, that's so out of character.
Ye it's a thing I noticed with a lot of big youtubers, their opinions are really scattered and contradictary at moments, well cuz they're human, but it's like half their brain isn't registering what they're looking at
God idkfa running from evil is so good

This song started when I asked myself "what if I write music inspired by the Dark Ages trailer without actually listening to it?". I threw it together in a frantic couple of days and tried out a few new tricks. Turns out I was way off from what the guys at Finishing Move cooked up! I'm pretty exci...

I've done a Mick-styled argent song before but this one is more fast-paced, I'm not sure if it fits DOOM's mood enough or if it's too "groovy"
This one is almost complete, I just need to finish the ending, but other than that
For a better experience, I'd advise watching DOOM Eternal footage while listening to this song
@fallow egret one thing i love about music in videos is when i have the chance to make tracks flow into one another that dont normally do it. lining up the beats, paying attention to how the waveform looks and then muting my voiceover track and just making the track fit
HNNNNNG its so much fun
for day to day commentary i dont really do it, but on projects like this one, ab-so-lutely
it makes it mix flow from track to track and its so satisfying when it hits. simple, but effective
especially when you make it fit
@cyan sierra great chat today man
That was fun! Great to meet you 👊
you as well
itll be out soon, aiming for this weekend-ish!
Well hello there! didnt see you there, shoulda made yourself known man!
That’s a really awesome approach to video production. If I decided to delve into commentary, I’d for sure do the same thing.
I did rescore a scene from GvK using this approach though, and it was a tonne of fun. That was years ago though
my general commentary vids dont have it since theyre more straightforward discussion, but theres always a place for it!
though it really fits on this interview. just edited it. im really happy with how it turned out. been hittin it hard this evening!
music doesnt always just have to be a music bed. it can, sure, but it can also tell a story.
GvK, whats that?
That’s the way. I’m psyched to check it out! GvK is Godzilla vs. Kong, which I think Alex scored a trailer for? That or the newer film, can’t remember
without any biase, simply based on pacing and energy, which do you think fits better?

FUCKIN LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!! KMFDM SUCKSSS!!
For classic death metal, probably death's "sound of perseverance". For groove metal, gojira's "the way of all flesh". For more melodic metalcore (but still heavy af) johnny booth's "Moments elsewhere". For blackgaze deafheaven's most recent "lonely people with power". For progressive metal Mastodon's "Crack the Skye". For modern thrash King Gizzard's "Petrodragonic apocalypse". And if you just want to bash your head into a wall try God Complex's "he watches in silence". Those are just a few I could think of on the spot
Thank you king

Oh wait, Unleashed also @steady rune, that is the most perfect Sonic game I have played

From replaying the game like few months, the camera is definitely fucky.
Do think I am all of me overshadows the other songs. Despite how good it is.
All Hail Shadow is also headbanging although I haven't played Shadow the hedgehog game
All hail shadow is good too.
Listening to digital circuit, I love this song.
My favorite vocal track is prolly waking up
Game: Shadow the Hedgehog
Music: Lethal Highway

Been thinking of trying Morbid Angel.
I'll listen to those to get a feel for them, before delving into albums
oh yea too many good one to choose from however theres alot of bad ones too. immortal rites best on first, alot of good ones on 2nd and 3rd, some on 4th and 5th, past that its like 2 or 3 good ones they fell off
That's what I hear about with Morbid Angel.
Early material being best, cuz later on they lost it.
This was the first deathcore album I listened to, it made such an amazing impression on me, helped me get acclimated to really harsh vocals too

Maiden!! One of my favorite bands!
When i first started playing bass i was in love with Steve Harris' tone
Nowadays I'm more obsessed with John Myung of Dream Theater
Steve Harris is the reason why I started playing bass 5 years ago
John is wicked good
Steve Harris inspired me to get better at a specifc rut i was stuck in, I really wanted to play powerslave, but I couldn't fret that well, I kept on pushing with it though
One of my favorite John Myung basslines is Panic Attack https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cs8rkoouPSU, this specifc bassline is responsible for a very big portion of my improvement, I play the intro pretty much every time I play bass, which has really helped with that type of string crossing and overall speed

Panic Attack was one of the first Dream Theater songs I heard and yes the bassline in it is great
I actually first heard it in Rock Band 2😅
I think it was my very first, heard it in a lesson I was watching, after that I listened to awake because everyone on reddit said to, I didn't really like it, then a little while after I gave them another chance and listened to Train of Thought, fell in love with them after that.
I still think awake isn't a good album though, it has a few really good tracks but it's kinda boring, I don't see why people say its underrated.
I agree. I got into Dream Theater through Images And Words and that album is perfect in my opinion. But when I listened to Awake, I was very disappointed. It’s not bad but compared to Images it’s not even close as good
It's so hard trying to decide which of their albums is my favorite, Images and Words has really good singing, and its best songs are really good, like Under A Glass Moon and Metropolis part 1, but personally I like Scenes from a Memory, Train of Thought, and Octavarium better, since they're really consistent, and have my favorite songs of all time (Octavarium, Finally Free, and In the Name of God)
Scenes From A Memory is my second favorite just after Images And Words. I especially love the ballads on Scenes From A Memory
Finally Free's final chorus, when it strips back to just LaBrie and acoustic guitar hits really hard emotionally, combined with the context of the story of Scenes From A Memory, overall Scenes From a Memory does emotion really good, the ballads, stuff like the chorus to Home
I really like the repeating motiffs from Metropolis 1 and allthroughout the album, particulary the phrase "Metropolis watches and thoughtfully smiles, she's taken you to your home"

I love this song! Such a fun riff to play on guitar and Bruce’s vocals are epic!
I actually really need to get into more maiden, i've only listened to 3 albums of theirs, I got busy listening to a ton of other bands since it was around when I started listening to metal
Maiden were the first ever Metal band that I got into. I got introduced to Hard Rock with KISS, Van Halen, and Def Leppard. But Maiden is what brought me into the world of Metal. I pretty much know all their albums, collect their vinyls/cds, and I've seen them twice live. They mean so much to me
Bruce's vocals are definitely unique. Such emotion and ability to tell his songs in a way a jester would.
Him, King Diamond, Dio, and Tom Angelripper stand out most to me as metal vocalist.
Great list! I agree! I also put Geoff Tate from Queensryche, Sebastian Bach from Skid Row, and Blackie Lawless from WASP up there as my favorite vocalists too
They have a specific sound that is so timeless, no matter how much metal has evolved
I always listened to metal, but it was stuff like Slipknot, Disturbed, FFDP. Maiden is what truly got me into metal.
And Michael Sweet from Stryper can't forget his amazing high screams
I agree they always stay consistent with their sound which has helped them to become one of the best entry bands for Metal
I got into metal with the Doom ost, although the first band I listened to was unsuprisingly Metallica, since i have a friend who's really into them, like unhealthily, he was utterly dumbfounded someone liked megadeth better
Been thinking of checking out WASP.
If you wish, Wrath, send me the album you love most.
Ok. I recommend checking out with their self-titled debut from 1984 or their 1989 album Headless Children. The debut is kinda of the time with sleazy lyrics while the other album is more mature with the songwriting but both are heavy and catchy
What genre are they?
WASP are and have always been on the thin line between traditional metal and hard rock
Like some songs of theirs sound like heavier versions of AC/DC and KISS but other songs sound like full on Iron Maiden
I also like Megadeth more
I love Megadeth and Metallica equally
It's hard to decide, Megadeth does thrash way better, but Metallica has some really good moments, and better all around vocals
Anyways, I gotta get ready for work. It was great meeting you Space and Ghosty! Nice surprise finding some metalheads
intermision remake i spent like 15 minutes on
sounds weird because i recorded it on my midi keyboard and my software doesn't allow overlapping notes that start at different times

Prolly my favorite album, Wrath
Nice! It's my second favorite Maiden album just after Somewhere In Time
Think my second favorite might be Dance of Death or Book of Souls
Does this count as music (also happy Friday)
new muse single has some fire 8 string riffs https://youtu.be/jXmUJvNSSm0?list=RDjXmUJvNSSm0
‘Unravelling’ puts a new spin on the genre-clash creativity that has become a hallmark of the Muse experience. Haunting, arpeggiated synths establish a foreboding tone before it suddenly detonates into a colossal wall of barbed riffs and unleashing a full-drama hook that pulsates with their renowned maximalist theatricality.

@cyan sierra
I'm really sorry to bother you. I just wanna say I really appreciate what you've done along with the team for tda, the ost is awesome, and I hope you outdo yourselves when you're composing for the dlc. I don't really know how to say these next parts without being annoying, but I would really like, I think some others too, if you included more melodic parts into your ost. An example I like to give is Divine retribution, which is a great track. The riffs are on point, and recently, I discovered that it references Suspense from classic doom, which is rad as hell and deeply appreciated from us who recognized it. In 4:05, the classic doom riff is elevated by a melody, and it's one of the grooviest things I've heard in a doom ost. The reason why I typed all of this is not only to just marvel at the work the team has done, but where I personally think it could elevate itself, the melody in divine retribution is awesome but too quiet. It's hard to hear under the riffs and I just wished I could hear it louder along the riffs because it is genuinely good. I'm not saying you redo the song or selfishly impose that you give me the isolated stem. I'm just suggesting that we do appreciate when you go beyond the brutal riffs and crushing sounds, classic references and groovy melodies are welcome. In the end, whatever happens is up to the team, not me or anyone else. But seriously, I love this ost and y'all have cemented yourselves as great and authentic doom composers, I'm really looking forward to dlc.
For my fellow sabaton fans, we have album confirmation
Yall fw the Ultrakill soundtrack?
its fun, i particulary liked p-2's music.

Will def keep the feedback in mind! Final mixes are sometimes out of my control, but one of my fav things in music is the juxtaposition of something beautiful with something aggressive/dark, so I’m definitely a fan of those moments too.
That sounds amazing dude!!
thx
Is it just me or was some of the dark ages songs just underwhelming
Well some of them, but that's with any ost, especially doom
I don't jive with every mick song, same with this ost. But the team is very responsive

Holy crap
i mean tbf the pattern of e1m1 (2 times you hit the string without fretting it, then once with fretting it) is a very easy pattern to play on guitar, so it pops up often
Dinoheretic is mogging again
I mess around with it all the time when I'm practicing scales
My personal favorite variation is hitting one string once, then hitting the string below it twice, once you get the hang of it you can go very fast with it, one of my favorite examples: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cs8rkoouPSU, the intro of this mainly, the main riff goes down to just one string and does that earlier pattern

See now I know why the slayers theme is so ear wormy lol
Well done man
Y'know sometimes I wish your mixes were on spotify but I understand why not you gotta not overtake the composers and instead highlight their work. Alex told me final mixes aren't up to him either? So who is it up to do you thinkk cuz maybe that's why they're kinda short
It would be so cool if they "remastered" it on spotify to have the more unique sections but for now it's cut down. I feel bad
Other members, sound designer at id?
Oh that makes sense. Kinda sad why don't the composers decide? Is it part of the contract or smt
I don’t know much about the inner workings of Finishing Move’s relationship with id Software. I only know what I read in Mick’s medium article, that being an artist can be given the choice to sign a contract for an OST. That contract allots a certain number of minutes, and in the case of DOOM: The Dark Ages, that budget was 135 minutes. It was then up to Finishing Move to prioritise which tracks were longer or shorter and what stems are to be included. I’m not sure who dictates the final mixes, but I’d be willing to bet it’s the Brian’s
Oh man. Even then those mixes are awesome but I have a feeling that my ear buds are holding me back bc sometimes when listening to the tda ost, there are times where it drowns out and I'm starting to think I should use headphones and not earbuds. This is more apparent on youtube mixes too not spotify mixes. Does youtube
compress the ost or should I get better equipment. Are the flacs better to listen to?
What abt the physical editions coming out will they be different
YouTube is infamous for compressing videos uploaded to their platform. Physical media listened through an audio jack will always be better than listening through Bluetooth headphones on YouTube
Ohh I see, what abt those flacs are they any good
what if i put 11khz audio on a cd /s
It depends on what the audio is exported at really
What do you recommend
Personally, 48khz at 24bps. That doesn’t intrinsically mean that the audio quality is better, as in I can export a highly compressed snippet at the above measures and it will still sound like shit. It just doesn’t lose quality
Pristine quality lol
Oh damn I see. I think my best option is the physical media then. Do they usually change how the songs are structured, do they include different stems or is it just the official release but higher quality
Like 2016 I never got the physical media but was it different than the spotify release?
If its branded the same it should be the same musically
The OST as a product is the same. Consumer protection laws ensure as such. As a result, it won’t change from the available OST that’s on streaming platforms and whatever
Damn. I would've loved to hear the more unique bits that are missing in the official ost, I think I am considering the physical media still
I keep on thinking of compression in the context of audio effects and not audio data which is confusing me
Since the physical media won't be compressed at all. But since I can't really buy it now, what should I use, headphones or earbuds for youtube/spotify mixes
What matters most is the khz and frequency response they're capable of
ideal khz is 48khz, ideal frequency response is 20-20hz
I have a jabra or whatever it's called. I'm not sure of its capabilities
The box or manual usually has that info
Does it tell you online too, like if I ordered it online
It might
Alr I looked it up, it says it has a range of 20 Hz to 20kHz
I don't see any 48 khz anywhere

So… I decided to explore what DOOM The Dark Ages might have sounded like in my own style. Finishing Move’s soundtrack is fantastic, but as with any creative work, everyone hears things differently, and I wanted to explore a different take - a selfish one, really. Just something I personally wanted to hear in the game. It’s what I would hav...
I really like this but it's not very dark agey except the ambient with the chants. The combat sections sound like trial of maligog and immora mixed together not smt new. Ofc this is his style not him adapting to the game so I think David would do better than this. Riffs are on point but the synth is just overtuned for my tastes
Aristides 070r! Digitally tuned down for a darker sound. Swapped the pickup with a Bareknuckle Juggernaut.
Thank you so much

Industrial is closest to it, it has its own name though, argent metal, not sure how i feel about the validity of the genre
A thrash/symphonic hybrid. Argent metal doesn’t exist
Funny that Ryan Gosling dude told me that thrash doesn't fit
I said that thrash with orchestra fit really well under Davids vid and he jumped me
What too specific
Must be on a seperate page, from what i've heard of tda (i haven't listened to much of the ost yet) it doesn't really seem all that thrashy, again more industrial
I say thrash because of the similarity to riffs like Master of Puppets, September Song, The Devil in I, and so on. You could boil those down into death metal or black metal or whatever, but ultimately, it’s classic metal more than it is the experimental metal from the late 90’s into the early 2000’s
Clearly, he hasn’t played the Classic DOOM games. He’d probably turn inside out if he knew of decino, Stuart Rynn, Megasphere, Tristan Clark, Jimmy Paddock, Mark Klem, or any number of other extremely talented community composers
That album is in my top 3 of all time! Every song on it is perfect🔥
Honestly those type of people give off the feeling that Classic Doom midi composition is outdated which is a baffling opinion. It's all cuz I criticized one aspect of Davids new song. I really like Thronebreaker but don't you think that synth bring reused from the Trial of Maligog boss fight makes it feel more Tag then Tda? I gave it its flowers but they lashed out
Ehhh I think I like Lana Del Rey but this is a second
silence at the end is weird but i like it
personal favorite of mine
I feel like classic doom midis being dated is its appeal, it has limits, its fun to work within those limits
I guess what I mean is as an artform it is not dated or smt

Hey, i dont know who in ID Software to contact about this, but im working on a metal album inspired by Doom, Forgive Me Father, and other boomershooters, i have an idea for the cover art that i think is really funny but im not sure where ID stands on fans using depictions of Doom Guy, i know characterizations are okay but what about the slayer himself?
There's plenty of doom remixes that use the slayer, and the tracks from the games, original music not much of, if you're releasing it professionally on streaming services, itd be better to ere on the side of the caution
also did a double take seeing your name
why the double take
we're friends on steam, iirc it was because we played a match of mvm together
oh, lol, yeah i reconize the name, yeah i been playin other stuff, mainly vermintide and minecraft and making music
same, but with warframe and titanfall
trying to meshuggafy dark halls or smth
So… I decided to explore what DOOM The Dark Ages might have sounded like in my own style. Finishing Move’s soundtrack is fantastic, but as with any creative work, everyone hears things differently, and I wanted to explore a different take - a selfish one, really. Just something I personally wanted to hear in the game. It’s what I would hav...
im gonna be honest, I actually like this more than the stuff Levy did for TAG 1 and 2
now i will be hearing that synth interlude in bleed as dark halls...
this song is distracting me from finishing my ep (not as heavy, more progressive), i literally only need to do visuals for it
the whole piece is awesome, but the intro in itself is straight up fire
thanks
#music message
that was just the interlude, this is an (old) version of the intro, i've added the drums, and changed a few sound effects to make it a little more immersive, but majority is the same
Extended. Changed the riff before ambient guitar interlude
I would’ve liked to add something industrial there but I just can’t help myself but vomit with mid riffs, leaving next to none options for synth-y build ups/transitions
This is a BANGER

Made this At Doom's Gate cover in ultrabox today, Its short and doesn't sound the best but for my first song and being from memory, I think its pretty neat
@fallow egret i was making a mix of Divine Retribution and made a "discovery" you might get a kick out of
idk if its my mind wanting to hear something that isn't there but getting some mad countdown to death vibes from this one
(i also pointed out the Tweaker and Hodges motifs on your E1M1 video a bit ago, good shit)
No I think it's a reference to suspense, from Doom 1, if you go back a couple seconds before the melody hits
OOH great call
i still think the countd sounds awesome in my mix so i'm prolly gonna keep it but i might try and find a way to integrate suspense

this feels like it would translate pretty well to a MIDI/classic doom track
Waaaayyy too much is happening lol
i try to keep my mixes bombastic, my bad
i might try and find a way to sneak DOOM from Doom 2 into Wither & Writhe snrk
(yes this is a mix of both themes back to back to match the kreed fight)
does anyone happen to know how many 4 LP box sets of the doom 2016 ost got printed? i have one and im just curious
You mean the vinyl records?
yea
Oh, then idk, probably around 1000 or so
i got one off ebay a while ago and never really knew how many, i just knew they were kinda hard to find
Yeah the 4 record versions seem more expensive than the 2 record ones
i think the 2 record one are still on amazon even, but since they didnt have every song, i went looking for the 4 record set
Makes sense, do you have steam? Cuz if you have steam you can buy the 2016 soundtrack for $20
i like to collect records, physical media is pretty cool to me
I like physical games and stuff more too
Same i waste every penny on physical copies
Especially when the records have cool patterns or splatters on them
ONNNGGG man
@fallow egret
Is it me, or are the short vids on FM channel playing the ost pop much more than the official ost. Take "Into the Void", think abt that drop we all love, it's much better received on the short vid then the ost
@cyan sierra I actually do have a question Alex if you don't mind, is it sorta maybe possible that there is a difference in sound range between your short vids and the official ost? Idk if I'm going crazy, like that crazy drop from Into the Void, it has much more "range" in the short vid compared to the official ost. Idk am I hearing stuff?
I wonder why Jay and the two Brians don't have an account here I'd love to talk to with them aswell
That’s funny because it’s the OST master downgraded through video and YouTube compression 😁
Also depends where you listen to the OST! Apple Music does lossless, but Spotify is not.
What does lossless mean sorry. Wait so is Apple Music better? I used spotify
Lossless is full quality! I think you have to manually enable it once in Apple Music
Oh so I've been missing out. Also what I meant is during that drop, you can hear like a reverberating sound that stands out with the guitars but on spotify it's suddenly hard to hear. Should I make a vid Alex?
Or is that just how spotify is
At least when directly on iOS, yeah. You gotta enable it through settings. I am not sure where to enable it on the Android and web app versions. Not sure if you can enable it when listening through iTunes on Windows, though.

I'm about to get my first 8 string guitar, is there anything I should know before I rip and tear with it
Imma try apple music tho, just to make sure
I think a lot of that depends on personal preference. I’m a fan of the OST drop, which is why I preserved it in my mix. I won’t know as well as Alex, but limitations for certain songs can be attributed to the budgeted minutes for the OST. Steel Beyond the Grave is easily a 10 minute long behemoth, but per their contract, Finishing Move could only allocate 3 minutes for it
I'm not talking abt the mix, I'm more talking abt what my ear receives on the other end. Idk how to explain it I really wish I do but I shared both vids with timestamps to the drop I'm talking abt. The thing I don't hear in the ost on spotify is that reverberating eerie sound if that's how I can describe. I really wish I knew more
you play differently with the added strings even if you don't use them
Anyways, sorry for botherin' you Alex

Cool early demo of Doomguy's theme from TDA's game files. Judging by the title of the file, it probably would have played after Doomguy kills the Titan/Serf that arises from the portal at the end of Siege Pt. I. Because that was scrapped early on, so too was this. It would function as a pretty cool intermission track though

Hello everyone
I créat a playlist for the Unofficial OST Doom
No remix or just Argent Metal
Just music that is openly inspired by being unofficial tracks
Doom metal soundtracks over the years:
Doom 1&2 - Heavy metal plus some thrash metal put into the mix as well
Doom 3 (theme) - Alternative metal?
Doom 2016 & Eternal - Death metal, Industrial metal and electrometal
The song Untitled, as featured in the level Hell Keep, as played on a genuine SoundBlaster AWE64 in OPL3 mode. This song is actually first featured in E2M9, "Fortress of Mystery", but as thats a secret level that not everybody will have played, I figured I'd upload this under the first normal level to use it.
alt metal works yeah, its very TOOL in their alt stuff rather than their prog stuff
.fm
i wouldn't say d16 and eternal are death metal
Argent metal is the term
Industrial metal usually takes influence from either groove/heavy metal, or death metal, and the type of Fear Factory esque industrial Doom uses is more on the death metal side https://youtu.be/GfqcRQlFVpM?list=PLbskP5RAOv8iZNrpqyc12gQzhnOfmbpdO&t=10
Although the synths are very different than normal industrial stuff, and there's a little djent influence, which itself used to be called death metal, till metalcore popularized breakdowns https://youtu.be/Bed8NPkVHRQ?list=PLbskP5RAOv8iZNrpqyc12gQzhnOfmbpdO&t=157

It's like if Nine Inch Nails were death metal as well, that's how they would sound like.
Alright this sounds so aligned with 2016 and Eternal soundtracks. Minus the neurofunk and dnb part
Argent metal doesn’t exist as it’s poorly defined. Experimental metal is the correct genre for Mick Gordon’s DOOM music (with some exceptions, e.g. Rip & Tear)
Lol oook
not having this argument btw
It’s just because there’s nothing about “argent metal” that isn’t already an aspect of experimental metal, including the heavy-handed use of syncopation, mixed meter/odd time/polyrhythms, and synths as a melodic element. I’m here to inform, not pick arguments
thank you for mansplaining that.
You’re welcome!
Bro I don't care, It just sounds good in the game that it LOL
I'd agree with that, there's not much that differs argent metal from other genres, but I'm not sure how you would categorize Experimental metal, especially with the existence of Progressive metal, maybe just in the types of way they're unconventional? Prog is very heavy on syncopation and odd meters, and there are other ways to innovate.
I think Argent metal comes from doom fans who aren't into metal, though i can't throw too much shade i used to be one of them, who ig just glaze Mick Gordon so much that they wanna credit him with creating a new genre, and don't really have the knowledge of any music in the same area as doom
Generally speaking I agree. I think what separates prog from experimental is that synthetic element. Ultimately, the genre taxonomy here is equivocal. However, the use of “argent metal” to describe a sound that already exists just seems like double handling
There are 2 types of experimental metal that I know of: Progressive metal and Technical Death Metal
There's also jazz metal
is tech death experimental? i haven't listened to much tech death, deathcore is more my thing, but isn't it just more complex death metal?

I think it lies between raw form of death metal (aka brutal death metal) and progressive death metal. It has that balance from both sides. But I have heard bands incorporate melodic death metal into the mix as well. So it's kinda hard to label this term.
One common signature that makes technical death metal unique from other subgenres of death metal is the use of fretless bass.
To understand tech-death my recommended bands would be Beyond Creation and Death ( their latter 4 albums).

Hello everyone, I hope you're all well. I just posted a compilation of the best songs from the DOOM saga. I'd appreciate your support by watching the video.
Just that, thanks in advance.

Going into detail about something he’s passionate about = mansplaining, yea ok
I could go into detail at great length tearing someone's opinion down too but I don't have the energy.
Thanks for that days late comment though just to try and make me feel bad.
Homie was going giga nerd metal elitist mode to explain something extremely simple that I don't think anyone was confused about, and that I somehow doubt he is an expert on or is part of any nomenclature foundation for naming metal genres. It's just elitism, and it's just a way to explain "hey this metal sounds like the doom soundtracks."
If it isn't mansplaining, it's definitely snobby as hell.
TL;DR
You can disagree with the designation of something but you can do it in a way that is nuanced and doesn't make you out to be a dick. And I'm not talking about you, I'm talking about how they did it
Was mansplaining maybe not the word? Yeah sure. The message is still there tho.
No need to get defensive just thought it was an odd place to use that term
Have you ever heard of tact, ofc they're gonna get defensive with how you presented it
Well, I genuinely apologize for it then @fallow egret , you have a point Shane. His argument did come off as a bit condescending though whether it was intentional or not. Anyhow, I need to get back to sending work emails. Y'all have a nice day.
Yeah tbf I presented it in a smartass way, I apologize for that. Currently on the clock absolutely was not an attempt to start an argument lmao
We can all have different opinions and that's just fine, no need to completely dismiss others' is what I initially should have communicated
I also came off a little strong, and directed some of my frustrations about the conversation at you, apologies.
All my homies love de-escalation and admission of one’s mistakes
On a different note, I get to hang out with the band Architects next week, who are doing work with Mick Gordon.
You gotta tell me all about it fr
I will def

Sounds sick asf
Yeah I'm very excited. They don't come to the Midwest often
Architects??? Awesome!
Wait I thought Mick was working on Defect
He wasn't really going elitist, the argument is that there's already well fitting terms for the doom ost, and that argent metal doesn't really fit being a genre, as it doesn't have anything unique to it compared to e,g, Industrial
Ok ✌️
Ye we're all just trying to help eachother he meaned no harm. He also happens to have a real eye on the cool stuff and I can see him becoming a big youtuber, oh he's here hiiii
Can't fish react me if I do it myself
Yeah, I’m not really the “metal elitist” type. I’m just passionate about music and I like using the correct nomenclature. Same with my interest in palaeo
it seemed to me like it was more of an 🤓 erm actually it's this sorta thing.
Who cares if people make new terms, it doesn't actually matter.
I’m a big fan of Hanlon’s Razor and I feel as though a lot of misunderstandings could be quashed with this in mind. I genuinely mean no harm
Argent Metal is a neat term to look for it, but its kinda like djent,
djent is often a progressive version of another genre, metalcore, periphery fits pretty comfortable with prog metalcore, most modern djent bands do as well, djent would just be more a sound within a fusion genre of 2 subgenres, although there are a lot of djent bands, e.g. Meshuggah (who are essentially the forefathers of djent) who don't have any metalcore elements, yet are sort of the original form of djent
Actually no that comparison sucks i apologize
I know what djent is. I've been a vocalist for a decade and played guitar for half that time. If people want to say argent metal, why the hell does it matter if you know what it means
A name is something you use to describe something else to another person. If it's done accurately why the hell does it even matter unless you're worried about the intricacies of naming things?
the truth is, you're right it doesn't really matter, fun to talk about it though
The real question, when is someone gonna make a tda ost vid on how much classic references there are
Yes! They're my fave
Ok cool I'm glad we're on the same page then. I do agree it's fun to talk about, but I think it should only be when people are engaging in that discussion of nomenclature, otherwise it feels kinda snobby and rude
fair, I just am too old and tired mainly to have long discussions lmao
Maaaaan I just want that ost vid bruuh
When someone who has a ton of music theory knowledge and experience can find the time. That person isn't me, I just scream real good and sometimes riff around
I know and I've been waiting months
does the signal shine with my face on it.... i will need to contemplate
Do it homie, get that shit. If you have the skills, I'd love to watch the vid
If doom eternal got one, tda deserves one(do dlc too when it's out plssss)
I still haven't listened to the tda ost, or even played tda 😭
It's stuff from awhile back (few months). I just know he's had his hands in a lot of projects, including with them. I'm excited to see later
I apologize for coming across a bit too harsh then. I hope you understand where I was coming from, and it was not a place of malice. P
Taxonomy is an equivocal thing anyhow. It’s at the discretion of competing forms of evidence
Oh damn he's been that busy? I'm glad for him
sames
Don’t sweat it my friend, it’s all good
I'm really curious how much he does in these collabs, iirc he's usually listed as a producer, but that term has always been really varied, from functionally band members, to just a guy who messes with sliders
It's crazy how these other channels are so much more civilized than General chat often💀
I'd imagine he plays a much larger role than messing with sliders
the immature cannot stand for the limitations on their ability to speak, the horde prioritizes nothing more, they flood general chats
anyways I pray for the day a music messiah comes and makes that tda ost reference vid
I remember talking to Alex a while back abt ost quality but I think I nerded out too much
I'm getting tired of this, so i will drop peak, and leave

But I must be patient
Which DOOM II track? The one mentioned in Allstin’s interview?
No from months ago when Alex told me he and the team made a doom 2 cue track that was never used
Ahhhh right, of course. I bet it was Into Sandy’s City
General TDA and eternal chats are all fucking warzones. Even tech talk a lot of the time but that’s lately been due to one guy instigating for months
If it becomes a problem again feel free to send us a Modmail message
Appreciate the offer, I don’t really spend enough time here to care much, got him ignored. Just this dude who comes in every 1-2 weeks sharing steam stats and claiming tda was a flop. Just very strange that he’s still so committed to consistently doing this
Sounds like too much free time that could be utilized on anything else. Like playing a diff game if he hates it so much lol
Lol I don't even have tech talk opened, I just close the tabs I have no interest in
Half of the time it's not even productive-just folks arguing about which specs are inferior and superior.
Bro is doing it for the love of the game
Yeah if you check tech talk now the guy insisting that an ada GPU CANNOT be overclocked is the same dude who is dead set on convincing people that tda was a flop lmao
I just cannot fathom spending so much time and energy talking about a game that you clearly don’t like. When I don’t like a game I just don’t play it lmao
Yep, if it doesn't bring you joy, then let it go. And let others continue to enjoy it for themselves.

Oh nice! I may consider that for future stuff
Sweet! Would it be okay if I added you? I can send some of my stuff your way as a resume of what I can do haha
Sure
Yeah even I am not into Christian metal and I found them listenable.
Silent planet is the other one. They're actually based as hell. Look into some of the things they've done in their live shows. They're so cool.
Tbh doom slayer does seem like he belongs in a Christian metal when he's fighting all demons from hell and shit 😂
Gonna check em out
They kicked out people who were being homophobic in a couple of their shows. Straight up got security to kick them out. They're very pro love and anti hate. They also have a cool video where the vocalist talks about that whole sensitive topic.
They even had merch saying "heal us of our homophobia"
They're peak in musical message and how they act off stage. Really rare in music today
My current collection
Damn that's never heard of from most Christian bands 😯
Fr. They really stand out musically too!! They're in my top 10
Valid as fuck actually
Agreed. Their lyrics are very thought provoking too. They're so cool

Ew I hate that mix, all the rawness of the guitar was gone in that one
Nvm this is the full version, the unfinished one was wack which is the one I remember, still, some of the gu8tar doesn't have that punch
Wait is it I'm confused
I tend to wonder about these videos, I think they’re more focused on replacing Eternal’s direction of music, we honestly don’t know how Mick would approach TDA, we know for each game he’ll do it differently
I think tdas ost is perfect as it is
Facts
so i mixed "Slayers paradise" and infernal chasm, it needs more work but i wanna hear some criticism
Well I like the idea but the timing is off in a lot of these segments, forgive me if I'm wrong but I'm assuming both these songs have different time signatures right? Or at least different tempos.
yeah you're right

You desperately need to change the tempo of Slayer’s Paradise from 159bpm to 195bpm. I recommend using the unmixed Infernal Chasm stems, as they won’t clash with Slayer’s Paradise as much. I also recommend changing the key of Infernal Chasm to match Slayer’s Paradise. Turn down the bass and treble where applicable and use a limiter so that none of the audio peaks too much
I lowkey fw it, the only real thing I think that needs work is the everall tempo

Faaaanfu*kingtastic dude, i suggest u using Death Metal EZX or Modern Metal EZX in case u need a more aggressive - punchy drum plugin
Get Fortin Nameless Suite for guitar distortion if u can, it makes ur tone whole a lot better
thanks! I thought about using drum plugins but found using random samples I found just a bit more convenient. I might try someday tho
Also I just changed the tremolo panning. I thought it would be a good idea that the left and right guitars would play tremolos with different strings, but it ended up sounding wrong for me so I removed it. And the slam ending is now a bit different too.
Also below there's a small riff inspired by E1M5 - Suspence
full song
I'm not rlly good at figuring riffs by ear but you're pretty close, to me that's impressive. The tone needs to be a bit different tho. Like FemiNimr0d said, Fortin Nameless Suite is very fitting for the Djent-ish tone Mick managed to make. I've tried a TOTTFIY VST cover once with that dist. Not 1:1 but I think not too far off
also fortin nameless is good at Meshuggah, by whom Mick was heavily inspired. It even has presets of Jens Kidman's guitar, and I usually use one of them but with some modifications
ooh I tried to VST cover this once

That kicks ass
Nice!
Thanks!
Randomly decided to make a full cover
Meshuggah - Demiurge
So a way you could match the song up with the beat is if you are midi you just highlight everything and you should just press q to match it up
and set the bpm to 264
I physically played the guitar part to be able to quad track (i rather save some RAM by not using VSTi guitar plugins), & yeah it prolly might've been cleaner if i just used a midi

i think he's talking about the one at 2:40, which is amazing

just a short riff i came up with
2:40
first half is very meshuggah
mostly gives violent sleep of reason vibes for some reason
I was gonna say, very djenty or at least prog
hoooly, sounds so mellifluous, rly nice work
Thanks bro
djenting it
This would be a good intro
Then a nasty drop happens
i think those second set of pinch harmonics are a little too off time, or dont let the guitar before that ring out long enough
yeah noticed it myself aswell lol xD, the reason is that i don't use metronome when recording guitar
