Very nice, I do think the drums could be punchier, and more "electronic" though. The guitar also has a bit too much low end I think. Unless that's the bass, if so, id recommend turning it down so the guitar and bass blend together, rather than one overpowering the other.

Another DOOM Eternal remaster.
Redid the ambience to both the first part of Super Gore Nest and ARC Complex and just mixed them together since they're extremely similar and have the same exact BPM. Kept the name from the original mix of ARC Ambience 1 and gave the title I had for SGN ambience 1 to SGN ambience 2 (the title being "Vile Presence").
Also redid the entirety of the ARC Complex light complex and ther Mars Core "Baron" combat music.
My original mix just dragged on since it just repeated the same parts twice in the same sequence

I was reading some reddits posts about the place or not of Argent Metal as a metal subgenre, and i saw that of people disapprove the idea that it can be a subgenre
So i asked here, what are the elements that can make Argent Metal a metal subgenre, and what are the elements for him to not be ?

Called it "Bloodletting" after the medical practice seeing as it fits the context of a blood harvesting factory, and the synths sound like suction machinery while the medical practice used leeches.

I think Argent Metal's place as its own subgenre comes from the importance of its unique synths. Most of the time I feel people focus too much on the metal aspect and not enough on the Argent part.
Flesh & Metal from 2016 is perfect for demonstrating the parity between the two. If you take out the synths, then it's just industrial djent.

Alright gang, who do we think is composing for The Dark Ages? Lavaniel put out a great video recently speculating that it was actually Mick composing. They reasoned that because both a kangling and the metal choir were used - staples of Mick’s Eternal soundtrack - it must be Mick composing. I like their thinking, but I personally disagree, as the drum mix and guitars don’t sound like Mick’s work. This could be a deliberate choice by Mick, but I’m still not convinced. So who does that leave? One of my favourite picks is Matthew Heafy from Trivium. He’s been very vocal about wanting to be apart of DOOM, sending the guys at id a guitar. A campaign for Heafy to be the next composer for DOOM was also signed by a significant number of people, many of which are influential in the metal community. The trailer track is even composed in a#, which is the key Heafy tends to compose in. But he hasn’t done much AAA work at all. The closest is contributing to Metal Hellsinger. Who do you guys think it is?

I like Geoff as a choice. The choir at the end of the trailer sounds a lot like his work on Fall of Davoth, but the rest lacks the strong synths typical of his work. Matt Heafy is my top choice but Geoff is a phenomenal runner up. What I think is really interesting is Kex’s response to my open question. I don’t want to read too far into it, but with how closely tied they are with id, doing the 64 remaster, it might have put the nail in the coffin for whom ISN’T composing. I’ll tell you what, I’m having a lot of fun speculating

Doing a bit more digging, I feel like Matt Heafy is the wrong pick here. A cursory glance at his website shows that he’s an incredibly busy man, juggling fatherhood, streaming on Twitch, and touring with Trivium. I also think it would be a strange step for id to hire someone who hasn’t contributed much to the gaming sphere. They’ve done in before with Nine Inch Nails, for example, and that was formed by the band loving id’s games. However, I just don’t see it working out in this instance; a lot has changed since the 90’s. I find it somewhat unreasonable, then, for Heafy to sit down and compose 30-something tracks for DOOM. However, I think I was sniffing in the right place with Metal: Hellsinger. I find it more likely that Two Feathers are composing the soundtrack for The Dark Ages. I have no solid evidence, but listening to the music in the trailer again and comparing it to the instrumental tracks from Metal: Hellsinger, I’ve noticed how similarly the tracks are arranged. Metal: Hellsinger tracks often open with an ambient intro which builds intensity, before being broken down into a simple guitar riff. That guitar riff then opens up into a full musical ensemble, with drums and orchestral elements. We can observe this in the trailer music for The Dark Ages. Looking at their website and their upcoming projects, we can find this:

Now, it’s too early to say what exactly those TBA projects are, but I’m genuinely considering one of those two projects is The Dark Ages. It may be more so that the involvement of Two Feathers is yet to be announced rather than the projects themselves are yet to be announced. It would make sense if Two Feathers were involved with DOOM anyway; id would want critically acclaimed musicians who have been in the industry for over a decade that have an impressive, varied resume, including a game that is visually and aurally similar to DOOM. Like I said, I have no concrete evidence for this, but I think this line of logic checks out

The ones on youtube are recorded versions of what iirc is a roland sc55, look up the soundfont if you wanna use it, it won't have the effects of recording it physically, or however they did, scc1t2, is small enough to attach, and is also pretty similar

EmperorGrieferus's SC-55 soundfont's really good, despite it's size. I personally use it in tandem of an acoustic drum kit soundfont.
It'll get somewhat close to what the videos have.

I am not sure if it is totally compatible with GZDoom. It has a lot of unique features, as D+D2 has new features nicknamed ID24, or something like that. Only things I have noticed are round walls, new enemies, and two new guns, a flamethrower, and the Calamity Blade. But those features are exclusive to D+D2 and Legacy of Rust.

Well if the goal is to create a nasty tone, then probably yes. I personally think the range from 200-6000 Hz is enough for a tight mix, and it’s better to simply cut off the remaining frequencies, since these spaces can be filled with synths that will complement the guitar, making the doom like sound. Mick usually does this in his tracks

I personally (and respectfully) disagree.
The composer--Hakita--is just working with his limits. Hell, using a mix of MIDI and recorded is just what musicians do, myself included.
In my opinion, it sounds a lot better than the MIDI-only soundtracks of classic Doom. Blasphemy in these parts, I know, but SC-55 MIDIs--in my opinion--only sound good when used in conjunction with samples/instruments/etc (that's why I only play with the Hulshult music on the current Steam ports).
I don't really see why mixing MIDI with recorded samples is a negative, but that's just me.

I also don't really understand the "directionless" angle. It's indie post-rock and breakcore... that's all there is to it. Hell, personally a lot of the fan music feels directionless to me rather than the actual game's soundtrack.
That being said, there are absolutely some tracks that just don't shine as brightly and some that are overrated (I personally don't really like most of Lust's music, and the second to last level of Greed is dogshit while having the least interesting track imo)

Yeah i do the same thing, i don't record anything at all, i make music in musescore, sheet music focused midi sequencer, and add effects in my video editor.

I do think its better than classic doom, sure doom is old but so is system shock and imo that has a better ost than ultrakill.

Take versus, my personal favorite song because i just don't like breakcore, it goes a more modern sound, Sands of Tide, it feels like you took a metal song, took out the melodies, and added sweet little dead rabbit.

Sands of Tide is actually one if my favorites, and I don’t really see the similarity to Sweet Dead Rabbit other than the use of flutes personally. The graininess of the breaks gives the impression of the sand of the level.

Also in regards to Deep Blue, I completely recognize this is a but pedantic, but tbf, it’s not actually jazz, it just has a saxophone, which was funnily a last-minute addition and I like it a lot; makes it stand out.
I think all of the music, the earlier tracks are lackluster due just to the fact that Hakita really got into things as be kept making the music.

To be fair, I do think you have to be a bit if a pretentious abstract music snob to like the entire soundtrack, and I shamelessly admit that lol.
I’m one of the inky people who like tracks like In the Court of the Corpse King, Chord of the Crooked Saints and Bull of Hell, everyone else just goes “erm, it’s just noise”, but said styles are exactly what i spired the soundtrack, and the game got me into them.

These sound like standard MIDI synth basses (like the one you'd find on the Roland SC-55, the sound chip most often recognized as the "Doom soundfont" though it's just basic MIDI) with some tame distortion.
If you don't have access to genuine analogue synths like Mick did (I know the pain all too well), I'd recommend using 808 Synths as a basis and distorting those as much as you can before it just hurts the ears; I've found that works very effectively.
If you can afford it, I'd also recommend David Levy's Argent Compressor VST; that paired with 808's works wonders.
