I fried a i5-2500k once. Instead of going up in +0.02v steps i was going up in +2.00v steps...

Can you provide specs and some troubleshooting information. Run task manager or hwinfo in the background while playing games, see what kind of usage you get

With Ryzen you really don't need to OC, certainly not all core for games. You can tweak PBO if you want, and curve optimizer, but curve optimizer is difficult to stabilize.

All of the Ryzen chips come with soldered IHS, so there's no reason to delid them (unless you're trying direct die cooling).

Intel chips used paste under the IHS until 9th gen (9000 series). Chips from 9th gen and onwards are soldered.

RTX and GTX is branding. A GTX 1080ti is more powerful than a RTX 2060.

The RTX brand generally indicates that it's capable of realtime ray tracing (RTRT), so if you want ray tracing, you will need a RTX card, or a RX 6000 series card.

It's a good mobile GPU, but the M1 is an ARM device, and on top of that, only available in MacOS devices, so you would need developers to port their game(s) to the platform. You will not be able to play most games on it.

And when I say "mobile GPU", I mean small device GPU. It doesn't compare to a full powered desktop GPU

you should be able to update your graphics drivers to the latest currently available, and you should be fine. You only needed driver updates because of the RTX update.

If it keeps prompting you to update your drivers, you probably have an issue with your driver installation, in which case you should fully uninstall your drivers, and then install the latest ones.

Need some opinions on this so I know how much to spend on my new monitor. How big of a difference would one notice between 144fps vs 240fps? My computer is beefy enough to run most games (probably not Eternal) at just about any framerate at 1080p, just wondering if a 240hz monitor would be overkill or if it doesn't matter much past 60 to begin with.

it's nowhere near the difference like going from 60 to 144, but from 144 to 240 is still a bit of an improvement. you can mostly feel the difference if/when you try to go back to 144. for me, my old 144 didn't have gsync or freesync, so getting gsync-compatible on this new 240 of mine (actually 280hz) made all the difference, and now anything i play is butter smooth at any framerate (and without the significant input lag that comes from vsync)

As mentioned, 144 to 240 is not nearly as big of a difference as 60 to 120/144.

Also, different people cut off at different places. Some people see no difference going above 144. I would recommend trying out a 240 Hz vs 144 Hz monitor in some store (in person), and seeing how much of a difference you feel

@twilit aurora @tepid mauve When my game was crashing before Menu, like half year ago, I wiped and reinstalled all graphic drivers, as eraser1 suggested... Not very pleasant process, but it helped. I tried various things with the game but it didnt fix it.

If it wouldnt help, I would do BIOS update, then maybe OS cleanup if I wouldnt ragequit and just uninstall DE at that point 😄

Well, you can uninstall drivers through Device Manager. Then search for latest drivers with gfx card software, install, and reboot. It is also possible to restart PC after deleteing drivers, and let windows update search for drivers, but it might download different ones, so the 1st option is probably better. There are articles on internet that describe that with pictures, if needed. It is easy, just takes a little time.

Yeah this RTX update seems to be screwing tons of people over. Reports of it crashing on startup, even crashing entire PCs. I had it restart my pc once and even though I reinstalled it I’m honestly afraid to try running it again. Rarely had issues with the game before the RTX update.

Huh. How odd. I've had my Alienware for over a year now, and was never able to overclock the CPU with Alienware Command Center. I downloaded an update today and...all of a sudden the option to overclock is there.

Makes me wonder if they're retroactively giving processors/consumers the ability to overclock due to the ongoing silicon shortage. Since gamers can't just go out and buy CPU's and GPU's like in the past, they might be enabling "exclusive" features more widely to keep consumers happy. Any thoughts?

Hello. I've been having an issue where I cannot screen share Doom Eternal on discord when the game is in Fullscreen, otherwise my entire PC will reboot. Yo guys, I have this Bug in Eternal, (since I first bought the game on bethesda) that when I start the game a window with graphics card error comes up, where it says a not supported vulcan layer has been found: twitch studio. I even deinstalled it, still pops up. it asks me if i want to deactivate it or not. Also, when I first start the game, my cursor isnt in the game, I cant get back to my other applications and I can only alt + f4 till all my windows are closed, start up the gae again, then my cursor is in the game and I can play. i can run the game just fine-ish in 1080p (with a gtx 960 as a graphics card, for cpu i have i3-4160, and then i have 8 gigabytes of ddr3 ram) at 60 fps and 40 and intense situations. If you lower the res to something like 1650x980 i always have above 80 frames and am able to stream the game without lagging with friends

but i recommend you to get a more modern cpu because this one sucks ass on many tasks and wont be able to have many stuff open at the same time. A ryzen 5 3600 is cheap and reliable imo

its almost double the price but its like almost double the power my i3 has and i think that would be more than enough for what you need to play at low/mid settings

the budget for the pc (including the ryzen i mentioned instead of the i3) would be around like 500 bucks?

Again, the trickiest part is going to be the GPU. I put in a 6800 at $580 because you can get ahold of AMD GPUs at MSRP every Thursday morning on their website (requires some effort and luck though).

Otherwise, you'll probably end up spending $700 on the GPU for a 3070, if you can get to a microcenter or something. If you can find a 3080 or 6800XT for less than $1000, go for it. Ultimately, the GPU is just a matter of luck and how much you're willing to spend.

I would get the first GPU you can find at/below these prices:
3060 or 6600XT< $450
3060ti or 6700XT < $600
3070 or 6800 < $750
3080 or 6800XT < $1000
6900XT < $1200

You're not going to find a 3080ti or 3090 for a reasonable price.

i wanna record some 4k Doom Eternal gameplay off of my PS5, but the recording limit at 4k is one hour (which I won't be able to keep to, especially since it's a rolling start) and the streaming limit, while unlimited in time, maxes out at 1080p (Which is fine I just wanna get the highest res possible if I can, ya know?)

So my question becomes if I get a capture card, will i be able to game at 4k and save it directly to my laptop or an SD card? because then (I'm assuming) the only limitation is storage space. And if so, what card should I get?

Whoever has Windows 11 installed and is using a AMD Ryzen CPU should get this new Chipset Driver. It fixes some issues with the Windows Scheduler and once installed will correctly put Single-Threaded apps on the fastest core.
Also make sure that Windows is completely updated.

If you had the MC Pain skin equipped, with the animations, switching to another skin can sometimes keep the animations on. I THINK it's something you can do consistently if you do some... weird trick with the wifi. I forgot how it goes.

Okay, I've been losing my mind over this for months now.

I haven't played DOOM Eternal in months, having lost my interest because I simply cannot play the game anymore, not because I don't like it, but because it just won't work. EVERY TIME I launch it, it displays a black screen after the loading, even though I can still hear the menu music and the fire effect for when your skin/demon/Slayer loads onto your podium. Now, there are solutions for this online, but, since you're reading this, I think you already figured out that EVERYTHING I TRIED just DID NOT WORK. Tried reinstalling my drivers, EVERYTHING I CAN THINK OF is UP TO DATE, I tried various other solutions like using launch options and such, and I even wanted to switch it to windowed mode to see if it works, but I.. just can't do that because I have no access to my game, at all!

Not only that, but it seems to drastically lower my screen's resolution for a reason I can't comprehend, and thus BELOW the resolution my computer allows by default, which is 800x600 AND prevents me from switching to any other window I have open on my computer OR using the Windows button to get off the DOOM Eternal window. What's ironic is that I've had this bug for.. well.. a year or two and ALWAYS bypassed it by using an outdated driver which allowed me to play normally. But well, now using an outdated driver straight up gives me a blue screen of death. I DID check the game's integrity, uninstalled it and then reinstalled it, I tried many, MANY things, but none of them work. I just can't play DOOM Eternal anymore because of that ONE bug which won't leave me alone.

Please if ANYONE has ANY idea how I can fix this, reply to this and let me know if you can help me, it's been months now and I still can't get rid of this issue.

yo, I also have an issue. my PC has a 3060 ti (for reference) and before the 6.66 patch Doom Eternal would run perfectly on 144 fps (also have a 144hz monitor) and very rarely drop below 130. The same day the patch hit I also got a new GPU driver and ever since the game works really bad at an average of 90 FPS with a consistent drop to 50-70 every 2 seconds. It's very frustrating. I tried rolling back to the previous driver, same thing. FPS limit is set to 144 through the nvidia control panel, g-sync is enabled through control panel (happens without it too). tried disabling other monitors, even tried re-installing the game. of course this is all without any mods

actually there's something I want to ask that I touched on already: is there some public/shareable info regarding modding and problems caused by the.. let's call it "security measures", that were/are in use?
to clarify I'm referring to both the normal store one (I assume against piracy) and the game pass one
because as far as I could tell those were the ones causing games to not be able to start at all or having other problems; for example Greedfall back in january(?) was completely unplayable via game pass and I believe even the bought version had the same problems

Not really my area so can't comment on game support specifically. In general though (just sharing public info here), I assume you're referring to the fact that games are packaged in a UWP container, which means you can't just go edit files and/or modify executables with the same ease as you could with classic Win32 games with no DRMs. As far as I know though that doesn't mean that modding can't be done per se, it just requires game developers to add specific support for it. To make an example, Flight Simulator does support modding (eg. you can see plenty of videos on YouTube with people making custom planes and whatever), even though it's still a game in a UWP container. I know from the outside this might seem like the same thing, but this is really two separate things - there's the Store and then there's the UWP container for apps/games. The two are often talked about together (you often get UWP apps/games from the Store), but they're separate concepts (eg. you can also distribute UWP apps outside of the Store just fine). It seems to me those issues you mentioned are related with the UWP model per se (or rather, some developers not supporting it properly for any number of reasons) rather than the Store client itself.

Not really, but I get what you're referring to. So:

• With the old Store, all apps had to be inside an MSIX package (so they could be either full blown UWP apps, or eg. packaged Win32 apps like Paint.NET, or PWAs like Twitter). The "wrapper" was the MSIX package, which gave additional features like package signing, some virtualization for eg. the system registry, clean one-click installs and uninstalls, etc.
• With the new Store, all types of apps are supported. This means that you can find and install both "packaged" apps (ie. UWP apps, or packaged Win32 apps, or PWAs), or actual "unpakacked" Win32 apps that are then updated indipendently outside of the Store. For instance, you can find the Discord app in the new Store, which is just like the normal Win32 app you find online. Or, other unpackaged apps like Power Toys, Visual Studio Code, etc.

(eg. you can even find and install the Epic Game Store from the new Store 😄 )

My game is running like total trash. Like 80-90fps in game. I have a 2080Ti and a Ryzen 9 3900XT. It's inconceivable. I've done everything there is to do. It doesn't matter what settings I put the game on. Nothing changes. I've updated every driver there is to update along with my BIOS. I've restarted my PC countless times. Nothing fixes it. It doesn't even matter if it's the only program running.

I've been gettin 160-200 forever now. I have no idea what happened.

I can't even get to 120 on the main menu.

It's literally unplayable for me like this. I can't do anything at the speed I normally do. Constantly input lag and slowness.

is anyone else having problems with crashing when pressing space at the "Press Space To Continue" screen? for me it just freezes and then crashes a minute or so later.
This wasn't happening until I got the update and updated my drivers yesterday so idk it might be simply go back to the older drivers well if i knew how.

i dissabled steam overlay and it loaded way quicker but still crashed when i hit spacebar after trying to start a new game.
launched the game straight from the folder but it still crashed when i pressed space after selecting a save file and difficulty. (for some reason theres some weird popup that shows up to fast to read before going to the "teleporting" screen
isnt the intro cutscene supposed to play first on a new save or am i stupid?

playing the game is no issues, i also tried recording doom 2016, and it works perfectly fine, both on open gl and vulkan engines, so i dont think its a vulkan issue

Battlemod event missions are not completing
There are missions that I need to do 3/3 of Battlemode matches and 5 of battlemod and even victory and even then these missions are not being completed.
It's like I made 0 matches.
There was one day when I played about 30 battlemode games and nothing to complete the weekly mission

I have the game for about 2 months and it has been difficult to complete any mission regarding the online battlemode

The last area of Mars Core isn't registering that I killed all the monsters. It's sort of frustrating given that the game won't give me the Weapon Point. The game also seems to drop drop challenges when I pin them and now it also seems to have trouble loading music. Does anyone know what is going on here? I think i am just going to turn the game off and try again later.

i just did a clean install on windows 11 to fix some problems i had with windows 10 and i just got terraria back and i looked through my steam cloud, my player data was there but idk how to move it

whenever i open battlemode and try to play it, join someones party, or invite someone to my party, i always get a message saying that its connecting, which stays there infinitely. It also says that gpu drivers above 417.42 (roughly) cause glitches, could that be why? If it is i don't know how to revert to a different driver :\

Has anyone else just gotten juggle killed on a wall during horde mode? I was playing the other day, got hit next to a wall and just got juggled to death, nothing I did would move my character. I am playing on Ps4 Pro for full info.
