All weapons are buffed regardless in order to compensate for the extra health

It's possible to GK or outright gib cacos with 3 shells from mastered SSG

In classic doom, with good RNG you'd only need 2 shots(4 shells) but typically you need 3(6 shells) or sometimes more if you miss a few pellets

And you can argue that classic doom had more ammo, but 2016's ammo is overkill for the damage output of their guns

You can kill a revenant in 1 cycle in 2016? Try that in classic, you'll get an 80 damage rev missile to the face

Well there is no "breezing through" a plutonia map. I was talking about the vanilla campaigns. And I still defend that the 2016 ssg's power is almost on par with the classics. In classic, it'd take 2 shots to kill a cacodemon, while in 2016 it'd take 4 single shots (same amount of shells as 2 shots in classic) unless you land critical hits in which case it'll take three (but it's not really smart to walk up to the front of a cacodemon in that game with their insane bite attack and how far that can reach), and there are a lot more examples I can provide. The ssg kills faster in 2016 compared to classic because the game itself IS faster. Things move faster, you kill faster, things kill you faster, and so on and so forth.

5. The game can feel plenty fast in classic doom anyway. Go 2 It for example or even Nightmare! difficulty in the classics.

6. I can walk up to a caco totally fine because I know that a cycle of SSG rounds with stun it because the damage crosses a stagger threshold. So not much going there...

Ok I feel like I'm insane but are the powerup upgrades secretly the best options? I feel like there's a powerup in every major arena, and for only 6 tokens I can literally double their time and treat them like a full heal

anyway, if you want that really eternal fast swapping mechanic look up how to perform holo-swapping when you get the hologram

it does kinda trivialize the game a bit so pick your poison

anyway, some good combos would be ones that chain the rocket launcher, gauss cannon, and super shotgun together as well as the combat shotgun if you're advanced like that to cancel swap times

for example, shooting the combat shotgun or heavy assault rifle makes switching to other weapons faster, similar to the heavy cannon in Eternal

so a common combo could be:

stun bomb -> rocket -> Lock-On Burst -> rocket -> gauss cannon shot -> combat shotgun -> super shotgun

on a pro level, this is a standard combo to destroy barons

can be done within 3 seconds if you practice

I hate him, but a good example of someone performing this combo is clockner:

the video is timestamped automatically to bring you to the point where he performs the combo I stated above on a baron of hell

you can see that by using the combat shotgun before switching to the super shotgun, the swap time is massively decreased compared to swapping to it normally after shooting the gauss cannon

that baron destroying combo is also fine for tanky enemies like mancubi when you encounter them

many other good combos can be learned by watching other doomtubers like fatmetro

so yeah this is a good place to start

Given you've played Eternal, I only suggest getting 2016 on sale. Unless you're forgiving enough, it becomes kinda boring compared to Eternal.
Also, what Optee said. Once you master the Super Shotgun and the Gauss' Seige Mode, the other guns may as well not exist.

For perspective, Seige Mode can two-hit Barons.

From reviews I’ve seen doom eternal runs locked 60fps at medium settings

And then you can raise or lower some settings for how you want your visuals

I haven’t seen any gameplay of 2016 yet but that game is also verified

So I expect somewhat similar results

I've only seen YouTube videos of Eternal, but I can already tell how much it steps away from the gorey approach 2016 had to its visual themes, so it's definitely not just you.
But I'd argue it's way less realistic than 2016. Eternal in comparison feels way more 'arcade-y', in a way.

Also, feel free to shred me for this, but Harbringer slaps way more than BFG Division for me.

Like, if you read the codex entries in 2016, you can see how much the writers wanted the game's sci-fi aspect to make as much possible sense, going as far as providing explaination for why some weapon mods require a cooldown after being used.

(Unless they do the same thing for Eternal and I'm just being an idiot here. )

I like the griddy and realistic style of 2016 but after a while it looks boring as hell

If they did the same thing with eternal it just wouldn’t work

It’s more gorey but it doesn’t feel the same because the blood and guts are a lot more saturated and bright compared to 2016 which was a lot darker

Eternal looks a hellavua lot more gory but 2016 feels a lot more violent than eternal
