Doom eternal isn't all too different, it does what nearly every single sequel does and keeps the core gameplay but either modifies it or adds more to keep it interesting/improve the gameplay. Eternal being more fun than 2016 has nothing to do with the games being similar or not, they more in common than they don't eternal just has a bigger focus on strategy and more interesting tools

When I think of games or other media that's "poorly aged", one of the types I think of are just those that have its aspects outclassed by future works and/or more obviously flawed. There can still be fun to be had in them, nonetheless.

Shoot a single zoomed in SSG shot for tight spread, then start shooting the head

Well, killing demons in general will give you a small amount of ammo if you're nearly empty, so you can always recover ammo from killing groups of smaller demons.

I personally enjoyed Eternal more; the movement is faster, it has more replayability, more cutscenes, better graphics, DLC worth 6 levels (+1 boss level), active multiplayer community (for the time being),...

If you can, get the Deluxe Edition, it includes the DLC - it's really worth it!

Keep in mind: the DLC in Eternal is very, very difficult, especially if you stuggle at the main game.

I'd say 2016 has a lot more replayability than eternal, with the possibly thousands of maps made with snapmap, much more expansive multiplayer and arcade mode. Plus if you're getting somebody into doom for the first time 2016 would be the better game to start with to know the story and have it basically serve as practice before jumping into eternal with its deeper combat system

True, snapmap is really cool! But there's one issue, though, if Bethesda shuts down the servers, it'll be unplayable.
And the multiplayer, is... uhm... dead.

Yes. It’s dead on all platforms unfortunately.

You’ll rarely find a match, and the ones you do will likely be lobbies dominated by veteran players.

Enemies are either too easy or easy and it's too easy to just die quickly many times.

Good spacial awareness and knowledge of what’s most effective against each enemy is also viable. Look in the codex, especially for the Pinky, if you’re having trouble.
Though it’s true. Doom 2016 does have its balancing issues. Not just with difficulty scaling, but also how powerful certain equipment is. Even so, I don’t think these issues are as noticeable on difficulties outside of Nightmare. That is, until you begin to exploit unbalanced mechanics.
Doom 2016 just isn’t a very forgiving game. You’ve got to be smart about your decision making.

Gameplay isn’t as hectic as Eternal’s, but it’s still very much fast-paced. Play it like it’s own game and you’ll have a good time.
And yes, there’s collectibles. Actually the secrets in this game are hidden quite well. Especially the throwback levels.

Hey, everyone! I'm new and haven't messaged in the server much because I'm playing Doom for the first time and I'm trying to avoid spoilers as best I can!

With that being said, I increased the difficulty last night because I think I started it too low. I was just wondering, does the game keep track of what difficulty you beat levels/the game at? Is there any reward or acknowledgement for harder difficulties?

There’s one achievement for beating the first level of the game on Ultra-Nightmare, that being a permadeath mode. Aside from that, no. Play at whatever difficulty you’re most comfortable with.

Although Eternal does have quite a few difficulty-related achievements in contrast.

Play a few nightmare runs first to get the hang of arenas

Practice them until you feel comfortable

Learn to optimize your quickswitching

Keep jumping around while you walk(bhopping)

Move erratically

Use equipment if you need to(hologram or siphon grenade)

If I don't do challenges complete, I'm topped off on all ammo but I have to take space time to do extra stuff

If I do them complete, then I get an ammo cap for revisiting a mission :/

I suggest use the Holograms to confuse enemy AI in hectic fights, Saving Throw Rune to give yourself a chance to recover from a near death situation, Rich Get Richer Rune for infinite ammo, Air Control rune for better movement, and the Stun Bomb mod for the Plasma Rifle. Those will keep you going if you use them correctly

Ehh... In-Flight Mobility isn't that good of a rune imho because 2016 is claustrophobic a lot of the time and has structures closer together

I'd swap it out for something like Seek And Destroy

Ultra-Nightmare, Saving throw is recommended but not needed

RGR? sure, if you master it or use siphon grenades with Equipment Power

Otherwise you won't have infinite ammo for long

And I mean, both RGR and Saving Throw are the latest runes you get in-game
