#doom-2016

as shown in the video, i think it's one of 2016's many cancel-related techniques. hit glory kill key then immediately after mouse2 and attack, and it'll cancel the cooldown of the explosive shot so that you could immediately fire again. (i assume. i forget if i've tested it in the past, but i don't normally utilize glitches in my playthroughs.)
I dislike some of the glitches in 2016
Especially how the graphics render into the game.
I have a perfected version of 2016 since I've never had a glitch or issue in my almost 2000 hrs of play
My Xbox can’t run doom sometimes
Yeah like fucking huniepop
Get that shit off your device right now
Oh wait you have an Xbox never mind
I have like 890 gigabytes
That’s almost one terabyte
my brother uses a lot of the games we have downloaded
No I think it’s the console. If not then it’s our external storage
probs
I might get a series X. Target is selling one for 500 bucks and me and my brother can afford it.
maybe its your graphics card
Hi
Anyone else getting waiting for 3 players then searching bug in mp
i just got 2016 on steam thinking it would be on GeForce now but it’s not, does anyone know of any cloud gaming services that have 2016?
I still have physical copies of my games like I'm stuck in the early 2000s
XCloud, Stadia, probably a lot more
for XCloud you NEED a controller though
Hey, I just bought Doom 2016 again to replay for the first time on my PC
Anyone got any advice regarding that annoying save glitch? The one that sends you to a weird void area with the name "MAIN CHAPTER NAME"?
anyone know a fix for the snapmap just showing a blank screen when starting up?
it makes my whole main screen is black but my mouse is there, I can move my mouse on my second monitor but can't do anything
if I hover over the 2016 icon it shows a title screen and the loading thing, it is tiny so I can't really see it but I would guess it is around 30%
the only way to fix it is to restart my pc
Is gauss boosts weaker on console or am i just bad at it
It is.
Oh
huh, never seen that
They're not weaker. In snapmap and multiplayer the gauss has no additional launching force when firing.
I meant in single player
Same strength but it's very hard to effectively do on console unless you have your sensitivity stupid high
I have my sensitivity at max but camera speed is still feels slow :p
I don't remember the name cuz I woke up but there's a 3rd slider beneath sensitivity that you want low for fast camera speeds
There is?
Yeah, it's in eternal too
Hmm
Don't set that bar to 0 though unless you have ungodly steady hands
Lol

it’s look smoothing i think
Does anyone have the urge to help me get a massacre medal?
This game was very good i played it around the time it came out
yes
Best mod for super shotty is your brain, use it
Brain mod is op ngl
I agree with tuxedo grunt
Thank you Cyber Demon
Gonna 3d print my own praetor suit
Do it
And share the file please that would be awesome thank you
There are no mods for the Super Shotgun, bruh
Id love to have more mods for the SSG in da next doom game
the trigger
the barrel
The shells
the pellets
Alright
Rn im printing a praetor helmet keychain
Damn that sounds cool
Id buy that
You buy anything doom related dont ya?
This is true
..... but I can't bring myself to buy the novels ...
Wdym you don't want "RIP AND TEAR" proudly showing
Hell Ill sell a copy to you for 5$, of course its unpainted but its white pla that im printing in, ill show the finished product later when its done
I can do the 2016 praetor suit or if I can find a file the og doom 1993 helmet keychain
We probably shouldn’t do business here if you actually intend to buy one, makes it easier on the mods
I really want to buy doom merch
Id love to pick it up. Give me a dm when it's done

i just got it so i wanted to know if there were any mods. also im new to doom so how am i supposed to know? i wanted to know if i found one of the things to mod weapons.
Mod bots drop like flies so if you wanna check some mods out just turn a corner
I always have everything I need by the time I get the SSG so I have a free mod spot that I don't need for anything other than 100% secrets
Is Olivia Pierce the final boss monster?
yea
Doom wikipedia says it's her
By the time the Doom Slayer caught up with her at The Well, she is shown bloody and severely weakened. Pierce realized too late that Hell has deceived her and mutters her last words to the Slayer, "They promised me so much." The demonic forces of Hell then strike her with a crimson lightning bolt, keeping their promise of godhood - in their opinion - by merging her soul with that of an ancient, powerful demon, and transforming Dr. Olivia Pierce into the Spider Mastermind.
Oh, I never knew that, I always thought she was killed by it, not being it
of course it would
I went to doom wiki not wikipedia itself
look up a movie and it gives you a summary of everything that happens in the movie
and the game has been out 4 years anyway
5
Having a usless spine and not being able to walk without a suit...to becoming a hell spider. Now that's an upgrade
yeah but only for like five minutes
All she had was her brain and even that she lost in the end
I agree
Time to wait 5 minutes for snapmap to load
hdd speeds
that's ok. every weapon is moddable aside from the BFG 9000, Super Shotgun, and the Pistol.
ty
i havent found the bfg yet
imagine a moddable bfg
there was one originally for 2016 but they decided "no this is the bfg none of that"
Interesting. Didn't know that there was supposedly a mod for the BFG
Do we know what it would do?
cant imagine what it would do
maybe it's something like remote detonation where it causes a way bigger boom in mid air
Most likely
finally got doom 2016 baby myfirst doom
any tips for me?
what difficulty to select
Start with Uv.
I would recommend hurt me plenty, the game tells you everything you need to know when you need it.
But for the love of god stay observant when wandering the environment
Hurt me plenty is piss easy
Even for new players
Id avoid that
Had my brother who hasn't touched a video game in 10 years play on UV and he did just fine and loved it.
definitely seelct ultraviolence not 'hurt me plenty' because the latter removes a lot of adrenaline, which is essential to the experience.
I didn't know that, I've only played ultraviolence like 2 or 3 times but most times I play hurt me plenty
ya always play ultra violence, doom is enjoyed best when you're constantly in danger of death
There were several
There’s a video I’ll see if I can find it later
nightmare gang
Yeah nightmare is the best difficulty for me now
But for new players or casuals uv is good
same
iit do be sad that the doom 2016 multiplayer is dead on switch i had a blast playing it
what do i do at the yellow door thing in argent energy tower
for the portal for the uac
whats better on the gauss cannon, seige mode or precision bolt
Seige
personally i like precision bolt but its down to how you play, seige puts you more at risk of getting hit since it locks you in place but undoubtedly gets you more damage per shot, though landing a headshot with precision is also satisfying
Seige is op fully upgraded and basically another bfg. If you want to just pure shit on the game upgrade seige mode
But whatever is most fun
In the end for you
I like using dev rounds with the HAR
Because it's a blast
They sound so good
1000 percent. So satisfying
what tf is xcloud
xbox's cloud gaming service
everyone keeps complaining about getting lost in 2016. am i the only one who had no problem whatsoever...? =/
i had some issues im my run
Nope
i doubt i even needed the map for any but the two non-linear levels, and even then the architecture and notable landmarks were sufficiently well-designed to always keep me aware of where i was in relation to where i'd been
for OG doom, you'd definitely need to make use of the maps to find every nook and cranny
how do i get all the secrets/collectibles in the argent energy tower? i’ve gone through it twice and haven’t found all of them yet
Doom 2016 is better than eternal
@desert coyote you're not the first person who has said that
I played a couple minutes of Eternal earlier I like how you can just hit the chainsaw button
@vague escarp YouTube tutorials my ninja!
They're different games completely. Just need to unplug and enjoy them both for what they bring to the table individually
i tried and got confused, but i’ll give it another shot
I feel like eternal leans too hard on the combat to the detriment of just about everything else
Doom needs that balance of combat and exploration
Eternal doesn't have much real exploration
I play doom to kill things. If the demon murder has good aesthetic backdrop I'm happy
I play for killing demons too but if the levels aren't interesting too i kinda get bored once I've killed everything
Without interesting levels it becomes nothing more than a shooting gallery
It was a joke lol, i love all doom games
Well play eternal for the none stop kills and play 2016 for that amazing UAC Mars base backdrop
I prefer combat than exploration
I felt the small battles in doom 2016
Not how pretty it is
Its very short
Pretty is a nice bonus though
Yes!
Eternal for me would be great in short bursts
It's combat gets so intense that it could make me get tired after maybe 30 minutes to an hour
Where as i could probably play 2016 for alot longer since there's not nearly as much to juggle.
Although what probably would happen is.... I'd be having so much fun with both I'd be playing long after the tired feeling hit me until i was starting to get to slow to react 😆
I can't play a video game for more than a half an hour to 45 minutes anymore my attention span is very limited
I'm such a burnout
Don't do drugs kids
I like 'em both. I'm fairly new to Eternal, but I'm having a fucking blast with the Switch version.
Motion Controls and a Controller with the extra 'paddle' buttons really make this game pop.
But anyway, even with Eternal adding a bunch of different mechanics, I still think 2016 is a very tight game.
In one hand, its generally not throwing quite as many decisions at you as Eternal, but on the other, its harder to escape and evade and Demons can't be nerfed by shooting bits off so they're always a threat until they die.
Finally beat the game after wanting to play it for so long.
I really enjoyed the game up until getting the BFG. After that I felt the gameplay was getting too repetitive.
2016 mutliplayer was a very under rated experience
^
I had a fuck ton of fun
I can't find out how much time I spent on it. My Series S just says "0d 0h 0s"

Online
100 percent
I like keeping track of the time and putting it on HowLongToBeat
Wrecking shit as a Revenant is just amazing.
Fuck revenant, we Stan spectre here
Heh, i just love the total nutbar energy the revenant gives off.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1232130/BEAR_VODKA_STALINGRAD/ this is the most stupid game I have ever played
BEAR, VODKA, STALINGRAD! - is the continuation of the famous bestseller "BEARS, VODKA, BALALAIKA!"This time, Motherland sent you to fight vs Nazi forces in the ruins of the snowy Stalingrad. Kill enemies and conquer trophy weapons to get the maximum chance to survive. Your main goal is to kill as many enemies as possible and defend the Motherlan...

What
This sounds like the best game u can play
why in this chat doe
Bruh
agreed but getting the crucible then getting it taken away is the worst part
Hello, I have a question about vega.
How is the vega complex justified if we can simply transfer vega to a simple "usb key"? I mean, what's the point of machines and millions of miles of wire, if we can just transfer vega to some kind of usb stick?
Or maybe I ask myself too many questions ^^
Okey 👍 tx
this is not at all true
just replying in general to the fact that doom has always historically been a perfect mix of combat action and level design
there's a reason why the original games, basically FPS dungeon crawlers, were so immensely popular
And level design is what I mean by map
and why thousands upon thousands of complex og maps exist and continue to be made
well, i'm saying i think good level design is, absolutely bare minimum, NOT having maps as depressingly linear and featuring such little exploration as the levels in Eternal
Well I've said this before I prefer maps focus on tight combat not exploration. If I want to be Indiana Jones I'll play the witcher 3
i mean that's cool, but then you're not exactly the type of fan that grew up loving everything about the original games
so, to MANY, Doom is absolutely all about that balance
Thats a pretty stupid statement. I probably was playing doom while you were in diapers
I love those secrets that take you around the map
and have played, again literally hundreds of custom pwads
And so was I. Ask next time don't assume just because I enjoy combat focused maps. It's a preference
is this seriously an argument on who played Doom first
what's wrong with 2016's map design?
i didn't mean to sound aggressive with my statement. i guess i struggle to understand how you managed to fully appreciate those original games, when so much of their level design was extremely complex and labyrinthian, requiring lots of key hunting and backtracking, if now you claim that "if you want exploration/Indiana Jones you'd play witcher"
doom originated hand in hand with that sort of exploration
No idea. I just don't like back tracking especially for my doom videos so I like combat focused maps to shave off time. It's just my preference
I mean they weren't that complex unless you're intentionally looking for secrets
but your main objective is obvious
yes, they were
A pretty back drop is nice though
whoops
didn't mean to quote that. og doom map design was absolutely complex, especially by today's standards
I don't think so although I'm new to the franchise, started with Doom 3 tbh around 8 years ago?
they're pretty easy to beat
2016 i was fine with its design, especially because they threw us the bone of 2-3 non-linear levels
Well you started eviternity right? Those are some really pretty maps and complex
On UV exploration is more difficult because some enemies entities exist in secrets
Heartland is another one
Yeah, they're pretty cool. I thought he was talking about the wads created by id Software itself though
Heartland has some really good map design
but even discounting those levels, the design flow of 2016 was much more sophisticated than what's seen in eternal. and obviously we can all agree that the secrets were better hidden, whereas almost everything in eternal is behind an obviously telegraphed breakable wall
Sunlust is difficult but not complex
Thats true
never played Eternal so can't really judge lol
I don't mind finding secrets but I dont enjoy dwelling in a area to long
watch some of the dev podcasts where romero plays through episode 1 and explains his decisions behind the design
secrets are just optional missions, they should be taken as that.
e1m7 (edit: originally accidentally said e1m1) is basically worshipped by og fans for how great its design and flow is
er
They can really throw the odds of success in your favor though
e1m7
can't really judge complexity when it comes to secrets, although I'd judge complexity of map design if it's making my search for the main objective sluggish
not e1m1, lol
Yea, especially empty areas
well take for example e1m2. basically going for the main objective in that map requires navigating a very simple course with very little resistance
But anyways. Exploring is fine when finding secrets.
e1m1 is just a good opening but it isn't that phenomenal
the bulk of that map is found in its secrets, including a ginormous maze section that doesn't even really offer significant incentive to reward you with (other than the additional secret leading to the chainsaw). but it's still cool as hell to explore, especially with its dark and more claustrophobic feel. or the secret that leads outside to the chaingun, and how rewarding it is being able to find a way to unlock a door to venture outside to engage with all the zombiemen you hear
yeah i mistyped as i said above, i meant e1m7
my internet sucked so hard so I only saw your messages recently
First time I found the chaingun secret I was hyped. This was way back in the day before I pistol started
I think DOOM 2 is less complex
some people prefer DOOM 1's map design over DOOM 2 but I personally like D2 more
doom 2 level design was definitely less complex, especially early on. they seemed to be focusing on smaller, less complex maps to really cater to deathmatch
not sure about the smaller, I found them to be bigger
i always say, i love the doom 2 upgrades, but felt that it was only fully taken advantage of when custom mappers came along to make Final Doom and all the other custom pwads
yeah that's fair. i find them both smaller AND bigger. but mostly, it's that i find them less complex
Watched a video that complains about Doom 2016's complexity
And I 100% disagree
It's from a Doomtuber that is in here so it wouldn't be very nice to post the video here
but personally I found Doom 2016 to be simple and easy, aside from the platforming fails of course. Maybe it's because I started with Doom since young age? Don't know
Gotta be honest. Doom 2016’s an easy game until you play on Nightmare.
yeah, i found 2016 to be a really admirable compromise in terms of old meets new. as with others above, i agree that eternal focused too much on the combat to the detriment of the level design and exploration
here's one of romero's walkthroughs of his design philosophy of e1m7
Doom - Featuring JP LeBreton with guest John Romero
Doom history enthusiast and Spacebase creator JP LeBreton joins id Software co-founder John Romero as the two play though the first episode of Doom, “Knee Deep in the Dead,” in its entirety. John Romero’s run through each level turns up fresh and encyclopedic insight into how this genre-defi...
I straight went to NM on my second run, never regretted it. I can't lower the difficulty anymore now
My first run was on ITYTD
it's just a lot more creative and complex than what is really found in eternal, which is typically mostly just disguised linear corridors leading from one similarly-designed combat arena to the next
but anyway, gotta run out for lunch date. =x lol, already made myself late gushing about OG doom design. OH, ME.
Same here. Doom’s at its best when it challenges you.
Yeah nightmare is just the best way to play honestly. Uv just doesn't do it for me
If you're not getting sweaty while playing doom then somethings wrong.
I never tried UV
Honestly the worst time to play DOOM 2016 on NM is when you got a flu and has too little focus. I tried playing it yesterday and legit played worse than the worst game journalist in history. Maximum disappointment
Doom has always been aesthetically pleasing... but I don't play it for its exploration and level design. I play it for the combat and action. A map designed for this in mind is superior for me. But I guess everyone has their tastes. I have mine some have others. I just feel if you're playing doom for anything other than demon killing you're in the wrong franchise
zombies fucking killed me
demon killing is the spine of this franchise
without it, there's no doom
Yeah that's why I didn't understand the I'm not a true doom fan because I don't like complex designs and exploration thing. Never a good sign of a argument when you have to insult someone
If you're exploring the map for fun and not secrets that's just super strange to me
nobody can call a person a non-fan of a franchise, it's all up to your heart
I have a basement that is doom and I'm 30 and have been playing since I was 10 or 9... Think Its safe to say you should ask about me before just assuming things
"I have a basement that is doom" - Gougaru, 2021
It's actually impressive
I started playing DOOM 3 when I was 7 years old but strayed further until I forgot about the franchise and just remembered it again in 2020 when Doom Eternal was released
It sparked alot of interest for sure. I always loved doom. It's just feels right. Like I'm home every time I start it up. I never rage when I play I can repeat a map 100 times to beat it or get it right. Chase a goal or hard mode and it doesn't bother me even a tiny bit. Feel fresh every time. It's rare for someone to find that franchise for them
true doom fan. unlike me who forgotten it for years
also @compact hare found a little nice detail about the Heavy Assault Rifle, where if your ammo is less than 5 bullets, you'll see the ammo belt inside the magazine being depleted.
I fucking appreciate that detail from id Software
it's something that isn't even in CoD
ammo belts never depletes in Call of Duty regardless of how many bullets you have
and almost every other FPS I believe
Imagine that gun... actually futuristic. Heavy rounds.. cut threw things like butter... has a scope.. is light weight high ammo capacity and zero recoil... well probably recoil for the average person
low recoil makes sense since you're in space
on Mars I mean
no idea about hell physics tho
one thing that bugs me about it is that its crosshair is barely visible, i have to aim using the projectile particles.
i looked it up online, and apparently it happens only at certain FOV's and resolutions
The force from recoil wouldn't really be affected when you're in the base though
interesting
I didn't mean for it to come across that way
but insisting that Doom is exclusively about demon slaying, and ignoring how great its exploration-based level design had always been, and how it's a large part of what attracted people to and kept the mapping community alive for almost 3 decades, is dismissing what Doom historically has been
so no, expecting good exploration-based level design would not at all be unusual to fans who grew up with Doom
while a lot of OG fans are critical of the level design in the new games (and some aren't), like I've said numerous times, I can respect the middleground and balance that was found in 2016, as at least it offered a number of non-linear levels and had intelligent flow of design otherwise. much moreso than in something like Eternal, IMO, where the pendulum swung too far in the direction of combat being the all-encompassing focus, at the sacrifice of the other pillar of the franchise which is intelligent level design
level with backtracking and collecting colored keys are enjoyable indeed. foundry and titan's realm comes to mind
Its all good brotha
if the game makes me open a map and wonder how to access certain areas and find a solution, it gives a good dopamine hit
I’m going to avoid comparing the games here, but I do agree that Doom’s level design shouldn’t be strictly linear. Exploration was a big part of the classics, and I appreciate that Doom 2016 recognized that.
Doom 2016s map is really well done. I always wonder how people get lost
Somehow people still get lost in Eternal’s maps
i did get lost in foundry due to so many levels of the map are on top of each other, but getting lost was what made it even more immersive
speaking personally, what attracts me to games is indeed the free agency allowing a player to fully explore (and not simply be funneled through) complex and interesting areas that it's up to me to figure out how to navigate. so i'm otherwise into OG games like Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, and Tomb Raider, before those series too ended up becoming far too guided and linear. i'm mostly a retro gamer, but most of those series received a ton of pushback for becoming too linear, so now the latest games in many of those are striving for better compromise like 2016 succeeded at
(plus i also love the great gameplay typically found in these games, especially doom. i love killing me some demons as well, no doubt)
but i REALLY loved how complex both the official and especially fan-made maps were in OG doom
I feel bad for people who play eternal and then can't go back and play classic or 2016. All of them scratch a different itch. I transition well between them easily with no issue
Same here.
i love level design in doom 1 and in doom 2 upto level 6, but after level 6 doom2 just pisses me off with how steeply difficult it becomes.
how many shots are we supposed to take when we not only compare 2016 and eternal, but also throw the OG games into the mix as well ^_^;;

All the shots ...
my fav passtimes on youtube is to watch the walkthroughs of doom2 of those levels which i know ill never best on my own
this is the only og doom footage i've ever recorded, but this map always stuck out to me as one of the first custom pwads i played that really challenged the player, coupled with intelligent level design. i play the level really slow and the video didn't pick up all the times i opened the map, plus i hadn't played in a long time before recording so i was super rusty against properly handling the arch-viles and cyberdemon, but idk, i'll post it anyway
Not a speedrun, just a leisurely stroll through one of my favorite custom pwads from one of my favorite authors (Sverre Andre Kvernmo, aka "Cranium"). I haven't played Doom in a number of years prior to the recording, so I'm a bit rusty (most notably with proper BFG use and battling the Cyberdemon). This is also my first YouTube video... Hope...
holy fuck that first pinky startled me
yeah, the reason why i play super conservatively is this map is freaking DEADLY. monster closet traps everywhere, and very limited health/ammo
i even have to avoid killing a lot of stuff under doorways, because archviles spawn and warp to those areas, and they could resurrect their squished remains which causes the invincible resurrected enemy bug
ngl i dont like custom content or mods much but this is impressive
the map just gets more and more insane the deeper in you get
in terms of challenge it's far been outclassed in the decades since, but like i said, this was one of the earliest mappers putting out quality challenging stuff
well, i only posted it since we were on the topic and silver mentioned enjoying watching tough doom 2 levels, heh
Yeah its not to bad of a map. Doesn't look to hard
it's because i already know where all the traps are and how to cheese them
Good old cheese
if you drop down into the section at 13m and kill all the shotgun guys where they spawn, then when you advance you're ambushed by 2 archviles in front, 2 revenants in back, and since you killed all the hitscanners right where the archviles spawn, it's very easy for them to endlessly keep resurrecting them as a shield, and the player has very little ammo at that point to simply power through it (you see that i pick up practically every resource on the map and, while killing everything, only end with 20 extra shells to spare.) that's why i made sure to position their corpses further away from their spawn point, and triggered their ambushes one by one. i was a little sloppy in parts, but the map is definitely an exercise in caution and perseverance. a lot of the really tough campaigns in the years since do a different brand of tough, where they throw craptons of big bads at you in open spaces, but always give you enough bfg ammo and other resources to make do
and there are tons of tricky situations like that in his maps, where if you walk in carelessly, you're gonna have a bad time
I love on berserk when you rip the imp's head clean in half
tbh i dont think maps have to be too challenging or throw extremely difficult enemies at you to be fun
lvl4 - The Focus is my all time fav map
Does the 2016 cyberdemon have blast damage immunity as well as classic cyberdemon?
Dont think so
Cant pick one personally. VEGA Core has the best environment. Titan's Realm has my favorite map design and combat, and Argent Facility has the best soundtrack. Imo
vega core soundtrack is so good too
no
If you're not using mastered remote detonation you would be
Sup, and welcome to the server.
welcome home, great slayer
These are two different games you are talking about
He is talking about doom 2
oof
So, I got to finally played Doom 2016's multiplayer and I had a blast
honestly is a good bit of fun. I played a little bit of it back on my ps4 and had a good time. wish i played the pc version but i thought i heard it's hacker invested
What’s the most underrated track in doom 2016?
Don't know. But Harbinger is my personal favorite
Titans realm ost
Wait I think it's just titans realm
every track except Rip & Tear and BFG Division
just how dead is the mp
more dead than me inside
on pc its pretty dead from my experience
there may be peak times when there's more people playing but i havent tried yet
would be useful to have a bot monitoring MP activity
and it could report that activity in a discord channel here, divided into regions
probably not possible tbh, a boy can only dream
I mean, its possible there's a server dedicated to Doom 2016 multiplayer
Kinda like how Spicy Demons is a popular spot for Battlemode
not necessarily
most of this server's focus is on eternal
and besides Spicy Demons has a lot more recognition, a deathmatch server might be more obscure in the first place
¯_(ツ)_/¯
ps4
?
if yes then add me, i want to get the multiplayer trophies
if you get every single collectible in the campaign will u have enough to get every upgrade
You’ll need to 100% every missions to have enough weapon points for everything.
Collectibles alone aren’t enough.
ok
iirc you end the game with 11 (or 12?) extra weapon points, then defeating the final boss brings you up to 17 (not that you can spend them at that point)
the problem isn't getting the weapon points, the problem is planning out the order in which to unlock the weapon mods and upgrades so that you can complete all the mastery challenges before the end of the game (assuming you don't replay levels to farm their requirements)
Make sure to find the super shotgun and send a screenshot when you get it
Its hidden later in the campaign so good luck finding it
Remember to rip
And tear
Till its finished
ok
Ok ok
Bfg or super shotgun
Just a quick poll for everybody
VS goin strong
No one going for the bfg or ss
Combat Shotgun
Based
Unpopular opinion: Combat Shotgun is more fun to use than the Super Shotgun
I just wanted to try and max out weapons for shids and giggles
Might content myself with just clearing the levels 100% though
that sure is an unpopular opinion
Do you count mods with that or no?
Yes
Like how no one voted BFG
Sin. Ssg melts
And man the first time you use that bfg in the zombie room

me who doesnt use the BFG to kill the fodder, but instead kills them for level challenges with another weapon

same
Well that section they literally want you to use the bfg there. Its like begging you to test it out...
I really never used it in that area
I always just took the opportunity of having many enemies to master some of my guns lmfao
didnt even think of that 😔
Dude... its actually glorious. Well it was my first playthrough ever. You get this thing and you're like... is it powerful how's it work ? And you use it .... woah
This makes sense
I was like they did the classic bfg justice this time
I love doom 3 but the bfg just didn't do it for me
me too. BFG is so op in DOOM 2016 but I only use it when necessary or I'm about to get fucked up
also for certain challenges
i always BFG in that first room with all the barrels/possessed, but i glory kill one of them first to get the speed boost to start easily maxing out the Blood Fueled rune
One of us
I swear i need to play 2016 some day
Definitely
I really like it so far
motion aiming
2016 felt like the most over the top ridiculous bullshit at the time, but since eternal came out it's the gritty, grounded Doom
is there a way i can get doom 2016 for free
bc i have been wanting the game for about a year
no
you could pirate it
but that would mean youre a freeloading scumbag
Oh wow the doomslayer wanting to get a DOOM game for free , how ironic
in fact follow this tip from john romero: https://i.imgur.com/CxKW8iK.jpg
hahahah
thats why i like to call pirates freeloaders now
Doesn't really matter how long you've been wanting it though :/
If you want it then pay for it
im broke
be patient and get your money back
and wait for a sale
get my money back? how?
well
youre going to have money at some point right
earn it..?
ok
yeah
a job
if you cant find one now youll find one later
they arent a freeloader
not until they pirate the game, which they havent
so they arent a freeloader
Still doesnt give you the right to pirate the game you dingus
It's not like it costs them money to manufacture a new copy
Brother you high? It is both legally and morally wrong
I'm not high and I've been working in the arts for several decades now
Paint fumes ?
(In fact carmack actively encourages it)
no way, you have a job???
take a guess based on my name
Where does he actively encourage it
Interviews, and the fact that he posted Doom, Doom 2, and Doom 3 on archive.org for free lol
he's a major activist for freedom of information and was giving Doom away in the 90s when it was new
If you want your franchises you love to thrive and grow you need to buy them. Unfortunately we don't live I'm a utopian society where people produce things for love and kisses
if nobody ever buys a copy of Doom 16 or Eternal again, id will be fine
Doom is the most famous video game except for maybe mario
No they wouldn't. Business doesn't work like that. You're in fairy land bud
to be honest I dont think they would want to be deprived of their money
I literally work for a public library, we give shit away for free daily
I know how the money flows lmao
Good for you
cool
Thats funded by the federal government
I feel like I'm talking to myself from 2008
I can't believe my friends put up with this
Sure comrade
can you like stop talking please
nah
yeah and you expect it back
before you start charging them for it
Nope, we don't have late fines
still especially charitable
damn
but most libraries are slightly less friendly than yours
(And when we did, I waived them because they were shitty)
And all of them are tax funded
yeah somebody is still paying for the library
I, uh... know where my paycheck comes from actually
yes
The meme is that no one in government would approve of the idea of a public library in the modern day because it's too "socialist", but taking them away would start riots
When in fact, the library purchasing one book/movie/game and distributing it to 200 people over its life is not functionally different to duplicating copies of doom '93 or whatever
But the people don’t get to keep that copy of doom 93 forever
If you ask most librarians we wish they could lmao
A videogame library sounds kinda cool actually
that exists, many public libraries have games
That would be an ideal world
Yeah I was thinking that was a thing
The funny thing about the "ideal world" is that we have the capacity to do the work towards building it. id made millions of dollars in the 90s and most of original doom was FREE
Slow steps
librarians aren't content creators...
never claimed to be (though some of us actually are)

Why do they have the demons in 2016 hit so hard
I'm playing on ultra violence but I feel like this is nightmare
dont play nightmare
Play nightmare if you want some good sweaty action
yeah if this is uv then dont play nightmare
Dude just 2016 uv and eternal uv are two different difficultys
yep
imps are birches in 2016
Dude ikr
And my god cacodemons actually kick in 2016
They there an actual threat compared too eternal
I just encountered my first pinky in doom 2016 I’m not to sure what to think about them
"you aint in doom 1993 no more"
Your right I’m not
shoot them more and get hit by them less
Good idea
i am happy to be of service
hi
2016 is better than eternal
ok
the boys that go down with one lock on
I think
Fr tell me
They are too hard to die
also the super shotgun is available in argent facility right
where is it located
they go down fairly easily, especially if you get the rocket launcher in a secret
there will be like a cliff section to the left of a door
just go there, kill the fodder and obtain it
Ok
What's the rune trial where you have to perform a glory kill on hell knights 3 times
Whenever I do it I always get stuck in stairs
ok
you have to use the shitty burst shotgun mod too, it's awful
dont you have to use micro missiles?
ok
oh was it that? I don't remember, the rune trials were mostly awful. the platforming one was cool tho
theres one where you have to perform 3 death from above glory kills using HAR and micro missiles
and theres another where you have to just kill various demons with the shotgun and charged burst
I mostly hated the rune trials and I'm glad Eternal didn't have them but in Eternal I did miss the rune upgrades
Like, collect ammo with rune equipped to increase the radius of vacuum
personally I liked the trials
some of them kinda succ but most of them are fine
The only one that I can think of that sucks is the remote det one
good practice for that mod though
it's extremely good in 2016 as well
the vibe of the rune trials was so good tho
usually the best way to deal with fodder demons at a distance (without wasting siege ammo anyway), and when upgraded it deals 2x damage for direct hits, making it the most useful for weapon quickswitching
One of these days I'd like to go back to '16 and beat it on UN
I tried streaming it, but it was taking too long and I kept having to restart
I mostly just use it for lock no so :/
but tbf my least favorite rune trial is Savagery's, I never use that rune anyway
I could have said the same about In-Flight Mobility's rune trial if it was a rune that I don't use too
my first playthrough i did too, and thought remote det was useless by the time i ended up unlocking it. when attempting UN, i soon discovered the error of my ways
Whats the trail for it again?
I don't remember the specifics of the rune trials, which is weird because the last time I did a 100% of '16 was just a few months ago lol
yeah Im never attempting UN
I would love to play Doom 16 with Eternal's weapons and dashing. It would absolutely break the game, would be insanely easy
there's a dash mod for Doom 2016, I didn't try it yet though
it also has the same sounds from Eternal
Wtf
might play around with it
It's funny, I know everyone (wrongly) hates Doom 3 but since that was my very first Doom, I was disappointed in 2016 when it wasn't very scary
doom 3 was my first doom as well
Then I got myself caught up on the franchise and was like "oh okay this is awesome"
I would have played D3 but game pass said all you get is a black screen for 2 seconds
wat
Doom 2016 is my favorite Doom but I wish if it had even more varied tracks, since they kinda get repetitive
I wish if Doom 3's intro track was remastered in 2016 but they saved it for Eternal's second official trailer
That's the main theme, not the intro one
oh what was the intro theme lmao
Tweaker was remastered as Harbinger
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocWQi0wrUUk Eternal's trailer version
Yeah mick gordon is basically a genius
and then he did a bunch of really stupid things
Shame he couldn't work on the TAGs. Picture how great it would have been to hear At Doom's Gate instead of Hushult's new... theme
Did he though
yes, he did
he's good when it comes to composing music but in just life and work affairs...eh
ok but what
not so sure, I only care about his music tbh
the series of things he did that are why he didn't work on TAG?
the story I heard was that id mixed the studio release of his album because of time constraints, and he was mad about that because the studio album of eternal is not as good as it could have been
and won't be working on Doom in the future ever again most likely
Like, Meathook just abruptly stops. It's a bad mix
and that story is nonsense because what actually happened is they kept giving him extensions on a deadline until they literally could not wait anymore so he lied to the community about what was happening to the point they had to release a statement about it
whats wrong with Andrew's
it lacks melody and is generally mediocre
I don't like his works personally, nor david levy
I like them more than some of the base game material
didn't even like blood swamps, but anyway, back to doom 2016
(I actually don't like the album mix of Harbinger either)
There were some awesome ingame parts of it that aren't in Harbinger, and the track is very long and a bit repetitive
Yeah, we heard BFG like 3 times
But I get it. Better to focus on new music than remixes of old DOOM lore
2016's At Doom's Gate: Am I a joke to you?
haha
it was used 666+ times
haha rune trials
Doom 2016 intro: At Doom's Gate
A Rune Trial is finished: At Doom's Gate
Boss' final glory kill: At Doom's Gate
Finished a mission: At Doom's Gate
Doom 2016's ending: At Doom's Gate
Well
Doom is everyone's favorite. Doom 3 is the favorite of a foolish few like myself
well apparently people liked Harbinger and the Mick Gordonified Doom 3 intro music really much
of course

Really is fantastic
Doom 2016 is fun
2016 is a nearly perfect game
Not as perfect as eternal
Eternal is better gameplay-wise, because it has the now famous Doom Dance which is just excellent... but Eternal really fucked up the lore
I rlly like eternal lore
Sure, it's cool or whatever but it makes 0 sense
I've read every codex entry multiple times and it just shreds itself. there's no continuity
I mean, you don't need to read the codex to realize that the story doesn't make any damn sense
What part of eternal makes no sense
The Doom Hunters were raised from a race called the Aggadon, who were bred to hunt down Doomguy. The Hell Priests resurrected them from ice they were buried in for millions of years. Is doomguy millions of years old? Then how is he human from earth? Does that mean there's an id multiverse? If so then why does he care about THIS earth in particular so much
The moment you start to think about it the entire story collapses

DOOM 3 would have been my top favorite DOOM game of all time if it wasn't for its aged gameplay. its story and music is just top-notch, could have been way better though.
DOOM 2016 really takes the first place as the best DOOM game I've ever played IMO
The aggadons are millions of years old but only the hell priests started breeding them recently to hunt the slayer
Nope
The slayer aint a million years old
Read the codex
The aggadons were bred to kill Doomguy. They failed, and the Hell Priests brought them back with robot arms and the sled
The doom hunters fought the slayer after the divinity machine right
"I thought you'd appreciate the sentry I chose - The great Agaddon Hunters from the Telos Realm. Though long thought to be extinct - created to hunt only the Slayer and his Night Sentinels during the Unholy Crusades. Some improvements on the design have been made. Enjoy what is undoubtedly my finest work."
― Deag Ranak
why is this discussion taking place in #doom-2016
Ye so only recently have the aggadon hunters been resurrected
I believe it should go to #833975896196120626 but 🤷♂️
@royal chasm go to eternal lore
@alpine mortar go to #announcements
kk
#bringbackthebaalgar
#bringbackthebaalgar
#bringbackOpenGLsupport
It's the name of the species that 2016's Cyberdemon belongs to

doomguy IS millions of years old (or at least old enough to be documented in hell's earliest records, starting with 2016). though i agree that eternal's plotline is a mess, as are all the attempts for people to try to connect all the games into a single narrative
Overall badass
💯
He had the guts to do what no other demon has done
throw doomguy
Yup

and he fucking died
well, that was inevitable
every demon is sentenced to death already
if it exists, it's sentenced to death with a glory kill
Still, put up a good fight
my favorite boss fight in the whole game
Hell Guards were also cool because they felt off
Don't know how to describe them
Wasn't the first time
I got questions for any snapmap geniuses who are alot better than me
How do people manage to add FX to demons that actually stay onto them?
Does anyone know how to find a multiplayer match? I can't seem to find any, I'm on Xbox if that matters
No one plays multiplayer anymore
It’s got different horns tho
True
At least on doom 2016 no one does. I didn’t get the chance to try it out sadly
Yes. Because of his ten years in hell. Time works differently in hell than it does on earth
Fuck it, retcon everything
Make it a single cohesive storyline
Doom lore won’t make sense until doom 6
where is this 10 years sourced from?
Ten years in your mommas ass
Remember when story was compared to a porn movie?
Idfk that’s what I was told
John carmack
Story in a video game is like story in a porno
It’s expected, but that’s not why you there
Something like that
this was always my intent. also hi i'm back from black widow
Nice
Gonna watch it on my birthday, in a few days
I watched it when it first came out with one of my friends
Carmack is also a robot so maybe don't take his advice
Lol
Sometimes you just gotta hit that “it was just a dream” button
Well
I’m also a robot isn’t he the one I should be takin advice from

I’m an literally Samuel Hayden
" vr is the future "
Lol
Doom 2016 takes place in like a 100 years whos to say it won’t happen then
It probably is but not for a long goddamn while
2016's plot didn't really make a ton of sense, either
Made more sense than eternal lol
definitely, but also, idk
“This Is my hiding spot and I’m not moving from here until the situation drastically improves!”
can someone remind me what the big deal about olivia opening up the tower portal was, and why it was so important that they prevent it and then close it?
Famous last words
He probably just fuckin died on that spinning electric thing too didn’t he
i mean the base was already destroyed by the lazarus wave, and hell could already freely teleport its demons over via gore nests, summoners, or just the usual cross-dimensional activity mentioned in the logs and holobuddies
the tower portal seemingly had like, no importance to mars already being completely overtaken by hell, hell could already infinitely reinforce itself to mars, and it was already made to be a stepping stone to earth
Listening to Kashmir by Led Zeppelin because it’s the nuts.wad music
i was expecting the tower/well portal to start consuming mars and transitioning its architecture/reality into hell like in the original games, but this never happened (wasted opportunity)
Less be honest it was kinda poorly done in the originals to begin with
what was?
Think e2m2-3
They showed wall textures mixed together with hell textures
But it was weirdly done
Sandy Peterson you’re a beautiful man but I will never forgive you for those ugly ass Deimos levels
i liked episode 2, haha. and i liked how they combined uac architecture with hell, progressively throughout the episode. i like how certain areas still retained more uac and others more hell, or just the general mishmash. it overall leaned more towards hell by the end of ep 2
i mean ep 1 is still the GOAT but still
I thought it was a cool idea but I felt it definitely could’ve been done way better than it was
I also like episode 2 a lot
After not having played it in months
Nah I think it was cool
Also had cool music
The music in e2m2 greatly improved my opinion of it
i first played doom on the sega 32x (lol), so i only had access to the first 2 episodes starting off. then i think i got it for saturn and then psx, before finally getting a pc and getting to play it all the way it was originally meant to be played
deimos lab was my favorite level of ep 2, since it was so replayable, and easy to wake up all the demons at once and then just return to the start with the mob chasing me, lol
I played through the first 3.5 levels at a retro arcade a few years ago
Holy shit I fucking hated Deimos lab
yeah, i think i recall you saying that earlier
The music haunted my dreams
but like i said, as a kid playing it for the first time, never having played an fps before doom, or even seeing anything quite like its crazy design, ep 2 definitely made an impression on me (as did ep 1, obv)
hell was a disappointment to me compared to those 2. and i HATED slough of despair
still do
Yeah i can imagine
I liked slough of despair, even when everyone hated it
Doom 2016 on switch is extremely impressive for switch
nice
finally got the super shotgun
Ok
Super shotgun is level 4 tho
After meltdown
I hated hell knights but now I found the rocket launcher
I still hate them but now they die easiliy
Yeah
Should i do a no mod and upgrades nightmare run
Or attempt UN
Both are bad ideas
i think DOOM guy's suit has a problem
i just died and... the suit isnt exactly the preator
if i was you id use a combo of one precision shot with the ar and a rocket followed with the plasma
Where to get plasma rifle
I just use the rocket launcher 3x
when you have the weapon swap speed upgrade but you still swap slowly no matter how quick you press buttons
At least you're swapping. Be proud. Some people just use 2 weapons the entire game
reminder that snapmap has no swap firing delays
reminds me of that guy that only used HAR and combat shotgun in their Eternal review
ew
Need help
I literally lost my exploration in one level without any reason
I completed level 2 without all the secrets, then I runned it a second time and got all 100% stuff. That was yesterday. Today, I opened the game and started the third level. All was correct, with my progression, but then I clicked on restart mission because I was going to record it and I activated a dialogue before starting the record, so I clicked on restart the level. I did this and I reapeared at the beginning of the third level but I realised I didn't have my plasma rifle! I went to the main menu and the progress on the second level went back to the first run where I didn't explore 100%. WTH
Someone else has experienced this bug and knows a solution?
no idea
tw for the advanced complex mission where u get the bfg 9000, i cant seem to find a technique against the 3 cybers without the bfg, any combo suggestions?
there's only one cyberdemon in 2016 though?
wait cyber mancubi
lock-on burst => gauss cannon => explosive shot and repeat
also stun bomb them
I hate siege mode
Why
Dunno, just not appealing for me because it makes the Slayer slower. I always get Precision Bolt mod first
same
siege is just against what the games mechanic is
i feel like barons are so ez to take
Doom 2016 is easy and all until VEGA Core, absolute mindfucking
i use ar precision, gauss, ssg and rocket. then eince and repeat
i had a hard time on xbox
I got fucked hard in my first NM playthrough when I reached VEGA Core
wait im at the Lazarus mission, is it this part i get to fight the cyberdemon?
VEGA core is the equivalent of breaking your fingers
Yes
Very soon you'll get to fight him
i hope so
nobody could have said better
sure, I'll watch
No
This is fuckin jokes innit
lol rip
I had this same problem streaming 2016
CHange your settings so that you're sharing whole monitor, instead of just the game
For me it’s Advanced Research Complex’ last arena and Lazarus Labs
I died the most in those two areas
In my first play through that is
can u see?
no
Yep
Vega core arenas are big and open like eternal arenas
Also found out that you can do the argent facility destroyed skip in the beginning with micro missiles aswell

skip?
That wasn’t even a comparison
what difficulty

I just like health potions
I have a problem
Anyone wanna play multiplayer?
NM
that depends, sam. can i shoot a hole into the surface of mars
okay then
I mean I kinda agree
Im just too big of a poopoo gamer to not die
"you can't just shoot a hole into the surface of mars..."
Hahaha
ok buddy
im going to shit yourself
without the stank of the crucible
argent energy will shit down
i hope you understand im not a villain in this story
till we meet again
doomslayer
there a reason the preator suit was found near the coffin In 2016's lore?
because why not
fair enough
As far as I know, the Doom Slayer was trapped in that sarcophagus with his armor on.
He wasn't, that's why he wakes up naked in 2016
Pretty sure he wakes up on a table though. Instead of the Sarcophagus. I’m guessing the UAC were planning on examining him, given the little robotic tools that surrounds the table.
Oh yeah you’re right, my bad.
Guess that’s another continuity error in Doom’s story. According to the lore, demons trick and trap him in a Sarcophagus. That thing hadn’t been opened until Samuel found him.
So unless he decided to not wear his armor that day, no idea why it’d be in a separate coffin.
It was yeeted off his body by the demons
Currently achievement hunting but I need the cyberdemonic armor achievement, anybody else that is also looking to get this achievement willing to help?
my platform is pc
whats the achievement?
Basically I need play a match with the cyber demonic armor equipped, meaning I need to reach echelon 8 @sage sundial
oh so online?
np
Yeah the one where you go from the ledge to the rune trail area usually by gauss boosting
guys where to get plasma rifle
resource operations.
which level
Resource Operations
Second level
Hope you learned a lesson
Take your time, explore, move carefully and deliberately in between ripping and tearing
I basically 100%ed each level before moving on lol
eh i just wanna play for tp
Eternal has way less exploration, and secrets are generally but not always way more obvious
ill replay on normal with 100%
TP?
Oh I pass the time with nightmare lmao
lmao
One of these days I think I'll try it on easy just to see how different it is
in easy I think there are less demons
which spawn with every gore nest destroyed
I wonder if I can get discord to stream doom properly today
my mic dont work lol
aha ok
imma just watch
well you can still watch
deafening as well
if i can remember, the Preator suit is the UAC suit, because in doom, doom 2 and 3, there is no Preator suit
ultra-violence?
Which one is between I dont wanna die young and nightmare
It goes Too Young To Die, Hurt Me Plenty, Ultra Violence, and then Nightmare
You can get it later on after Ress op
Ok
oh wait shit
theres a "download demo" button on the right in doom 2016's steam page.
is it possible to play 2016 on controller?
i mean like gameplay wise...
