Well you can declutter weapon wheel so that is not a problem and shortcuts make it easy to have any weapon at just one press, I personally finished eternal and 2016 without ever using the wheel as it is poop

Chainsaw makes it indeed super easy to play the game with infinite ammo

How should I handle shaky hands when playing? I always twitch my hands before I fire so I miss. It's kinda involuntary. I have to take 2 seconds to aim and steady or I can't hit anything.

Hey ya fellas. I played and finished Doom Eternal extensively (+DLCs) on PS4 and found a cheap second handed DOOM 2016 since i fell in love with DE and it's combat system. I started yesterday and got to argent tower on UV (I tried Nightmare but got my ass handed over to me too quickly).

Any advice you could give me on what to expect in comparison or such? Seems like a very different game actually.

On Nightmare the praetor suit might aswell be plastic

Not as many movement options as Eternal, specifically no dash or meathook. The rune system has a bit more depth though, with I think more than 9 and each one having an upgrade to earn by levelling it up. Runes are pretty much going to be the core of your build rather than just complimenting it like Eternal.

The secrets are also a little more well-hidden in 2016 compared to Eternal imo, especially the hidden Doom 1 and 2 levels which aren't explicitly marked on your map like the collectibles are.

Other than that though, weapon mods, upgrades, and praetor suit enhancements aren't that far off from what you've already experienced in Eternal.

I’m on console as well, you can quickswap, just not as efficiently as on PC. You need to upgrade your swapping abilities though, maybe that’s the problem?

Also, the wheel in this game is a lot more sensitive, so it’s easier to switch to a weapon you don’t want.

Yeah I agree, the cooldown works way better than having the limited ammo. That being said whenever I play 2016 I actually max out my ammo with the argent cores before anything else, since it increases not only your guns' ammo reserves but your chainsaw reserves as well

There are also a few runes especially near the end of the game that help out your ammo management (that were probably absent from Eternal because of how consistently accessible the chainsaw was) that are definitely worth taking a look at if you're struggling with ammo

One of the earliest ones you get is Ammo Boost which increases the value of every ammo pickup you find, and near the end of the game there's one called Rich Get Richer which gives you unlimited ammo of your armor is over 100 (75 when you level it up). Rich Get Richer is extremely effective especially when combined with a couple of the other runes that help manage your health and armor a little better

2016 may not have as much depth to its combat but it creates a couple opportunities to just make the Slayer so overpowered which is its own kind of fun imo

Hi guys I have a problem, I'm in the Advanced Research Complex and I need the interact with two runes challenge, but I already have both runes. the counter shows 1/2. I've redone the level but obviusly the runes are destroyed. I'm going for the all challenges achievement. I have redone the runes from the main menu, still nothing. I even reinstalled the game.

When I go into the level it shows challenge completed so I'm confused.

Common bug, happened to me as well. You’re going to need to replay the campaign for the achievement to register, make sure to do every rune on your initial run through the level.

Bug fixing doesn't take as much time as making new content either. Games that are far abandoned receive small bug fixes from time to time like Portal 2 or Team Fortress 2

I feel like a monster- I tried getting back into this game, and I’ve clearly been spoiled by Eternal - I like 2016, but the movement just doesn’t feel the same. To clarify, I’m not shaming 2016- I actually enjoy watching speedruns more on 2016 ironically.
Not even sure why I feel this way. I can play the classic dooms and 64 no problem. Maybe cus it’s 3D, I don’t know.

For me, it’d probably have to be the Baron. Perfect blend between classic and modern design. Also they shake the ground when running at the player, makes them all the more intimidating. Just a cool Doom enemy in general.

It's introduction is just so intimidating, as 2016 was the first Doom game I ever played, so the Hell Knight felt more like a mini-boss than the Barons because it had build-up

I should mention for me not dying in nightmare is the goal. It's completely doable for your second playthrough. Some might say it's easy because it only took 4 , 5 deaths to beat something. I'd count that as a fail and be annoyed. But if you don't mind dying and then trying again and doing area again then you could give it a shot.

Hey guys, I just got Doom 2016 on PC after completing it on PS4 a long time ago, and it's running pretty badly. I was able to run the entirety of doom eternal on max settings and there wasn't even a single lag spike, but doom 2016 is super choppy.

For replayability though, you'd want to skip the cutscene because you're most likely skipping the cutscene because you already watched them beforehand and just want to get to the combat sections.

Lol, don't even get me started on 2016 having a 5 minute exposition dump you couldn't skip because it wasn't even a cinematic.

But first time playing, you wouldn't mind it. I feel like that's a glaring issue for linear shooters in general, the combat sections are fun and you want to replay them again. But before you do that, you have to sit through a cutscene you can't skip and you've already seen.

Eh, Nightmare in this game isn’t really that well balanced anyways. Hell, even Hugo admits to this. You’ll eventually get there with enough dedication/practice, but what matters most is playing at the difficulty most fun for you.
And yes, everyone gets kicked out of the fun zone at times, it sucks.

I've been feeling this way all throughout nightmare tho

Like the whole way. Every single encounter is exhausting and it honestly isn't fun anymore. I know I should move and avoid and just shoot, but my brain and hand eye coord is just too shite to do it, so I end up scraping by the skin of my teeth after hours and hours, just by luck, no skill at all

Nightmare in the beginning can be brutal, and at times, it is luck-based. If you find yourself not having fun with the difficulty, best thing to do is keep practicing on a lower one. A shame you can’t switch difficulties from Nightmare though, that’s BS.
But I get it, when I first experienced Nightmare, it felt unreasonably unfair. I just had to keep practicing. Things are lot more manageable later in the campaign though, when you get to about level 7.

I don't feel it's unfair actually. Usually when I get killed I know why. It's mostly down to one reason, my body is too slow. I know what I need to do, but my hands and eyes can't keep up.

So that's why I feel frustrated. It's not because it's unfair and it's not because I'm just not gitting gud. It's because it's getting apparent to me I'm physically unable to keep up with the game. My reaction speed is way, way too slow.

I know I should dodge, or to use what weapon, but I can't move in time.

Same thing as Eternal, remember the wheel layout so you can flick it open and switch to the weapon you want without needing to divert your attention from the battle.

You play 2016 enough you'll just eventually want to do do nightmare. Uv gets boring after a bit. Nightmare has that bs factor but it keeps you on your toes for replays
