I'm old school and like the fact I have physical copies of my doom games for my collection

I only have an Eternal physical copy and i don't use it anymore

And to make that clear i rebought the game digitally as deluxe edition because it was only 2 bucks more than the year one pass, worth it for demonic slayer

after five years, i finally realise: Doom 2016 is literally the worst game i've ever played. it ruined the franchise for me. all of that moody atmosphere from the classic games that was expanded in doom 3 is now completely gone. the game also feel just rushed out. with no real mods and comunity support. literally everything that could've gone wrong has gone wrong. they even used the stupid doom comic lines. what the hell was id thinking when developing this game? they could even make the game like call of duty, with few weapons and low health, but noooo. the doom guy (i refuse to call him doom slayer) feels too powerful, and can kill demons so easily that there's no tension in the gameplay. and now, doom eternal repeats the same mistakes, but even worse. #notmydoom

Luckly classic doom still exists and is constantly growing and has tons of support. Its not going anywhere. Doom 3 vr is out and its fantastic which shows the series is getting love and who knows about the future. Modern doom is the highest achievement of fps in my opinion but I feel all doom games scratch a itch. Nothing is ruined. Especially classic. All you got to do is play

Imo Doom 3 gets pretty boring halfway through cause it feels like the same sets of enemies and hallways but then picks up on your first trip to Hell. It's by no means a bad game, just doesn't scratch the same itch as 2016 or Eternal.

Pretty sure 2016 and Eternal are the kind of games that promotional video made Doom out to be, being super action-oriented and ultra-violent (pun unintended) and fast while Doom 3 is built off of 64 and the idea of action horror or something.

Doom 3 is as fast as you play it. Thats the thing. People go in and walk slow hide and shoot.. fall for the scared. If you play like a coward the game will treat you like one and it'll be a horror playthough. But the unique thing about 3 is that nothing is stopping you from running around like a bad ass and putting down demons as soon as the pop up. This type of gameplay is even more amplified on nightmare

I try using lightning gun and it's ass when I use it but when other people use it they dookie on me

@unborn oar Yes, it’s quite common actually. Happened to me as well. You have to start a new campaign and do all of the rune trials again. Make sure to get every rune in each level before progressing into the next one. I think backtracking into previous missions and then finishing the rune trials you missed causes the glitch.

and the glitch to clip through levels requires shooting the pistol so you can't just get through the levels without shooting any weapons

I do miss the 2016 Barons

specifically, I love dodging projectiles, The way it pushes you into dancing around the enemy's attacks in interesting ways, I just love the way that feels

And the 2016 Barons, when they did their slam attacks, they shot out projectiles in every direction that you could dance between, and doing that was just really fun. Reminds me of when I used to dance around the Baron's attacks at point blank in the original Doom, shotgun in hand, barely avoiding them

... But the Doom Eternal Barons just do AOE shockwave attacks

I mean, now, I realize that you can just jump over them, but I still don't think that's as fun as projectiles.

Now, obviously the 2016 Barons are a lot easier, while the Eternal ones only exist for the soul purpose of forcing you to move away because they don't go down so easily

... But it's a shame Eternal couldn't have both

Yeah it's an annoying ass issue that us people in the Snapmap discord server have been submitting tickets over and over about. It gets fixed for a week, and then it comes back. Workaround is to subscribe to map author and then filter for that author in snapfeed. That part only will update as soon as it's published

I suspect the Snapmap servers are just on life support at this point

The Pistol was not that great

I don’t remember how many kills I got with just it but I got quite a bit

The only reason to max upgrade the pistol is because one of the challenges in the Necropolis was to kill a Mancubus with a pistol.

Because it's nearly impossible to kill one with out it maxed

The chainsaw, combined with the Ammo Boost rune and the Rich get Richer Rune. Ammo was pleniful

Also you could Carry a lot more than just 24 shotgun shells

Equipment Power makes Grenades very strong

So you can 2 shot Mancubi and powerful even with them

and Charged Pistol Shots with mastery actually do a decent bit of damage

Mainly because that’s the first ever doom game I played

Right now I'm trying to beat Nightmare on each level without using mid-level checkpoints

It's not UN but it does feel sufficiently punishing to discourage messing around

And you can't grind for mastery at a single checkpoint

Nightmare is a good practice for un. It'll help players struggling know which areas are giving them the most issues and when you nail a deathless run you'll know you're ready

Doom 2016 nightmare is weird

Compared to doom eternal, doom 2016 has its "low tier" enemies doing crazy amounts of damage

One imp fireball is like 40 damage, and the fastball is like 60. Early game is pretty tough for this reason

I would say the imps, hell knights, and barons overshadow the threat posed by all the other enemies

Also wow stun bomb is like a gun that shoots the eternal ice bombs

I am of the belief that any can do UN if they commit themselves

The temptation of the mastery challenges will no doubt ruin all my potential UN runs

Some of those Mastery Challenges aren't too hard

Remote Detonation mastery is very easy because you can group zombies together and kill them

Some are really easy

Others are easy if you know where to stack up huge numbers

Like the air mobility and blood fueled can be racked up quickly in the zombie hordes you mow down when you first get the BFG

Thats usually how it works yeah but some have a skill cap. For example I can do un but I could play Mario kart for 5 years straight and still be trash

I do think anyone can conquer it assuming they try to and are improving. Some people may never try or never learn how to further improve

I don't think anyone can do UN challenges or speedrunning

Anyone can theoretically improve enough to beat a harder difficulty, but some require more time than others and if the required training time exceeds what that person is willing to spend on it in their lifetime they will never beat it

There needs to be a strong enough incentive to improve in spite of the opportunity cost of what you could have done with that time instead

Somehow Doom Eternal pushed me to beat it on UN but Doom 2016 UN was something that never interested me

Maybe now that I'm playing it as if I had to map out a UN run, I'll consider it

Going back into Doom 2016 on nightmare after doing UN on doom eternal, I've been dying a lot in the early levels

Doom eternal taught me some bad habits that only apply to doom eternal

Doom 2016 is more about picking off the weak links to maintain a positional advantage

Its just the early bit once you progress far enough you'll be walking on clouds

Honestly I think that the hardest level in 2016 on UN is the first one

You have only the shotgun and the Imps can do 60 damage to you and possessed soldier can do 75

If you can beat like the first 3 levels on UN then the difficulty only drops

That first gore nest in level 2 is really hard too

That one is pretty hard but it can become a lot easier if you use grenades and barrels to your advantage

Yeah explosive barrel resistance is top priority upgrade on UN I imagine

the barrels can kill lots of imps and soldiers and the grenades can kill 3 or more demons at once so it's help to use one there

Environmental Resistance is the first path I always pick with Elite Guards

I think you can hold off on the explosive barrel immunity for awhile

It lowers self weapon damage too so the rocket launcher isn't dangerous by the time you pick it up

Environmental resistance is probably the best upgrade path for elite guards in early game

I always do Powerup Effectiveness next because they start showing up more mid game
