There is a reason why the two games have different lighting. Hugo explained it during one of his gameplay streams.

They felt that since the combat was going to be way faster and more aggressive in DOOM Eternal, they thought that they needed to make sure that every enemy in the combat arena needed to be fully lit so that you as the player could easily see every incoming target.

Hence why everything in Eternal looks evenly lit while 2016 looks a little more moody.

The openness of the levels is one of the worst parts of DOOM 2016

The environments make the entire level look samey, and it’s not hard to get lost, cause the auto map in this game is dogshit compared to Eternal as well as the levels having too much open space and too many alternate paths

Getting lost in these maze like levels is truly a painful experience and it makes me immediately want to stop playing when it happens

I grew up on playing exploratory platform games, especially the Metroid series, so my brain is wired for the kind of more open and maze like map designs of 2016. 2016's maps were right up my alley. Also, I was able to figure out how the design of the AutoMap worked, how every plain represents a surface that Doomguy can walk on, thus I could connect the dots between the AutoMap surfaces and how they relate to the environment. I will agree though that the game's art design didn't give us a lot of visual variety with the environments, something that Eternal did rectify. And yes, the AutoMap in Eternal is leagues above the one in 2016.

You use 2 shots of the BFG and weapon wheel for the first phase, and when the cyberdemon traps you in the second phase, use the weapon wheel again for slo mo

So on the second phase, he traps you in this area and does these cutting stuff so what you can do is weapon wheel, calculate your movement, and basically cheat your way out of it

It's so hard going back to those early fights after finishing a playthrough is tough, just because you don't have all of your upgrades and things like the double jump

So I'm 12 hours into Doom 2016 and I just wanted to share my thoughts and maybe a concern that I have.

First off, as someone who isn't really into FPS games (My history of FPS games is limited to Medal of Honor Underground, CoD WAW, Black Ops, a bit of BO2 and Advanced Warfare and the first 3 episodes of Doom '93), 2016 is a fucking blast. If my heads hurts from playing, that means I'm engaged from what I've discovered.

Although the one thing that's kinda holding me back from enjoying the ripping and tearing are the challenges in each mission. Mainly the "kill/glory kill a specific kind of demon in a specific way" challenges. I feel like I have to accomplish them so that way I'm fully upgraded by the time I fight the Spider Mastermind but doing the challenges kinda takes me out of the the "Doom Zen" state that we all get into because I have to keep moving, kill demons and try to accomplish the challenges.

Yea. I was like crazy overpowered by the time I finished just because I usually got 2 of the tokens, plus each secret gives another token, then killing demons in itself also gives more tokens. There’s no point to go out of your way to complete challenges (unless you are going for 100%)

I'm also a controller player with both DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal on account that playing them both on keyboard & mouse is physically too painful for me. My wrists have been through a lot of wear and tear over the years, and it doesn't help that my hands are always active. I can handle all the other DOOM games on keyboard & mouse just fine, but 2016 and Eternal are just too fast paced and hectic.

No. Nightmare in classic the monsters are faster projectiles faster you get more ammo and the enemies keep respawning

2016 is just more damage from enemies and I believe more aggressive

I find it easier to get higher ranks when I play on higher difficulties. Glory kills give a decent boost. Make sure to be quickswapping to kill enemies faster too.

2016 holds itself together as it manages to be solid in everything within it, whereas Eternal fails in sound design (too cartoony after the last update) and story/lore, while some other attributes like gameplay are better

In 2016, the demons gave DOOMGuy the Slayer title and mark, all of sentinel prime was lost, he was saving worlds (not just sentinel prime) before being blessed, there were more than one dark lord, samuel was a cyborg not an alien, vega was implied to be of demonic origin, etc etc

In Eternal, the Sentinels already had the Slayer rank and mark within their story, as many places meant to have been destroyed before the blessing happened had it, he only got the title after being blessed, he only ever saved sentinel prime once, sentinel prime wasn't lost, just one city that got absorved into hell for some reason, only one dark lord, samur, the father, etc etc
