If you do that you will break the game. The ending has it where defeating the final boss you NEED the BFG9000

Hi everyone, I just finished the dark ages (twice actually) and came back to 2016 after many years (planning to play eternal as well after). But no dodge or block is hard..although the slayer is fast, but the deamons shoot fireballs at me, and if I am in close range it's almost a definite hit..

I think actually, with a skip you only have to do the first arena, after that you can just walk past the other demons and jump over a trigger for the last fight
Also, I recommend you try the first level on just nightmare first to prepare for UN

Interestingly though in that exact area of the game, there's an information panel that has a model of Samuel on as a helper robot or something like that
i swear in that area of the game sometimes the possessed are bugged and are able to be glory killed even when they aren't staggered and have a permanent glow

It's in ARC, just before the gore nest fight that precedes Samuel's office
And yeah I think I've seen possessed do that before
I feel like it should've just been part of the game by default by being able to insta gk possessed
Well you kind of can if you're fast with melee
But if they GK in just one melee it would be less threatening I guess
ARC sometimes bugs for me, usually in arcade mode. Seems to be when I kill everything too quickly and some of the enemies in that room notably a few soldiers and the hell knight don’t spawn, so the door remains locked

If you're on console/switch yikes
Supposedly if you take out three of the filters, clear all enemies, then damage the last filter, you shouldn't have the problem
It will either finish the area or give you one Baron to finish with
However you can actually jump the exit fence, if you gauss jump off the jump pad near it
Kinda tricky to control, but it can be done
I always seemed to get that problem when I instantly broke all the filters and just went to town on the demons. Never if I destroyed them in intervals
Yeah that's the thought, that breaking all the filters too fast can glitch the spawns
Again seems like a similar cause to the one in the ARC, doing everything too quickly

Would you guys consider using task manager to reset to a checkpoint in cases where you just get stuck in UNM cheating
100% speedrunners I've seen all know the fence jump trick, since they're experienced enough
And any% speedruns have skipped that room for a long time, I think
And no, if you get stuck I don't see a problem with force quitting.

Yeah, it’s not a death so I see no problem with it
I actually thought I was soft-locked once, so force quit. Turns out later after seeing someone else in the same area, there was an AFK imp hanging on a wall in a hard to see area I missed
Gotta confess that sometimes I've used task manager when I'm about to fall to my death in a platforming section
But anyway, because I died in Res Ops earlier in the run and restarted from there, it decided to put Res Ops as my checkpoint, not Titan's Realm 
So these days if I die in UN, I don't restart from the death screen, I quit and create a new save
Well in terms of the morality of that, it's up to personal preference
I am all too familiar with the UAC level 
Sometimes you can fall from a ledge grab that didn't work when it was supposed to, so
There won't be many falling deaths in UNM in eternal I think
I take the majority of jumps slowly and carefully in UN just to try and avoid problems
Earlier today on the first gore nest in res ops I jumped onto the box and tried to jump away from an imps fireball and just vibrated for a second before I was incinerated
First time I’ve ever had it happen
I had the most bs death in arc grabbing the bfg a few months ago which resulted in me straight up uninstalling game
My memory is fuzzy but I think somehow I grabbed the bfg, the whole animation with the elevator played but I didn't actually move with the elevator
So I ended up suspended in the air and died from falling even though the lasers were gone
Look on the bright side at least you’ve never died to a possessed

hold on I found out what actually happened by looking in a dm
After the BFG inspection animation finished, it sent them back up to where the BFG was, and then they died from falling damage
yeah that's what happened to me
This person has had plenty of weird falling glitches too
it's funny, when I did my first two playthroughs of doom 2016 (uv then nightmare) and ended up putting in like 34 hours, I never saw any glitches
but as I put in like 300 more hours of just trying to do ultra nightmare, I've seen so many glitches
Like in Tower, they fell through the lightning kind of things nearer the top, where those imps snipe from long range. They also fell through the rising rocks after the dual summoner area in kadingir. And finally, they even fell through the crusher in titan's realm
And yeah as the game has gone on in time, more glitches seem to have appeared
it's to be expected, no game is entirely glitchless
yeah but I feel like some glitches may even have developed through updates
actually the worst thing happened to me a few months ago where my game crashed and I lost all of my progress in singleplayer

Since back in July 2018 someone pointed out that the Doomguy's face appears on that panel really briefly, so I made a video of it
Then sometime later that year or maybe the start of 2019, I hardly ever get the animation there anymore

the only reason I failed so many times is because I wasn't fully focused and half the time I was playing I had some podcast or video playing and the game half-almost entirely muted
at the same time though i want to play doom 3 and 64 since I haven't completed either of them
my last Ultra nightmare run i got the spider-mastermind down to a fucking sliver of health and then it all of a sudden did a 180 and kept turning around and i was trapped in the random undodgeable lasers and died
i cant believe that they made 2016 doom games
they really wanted to outdo bethesda making 76 fallout games

When Doom 2016 dropped, I got the PS4 version as I prefer playing games on my couch. I'm normally decent at console FPS games, but I was getting utterly destroyed and it took me forever to get through the game. I LIKED the game, but couldn't figure out why I was having so much trouble. A year and a half, I picked up the PC version on deep discount in the Steam Summer Sale. I absolutely blew through the game; arenas that would take me days to clear on PS4 got cleared the first time around on PC.
That's why I preordered Doom Eternal on PC. 🙂

How so?
It'll upgrade automatically with megahealth or armour from cells
And if not, just get to full armour, then damage yourself slightly before picking up some shards
The "get to full armor" part isn't exactly easy on Nightmare
If you have equipment power mastered, you can use the siphon grenade to farm armour from enemies too, especially a group of possessed hanging around
you can cheese it by slightly damaging yourself and picking up armor pieces/siphoning from possessed

Yeah my only issue with the switch port is the fuzzy graphics, which I get are necessary to be able to fit the whole game on the switch but they give me a headache

I never denied the existence of input lag. Just said i never noticed it/ never bothered me

Well the only way to really compare is to do other versions and measure the time difference
I can cap my pc to 30 fps and play with the joy con wireless there aswell and record if you want to
You could, but in my experience PC has superior latency anyway
My point more is if compared to the other consoles it's just the latency difference between 60 FPS and 30 FPS, then it's expected
If it's more then yeah it's got bad latency
But generally consoles have more latency than PC even at the same frame rates, for whatever reason they have more processing
Still if it looks significantly slower than PC with a 30 FPS v-sync then yeah it's not good

I think Steam 2016 should have a prompt appear when you press Play that asks you to start directly in either Campaign, MP, or SnapMap mode
instead of having to start in Campaign and then having to restart in MP or SnapMap
I didn't find the jump from UV to NM that bad. When I went to UN from HMP in my first playthrough though... that was madness
Honestly I think it's just learning the game properly
I mean it's like the original DOOM, UV is easy, and NM is on a different scale
In fact I'd say much more of a jump than 2016
I feel like enemies start turning into bullet sponges that one-shot me

You can't play the original on NM without knowing all the maps properly. Kinda the same with 2016
Nah 2016 enemies have the same health whatever difficulty
But yes you take more damage, enemies are more accurate and aggressive, and health and armour pickups give less HP

If you play arcade mode on nightmare, your most recent save might well change difficulty to nightmare too

it's a common glitch with the game. But I can't say it will work for sure.

Hmm, shotgun, super shotgun, rpg, or plasma rifle would be the best bets imo to use there. Reason being
Shotgun has thst stick grenade perfect for breaking special parts.
Super shotgun has meat hooks, u can swap to it and easily hook away or towards enemies
Rpg is the heavy hitter/ crown control. Granted grenades might be able to do thst too
Also plasma rifle seems much more useful for Shields. However not sure how often shield type enemies will appear
There should be a button that allows for switching of weapon mods yes. But I’m not sure how often you would be switching mods. Since this time around all the mods seem pretty balanced, so it would be more so for preference

If you max out the micro missiles, it lets you shoot infinite micro missiles until u run out of ammo
Which is pretty helpful. Sure chaingun is super good, but u don’t really want to stay in place for very long shooting it

The deathmatch mode was added in too late and the game's MP obviously wasn't geared for FFA deathmatch at all
It is really a team MP game where deathmatch itself makes COD's FFA superior just because, well, your enemies can actually die fast.
No really, if Doom 2016's MP had a lower time to kill and weapon loadouts wasn't as clunky as it is (or better, do it the old-school way), it would have been more tolerable
It feels like it takes forever to kill someone if you're not spamming explosives or using the shotgun loadout combo
the issue was that the multiplayer was running on arena mechanics but made with a loadout structure
so the gameplay was focused around map control without spawns
which I guess would be like driving a car without tires
its technically possible but its unpleasant as fuck
I know Doom multiplayer is kind of uh dwindling past its prime, but Doom 2016 failed to recapture a new audience on what made deathmatch fun. And classic deathmatch wasn't in at launch. And CTF, while I know it's more of a Quake thing, isn't done traditionally (except on SnapMap) because we have a one-flag styled game mode with Infernal Run.
And I do not like the mode at all since it's on maps that aren't made with something like CTF in mind and the balance is poor on some maps

In combat you'll have to be fast unless you'll play on the easiest difficulty

its not 100% fast paced

quitting won't corrupt your save file, it just deletes it

If you're serious on completing UN, my personal recommendation is to practise NM until you can do it pretty much without dying, then you will complete UN fairly quickly

And all upgrades
and now for ultra nightmare
I don't get why some people would waste the chainsaw on imps or possessed
when you're in those very first levels before hell knights show up and only have 20 shotgun ammo, its sometimes necessary

Also remember harder the enemy the more fuel it takes
During a test run of 100% NM at AGDQ I ran into an interesting bug where I was able to slot a rune in the third rune slot, despite it being locked. Has anyone experienced anything similar?
I have never heard of this until now, sounds like an interesting way to speed up a speed run tho
The sad reality is that I have no recording of it, and have been unsuccessful in replicating the behavior. It's hard to tell if it was a one-off buffer overflow or what, but that would be a significant piece of speedrun tech if we could figure it out.
I’d be curious as to what led up to it, which level were you on, what rune did you equip, did anything happen before (like entering and leaving a rune challenge) etc
It was Argent Tower, after acquiring the second rune of the level (where you unlock the second rune slot in 100%). After finishing the rune, I tabbed into the rune screen, and for some reason the cursor was on the second rune selection. I hit the down arrow followed by the enter key. I selected and slotted a rune in the third slot. I was then able to slot another rune in the second slot.
This could help with sub 2:20 tactics, for sure. Although, my PBs are clocking me at 2:18 at the moment.
So it’s triggered when unlocking another slot in your rune selection, probably bugs out and unlocks both. I’ll try playing around with it later. Did it still look locked? Like was the locked symbol still over the third slot?
I just need to get acclimated to the new binds before I can start making serious attempts.
It was still locked, and once I mastered the rune in the third slot and removed it, I was unable to slot another rune in it's place.
If during your tests you wouldn't mind seeing if the home/end or page up/down keys contribute, I would appreciate it. I won't be home until Friday, otherwise I'd give it another try.

Being able to start out equipping vacuum to the second rune would have a significant impact.
I assume your mouse position caused the 2nd slot to be hovered already?
That is a possibility, but in my attempts with using the mouse to highlight the second slot, I was unsuccessful in replicating the behavior.
The UI reacts really weirdly with mouse positions, so I’ll have to try that
If my memory serves me well, when I pulled off the glitch, the mouse was barely moved, and my key strokes on the keyboard were quite slow.
The menu does react to previous mouse position, so if you were aiming and shooting, wherever the cursor ended up seems to affect the menus
That is very possible, too. I did perform a 180 to turn around before tabbing into the rune menu.
at least that’s what I’ve noticed in my hours, the mouse position has affected my upgrade menu and whatnot.
That could be the key - if during the 180 I moved the cursor to the left-mid portion of the screen, that could be why the menu defaulted to the second rune selection!
Yeah, it makes sense. My mouse always messes with the menu like that
For replication purposes, I would need the cursor to default to the same location when loading back into the level from the rune trial.
Otherwise, you'd have to sink the cursor into a corner and blindly navigate to the rune slot from there.

Maybe because your mouse is on the second slot, but then you use the keyboard to move to the third, it basically does the same thing that happens with the praetor menu
because we know that we can access different menus despite not even touching them and that’s how the upgrade bug happens

We've started handling menu in a different, more hands-off-the-mouse manner, in order to avoid the area scanning upgrade bug that you referenced. It makes perfect sense if the cursor location is stored before tabbing in.

difficulty settings are different in doom eternal as well so definitly speedrunning will be a bit different from 2016
I’m gonna guess 6-7 hours for NM 100% in Eternal
first 3 levels are about 3 hours for normal playing
so probably about 45 minutes to an hour for a speed runner
The dash mechanic is going to shake up the muscle memory profiles across the two games
timing dashes between combat arenas is going to be tough
I’ll be interested to see how the new engine affects the run too

i just gotte say, the runes in doom eternal look way easier to get than the doom 2016 runes
well it recharges super fast on the ground
so i dont think hopping is a great idea

in nuDoom you can spam weapon mods to takedown the strongest enemies easily
and the BFG is less of a skillful weapon like it was in the classic games and more of a get-out-of-jail free pass
I watched an interview with hugo Martin talking about that. He pretty much said that they tried to steer eternal into a spot where you more need to utilize the right tool for the right demon essentially

they eliminated the useless axe and replaced it with something that you may want to use

when you turn on simple crosshair, you cant easily see if your mods are ready to shoot, and the plasma rifle simple crosshair is tiny and becomes even harder to see when you turn up the fov
