Idk, I think Halo's gameplay and style is so distinctly "Halo" with the two-weapon limit, recharging shields, and very specific combat and weapons sandbox that trying to DOOM-ify it would just make it a DOOM game with aliens.

And regarding more gore beyond the Flood and exceptions like that, Bungie tried to make it work again and again but it just doesn't work with Halo.

Although I wouldn't mind a spin-off not connected to the mainline games that does some of that and tries new things too.

A DOOM 3 style game where you play as a Marine on a Flood-infested UNSC ship would be pretty rad.

With 2016, I can understand it in the sense of how slowly the game gives you your full arsenal.
By the time you hit Vega's level, you're on the second last level before the finale. And by that time you do have your loadout. Compared to how every other Doom game gives you your arsenal much more sooner.

Maybe only other Doom game that slowly gives you your full loadout is Doom 3.
But even then I feel the only gun the game doesn't drop onto you till much later is the BFG.

Honestly I think the default keybinds are mostly pretty good, I have weapon mod swap set to R and chainsaw set to X. As for graphics, do whatever your PC is capable of, but I always set my frame rate to 60 FPS. And Hurt Me Plenty is a good start difficulty

For the mp I'd say you try to get a group together. Me and another guy are currently looking for people too, since we only need a few more achievements. Grinding xp can be annoying but if you really don't want to grind, there's a mod that allows you to gain xp in practice (bot) matches and you can also turn the xp gain up. It's kinda cheating, like really, but since the multiplayer is as good as dead with the few people playing it being cheaters, I'd say it's fair game

One main component I wish Id would keep intact across the modern doom games was keep the level of immersion/interactivity.
Upon playing Doom 2016 again, seemed like a perfect mesh of classic Doom and Doom 3 as inspiration.
You can see plenty of Doom 3 influence throughout the UAC. Tbf, also helps that the lead environment designer is the same person that did Doom 3.

Like Dead Space, Doom 2016 is a game with nearly no cuts.
You're entirely in control the whole time. Never any disconnect from you and Doom Marine.

I mean, it's not mistake, but still weird that infinite ammo Pistol has shells. Also in dossier it says it recharges from player movement, like of MP/Snapmap weapons.

I don't remember exactly how to delete it, since I did it in 2020, but I assume:

generated/decls/weapon/weapon/zion/player/sp/pistol.decl

You need to remove whole "shellEmitter" code in this file.

Wanted to make teleporter grenade, but got stuck with it, even though it's sort of working.

About them: 2 are speed variations (Haste, Slowmo), 2 damage variations (Berserk, Quad), 2 health variations (Mega and Invulerability), 1 Regen, 1 invisible (basically fully T0yOta one, but with additional enemies), 1 protection (Environmental), 1 Unkillable.

Since, there is absurd damage multipilier (3.0 or something) it's expectable, in my opinion. I remember blade and especially laser deals a lot of damge.
Most funny thing - when I did Pistol run here, I got killed by his wall. 😅

It's 40*3 with player damaga 1.0, which mean 120 damage per scythe attack. So, while it shouldn't kill with 195 probably it can kill with a bit less.
So yeah it may be a bug, like with Pinkies insta killing with charge attack.

Hard to determine, try Vulkan API in settings and see how it fares

It actually may have sense, since some modern graphic cards may have issues with older games. And I already heard about such issues for owners of most recent RTX cards.
Usually (not related to cards) it was issue with Vulkan or OpenGL, in some cases it was related to drivers (too old or too new).
Does it have any message spam in in-game console?

Good luck with it! Hope you'll be able to beat it - if I remember correctly I beated it once and I definitely won't return to UN ever again. Really don't like permadeath/1 life thing.

The only other solution is to lower all setting, see, if that helps and add 1 by one to see, which may be a cause.
It also may be something related to other programs or FPS non-capped or graphic card is OC.

Honestly, they are very rare and quite weak in my opinion. Damage and speed are fine, but summons can be good or useless and Lock On is instant death to them.
Archviles are cooler, even though I like Summoner design and idea a bit more.

Once I get to that achievement, I think my strat will be to pick a health number, say like 30. And every time you get down to that number, reload the last checkpoint since death will be likely at that point

Plus there are a fair number of attacks that can instakill you even from 100+ health, so odds are if you’re at 30 health, it’s already too late

Like the cyberdemon, for example—his blade attack deals 120 damage and in his second phase he tosses out 3 of them in quick succession

I mean for this game if you're doing UN simply for the experience (literally zero rewards) you might as well commit and just play without reloading saves

probably to make sure you're fully kitted-out

I think Dark Ages was particularly silly about it though
22 missions and no actual unique bosses until mission 20
and then you just basically get all of them at once

I do think Eternal shoulda given you the dash in the first level, there was really no reason for withholding it. The level basically teaches you about weakpoints and then leaves you alone -- there's plenty of space for one more thing
Similar feeling about the shield throw in TDA, but at least in that case the first level was already teaching a lot so it made some sense to pace it out

TDA and Eternal don't follow 2016 in 1:1. Also about vacuum thing - it's absurd. Generally speaking there are quite few things in Eternal, which are absurd (like Slayer shooting himself like projectile and other stuff). I generally dislike a lot desire to show Slayer "cooler than Chuck Norris" after 2016. Sure, in 2016 he was also like god-like, but it was way more grounded. But must admit it's funny, when Slayer does all these things in Eternal and then can't melee zombie and dies from it.

From what I remember all upgrades and abilities are related to suit in 2016: health, armor, ammo, suit upgrades, argent cells upgrades and runes. Maybe even Glory Kills. That's why at the start of a game, Slayer can't GK or get health.
The only issue I have with suit thing in 2016 is that it somehow gives ammo, like if non-argent weapons would work on argent stuff thing. But that's like why there are human weapons in Titan's Realm. Maybe I forgot and humans or human like species were there, but not sure about that.

Also regarding previous things:

It does help survive long falls, but only for certain height. All Runes and Suit upgrades do useful things. Same for Eternal with only difference it has now separate upgrade for grenades, flaming belch and dash (and it has blade for visuals).

The absurdity of Eternal and TDA aren't the least bit related to how useless the 2016 suit is in the context of Doom 2016. You're constantly limited gameplay wise by it with shit like fall damage, the geriatic runspeed and the pitiful amounts of HP regained from killing enemies which the suit is supposed to assist you with. Narrative wise, you have VEGA nonchalantly climbing in without your authorization and the whole affair with Samuel's tethers.
I just fail to understand how someone blessed by a literal angel and fabled to be strong enough to kill titans with his own hands in lore would need a hitech suit to survive human environments, and also manage to be completely defenseless against a swarm of small imps.

Just saying, but if I woke up after centuries of slumber only to find someone was able to strip off my hi-tech mega indestructible powersuit, I would think twice before putting it on because God knows what the fuck they did to it. And 2016 is chockful of reasons why.

We're talking a dude who punched out an army officer, jumped into a teleporter at the end of the Phobos anomaly, was killed and sent to hell, rappeled down to the surface, made it out alive, then went on another rampage after finding out killed his literal pet rabbit.

His entire approach is 'fuck the rules'. The cannon scene may be silly but it's completely inline for him, as well as shooting a hole into Mars to spite Hayden. The problem I find in 2016's approach is that isn't particularly consistent with this. Doomguy wants to break the rules but then HAS to listen to Hayden ramble on for minutes to tell him where to go and what to do, only to get fucked over by him at the end of the game.

The critical aspect that differentiates 2016 from DE and TDA is its smaller scope to set the groundwork for what was to follow. If they had never played it up it would've turned stale seeing him just do 'normal' things the entire time.

Also, if you look around in the Fortress of DOOM in Eternal, you’ll see pieces of the 2016 suit. He rebuilt his suit because of that tether. And also, he didn’t willingly let Samuel install it, Samuel surprise-installed it when Doomguy entered his office.

So when you have comedic scenes juxtaposed against the more 'realistic' backdrop of the game, it does look a little jumbled up and random.

Fall damage is not fun gameplay wise, I agree, but more logical and grounded than teleportation in Eternal. There are limits to impact compensation. Doom 2016 went more for immersion, while Eternal for gameplay.
Runspeed is fair for Eternal too without Dash.
Amount of HP is balance issue not suit issue and it's only fair for 2016 Nightmare runs. where it's min/max balance.
VEGA/tethers aren't an issue of original suit, but upgrades, which were installed in it (hacked), while Slayer was unable to know, to oppose it or to have time to fix it (since invasion and stuff).

Both gameplay and narrative in 2016 are heavily insistent that Doomguy is super strong and capable, and yet none of his feats could be attributed to the fact he's wearing the praetor suit. Under scrutiny you realize it's actually a detriment for him to be wearing it.

I'm going to let you in on a little secret. The only reason the lore insists that it's mega important is because the game was rebooted from its original pitch. The original pitch for 2016 was a hard reboot of Doom 1, with the UAC base being overrun by demons. Doomguy's entire platoon wearing hi-tech armor and wielding Plasma Rifles gets killed off, while Doomguy is left with an old ass suit and a HAR to fend for himself.

They didn't want to ditch the suit, so they worked up some bullshit about it being ancient or whatever despite it being obviously human design and that's why he sticks with it. It's not actually special, they just say it is lol. It's some random ass suit.

i find them fun even if I dont think their fundamentally good

and in the end the fun i get from watching the hype moments and aura trumps the dissapointment I get from a lackluster quality in the story when it comes to doom bc the games as a whole are a mishmash of hype moments and aura in gameplay too, so the hype moments and aura driven story adds to that in the end

Both gameplay and narrative in 2016 are heavily insistent that Doomguy is super strong and capable
True about narrative, but not about gameplay in any game. Sure, he's stronger than normal human in reboot and lore-wise I'm not sure that he can be killed unlike gameplay-wise.
Gameplay-wise:

• In Doom 1 he's survives more thanks to weapons, health, armor and having luck of protagonist.
• In reboot thanks to health, armor, weapons, ability to refill them and Runes, suit upgrades. Edited: and lore+luck of protagonist too, lol.

and yet none of his feats could be attributed to the fact he's wearing the praetor suit.
I said many times about upgrades, you just ignoring it. Suit doesn't do his work, sure, but helps on a journey. It's not useless. And lore-wise - sure, he doesn't need suit, but as I said, if we take "cool" lore into account than whole gameplay should be based on Berserk powerup solely.

Random or not this suit clearly not uselss. In both 2016 and Eternal it's way more useful gameplay-wise than orginial armor in Doom 1, 2 due to possible upgrades.

That's my simple argument.

the biggest inconsistency I see with story and gameplay is the implied power of the Slayer, the story does it to hype you up which is good, but sometimes when comparing to the gameplay you get a little confused in retrospect when its evident that hes moreso a super soldier and expert marksman than a 100% melee unbeatable godlike creature. What makes the Slayer cool in the end for me is just how good he is at what he does that despite his vulnerabilites and even past deaths, he refuses to give in and pushes through

talking as someone with a gf here, there is a occasional tendency (probably born out of gender roles) like playing more story driven games with less of the male fantasy with guns aspect for example. This doesnt apply to all girls at all, to think so would be stupid, but due to the nature of gender roles and society there is a apparent divide between what girls and boys play sometimes, not always

1. It isn't because you're stating the obvious.
2. I'm talking purely in the context of 2016. Hayden and VEGA are easily able to graft shit on top of it. The scientists studying Doomguy were able to remove it from him. Seems a lot more basic than the lore insists that it is.
3. Being able to swap weapons faster, hold two nades at once, ledge grabbing? Those are the upgrades? Are we for real? Runes would've been more fitting, but even then how can we be sure he needs the suit for it? The only one that ACTUALLY matters is explosive barrel invulnerability and even then Eternal's can do it too.

Again, I really hate that 2016 takes the angle of the suit doing all the work when Doomguy is so capable on his own and nothing about it is that remarkable. It's pretty dumb.

Anyway I'm done with the argument, it's boring, going nowhere and I don't think I'm going to be changing my mind.
