Hello – I was not a fan of DOOM 3. The level designs were very mazey, it was pitch black in a lot of it and it was too predictable: pick up a health box and a demon spawns. After 8 hours i quit playing. I was blown away at first by how great it looked, but then it became totally dark and predictable. Flashlight or gun...... not both – that was annoying.

There's a number of differences, actually.
First off, the total amount of available ammo is pretty much doubled.
Second, you move just a little bit faster. Also, the lighting is overall brighter. A number of characters and such have new, higher res textures.
All of the loading screens and menu screens have completely different graphics.
The BFG Edition also includes controller support. However, unlike the original version, you cannot skip through cut scenes.

The BFG Edition also includes native 1080 HD widescreen support. Also, oddly enough, there was a gameplay function in the original version where you could zoom in on something you were looking at, but it was omitted in the BFG Edition.
Also, the BFG Edition includes an episode called "Lost Mission," as well as slightly altered versions of The Ultimate DOOM and DOOM II which you can select and play from the opening menu.
Overall, the BFG Edition is a slightly easier and more accessible way to play DOOM 3, especially if you're playing on console. There are a lot of DOOM fans that prefer the original version for its darker and more stylized lighting and original graphics, as well as its smaller ammo pool and having to choose between either having your weapon drawn or using your flashlight. They feel it makes the game more tense this way, which is what id Software intended with the mechanic. Personally, I also prefer the original version over the BFG Edition.

If you're looking for the original version of the game, if I remember correctly it's available on Steam. Bethesda.net says that it sells the original version on their store alongside the BFG Edition, but it's misleading. Their "original version" is actually just a repackaged re-release of the BFG Edition minus The Ultimate DOOM and DOOM II and with the option to sign-in to a Bethesda.net account from the main menu.

I have played with dhewm3 before, but I'm not a big fan of how the mouse cursor movement is so slowed down in the menu screens. Also, just a nit-picky pet peeve of mine, but I also don't like how it horizontally stretches the heads-up display readouts. I prefer their proper proportions in the original vanilla version.

You're right. I forgot that there is an original XBox port of DOOM 3. However, a number of alterations had to be made in concession for that console. I do believe there are some videos about it.

They're both very similar in that they both have a horror based narrative style that takes itself seriously, a slower combat style than traditional DOOM, and their gameplay also relies heavily on shadows, moody lighting, and jump scares to frighten you.
Granted, Dead Space's combat is still faster than DOOM 3's since it was mainly inspired by Resident Evil 4.

It should. If you were playing DOOM and DOOM II via the Unity Engine ports, you might want to try the Crispy DOOM source port. It doesn't feel too different from the Unity ports, and it's a more authentically vanilla presentation of the original 90's releases.

when you install both DooM 3 and RoE — you don't have to enter keys manually
both games are installed - run original doom first. it grabs its key automatically. but it will ask to enter RoE key — don't enter it
just quit game, and run RoE — it will automatically grab the key

It's remarkable how quickly you can run through Doom 3 if you know what you're doing, but the zombie soldiers/guards are still the worst thing about the game, and they are common earlier in the game rather than later

If the hand grenade was more reliable the soldiers wouldn't be as annoying, even though I still fall back on the grenades a lot against them

Not only is the BFG Edition much brighter, but it also has double the total ammo, moves a little faster, has an altered flashlight mechanic where it can be used at the same time as having your weapon drawn, has more automatic savepoints, has widescreen 1980x1080 resolution support, and includes two DLC mission packs, Resurrection of Evil and Lost Mission.
A lot of DOOM 3 fans are divided about which version they like more.

Also, the BFG Edition changes all of the menu screens and loading screens from the original game, and even some of the character graphics were altered a little for the BFG Edition.
Personally, I prefer the original 2004 version, but that's just me.

Also, if you want to have native 1980x1080 widescreen resolution support for the original 2004 DOOM 3 without having to alter any of the game's files, there is a source port out there called dhewm3. Unlike manually creating widescreen support via altering the game's files, dhewm3 will give you 1980x1080 res widescreen during regular gameplay while keeping the original 4:3 aspect ratio in all of the menu and loading screens so that none of those screens will look unnaturally horizontally stretched. The only drawbacks are that it will horizontally stretch the HUD graphics with the exception of the target reticle, and the mouse cursor will move more slowly in the menu screens.

That event also had unlockable Icons and Titles related to Super Turbo Turkey Puncher 3 which is an easter egg in DOOM 3. I think your source of information was confused by that imagery, thinking they had to have their Bethesda re-release of DOOM 3 linked to their Bethesda.net account in order to get the Cultist Slayer skin.

If they just didnt mention the years in Doom 3 I could say the Slayer was the one in the tomb at the end and it wasn't until Samuel Hayden they were smart enough to figure out who he really was and how to get him out

DOOM 3 isn't that type of game. The combat is much slower, and the gameplay style more resembles a survival horror style game rather than a fast paced arena shooter.
