that was tough on first playthrough for me as well
the trick is to remember you can stand in the middle, on the brown sludge, without taking damage
also, remember that infighting is possible and is your friend throughout that map
ill keep that in mind when i try agai nin a couple hours

they give you a plasma so I think so? Probably very improbable to not have SOME infighting even by accident though

You can make the argument it still is a spinoff since it isn't an id-created game (developed by Midway), and if you asked that a few years ago I'd agree that it def was a spinoff
But with how much attention it got with a proper port (and being tied with Eternal in some ways) it definitely feels like a mainline entry now. Marketing changed a lot of how it's viewed I guess
at worst it is the third Final DOOM game, at best it is the third classic doom mainline entry

Final DOOM is a really funky one since it is technically just DOOM II, yes, but it's completely separate in the sense of not being wads like Master Levels levels were

TNT is one of the classics
that alone justifies at least playing it once IMO. Same logic goes for the master levels

Back when I was in a very dark place last year, playing classic Doom games (besides the modern ones) is a best coping mechanism I've ever used
I find it the opposite. I love shoving meathook up a demons throat and in full graphics they get their head exploded and their body punched against a wall.
I've used cookie clicker for that in the past. Just something to keep my mind on, vaguely interested

I wouldn't recommend Sigil 1, or especially 2, for a newcomer
I'd recommend going in order of release, really - Doom 1, then 2, then Master Levels, then TNT, then Plutonia. If you want custom stuff, Fava Beans isn't a bad place to start

it's doable, but it might be one of the top 5 hardest maps in the wad for me
which is pretty damning when it's that early
most other maps give you plenty of ammo and space to fight the enemies in, that one kind of doesnt

But not doing any of that, saves for now. So far my hardest map in doom was bstx map 24
I didnt get that far in btsx, was really bored halfway through
I did that on map 24 as a challenge
I didnt have a good time doing it on Legacy of rust so I stopped and started saving

Look for anti aliasing or texture filtering in the settings. Make sure they are off

I don't know how to figure out what is for the original DOS version (I assume it is 90 for simplicity's sake) but it is higher when using multiple monitors

I just loaded DSDA DOOM to see, its aspect ratio and screen resolution settings are separate and aspect ratio does affecct FOV. There isn't a dedicated FOV setting that I ccacn see

Ended up not being the case with Doom 64 releasing the following year.
Although you could consider Doom 64 as Final Doom part 3.
But it wouldn’t make sense back then since Doom 64 was obviously only on N64 until the Kex port.
Although effectively Final Doom is a mainline title. At least the Classic Doom collector’s edition makes me believe it was the first evidence of Final Doom being mainline.

Hey guys I seem to have a problem with the add-ons or mods on console (ps4) , I've seen many people access a plethora of mods in a specific mod menu but I can only access add-ons menu with there being only 22 add-ons, is there an update I missed or am I using the wrong version
You seem to be on the Unity version, go to the store and install DOOM + DOOM II. It should be free for you as you own the older version

I would like to think it was possible, it'd probably be most runner's default way of acomplishing it, but from what I've sene it is the opposite where the strategies are usually aggressive and go for speed.

Nightmare mode has respawning enemies, sticking around long term is silly
when i play NERF i forget that respawning monsters is a thing
so i die to arachnotrons in MAP03
Also, hitscanners attack instantly in Nightmare, and you cant dodge them. So you need to move quickly

pretty much everything you're asking for already exists. there are literally mods that add double jumping, and ledge climbing too. the only thing not there is the actual 2016+ maps afaik, but there are mapsets that people made, that try to emulate them.

it's a nice idea. they could call it Doom 2016 De-make or something. but even still, since stuff like that is already available with mods in their biggest consumer market (PC gamers) and for free, they might rather spend time working on the next big project that will make them 10x more money in sales.

Out of curiosity has anyone else been trophy hunting in doom on PS4 and when you went for the Im the Man trophy you got it way too early? For some reason I got mine in E2 M6
I'm pretty sure it's because it tracks the time across all playthroughs for the trophy
So if you do E1M1 in 8 seconds and E1M2 in a minute on one save, and E1M1 in one minute and E1M2 in two minutes on another save, your best times will be taken into account, you'll have 8 seconds on E1M1 and one minute on E1M2
I've made it to the halfway point of TNT: Devilution and I think it's time for me to bow out.
I'll never understand people's fascination with 30+ minute maps in classic DooM, especially megawads filled to the brim with them. Every level feels like a massive undertaking with labyrinthine layouts, keys placed 2 miles away from their respective doors, and (at least in this case) a consistent drip feed of demons with only the occasional "Main Event" fight.
I don't mind the occasional magnum opus late in a megawad—that's what maps 28 & 29 are for—but classic DooM is supposed to be snappy, fun combat that can be finished in 5-15 minutes. I'll play one of the modern games if I want to explore a single level for an hour.

Eternal Doom's first level is a maze with backtracking. That almost singlehandedly made me quit
If this is at all accurate, I get the feeling I won't enjoy it either. I prefer the Plutonia field of level design, where you deliver a high pain per m^2, but the levels are nice and snappy to keep you going through them

its way too sprawling and confusing and I spend half of my time there lost
the way that he deals with key switches and doors doesnt help
Nuclear Horror tries my patience just a wee bit
I really like how gusta makes difficult fights without making a large slaughterfest too
you dont need 140 revenants to make things difficult
Arch Violence has less than 100 enemies, but almost every fight is a ball buster
One or two false moves and you're done
that said the occasional slaughterfight is fun in a wad but I dislike wads that are just pure slaughter

Plut 2 has a few slaughter maps. Specifically a few, and only near the end, which is ideal
plut 2 is a wonderful wad in general, really at the border of what I can take as difficulty too

my heart goes out to people doing pl2 and such without saves tho

I myself try to not outright savescum but I do generally save before fights and sometimes during difficult ones

I do pistolstart+no saves with my NM100S (not for speed but for rules) attempts at doom1 tho
I record demos too, just to have kind of proof for myself
I dont run for time however
so far I got e1m1 e1m2 e3m1 e3m2 e3m3
latter of which took like 120 attempts to finish without dying lol
I have done e2m8 in the past just for fun tbh, I should record a demo, thats probably the easiest map to nm100s, since the cybie becomes easier on nm

Their fragility is greatly mitigated by instant firing
Nightmare is agony but it's fun to see how far you get. The glitched easier version in the Xbox 360 versions was super fun to play through

Most fun I've had playing Doom 1
DOOM 1 is one of my most replayed games
Doom 2 is mine if you count all the wads
It has enough that you could play just those and nothing else for years

Some of them have issues. Aliens TC didnt work well on my GZDoom, and I cant see UZ fixing that
If it doesnt use much dehacked magic it should work fine on UZDoom
It sounds like ZDOOM has trouble with Dehacked, especially based on those screenshots earlier of the physical pass errors.
Simpler dehacked worked fine on my copy of GZDoom. Batman Doom also worked fine
TNT 2 Devilution Map 10 is tough man goddamn

Just to note: some of the maps I listed, some of them contain extremely large colossal sized maps, you might encounter some lag here and there for your 3ds to handle so keep in mind

Doom 1 and 2 have so many expansion packs/official WADs, it’s honestly overwhelming. The Kex port gives you the Master Levels, Final Doom, No Rest for the Living, Sigil 1 and 2, and Legacy of Rust.
That’s 7 extra WADs in addition to Doom 1 and 2.
Technically 5 if you count Final Doom as its own thing, which it was initially released that way.

Well, Thy Flesh Consumed wasn’t bought separately with Ultimate Doom. It always felt like a bonus episode, an extra challenge.
Compared to something like Sigil which is just a separate WAD.

And I guess Sigil 1 and 2. Those are more like Doom 1 Aftermath.

If we're being literal here the release of DOOM that has E4 is a seperate WAD to the one that doesn't have it, so it is by technicality a seperate WAD
More than likely though, a new player would mainly just touch Doom 1 (All 4 main episodes), Doom 2, and maybe even Final Doom, and then Doom 64 when it comes to Classic Doom.
Final is usually skipped by newer fans from what I've seen

The only sad thing and this makes sense is that there will be no music with the mods just sound I don't think I can fix that though it's fine. Mainly because you have to have the music file in order for it to work and I don't even know where to look for that.

level 1 left me with no choice because of all of the damn shotgunners
and the fact that one of the keys is evil
because as soon as you get it a bunch of enemies spawn
there was only one of the red devils it wasent that bad

there was this one level with a bunch of teleports
that one was bad too
and another cyberdemon near the end of the stage...
this episode really makes you miss the super shotgun

Hitscanners do so very easily. Its nearly impossible for other enemies to infight another of their kind, and only in a very specific way

they changed their bite from a short ranged hit scan to some other kind of check so you have to do some weird tomfoolery (likely the same kind that can get barons to infight or cacodemons to kill themselves) to get them to infight

There's a very good fan patch that fixes all of the big issues of you want to play a "good" version
I feel like daikatana is more entertaining if you like poking around unfinished/half baked projects. Even with the fan patch, it’s still a slog (especially episode 1) due to the level design alone
If it has difficulties I’ll play it raw on standard and use the patch for hard mode

"DOOM I + II" - For some reason, the game won't run in anything other than 640x480 @ 60hz? I used to have it run 1080P, 144 blah blah blah. Tried all rendering modes, windows/fullscreen/etc, uninstalled + reinstalled (Steam).
just play on a fanmade port (sourceport) for doom at this point
UZDoom or Zandronum
Uzdoom for playing doom and complete total conversion mods and other weird mods
Zandronum for playing doom on multiplayer (still need to install other third party software to play multiplayer doom with Zandronum, btw)
i should mention Zandronum can also play zdoom mods on multiplayer, buuut it is an outdated gzdoom port so it really can't play most zdoom mods
Nugget doom way better
I personally prefer UZDoom and Crispy Doom for modern and classic runs
not only it can emulate the game really well, but also supports tons of features and QoL that even most modern sourceports don't have, while also supporting tons of doom engines to play custom made maps

also the fact that if you like the 1990s retory look for doom, while still wanting that 1920x1080 fullscreen, nugget doom has that covered for you
