yo quick queestion for people who have played sigil 2 I have encountered a bug in e6m4 where the platform wont be raised up for me to continue after you lower the red bars and press the switch what can I do?
i was using doom strict but changed it to boom and it immediatly worked anyone know why this happens
when you try to connect to zdaemon but you have to download a 300 mb file for 70 years
GZdoom's "doom strict" is not perfectly emulating the doom engine the way that dsda does.

Gotta be honest -- I didn't check the exact level. But I have played sigil2 and do know that it's designed for limit removing. So running dsda on -complevel 2, it'll run just fine
While GZdoom defaults will run most stuff, you're always at risk of something breaking that wasn't designed for it
Sigil 2 was tested on GZDoom, which is making me wonder why it broke

limit removing does mean -CL 2 though

"Vanilla" means -CL 2 with all engine eccentricities and visiplane stuff. Ie keep all-ghosts possible and it should work in dos limitations. Limit removing means -CL 2 but you're expected to use a limit extending port like dsda and are not expected to keep all-ghosts on
From a player perspective, they're identical tbh. It's just a mapper consideration
There are extremely minor gameplay differences that a player could notice between the common complevels, but this is purely mapper side

some of them you need to hit a specific switch and then backtrack, some you need to interact with an out of place wall, some are triggered by walking over a certian point

Scythe 2's 5th episode is already choking me
lack of SSG and ammo in the first two maps is what's getting me
I'm aware SSG is in map22, so by then it's just the lack of ammo
oh yeah, and the bloody revs as always
I don't know why but I just cannot dodge them at all
even their unguided missiles, I always get hit by them
never had this much of an issue with them in any other map I've played
guess the guys who made Scythe 2 knew how to use those damn revs
so yeah, any tips on conserving ammo on this map (with the exception of using the beserk pack, which I'm pretty much saving for health due to how often I'm getting hit)
what sucks is that most of the time they bundle the same enemies in the same room, so infighting is near impossible
the start of the map has a lot of the classic big map things: where you need to get a particular set of enemies dead to make an area safe. Then that safe area lets you eliminate another group to expand your safe zone. Secrets can be used to avoid one of the fights
Citadel at the Edge of Eternity is agonizing
you could try using chocolate doom
it is nearly identical to the original version but runs on modern operating systems without having to use dosbox
the revs are the absolute worst on this map
I've died to the starting cyber once
I've died to revs at least 20 times

every other mapset and IWAD I've played, I've had literally no issue with revs
here I'm constantly dying to them all throughout Scythe 2
I'd imagine about 90% of my deaths are from revs
issue is with the invuln at the start
don't use it at the start and 4/10 times I will take too much damage due to the revs
use it at the start and I have no time to use it on the revs in the second area and I will die to either the revs or a combination of the revs and the mastermind
screw it, I'm save scumming this level

In Scythe 2, the huge difficulty spike from the jungle episode is known as the Great Shelf

Revenants suck, even long after Scythe 2..I still hate them lol
I dont know if I'd even count that map as slaughter. There are a lot of enemies, but so many snipers and regular encounters with some tight space. The last fight is slaughtery maybe

Why doesnt the modern port of doom 1 and 2 have online multiplayer?
Even the Xbox 360 versions had online and those versions were terrible
Probably because they thought "oh, it'd be more accurate to the originals!" despite the fact DWANGO existed

basically, crosshairs are usually the indicator where the shot will go for modern games
Doom, however, doesn't have freelook unlike modern games
people who've only played modern Doom games or other modern shooters would look at an enemy above or below them and see the crosshair isn't pointed at them

i should probably finish doom 2, i never actually finished it. I eventually got to map27 but was getting very very bored and annoyed with the level design and i was already diving into custom maps by that point and they were just much more interesting

map23 was a pain even with saves
ironically I died less times on the final fight than I did on the first
its much less hectic
oh yeah the final fight is really not that bad lol
I didn't notice the exit at first so I died a bunch
then I realized where it was and just ran spamming BFG
basically in map23 its just like out of the frying pan and into the fire and then out of that fire and into another fire and then another
but with map24 there is some breathing room in between
there are definitely some brutal fights dont get me wrong

i dont have to stress as much about ammo and health because they will always be reset at the end of each map
and if i screw up my save file somehow im not losing the entire playthrough but just that map

though I find pistol starting harder because of a lack of weapons
I prefer to have my arsenal avaliable to me
I'm also one of those people that like progression that doesn't get wiped
why I hate extraction shooters
it is definitely harder
but it is also what the map was balanced around and tested with the majority of the time

today i learned that the default midi devices for doom source ports are not accurate to the sounds of how the music was originally composed

does anyone else think the fixed sprites are better than the originals?
what fixed sprites
The sprite fixing project is a fan made thing that...fixes some of the issues of the sprites: Some sprites have holes in them that are transparent. There are also correct rotational sprites for the zombies that have existed from the early days but were simply never added into the final game.
in og doom did they ever design the bottom/top of the cacodemon
also IIRC the chaingunner sprites when firing from the different angles are not positioned properly, and moves disproportionately as a result of the sprites not being centered
Nothing has a bottom/top probably because they assumed you'd probably never see them like that

the story line? Could you tell me like...2 events in the story? Or dialogue? Play what you like. The order it was released was e1, e2,e3, doom2, then e4. So maybe go in that order if you're having trouble

hi quick question how do I 2 shot the cyber demon im watching a secret guide for sigil 2 and i can never 2 shot the cyber with the bfg I dont get how im not doing it correctly but it always requires me upto 5 bfg shots
You need to be in the cyber’s face so all tracers and the ball hit the cyber
I don’t really pull it often so I don’t know any specifics
That's basically it. Wait for him to shoot his second rocket, and then you want to shoot your BFG shot while dodging his third rocket and stepping toward him. It doesn't always happen, but if you send him skating backwards that's usually an indication that he took full damage and you just need to repeat the process one more time to kill him.
Load up e2m8 with idkfa to practice fighting cybers: The The bfg has a few phases:
- pull trigger
- time elapses
- BFG ball fires and tracer angle locks in
- When ball lands, direct damage is dealt(about rev health on average
- Time elapses
- mega shotgun fires from your person in the direction where the tracer angle was locked. This is where the majority of the damage comes from. about 2000+ damage. You need to be practically kissing the cyber for full damage. Your angle is irrelevant at this point. Only where you fired the ball initially
The timing is just after the cyber fires his first rocket, you pull the trigger. Check a decino video for a more visual explanation. A lot of it is timing but a lot is understanding what happens

Once the cyber fires his second rocket, pull the bfg trigger to charge it up, then dodge the third rocket and push up close to get both the ball and tracers their maximum damage potential. If done properly, all cybers die in 2 bfg trigger pulls
the bfg does more damage the closer you are to it, so shortly after the cyber fires its first rocket, begin firing the bfg, then run up to him snaking past the second and third rockets so that the bfg goes off when you are direclty in front of him
if you time it right it will blast him before he would have the chance to shoot again and kill you

My playthrough of Level 58 (The Mansion) of Doom for the Sony PlayStation, played through ePSXe on the Ultra Violence difficulty, getting 100% Kills and 80% Secrets. I'm not sure if getting 100% Secrets is possible in this map, because the secret with the Armor hardly ever tags. Maybe if you try hard enough it will tag, but I can't guarantee that.

you can get every single Addon in the Unity port on either the iDGames Archive or some other website (like Romero's)
if you're talking about missing out on custom content, source ports are absolutely the way to go. Sure it takes an extra literal minute to search and download stuff -- but everything people have made in the last 30 years is available, not just the handful of options that Bethesda/ID approved of

I'm currently on level 29, and I'm softlocked on the part with the 3 buttons, I have 13hp and can't switch platforms due to the lava killing me instantly
you could just pistol start the level as map30 gives you everything you need to finish the game

for your actual question, if Xbox has a manual cloud save feature (as in you manually back up and load save data), maybe

That’s why you’re getting such low frames on that map..
Even my main rig only gets like 10 FPS on those maps using GZ
If you wanna run those maps at good frame rates, consider something like PrBoom+, which is known for handling a lot of things on screen at once
GZ isn’t built for maps with that many enemies
If I could test things out, I would see if I can get a boost of FPS messing with settings on GZ but I currently can’t
Also, the test may be inaccurate just due to my system possibly using a bit less RAM than your laptop due to the fact that I run a WM rather than Mint’s default DE’s

Yes it does, but its integration of Vulkan is currently not the best in optimization
VKDoom has improvements, I can recall plans to merge GZDoom with VKDoom to get that improved performance, though OpenGL will also be axed too from what I've read. Well considering GZDoom has been making steps to focus more on modern hardware, that's to be expected

it uses llvm pipe for rendering
so it is very slow

The native software-rendered camera movement for mouselook makes me sick and I just have to live with that, plus be situated with platforming with jumps like that with the weird mouselook

Titan Manon from master levels for doom 2 is genuinely one of the worst levels in the series
It's a tiny map with a par time of 30 minutes
The entire map is just finding random obscure secrets until you can get to the exit
I think that map is the hardest in the entire game
i hate it
ive died more on e4m2 then all of the boss fights ive done so far
None of the bosses are particularly difficult
theyre more tedious than anything
Spider mastermind might be difficult without the BFG but with it the final boss of the original game just goes down in three shots
spider mastermind is easy once you kinda figure out how its shooting works

And then master levels is 20 levels that all require pistol start
Final doom is canon but completely skipable but I don't think master levels is canon
The MLs are just some rando maps that ID licensed decades ago. ID didn't make them and they're pretty low quality. There have been far better maps made in the decades since -- there were far better maps even then. I don't necessarily recommend the MLs as they can give people a sour taste that misrepresents the tremendous variety and quality in other custom content levels
Final doom is theoretically similar as ID didn't make the levels, but the quality, particularly of Plutonia, is much higher, if still a "product of the time"
Yeah I can recommend plutonia, it is very fun

The goal is to give a lil foresight into the maps and show a tense experience(take early damage, trudge on slowly) and then fail the level so it's up to you to find the ending yourself. It's not a skill issue. It is the intent of the demos to look that way

I think you can just copy the wads on a cd and the copy the wads from the cd to the doom95 folder. I'm not familiar with Doom95, I play Doom in DOS.

Using ZDL and a fanmade port, it's much faster to load up and swap games without sitting through bethesda logos and unneeded online stuff than official ports. Though ZDL won't launch doom3. I don't know how much more doom 3 I'll play though
