The latter similarly starts off innocent but as Doomguy’s dementia worsens, each map progressively becomes a jumbled nightmare.
It shows that you can still do horror without even involving ghosts let alone jump scares. Although for My House, I still expected one to do so :p

people usually don't bother with 100% item pickups with how tedious it can be
You don't have to get 100% items to be considered as 100%ing the map. The item count is ignored by speedrunners and players alike
Added with the fact that not all items are obtainable under certain conditions, i.e. you can’t grab medikits when your health is 100.
Same thing with ammo items.
Which is also probably why item doesn’t count towards UV Max.

It doubles the enemy roster and adds the all important ssg which makes a much bigger difference than might appear at first. There's a reason the the vast majority of custom maps are made for doom 2

I dont know where to ask this but ive been trying to extract the wolf3d menu font which is BigFont.fon2 to a TTF font is that possible. all i been able to get is to extract it as a either a jpg file or the orginal file type which is fon2.
The only tool i have found to extract it with is SLADE.
Ps i know this is not a wolfenstein3d discord but there is not a good wolf3d discord server and secondly doom also uses this filetype.

Most fun and enjoyable map to play in Cosmogenesis in my opinion.
Overall insanely fun map, most of this route was from Ancalagon, in the past days i never went to the site where Mancubi and Revenants were coming from to infight and lure the Cybers over to them so i think i lost way more attempts than i should have not doing that strategy.

I'm finally getting around to fully playthrus of the unity versions and i keep finding myself raging at the glitches. the number of times I've seen a demon get stuck on geometry, the number of times I've reloaded into a wall, plz help i can't take it

windows still supports fon though, some bundled fonts are in that format like FixedSys
well, I had the urge to get into some slaughter maps and went back to sunder map 16. holy hell I was in for a treat (I only played up to 1/4 of the map and I'm pretty much in the middle now)
I dunno how or why gazebo thought it was a good idea to send hordes of revenants, viles, spiderdemons and so on to the player's face and no bfg. it's hard for the sake of being hard.
lucky for me I'm in continuous play and I have the bfg for these eventualities, otherwise it would become way too hard and too grindy

UV+ is just UV difficulty with fast monsters and multiplayer items the way I understand it

Use the og slaughter map (go 2 it). You get all weapons and face all monsters but not in an overwhelming way like most modern slaughter wads

Hey, so I'm really interested in coop games, though I don't play much multiplayer doom and thus am not too familiar with teh server settings
I'd love to play coop doom with other doods in particularly hard maps
I notice that all weapon pickups are randomized and that when you pick a weapon up, it stays for the other player to also pick it up. How do I remove the randomization and not get the bfg in the first level itself, and how do I make it so we have to share stuff too? It's really not much of a challenge when every room is an armory

I doubt they would change the autoaim code from PrBoom+, since it's supposed to be demo-compatible.
I've been dabbling with doomseeker and doom explorer for a few days, and from what I've gathered they're pretty similar to eachother. Doom explorer multiplayer has the capability to show servers for almost every multiayer port of doom (ZDaemon, Zandronum, Doomsday, and I can't remember the other atm), while Doomseeker is ONLY Zandronum servers.
Doom explorer also had the single player setup, unlike doomseeker (unless I just haven't found it lol). I know you can put more ports of doom in the single player options, i.e. GZDoom, Chocolate Doom, etc.
That all being said, I do think doom explorer has a more newbie friendly ui and just more comfortable feeling of operation in general; but it's all down to personal preferences of course.

The main problem with hitscan enemies is that their range is longer than your autoaim range.
They’re trained snipers.
It's funny how they still struggle with vertical autoaim. They will aim for you but shoot a cacodemon floating way above you because it's in front of you.

3d0 and jaguar has a few unique levels, and others were changed to fit the hardware. 32x just sucks. ps1 was a combo of 1&2 with new music and enemy/item layouts and new visuals

Depends on how much space you got, but generally just circle strafing works.
You have to painchance them and escape/get to cover if you don't have space, and if you can't escape/don't have cover then you just straight up have to painchance them until they die.
Chaingun or plasma rifle should stun them often enough
If you are in a really bad spot without them, you could try using one enemy to block other enemies projectiles and use the ssg to stun the one you are using for cover
sometimes you can come up with a strafing pattern specific to an encounter that lets you evade most shots

DOOM On PS1 is Goofy
It's sad that hardly anyone plays any of the Doom games online. Even one of my nephews thinks Doom is boring (it's not). Honestly I put the blame on Fortnite, Warzone, Minecraft (despite not being a bad game), and Roblox. Those are the only four games people play nowadays.

I think it is more popular than Doom because classic Doom can be very archaic and difficult to learn to play.
Fortnite has collaborations, easy gameplay (leaving aside the construction), Warzone is played more since it feels like the usual Cod but in battle royale (the same with fortnite)
Minecraft and roblox are, well, games for kids
There are people who just don't go with the gore and the hellish atmosphere
My favorite game is Terraria, which think of it as Minecraft but in 2D, but note it’s not “2D Minecraft” as people say that kinda pisses me off

Yeah, retro games are very hard to get into because of that, which is why many re-releases of them have rewind and save/load state features.
gameplay-wise doom is streamlined and possibly the best first fps game
doom's barrier to entry comes from the technical side like setting up a source port, but the unity port exists so 🤷

I remember when I first tried doom 1 on the unity port on console I thought it was boring lol. I went back again later and gave it another try, and something stuck then. Kinda crazy that I went from thinking it's boring to being obsessed with the game, but I'm glad I did. I think there is joy in the fluid simplicity and the monster balance is pretty nice.

I can't remember why exactly I found it boring, but I'm guessing lack of difficulty was one of the reasons why. I probably also was not amused at how there weren't many enemy types at the start. I do remember that I didn't like not being able to look up or down, which funny enough is something I prefer now for the vanilla feel.

I prefer it. Hell, I’ve loaded into gzdoom for many wads
there's a reason GZDoom is basically the default sourceport for most people getting into Doom
only the people who want a more classic or purist experience go into the other more vanilla compatible source ports, and even if someone starts out with just those, they might just get back into GZDoom because of mods later
which is why my main sourceports are GZDoom and DSDA
man all those early early fan revisions of doom that added mouselook and weird lighting effects and whatnot

I'm nearly at the end of tnt of almost three decades of trying lol and after playing most of the maps my opinion hasn't changed at all. the whole campaign is just wildly dull at best. worst offical doom campaign imo

Agreed. TNT isn't worth the trouble... but as a completionist, I played it and cleared it in UV Max. So I can say it truly sucks and the amount of monsters is asinine and a lot of them are low tier enemies which is just annoying
I think TNT has its own charm and is worth playing (but not replaying). TNT-influenced wads do TNT better than TNT.
TNT is definitely an acquired taste for most, its not bad and i would say the highlight maps of TNT are one of the best maps out of all the iwads but also the lows being one of the lowest of the iwads
I would still highly recommend playing TNT before playing Plutonia. Because playing Plutonia right after doom 2 isnt something i wouldnt recommend difficulty wise
I've just finished the Master Levels yesterday and I cannot fathom how TNT could possibly be worse than that
I had to use video guides to figure out what to do next in several maps, with completely ridiculously hidden keys and switches
some of the maps were really cool tho, I enjoyed Black Tower the most

hi doom buddies! i've been wanting to play doom for a while, so since there's gonna be a steam promotion on halloween, i decided to try to buy doom 1 and 2, so, i've been wondering if i should download gzdoom now (since it's free), or buy the original ones first? i'm kinda new to doom so i don't have that much information about it, i just think it's cool.
GZDoom is a source port to play mods on
Source ports are (mostly) fan-made engine modifications in order to run the Doom 1 or 2 files, called “WADs”
You need to have a WAD in order to run it on a source port
most are fan-made engine modifications to be specific
It is recommended that you get PrBoom+ to have the best experience for Doom 1 and 2, or play the Bethesda source port for efficiency if you want once you get the games (the first option when you click play on Doom 1 or 2)
they add features such as proper 3d rendering, qol, shader support, mod support, etc.
though honestly they're so far removed that a good portion can be considered fan-made engines but yadda yadda
I decided to skip over the Master Levels
no amount of money or pressure could make me want to play them
so far if I had to rank my experience with Doom games I would rate it like this: TNT Evilution < The Plutonia Experiment < Doom II < Doom 1993
@finite crag just to let you know from what I know about source ports:
- PrBoom+ is used for playing vanilla and/or with custom maps that don’t require mods
- GZDoom is mostly for playing modded and modding
- Zandronum can also be used like GZDoom, but also is used for multiplayer purposes as well. Zandro has other features packed in such as colored lighting
There is definitely some notable ones I’m forgetting, but that’s the gist of it

I do believe I'd take DSDA over PrBoom+, but given that DSDA is just a fork project of PrBoom+ they might actually be pretty much equal

Buying Doom 1 and 2 gives you files for the games in order to make them run on source ports
There are many source ports and they all are good and valid for playing Doom
My ports of choice are DSDA and GZDoom for mods
You can just play the modern official ports that you buy on Steam/GoG too
I'm not a fan of the Unity port personally
it feels too different from the original experience imo
And if you want to play vanilla:
- PrBoom+ for the best experience imo
- Bethesda port (first option after clicking play) for efficiency if you want

with a good PC of course, since performance is noticeable
gzdoom fixes up small bugs and inconsistencies and that makes a lot of glitches impossible
what dwars meant is that the core engine is different enough that it's impossible for it to fully replicate vanilla like other ports
are psx doom's monster stats the exact same to the doom 64 ones

There is a Launcher you might have heard about - ZDL. It is a hub for multiple Doom WADS/Mods, allowing users to select without copying/pasting into different folders.

been playing through Auger;Zenith megawad with some mods, and I have to say, I absolutely recommend the experience.. even if I have many choice words to say about the monster pack I'm running, and how it makes things way harder than they need to be, but I'm still having a ton of fun
I'm running the Vesper weapons pack, very fitting for a Cyberpunk themed wad
and then the SunDamageOmen enemies pack, highlights of which I must say are the extremely LOUD and terrifyingly high DPS chaingunners, and the Revenants with extra fast missiles that also have AoE damage explosions now. Be VERY VERY careful opening monster closets with these, I don't know if I would recommend a Plutonia playthrough with them, unless you're a masochist

My cousin's Pentium PC with Windows 98, I guess. Doom was already considered old by then, compared to shiny new games like Quake 3, Unreal Tournament and Soldier of Fortune, so I thought it was boring at the time. It wasn't until much later that I played it again on GZDoom for the fan-made maps, some time in mid-2010s.
I remember I found the fact that the item sprites are always facing you to be hilarious.

Actually I just looked it up, and the way they did it is they made there be a sector that's the height of the bridge, and then they set the linedefs of it to reference that sector for both sides of each line making the game bug out and make the sector invisible

i did not think id see the day where i can't easily zoom through episode 1 but having to learn keyboard and mouse since i do not have a working controller... has done that
i can definitely aim faster but i dont think i'll ever get used to having to lift the mouse mid turn (even on higher sensitity levels though i need to be careful of how high i set it because too high is nausiating and disorienting.) then there's the fact that im a lefty so my mapping set up is atleast to me quite strange

I've tried keyboard and i thought It was my salvation movement felt so natural and my hands could coordinate properly and I was wheeling my mappings to being more like a controller until i hit a road block
I wanted to have primary and secondary fire on the shift keys so I could fire whilst not taking my fingers off of movement and turning but doom does not let you nap then independently as left end right shift they're both treated as just shift

but I am kinda surprised Crispy Doom actually converted the color of the blood puddle over to a colorized version for Cacos and Hell Knights/Barons of Hell
expected it to only convert the blood splatter and not the puddle I put into it

I, too, have played Dark Dome from Alien Vendetta
same. it's my favorite track in all of Doom
Transistor Fist is also good (because it references Kitchen Ace) but it simply doesn't hit as hard if you haven't listened to Kitchen Ace beforehand

and then before launching the doom exe, simply run novert.com before running doom2.exe
