My muscle memory is so engrained in having consistent damage and FA was so inconsistent in it's ability to finish off enemies, even after PB Rocket SSGs into them beforehand, it woulda been better to just do another SSG.

I would create another quick swap esque mechanic / technique that allows you to do immense damage with rapid fire weapons too
For one example classic doom weapon balance and purpose is near perfection. The plasma has no use other than with ghosts. At least 2016 had its stun function rbur even then it was losing its purpose. Many weapons depend on single shot swaps which is fine but I'm not really a fan of a pb style play like what most great runs show off
Even in 2016 I used stupid shit like h rounds instead of rockets
But they were still viable
Eternal is dependent on quickswapping to the point where on the highest difficulty it starts to want you to only use the strongest damage weapons
Which in this case are just the single shot weapons
However the master levels are what truly show this because they really rely on using only those weapons

Given that I beat campaign on NM and TAG on HMP, Horde mode burning through my pile of extra lives and finishing me off on HMP should be a difficulty indicator
I wouldn't say Horde is the hardest content, but I do think people sleep on its difficulty at times. That said I think the difficulty sometimes comes from trying to maximize onslaught or getting gold bounties (especially when it's Marauders as bounty demons).
For just generally completing it, it's got a few hard encounters but the average difficulty of each level isn't that high I think
I'd say TN ML is actually harder than WS because of the stupid archie and coin room since it forces you to save super weapons in order to get past those rooms without getting an aneurysm
Every arena in WS ML can be beaten with proper use of the hammer in 1 or 2 tries

That said, I don't think TN is that hard overall, it's just long. I think the sewer fight is harder than coin and Archie rooms, with or without supers.

ok so i feel like i have a reason to use basically every weapon in the game with the exception of a couple - plasma rifle and chain gun. every other one i feel like can be used with weapon swapping or, in the case of the combat shotgun, for common ememy weaknesses (specifically cacodenons). anyone else feel this way?

Most high level players use keybinds for weapon swapping. Generally the most important weapons close to movement keys to have them close by, etc.
Also for damage, Mobile Turret/Micro Missiles do get beat out by PB by a long shot (pun intended), however Energy Shield itself is S tier even without Shield Raze bug.

fyi, pb combos on caco's are a bit better then grenade in the mouth beccause it's faster. and the chaingun is the shield which blocks pretty much all damage
also punchswaps with ballista is highly effective for caco's
mobile turret is just shit and has a highly niche use for pos marauders

IoS telegraphs his attacks and you have infinite armour, HP, ammo, and a lot of terrain to hide and move about. He's definitely easier than gladiator, which is essentially a reaction speed check.

@tardy crescent Marauders are one of the easiest enemies in the game, and I believe their design inherently goes against the design of Doom Eternal anyways. An enemy that has a CC that completely eliminates momentum is unfun as is (cc would be ok if it wasn't so ridiculous), and the enemy itself requires you to slow down and be reactive without any proactivity from the player, whereas every other enemy allows you to be proactive in some form or another (except blood Maykrs, who at least allow you to keep moving since the trade off for them being reactive enemies is they get one shot)
get a steam gift card, so unless your steam has parental shit then itāll be easy
getting fucked for knowing the parry timing too well is such a good design decision 
Also bloodmakyrs are something you have to notice in the background, marauders are something you have to focus on as the headstar
The only "proactive" thing a player can do is kill them faster/with less parries (3 cycle vs 2 cycle vs 1 cycle). Which while neat, it still inherently requires you to wait for THEM to do something first and for you to stop moving fast in an arena.
Marauders are like that one boss that's being used as a late game normal enemy
Even if Marauders weren't buggy (which they have been since launch, and will continue to be forever at this point) I'd still stand by their design is just bad for Doom Eternal. And it's not because "they're hard" because they're not. They're just boring and antithetical to the gameplay
I feel like a good way to make Marauders better is to just make it so after the first time you stun them, their shield is destroyed and they can't use it anymore.
-Enemy is basically invincible unless you stun him at the green light
-Once you do, shield is broken, making him a more "normal" enemy; shoot him whenever, still slings axes at you and uses his SSG, spawns the dog more to compensate.
There you go, EZPZ, still makes him a threat especially when he first spawns, but now you are rewarded for properly stunning him by breaking his stupid fucking shield and making him more vulnerable.
I could see this being a neat change. I still think just letting you "dodge" their attacks but still able to attack them, albeit with maybe damage resistance, would allow plates to stay mobile and attack them, while still rewarding players who focus on them and Parry them.
But in either case, it rewards the player/adds some depth.
Yeah definitely. If this change were made you'd have to give them more health; IIRC Marauders have the least health of any superheavy since you're only meant to be able to attack them in short bursts.
I could see the de-shielded Marauder having more health and generally being more aggressive to compensate for the lack of shield. Would be a better way to balance him I think.

Have you ever watched high end gameplay where players use bunny hops, meathook flings, ballista boosts, meathook -> PB restacks, etc to keep moving in a fight? High end players, especially in modded content, stay mobile and ESPECIALLY try to stay in the air (typically, staying high in the air is the safest as it neuters half the enemy AI in this game).
Marauders as designed require you to NOT keep your momentum as they need to catch up to you to do a green flash, and you of course can't be in the air. So yes, you do need to slow down. Unless you're already slow at the game which I guess it's hard to notice this sort of issue then

Some players legitimately are just faster/more mobile, and at this point there's a huge skill gap between players that some will legitimately never notice some of this stuff.
Obviously speedrunners are the typical ones but there's a lot of players who are as good that don't Speedrun the game, just play well. It's a matter of experience and knowledge from 10s of thousands of collective hours.
Imo it's enough to just learn the mobility techniques. Faster isn't really a requirement.
Like I'm super slow, I quick swap barely faster than just firing the weapon again, and even I notice how the marauder slows you down

Stuff like knowing that meathook resets your jump/double jump inherently changes how you can approach arenas/encounters alone.
And as you said, it's more the maneuverability than the speed that it adds. I usually tell people that learning the movement is a better way to get through UN than learning quick swaps or optimal kill combos, etc

The problem is they inherently discourage mobility, which is probably the single biggest part of Eternal's gameplay it emphasizes.
Eternal places mobility at a higher priority than almost anything else in the gameplay loop.
With the Marauder you are encouraged to stand still and let him come to you, which is not only lame but directly detrimental to you in situations where the Marauder is accompanied by other heavy enemies.

and because of them being triggered by enemy fire, you are discouraged to fight the marauder together with other enemies too. and rather to first focus on everything else and then on the marauder

Not in my experience. In my experience if I stand still he will come to me and attack so I can stun him. If I approach him, he punishes me by either shielding or shotgunning me.
You have to have him come to you. He virtually never attacks with the green light when you approach him. The game is encouraging you to be passive and defensive, which is in direct contradiction with the Slayer's play-style of mobility and aggression. TAG1 and 2's enemies did a better job of highlighting this idea, like the Armored Baron and the Blood Maykr, because their weakpoints weren't dependent on distance and passive play.

The Marauder is the only enemy in the game that blatantly discourages approaching him from any angle, in any way. He is intended to have you be passive and let him come to you.

These are still very, very specific ways to attack him lol, and the best parts of Eternal are where it encourages you to attack enemies however you wish.

I don't disagree that the Marauder reinforces this type of gameplay. But I also think he's the only one that... I'd say focuses solely on the weapon combos/quick swaps. Other enemies do get easier with quick swaps, but theres other ways to get better at fighting enemies in the game. Mono already mentioned approaching Mancubi from the air, there's also general weaknesses such as single Dblade against Carcasses, hitting weakpoints, etc.
Marauder only has one (and I hate using the I word) intended approach. Most of the other approaches are buggy interactions that aren't necessarily intuitive to players learning the mechanics of the game (i.e. feet Ballista and lock-on in the air are only useful against Marauder, so it's not reinforcing gameplay against other enemies/situation).
I guess he sort of reinforces generic dash movement too, you do have to keep him at a "mid-short distance". I just think that's sort of the bare bones movement, and there's no room for growth against Marauders in that regard. Like I kind of understand Marauders purpose.at a basic level in the design of the game, but I feel like as players get better, he lacks depth that the other demons have.

there is alot more fps games than that

yeah, now. but back when BR games where the thing most big studios that can quickly pump out a game HAD to include a BR gamemode
also just fornite dominating most of gaming in that lil period (relative to the rest) which propelled epics in the industry
Honestly that's just the internet. Personally I think BR games are fine, and even if I didn't people can like what they like. 
fortnite feels kinda hard to get in to
at any moment a kid who goes to school less than you do can just start building crazy structures on you and send you back to lobby
And first slayer door done with 0 death.
when i played FN i didnt really like it, but people shit on it too much
