My current situation with UN is that after multiple attempts I managed to scathe past Hell on Earth, got to the Fortress of Doom, and logged off, turns out it doesn’t effing save so my progress got wiped
I always hated UN
No offense to the people who love it but I just genuinely suck at the game

Bungie Syndrome

This is more of a thing between my friends, since it's a really dumb and shallow way to describe it, but what I call Bungie Syndrome is essentially the whole, "from the makers of" thing
We see a product from or involving people who made or helped make something great, only to realize that it was something born of circumstance and teamwork rather than one person or a particular small group
Bungie made many great games before and during their tenure with Microsoft, and once they split from them, they kinda went down the drain almost completely
Destiny isn’t bad though
Destiny's launch was a disaster, Destiny 2 has ups and downs, and Marathon is... odd

The Callisto Protocol is a huge example, Mighty No. 9 more so, and, while it isn't the same in every way, Defect has the same sort of issue where it just isn't what we wanted or expected

I think that the Prodeus devs worked on DOOM, and that game is pretty great

ID Software has always been revolutionizing the FPS genre and setting the standard
Eternal, for all its differences, FEELS like Doom to me

Guys I have to choose a rune which one should I get
depends on ur playstyle
i personally prefer
- Air control (its paramount and makes the game more fun honestly)
- Higher speed glory kills (to keep the pace up)
- Speed boost after glory kill (i like my speed)
while i believe 1 is paramount, especially for newer players, 2 and 3 are where you vary. The faster equipment recharge rune is really, really good for survivability for example. Or longer glory kill duration so your enemies don't get back up if u get distracted/overwhelmed before u can glory kill
longer glory kill range ig can help? But since a lot of optimal play especially with the ssg is close range you won't find yourself needing a longer reach for it
the order I've had most success with is air control, then dazed and confused, then blood fueled
and once you get your equipment going, then you can switch one of those to equipment fiend
I'm a bit iffy on playing doom eternal again because I got stuck on level 11 because there are just too many enemies to kill at once with the mechanics I had to do to kill them in the first place.
After glory kill speed boost, longer stagger, further glory kill range
Air control and equipment fiend are the two best, third one just do what you like

the extra speed from blood fueled is just very good, letting you get out of a situation faster
yeah but the thing is that you're not running all that much in eternal
so the time you're benefiting from it is not that big

and most glory kills are on the ground unless you glory kill a cacodemon or pain elemental
dashes, meathook, and ballista boosting
if you single dash with normal run speed, it's as fast as blood fueled run speed

yeah but still, blood fueled still allows you to get out of a situation faster, its still better than most other glory kill related runes
the most critical moment of getting away is the start, where you have 300ms (500 if you're on itytd or hmp) of iframes, which is enough to complete an entire dash, you can also just pull up the chaingun shield on the first frame aftwr a gk
and if you instead use savagery, enemies will have much less of a chance to gang up on you
I've never used blood fueled once
i tried it once and didn't like it
so combining this with a dash as soon as possible after a gk is just much better than just running quickly
out of the 4 gk-related runes, i'd put it second last
- dazed and confused
- savagery
- blood fueled
- seek and destroy
blood fueled does have the bonus of working with chainsawing too though, which is nice

it also allows you to do something else before glory killing, have a greater chance of there being an available glory kill, and you can more easily use enemies to take cover or use as platforms
i see the situations in 2016, but not in eternal

because better air control allows for more free movement allowing for better dodging and better positioning and overall more enjoyable movement
thing is with doom eternal is that 90% of the time you will be in the air
so why would you want your air movement to be limited
any tips to be overall good
more freedom, true, but that freedom also allows you to ignore mistakes (too little/too much momentum, going in the wrong direction, etc), and ac only helps with dodging via redirecting momentum more easily, but does that really make movement better, or just easier?
you can have just as good positioning without ac, it's just harder and requires more awareness
most of the things about air control just makes the game easier not better, just like a run should
asking more times won't get more responses
ac is super good, easily the best rune, but i just think it should still be a rune
there are tons of tips, i can just share some general ones which often apply, but i can also give you some more specific tips if you want to share a gameplay clip

use your movement tools! you should always be dashing, even if it's without a clear purpose, this will allow you to dodge more attacks and naturally move around in the arena. you should however do something called single dashing, which is when you only use the first dash. this is so you can save the second dash for when you really need it (e.g. to get somewhere, get away, redirect momentum).
you also can't use the meathook too much. it's super good to restack with if you have the mastery. but its main function is getting into the air, this is done by jumping to detach from the meathook, and after that you will always have exactly one more jump to spend freely. you can combine this with the restacking abilities of it: meathook a demon->jump to detach->shoot (you have to shoot after jumping). you can also use it to get to a demon, but that's more auxiliary
also make sure to use the environmental movement options (monkey bars and jump pads), as well as your double jumps. -
be in control! not being in control comes from a few things: tunnel visioning, bad routing, lack of awareness.
tunnel visioning is when you focus on a single enemy/a group of enemies so much that you take unnecessary damage or put yourself in a bad situation. you want to cycle between demons in a sense, never staying around one for long, it's okay to not fully kill a demon! shoot one for a bit, then move on and restack, and go to the next demon. also many stay in one area while technically moving, but staying in a very limited space is also tunnel visioning.
when you route your movement paths, you want to make sure you don't go into tight areas, places where you can get surrounded or move too straight/back and forward.
you also want to be aware of the battle, see what's around you and locate the highest threats, then put the most focus on killing them (without tunnel visioning!)

use all your tools. you want to use your entire/close to your entire arsenal to kill enemies, almost everything has a unique utility! and make sure to constantly flame belch, literally as soon as it's off cooldown, even if you just hit one enemy. ice grenades you don't have to spam, but don't hold on too long, same for frag grenades.

keep your ammo high. you want to spend ammo roughly uniformly, and chainsaw when you're at about half ammo for all ammo types.
these are the fundamentals, but if you get good enough at them, you can beat any campaign or master level on ultra nightmare easily

i mean thats just kinda artificially making it more challenging
like if you make moving more tedious then yeah its harder and having an option to make it less tedious technically makes it easier
like ac makes movement better and by technicality easier
also things to take into consideration is that air control is just a really good qol to make movement feel way better aswell
without ac movement can feel very unresponsive
which is not something you want in a movement shooter
especially not one where you are always in the air

the thing you're losing out on without ac is being able to redirect your momentum at any time and accelerate to base walking speed in the air at any time
but you can redirect momentum instantly with the meathook, or by having a more grounded approach and utilizing more dashes
it takes more responsibility to play without ac because of that, but the unresponsiveness can be jarring for sure
blood fueled seems to help if u prefer playing more grounded doe

because then dashing is very important, which bf doesn't affect, and you'll often meathook or ballista boost, and bf only marginally affects the latter

on the official mod portal i use faster chainsaw by evan, because the chainsaw savagery mod doesn't speed up all chainsaw animations by 2x😤
i think only mecha zombies are sped up 2x with that mod
maybe ill just use dazed and confused now, the occasional "oh he's back bc i got slightly distracted fuck" is annoying
and 2x is how much savagery normally affects every glory kill

almost as fast as 3 regular ballista punch cancels (measured from the moment you fire to when you're back to the dblade), and it gives you fast destroyer blade..
this is so relatable though😭 i don't really punch cancel the ballista at all anymore, but if i do, it's just for the pain elementals lmaoo

that first big for for the first half of the shield in that mission was the single hardest thing in the entire game for me

the possesed pain elemental lives in my nightmares, no matter how good i get it's just always out of reach
the possesed marauder is actually just legitimately broken and buggy
buff totem marauder is where its at baby
idk man there were only 2 fights in the game that really had me stuck for a long time before i could get past them when i finally went through on nightmare and that was the first big fight on the way back after destroying the complex in the first TAG1 mission and the other was the one i just mentioned in blood swamps
everything else i was able to get through without dying or only having to retry a few times
Possesed demons become way more tolerable if you have the microwave beam on standby to halt their movement
microwave beam+rocket combo goes hard (I don't use lob)
i even had trouble getting to the possessed baron (?) part of the blood swamps fight
idk that arena is just so obnoxious with how narrow and constricting it is
pb->sticky/stickies->ballista is goated for possessed enemies if you don't use lob imo

it's like a mino rocket but travels much faster so you don't really miss
it's cheap so you can use a lot of them, deals decent damage, travels fast, and does splash
so combining them with pb and ballista is good damage
altho if you don't quickswap them with FSE, the combo is mid
I feel like all the gk runes are good and usable, some are definitely better than others but I think which ones are better is determined by how you play, but generally savagery and dazed and confused are the best. I used to use blood fueled for a while but since I don’t gk as often I use savagery now
After updating to dlss 4.5 the render preset changed from F to L and the fps sometimes drops below 100 now: so instead of F to pay respects, I'm taking the L now.

how did you modswap so fast? Was pulling out the heavy cannon to cancel out the modswap animation?
i did it in a pretty complex way by combining Silent BATS and Wack Swapping (for reasons which would allow me to set up fast destroyer blade), which i'd be happy to get into if you want
but there are easier methods of completely avoiding the mod swap animation, which i can also get into!

I'm not old enough to say DOOM is my first entry but I'm enjoying DOOM Eternal
If I had to pick one criticism for Ancient Gods 2-I only have 1-it's that I kinda feel like humanity and ARC should've participated in the Battle of Hell, it'd make the most sense narratively, that for all their worship of Doomguy, they follow him into the ultimate battle, and considering how Earth was lost one time too many in the entire franchise, I think this would be the perfect way to progress, humanity finally taking its own stand against the horde
the Sentinels are cool, but I think the ARC's presence would've been better
Them teaming up together woulda been cool as well

it makes the most sense from a narrative standpoint, especially now more than ever, with Doom Slayer being mythologized by mankind, at some point they would be bold enough to face Hell directly, I feel like before Operation Hellbreaker, Hayden would've had plans for that

Sentinels seem to be, or are implied to be actually more competent against demons than humans
considering they required a civil war to be defeated, while humans just got fucked by demons on Earth
like a Sentinel soldier is super trained to be an elite warrior, also in close quarters much better than let's say a human soldier. Human soldiers hold onto their modless plasma rifles like they lives depend on it
there's a few factors, namely Doomguy had arrived to the Sentinels before the demons, they would have had even a little bit of preparation, humanity between 2016 and Eternal did not have Doomguy, while you can argue that the average Sentinel is stronger than the average human, it's also down to a complete difference in doctrine as well as environment
i think humans legitimately forget that with demons, its not just good to shoot, but also be a animal in close quarters once the demon approaches
doctrine and environment definitely help the Sentinels no doubt
I'm not denying the Sentinels would have been cooked in Taras Nabad had it not been for the Slayer
but doctrine and environment just had them more built for demon war
Sentinels are straight up trained as knights, they are hands down superior with wide ranges of melee weapons, while they did create guns, it's obvious they managed to hold that focus on melee
unlike humans which hide behind guns and melee training is minimal compared to Sentinels knight esque training

additionally, Argent D'Nur has a whole range of different lifeforms than Earth, from things like dragons, to giants, and the Wraiths
im pretty sure in Immora the humans ideally shouldn't have sent ground forces, but they would totally have been useful with cruisers, aircraft and giant mechs
so the argument can be made that Sentinels had much better experience with what humans would deem unnatural

i think what genuinely fucks civilizations is not just demons by themselves, but the nature of surprise attacks, little prep time and demonic influence making the enemies ranks falter
the Codexes of TDA and Eternal don't seem to speak of any superweapons, but, once again, this is most likely due to a difference in doctrine from humanity

its clearly stated in the first dark ages level that the outer shield would have held if it wasn't for traitor's who fell into hell's influence
Sentinels are very much in the camp of frontline warfare, the concept of something like an orbital laser or a nuclear missile most likely falls under the realm of dishonor and therefore illegal, or, they just literally never thought of it

the real question ofc is if demons would win just by sheer numbers, which seems unlikely considering how much hell influences their victim's to give way for the demons
demons are very good at manipulation, think of it like Frieren, the demons learn our languages so they can use it against us
its unspoken but if demons didn't manipulate and just tried to charge in headfirst, they wouldn't win
based on 2016 and Eternal, a lot of what demons relied on was savagery and numbers, most of them don't think tactically, that's for someone like a demon general or royalty to think of
heres the thing though
they already win by numbers bc the enemy has been crippled by more smarter, manipulative demons
or just the Makyrs, like Eternal
we haven't actually seen many fights in modern doom where the good guys aren't internally compromised by hell's influence
The Makyrs themselves do not direct the demons, that much is evident, it’s most likely the Deags were responsible for that
just a single manipulation of some interns working at the shield gates and bam, the hoards charge in

You also have to factor in that the mere presence of demons starts to affect things, zombies and Gore Nests
it isn't a coincidence that there's so many cultists you have to kill in Dark Ages, that's how the demons gained the advantage
its simple really, the traitor cultists open the floodgates and then the demon numbers are super hard to counter
The dimensional barrier was the only thing really holding back the demons in TDA, once it fell, the demons were free to go wherever
but if the traitors weren't there, which they usually are, the demons have a much harder time getting through human/sentinel tech
the traitors themselves are created by hell's influence ofc
It’s possible that the cultist rituals featured in later missions are much like the ritual the priests used to lead Doomguy back to the mortal realm
In 2016 it was Spider Mastermind manipulating Olivia so she would manipulate others, in Eternal it was Khan manipulating the Deags to manipulate Earths people, and in Dark Ages it was Ashrak with varying levels of influence to Kreed and Sentinel's
Oh the Khan Makyr wasn’t manipulating the Deags, they straight up were warped by Hell
this manipulation of individuals basically breaks the beehive of demons, by then victory is almost certain

From what it sounds like when reading the cultist page of TDA’s codex, it almost sounds less like the demons, and more like Hell itself manipulates mortals, Azrhak and the Spider Mastermind just use that influence on specific people

silent BATS is a combination of a mod swap cancel (MSC) and silent mod swap (SMS).
(skip if you know what MSC is)
You MSC by pressing the mod bind, and immediately the bind of another weapon, if done correctly you'll only swap to the other weapon. This does 2 things: it can cancel animations allowing you to swap faster, but it also transfers the bring-up speed of the first weapon to the second (BATS).
(skip if you know what SMS is)
SMS is done by first pressing the bind of another weapon, and immediately the mod bind, if done correctly you'll swap the the second weapon and the first weapon's mod will have changed. You have to fire the first weapon before swapping for this to work.
Silent BATS combines them so the inputs are: mod swap bind-> (other) weapon bind->mod swap bind. This makes the timing more tricky, but you get both the effects of a MSC and you don't have to fire the first weapon for its mod to change. However, silent BATS has a caveat where if the second weapon's equipped mod occupies the same row (up/down) as the mod the first weapon had before the "invisible" mod swap happened, you'll do a manual mod swap after having swapped to the second weapon. so if you have the ballista with arbalest out, and silent BATS to the rocket with remote det out, you'll perform a manual mod swap once you bring out the rocket. You can however avoid this by immediately swapping away from the second weapon.
(skip if you know what FSE is)
FSE (fast swap effect) makes weapons with a slow bring-up (rocket, combat shotgun, ballista) have a fast one, and it allows you to swap away immediately after firing, instead of having to wait a bit (weapons where there's a delay: ballista, rocket launcher, combat shotgun, super shotgun). The receivers of FSE is usually the rocket launcher and combat shotgun (ssg and ballista can receive too, but it's not really relevant), and there are a ton of applicators, one of them being the pb! this is why pb+rocket can be so fast.
Wack swaps are another way to apply FSE. You can perform them in 2 ways. The first is by firing a weapon with a delay for swapping away, immediately pressing the heavy cannon bind, and immediately after that press the bind of the receiver. If done fast you'll see the first weapon pop up again when the heavy cannon should appear, and then the third weapon will appear with FSE applied, if you're a bit slower you'll see the heavy cannon very briefly appear. But you have to be fast, otherwise it won't work. The second way to do it is by MSCing into the heavy cannon but immediately pressing the bind of another weapon after you pressed the heavy cannon bind. Here you will always see the heavy cannon pop up. There are many edge cases with this, such as some weapon mods, if you've BATSed a weapon, dry fire and there are many other (less useful) animations you can wack swap, but this is the main gist of it.
This is why I love to wack swap in tandem with silent BATS, because you'll always skip the aforementioned manual swap in the second weapon if you time the wack swap and silent BATS correctly. You can wack swap if you silent BATS into the heavy cannon, and use with the second method for wack swaps which involves a MSC, which silent BATS has.
The reason I did the combination of wack swap and silent BATS in the clip despite the ballista not receiving any FSE involves combo swap chains and how the fast destroyer blade tech works.

Doom Eternal cosmetics fumbled in certain areas
The cosmetics themselves are absolutely beautiful, amazing, fun, but, I feel like they could’ve been better
Most emotes are locked to whatever set they’re from, it woulda been a lot cooler if you could mix and match them, and it also coulda been super cool to enable an option for demon cosmetics in the campaign
Don’t forget most of The cosmetics are not complete sets either
The only other things I have to say on it is that I wish we could get the 2016 weapons as skins in game, and that they ported Doom 3 Marine in from Quake Champions
Oh yeah, and more classic weapon skins
I wish you didn't need to buy like 10 DLCs to have a "complete" set

in the early game you don't have as many tools to fall back on, so the fundamentals become even more important along with maximizing the utility of everything
so you'll want to always destroy weakpoints and heavily focus on your movement

I think ice bomb is the most effective against whiplashes
Rocket launcher does wonders to them
Aim for the ground around them tho, its easier than hitting them directly
you can easily kill a Mancubus by freezing them and using the auto shotgun weapon mod
and in the pit, never forget to use the unlimited supply of carcasses to instantly kill Mancubi or Whiplashes, just shoot them once and they'll fly in the appropriate direction to instantly kill the target

yeah i can clear most encounters either first try or with like 2 deaths
soooometimes i get stuck on one section until i figure out the stray

Can anyone gimme some advice for beating the campign in ultra nightmare
Don’t die? Kind of asked for that 
Start another save, and finish the level perfectly on nightmare. Once you think you are ready, start the ultra nightmare level
another thing how do i consistently change weapons cuz im using the numbers
5 supershotgun 6 balista 7 chaingun 4 rpg 3 plasma rifie 2 heavy cannon
You can use that, the mouse scroll wheel, or there is another key bind you can set to swap back and forth between the last weapon you had out
ik but like i wanna change weapons very fast and because the space of the keybinds i need to press are so far apart its so difficult to swap with the gun i want to use
like from heavy cannon to balista
or plasma to chaingun
Those are the only three options, the weapon wheel is not fast at all

It does suck to try and reach the 8 key with your pinky finger, I feel you on that

practice each level on nightmare, try to beat them without reaching low health once twice
thats what I did to get UN
by doing this you learn the levels and force yourself to form a comfortable strategy
they are not the 3 only options
you absolutely want to rebind your weapons, the default binds are really bad
bind your weapons close to yout movement keys, but don't have any anythinh on the key right above forward (W for most people)
go into settings and change binds
they are possible to use, but if you want to do any kind of quick swapping, it'll be worth it to change binds

yeah quickswapping is integral to the gameplay especially as the game gets harder
i think the game recommends you to do it in arc complex (level 7)
does anyone want to do battlemode achievements? I'm on PC
i wouldn't say quick swaps are integral, but it's still very good to rebind your weapons

They definitely improve your dps a ton but if you are good enough at mobility then you don't need to quickswap, yes it better but its not actually that important

I am having problems getting the mod launcher to start. Every time I boot up Eternal, it just goes straight to the game and skips the launcher. Any tips on how to get it working again?
Are the 2 add-ons for the game worth getting? I mean i just started playing again and I never realized there was 2 different parts to this game. Is it more story or just like bigger levels with enemies?

tag 1 is far better, but tag 2 is fun if u turn your brain off ig

playing a lot and actively trying to improve will help the most though
