You get used to it, don't feel discouraged playing controller, a lot of people have gotten just as good as PC players using controllers and there's clips of that on Youtube.
Just practice, learn what combinations of weapons you want to use, and know the arena's.
There's a reason time slows down, you can even use the weapon wheel to give you a moment to think, find the advantages. :)

I think the designers made the game the way they thought it should best be played with experience and reasonable logic.
So, I don't know, I just think we should be fair when we talk about the game that they made, we can disagree with things gameplay wise but criticism about how they made the literal code it runs off is nitpicking I feel.
That's just my take though.
Hundreds of people worked on it too, who planned and really worked hard to make these systems work together as well as they do.

pb+rocket can however be very fast, because the pb applies something called fse to the rocket launcher (fast swap effect), which makes it swap as fast as the heavy cannon (a fast swapping weapon)
same for pb+sticky bomb
pb+ssg is like ssg+ballista bust more dps, even though the ballista has a bit over double the damage of the heavy cannon, the heavy cannon's much faster swap speed makes up for it

I tried using mission select on my finished Im to young to die run without cheats. I changed the difficulty to nightmare and ran some missions to get a feel of how hard nightmare actually is and it isnt living up to standard
