After playing a lot more doom eternal I get why people don’t like the hammer

It doesn’t really feel tactical at all

I still use it a ton because why would you not

Also all the hazards in the arenas that slow you down makes moving around a lot less fun and most of the enemies introduced in tag 2 make the gameplay worse

The only new enemies I really like from tag in general is the spectre whiplash and the cursed prowler, the rest follow a deisgn philosophy that I don’t like

The real enemy of taras doible marauder encounter are those dam prowlers

But if you do you can use 2 shots and kill the archviles

I would recommend that you first play through regular nightmare, ideally more than once. That way you can really get a feel for what to expect, who's going to show up where and what tools will be best applicable. Managing your ammo and utilizing your chainsaw against heavies can turn the tide in your favor. Most required arachnotrons in hell on earth can be chainsawed if you know what you're doing

@night trench You can do a lot of things to dodge projectiles. Everyone goes about it differently, some people like to stay in the air as much as possible, people like me do a combination of both using the meathook and ballista boosting. Learning how to bunnyhop effectively is really helpful too. Base game enemies aren't too hard to dodge imo, it's the DLC ones that get kind of annoying. @austere bronze has a lot of tips as well. He knows more of the exact damage scales, I just play and have learned from trial and error and watching top players a ton and what they do.

Use enemies to redirect away from other enemies as well, like yeethooking off of cacodemons and things like that. Just basic stuff will help you a lot.

i'd say there are 2 parts to "dodging" enemy projectiles

1. not putting yourself in situations where there are loads of projectiles in the first place
2. moving fast, unpredictably and in 3 dimensions to make them miss

Practice ballista boosting, your meathook timing, like shooting one off, then another right when your current one is finished. Single dashes only, no double dashing because then you have a cooldown moment where you are slower. Like get the basics down before trying UN and you'll have a better time. For me, learning the combat loop stuff really helped because I kept playing Eternal like it was Classic Doom at first. Like I would see enemy, stop and focus on that one until it died, then move to the next one. Eternal doesn't work like that. You have to move around nonstop and not let yourself get outnumbered too quickly in tight spots.

If you find that when your meathook expires you're constantly falling into a group of enemies, then you aren't meathooking in the best areas where it will be efficient, you're actually just going to make it worse for youself. If that makes sense.
