Yesterday I finished doom 2016 for the first time. I can understand why some people prefer it over eternal. Doom 2016 is an amazing traditional fps, while eternal almost feels like a new genre.

Are there other sources of the game lore besides doom 2016 and eternal? Do the previous games connect with the story after the reboot? Surprisingly, the lore from these two games really caught my interest. Despite doom eternal having some cheap anime/kingdom hearts like plot twists.

i recommend to keep using lock-on mod on both, first try kill the dread knight. keep using combos, pb rocket, ballista ssg and stay away from them as much as possible, never push them unless you really wanna do a blood punch.

About the god discussion. It's clear that there are multiple gods in Doom Eternal (the friggin DLC is named "The Ancient Gods"). So even if Davoth is a god and the Slayer maybe a god too, it's not the same as, for example, Christianity's god. Doom's gods are not all powerful. There may be one god above them all, who has "think about it, and it's done"-like powers, but they never really talked about that.

This is why the term "god" in this kind of discussion is pointless.

God can mean multiple things;

1. The central figure of a religion (The Khan Maykr, Davoth, Aranea Imperatrix)
2. The creator of the universe (The Mysterious Voice, the Father)
3. The most all-powerful being (None of them - maybe the Father?)

Davoth is a "god" in the same way the Spider Mastermind was a "god." He is a revered and powerful, ancient figure in Hell scripture. But multiple traits about him defy the idea of him being the God - such as having been created by an even higher power, and not having exhibited omnipotence at any point in his life.

That's kind of the point with this particular line of thought in Doom. There is no God. Every time you are led to believe there is one, the situation is revealed to be more complicated than that. The Khan was worshipped as God by the Argenta, the Father is thought to be God in the base game and TAG1, TAG2 shows us actually it's Davoth, except even Davoth was made by a higher figure and wasn't all that powerful to begin with.

I prefer the term "Adam" when talking about Davoth. He's very analogous to Adam in the Bible - he was the "first being" in many ways, but was led to temptation and corruption, and banished for it - albeit by something he created rather than something that created him.

IIRC the Imperatrix was the center of Olivia's beliefs in 2016. If the later codex entries are to be believed, she saw all of the Dark Lords as almighty in their own way. The Spider Mastermind's Codex entry has a lot of reverence and posturing for the Imperatrix.

I personally would consider the Imperatrix a god. Just like how there were a bajillion gods in Greek myth. All of the Dark Lords were probably gods.

Not to be a nerd about it, but to me the bad guy is consistently organizations, religion, and oppression.

The three main antagonistic factions of Doom - Hell, the UAC, and Urdak - are all oppressive, violent factions that thrive off of violence, blood, slave labor, and worship. In one way or another.
