you can do it with 2016 as basefire damage is still decent, but not great. the plasma gun and chaingun in that game were really anemic and felt impactless

Only time he won't block attacks is when he goes for a melee swing. Generally it's easiest to keep your distance and wait for him to run up to you and do a swing, otherwise he tries to dance around and huck shit at you. There's a bajillion combos to one cycle em, I'd say look up marauder combos on youtube and pick your favorite
