falter windows aren't listed in any decl afaik (= hardcoded) but they're surprisingly easy to measure since the game's internal clock counts in microseconds and there's a command that tells you which microsecond a falter started and ended on

still a lot of manual work though

oh and falters of the same type inflicted on the same enemy still have slightly variable lengths so as of now it's impossible to get anything other than averages and vague min & max lengths

the frame data and such for player actions is waaay easier to figure out, but damn this is convoluted still

Well the reason the precision bolt is so crucial is because it has a weird transferring speed quirk that makes it the most optimal weapon to use alongside in combos

The only reason it has an edge over pb ballista is because ballista is a lot slower, the ssg fire rate is the same tho

but for real try out ssg pb. it shreds arachnotrons, mancs, tyrants, basically best for anything with huge hitboxes so all the pellets will land on the ssg. ssg pb ssg outright kills arachnotrons and mancs (if done correctly with the ssg pellets landing correctly)

or you can deadswap, which is just ssg swap to pb but dont shoot it switch back to ssg for gauranteed stagger states on mancs/arachnotrons

it's slightly complicated, there's a mechanic in the game that takes your total velocity you had before landing and turns it into a forward lurch when you land

bhopping is just leaving the ground right as that lurch happens, so you get to keep the speed from it

jumping the first frame you touch the ground gets you little to no speed, so the jump has to be slightly delayed

One thing I'll mention, if you downpatch to anything 2.0 or below, there's a lot of graphical glitches with modern GPU Drivers.

You CAN get previous drivers for some GPUs, but newer GPUs can't use those drivers. Kinda sucks cause I can no longer effectively do Restricted runs on my new computer now 🙃

If you had one equipped that doesn't exist on previous patches, the game just gives you a default skin. Only exemption from this is podiums, which instead give a default podium, but when you go back to current patch and queue into a game, the Slayer is not on ANY podium and is facing toward the demons... which is hilarious.

But anyways, no issues with shit like that. As for HOW to downpatch, easiest way is there's a downpatcher in the Modern Speedrunning Discord

You basically get the downpatcher, tell it which version you want, and run it, and it'll make a new folder with the files for that version (which you then just drag/drop into your Doom Eternal install folder)

For early game, route around chainsaw to delete annoying heavies (Hell on Earth in particular you can chainsaw 3/5 Arachnotrons, and skip a few more of them, so you only ever have to actually 'fight' one of them).

As soon as you can, you should upgrade SSG and work towards its mastery. There's a mechanic in the game that is basically "one shot prevention", where you have any amount of armor, and you take a lot of damage, you'll still be left with 5 hp. So with SSG mastery, you can hook onto a fodder -> precision bolt (or just use an ssg shot or chainsaw or some other bullshit) to gain 10-30 armor (20off the kill, 10 if you 'hit' with ssg after the hook I think? Numbers may be off) and that will always keep you alive somehow, etc.

Energy Shield gives 360 degree protection on a very short cooldown, so is a very good and easy mod to use which requires no investment in terms of weapon points.
