That’s mod cancelling, you’re doing it too quickly, the best method is to throw a punch mid mod equip animation to cancel the animation instead of activating BATS

It really only has two uses, three if you’re dedicated enough

The most practical use for it is quicker ballista punch swapping, good for taking out pain elementals quicker, and the second use being the rocket ballista combo, it’s actually a bit better than rocket pb but the skill ceiling practically nullifies its usefulness

The third use being pb ballista bats, which is harder to pull off than rocket ballista, and yes while there is no downside to it from a purely gameplay perspective it’s a very slight improvement and is too hard to pull off to be worth it

The other potential combo is pb rocket with bats but it’s actually slower than normal pb rocket because it gives the rocket a ridiculously long cooldown, akin to overdrive

Some generic advice I could give for early game success in a campaign is that a sticky bomb to a soldier/mecha zombies feet will put them into stagger, and a mid range shot with put an imp or a zombie into stagger, and doing a close range GIBS them, but doing a close range shot on a soldier staggers them, and only damages a mecha zombie

Also that when you start getting praetor tokens your first priority should probably be quicker weapon switching, followed by quicker dash refills, and subsequently everything else in the fundamental category

Anything in particular you struggle with? There's a lot of small things you can do to increase survivability in harder content.

There's some obvious stuff like "Energy Shield gives 360 degree protection" so you should always use that if you take a bit too much damage and are scared of dying, but on top of that there's some small stuff like

If you have ANY amount of Armor (or maybe it's 5+? It's some amount), you cannot be killed in a single shot. So the best thing to do to constantly keep yourself alive is to find a fodder (soldier, imp, zombie), meathook them, then swap to PB and kill them with PB. This is the most consistent "Hook -> Weapon" kill since PB can kill all of them in one shot, and it will give you 20 armor (flaming hook gives 20 armor when the thing dies, +30 armor if you shoot them with ssg [not kill with ssg]). So constantly hook -> pb, or hook -> chainsaw if you REALLY need iframes, can keep you alive for awhile. It's one of those things that's not easy to explain/see from people's gameplay, but is very important.

Also, the Equipment Fiend rune works with the Flaming Hook mastery of SSG. So it will allow you to get your ice bomb, frags, and flame belch back faster by constantly doing hook -> pb, allowing you to get more resources + just generally having ice bomb more often is useful.

The excess damage does carry through, but you will be put to 5 health every time, more or less. So at 5 armor 80 health you'll go down to 5 health, but at 10 health 10 armor you'll also only go down to 5 health

This is partly why Dread Knights and Mancubi are so scary, cause their slams are multi hit
