And the time to kill in the game is so low that you'll kill most enemies before the falter ends

So remote det is good for people who can't kill fast but otherwise it's a straight DPS loss from base rockets

I shouldn't say DPS. DPS is a bad metric cause time to kill is more important with low demon health counts.

To be honest, the same can be applied to literally everything. There's always something that one thing that everyone knows, but the rest are left in the dark. I will take DOOM Eternal's soundtrack as an example.

I think it's a bit of both, but mostly I think it was "accidental". Spirit demons are immune to being staggered, but Microwave Beam is a different type of stun than staggers.

In fact, Microwave Beam USED to crash the game if you used it on an upside down Arachnotron while Remote Det was fine lol

When I view worst/bad mods I try to look at all skill levels and the uses (niche or otherwise) of weapons. Basically

"How good is this weapon for a newbie -> someone who beat thegame once -> someone who's doing Ultra nightmare -> someone who's doing modded content" etc. etc.

Mobile Turret is deeeeefinitely worse than Energy Shield, theoretically even for a new player, but a new player won't know how to capitilize on the invulnerability of EShield, and Mobile Turret is the best fully automatic DPS except for Micro Missiles with Primary Charger

but MT also is hitscan which is kind of a nice bonus as well. So MT is probably the "easiest to use weapon for the DPS you get for a new player", if that makes sense.

It's also why Arbalest isn't viewed as terrible because while Dblade is generally better in 99% of cases, Arbalest is easier to use compared to Dblade when someone is just starting out.

I actually really like Mobile Turret. I also think Mobile Turret is not that good.

@crimson mesa the point I'm trying to make there is that Remote Det gets "less useful the better a player gets", because better players will be dealing damage faster, which in turn causes demons to get staggered earlier just from the damage they take (if you did NOT know, demons have a certain health value that will trigger a stagger, on top of Remote Det triggering a stagger just based on Remote Det itself)

It's the same for Micro Missiles. Micro Missiles are an ok weapon mod, with a very low skill floor and a medium skill ceiling (mostly in the form of Primary Charger). Precision Bolt on the other hand has a medium skill floor (mostly in regards to aim), but then has a much much much higher skill ceiling (quick swaps, punch swaps, SLOBS, etc), and on top of the Precision Bolt doesn't require ANY weapon points to BE that good, whereas Micro Missiles requires 9 weapon points + mastery

So the better a player gets, the "worse" Micro Missiles are in comparison to Precision Bolt.

Technically, Precision Bolt has ALWAYS been better than Micro Missiles, but nobody who's new to the game is going to be good at quick swapping, punch swapping, etc. So Micro Missiles are a great tool for newer players. But the better a player gets, Micro Missiles can't compete with Precision Bolt.

As far as ENJOYING the weapon mod/weapon... that's irrelevant to the discussion. People can like/enjoy whatever they want. Doesn't change the fact the usability of said weapon.

If you have Air Control (and even without it), you can easily outmaneuver any attack from a Tyrant, most notably by just using Meathook repeatedly.

This also has the added benefit of avoiding OTHER enemies at the same time as you avoid the Tyrant.

I really don't care if you use it or even like it 🤷 but it's also very inefficient, and even its use in stunning a single enemy is pretty niche when the game isn't built around 1 v 1 combat. There's pretty much never a time where you'll need to specifically stun a SINGLE enemy and deal minimal damage to it, when you could instead Meathook Jump -> shoot the thing with better weapons to actually kill it.

SSG does max damage to tyrants outside of their melee range, so simply not holding W and quickswapping like usual is already so much more effective than desperately MWB-tapping within tyrant melee range where making 1 mistake instantly costs you 100 hp

Also theoretically since Sticky Bombs have "infinite range" compared to Full Auto, you would have to also factor in the amount of time it takes to get TO the Arachnotron to kill it since Full Auto has very high damage fall off.

Each spirit in each level is specifically coded to only possess certain demons (i.e. some spirits cannot possess hell knights, some spirits cannot possess whiplashes, etc etc)

So if you kill all of that specific type of enemy in an arena, the spirit will just despawn on its own

So in short, spirits kill themselves.

In fact there's several spots in TAG1 where you can Ice Bomb an enemy (or even chainsaw it) right before it gets possessed, so when it dies the Spirit pops right out and you can kill the other enemies that could get possessed (mostly thinking about the Arachnotrons in the... right side Trial i believe of Blood Swamps, but also the Cyber Manc in the beginning of Holt)

But regardless, it's pretty much fastest to use Dblade. Especially at the end of Immora, as you can short circuit the last fight by killing all 5 Stone Imps at once (more will spawn, but the gate will despawn so you can just end the level)

You should be able to do that... Ballista -> SSG is not a "fast swap" like PB Rocket is. All you need to do is just press the weapon wheel button after firing the weapon and it'll swap back to the previous weapon. There shouldn't be any complicated timing or anything

But otherwise, you can just use weapon wheel to swap to the first weapon (ballista), swap to the 2nd weapon (ssg), then just tap the weapon wheel button.

So the way rockets work in Doom Eternal is they spawn FROM the barrel of the rocket launcher, and they travel "towards where your cursor is pointing".

What is most likely happening is the first shot fires a rocket towards the ceiling, but the 2nd... MAY be firing at your arm? Or... something? Somehow it's firing "backwards" (i.e. into the ground)

I almost feel like this is opening up a can of worms, but the Unmaykr is probably one of the weapons I wouldn't say is shit. It's NEVER better than BFG, aside from older patches in Overdrive arenas (which even then, only marginally useful). But Unmaykr itself is still "good" and easy to use, whereas other weapons/mods are usually harder to make good use out of (Full Auto, Remote Det).

Now I say that but obviously if you remove SSG/Stickies, Full Auto would be good just like Unmaykr would be good if you removed BFG... so I kind of see the irony in the statement. But I'd argue someone isn't at a disadvantage for using Unmaykr over BFG per se. I dunno, it's a weird one. And I mostly think this because Proteh's Horde Mode ONLY has Unmaykr, so you can really see how good it is there.

The unmakyr is nice imo and I love the way the implented it with the name and stuff but the main problem with it is the share of bfg ammo as you said and it's so sad considering it feels so magical when you first unlock it considering you need to go through the hell of slayer gates but damn is it not that useful

I think if you made it so that the total BFG ammo was either 80 or 90, and then had BFG shots cost 40/45, it'd make it so you still only get 2 BFG shots but Unmaykr becomes more ammo efficient. There's probably a magic number that would make Unmaykr worth sharing the same ammo as BFG

Oh yeah the amount of bfg ammo you get IS balanced for the bfg but ass for the unmakyr like you said and your idea sure is nice but I would make it 50 for each bfg shot and the amount of ammo you get well, 50

I think in general the weapon balance in the game just wasn't a top priority.

The only weapon that really got buffed was Full Auto and it got 3 buffs over the entire span of the game XD Though 2 of them were very minor/barely noticed by the community, and the 3rd, while significant, wasn't even enough to push past its status.
