The unmakyr is slightly more effective against a possessed demon than a bfg (even with a direct hit). I emptied all of my unmakyr ammo into the possessed pain elemental and it was a one shot, whereas two direct bfg shots still has at least two lock-ons left.

I've beaten the game on nightmare, including both DLCs. I'm expecting the Master levels to be on a par with DLC1 difficulty, which is to say "I need the ability to save and quit because I cannot slog through a long series of ultra tough encounters without taking a break". Plus as you say, if the game soft locked or crashed it would be brutal
