Generally it's accepted that Davoth made the Father, who made Urdak and the Earthly realms through divine technology. Davoth either made Jekkad or Jekkad existed before him.

So I personally see him as just... the first and most powerful man of Jekkad, who created a society and a race of machines, rather than the god people envision him as.

I kind of disagree but I also understand the sentiment. The way I see it, there's nothing inherently wrong with gating some tangible "thing" behind the highest difficulty or whatever. Since some time has passed, can we agree that the concept of Davoth is super underwhelming? Doom guy being a destined Slayer / clone / or whatever of Davoth. And the possible top dog of hell just being Doom guy with tattoos? Super disappointing. Doom Eternal is a great game, but it jumps the shark at TAG1's ending cut scene (and earlier when the codex hints at Davoth).
It really is just better if Doom guy was originally always just a lone marine sent to Phobos for disobeying orders / assaulting his superior officer etc and that hell is just that... hell... The slayer should have just gone after the demon lords, not a human, a doom guy with tattoos in a mech, very underwhelming. It's over thinking it, and trying too hard to subvert expectations, which worked out "very well" when they overthought "The Last Jedi" and ruined Luke Skywalker. Subverting expectations is not necessary, and is often detrimental. There are other ways to do twists etc.

I still the mere fact that davoth and doom guy look alike ruins doom guy's character.

So then because of this, Doom guy was never just a random marine. He was essentially destined from the beginning of time to get stationed on phobos etc etc to then eventually kill the maykrs and bring davoth back. He's the slayer of his world, a copy of davoth, with exceptional strength and skill even before the divinity machine stuff... He is no longer an average marine fighting to survive. It completely changes doom guy. I mean, we can agree to disagree, but you see where I'm coming from.

Its gameplay still rules, blood swamps is great etc, it's purely the story / lore that kills it / jumps the shark right at the end of tag1, for me. Tag2 is also fun gameplay wise, even though the hammer makes things too easy and there's reskinned gimmick enemies like stone imps (not good or bad really). But the story and concept of davoth, jekkad etc just ruins it.

That being said, Immora is still a cool looking level and fun to play also...

The father, who took the life sphere of Davoth from out of his chest in the battle to defeat a very angry dark lord in the first battle and in doing so took his essence. Yea the archvile room is arguably more unfair though one time I saw someone complete that room on un, on console, and without super weapons so even then it’s still fair if you’re good at the game.

I miss classic post buff holt slayer gate, I think it made sense for the final slayer gate to be so over the top, it made me a better player also since I had to be to beat it on nm (I also had no bfg ammo).

It’s optional also and it wasted dev time that could be used for more important things than a controversial nerf. Though I could apply this to update 5 and to a lesser extent 6 (with the maligog nerf).
