So I was at the part of holt where you get the possessed tyrant, I killed everything killed the possessed tyrant, then got clipped out of bounds before I could kill its spirit and it still saved checkpoint
Does anybody who has looked into the code of the game know how the spirits are handled? There was also a time where I was doing a secret encounter and it counted as me beating the encounter even though a spirit was still left unkilled, so I wonder they’re not coded as regular enemies

Second one was really easy tbh, just one marauder who you can lure into the room so that you can just duel him, the just a blood maykr who you can kill in one shot, and a lot of time to do it

Sounds like you got incredibly lucky. Only things I’ve noticed in TAG 1 is that sometimes it (secret encounter) is completed when I have one small enemy left and the animation interrupts it. And in general the DLC seem a bit buggier than campaign.

I think I have to re-map the crucible to stand a chance on the master levels. That means I’ll have to unmap either HC, Ballista, or RL (to the weapon wheel) and eliminate Plasma rifle entirely

You see, the Events section of DOOM Eternal has always been stuffed with, well, events, since the game came out. However, now it’s inevitable that it may be, for the first time, empty.
That may happen if id decides to stop even repeats of events.

The Hammer was a perfect addition.
Hammer has amazing stun and gives tons of loot
its a safe way to quickly kill it if your worried about messing up like on UN
Plus you can recharge it with glory kills and weak points
really good against super heavy demons and the dark lord

I still say it's not the difficulty of TAG2 that made it worse but rather just the design of the arenas being very boring/uninspired.

Both the arenas themselves, and the enemy spawns, are just very one note/boring. A LOT of World Spear in particular is just "fodder spam"

this is pretty random but I have a conspiracy theory that a reason we didn't get any really new demons besides blood maykrs is because it would take too long to create the destrucible demon system they have, which is why all new enemies are reskins / die in one shot / do not require damaged models

The long story short is that a LOT of stuff gets patched out randomly. And while it most likely isn't actually malicious or "targetting speedrunners", a lot of the changes definitely wouldn't have affected a general player
Also yeah, there's definitely a lot of "reworked" assets. My favorite bit of that is because TAG2 demons didn't need to worry about Crucible, several of them flash as if they're glory killable if you equip Crucible
Which kind of gives insight that Crucible, while having a damage value, also just "makes enemies glory killable", if that makes sense.

I pulled out my crucible on the cultists at the cultist base level and they all glowed blue, but if I unequipped it, it stopped. So kinda yeah

They have my favorite glitch in the game, if you Dblade them, their red outfits turn white because they definitely don't have 'bisected models' and so use the default white clothed zombie

And as with all swap techs you repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat... until you are consistent in practice "mode".
Then you have to get consistent mid combat too but learning a new tech whilst mid combat is really difficult so you need the training room first

PC players have a massive advantage in this regard yeah (console spawns and notarget).
That said I learned slobs the way you are training it now so it's doable just takes more effort.
Tip: replay the mission with infinite ammo cheat.
So you don't have to worry about ammo + you can just keep freezing the tyrant

Plus the mixed enemies and arena layout make it less than ideal for swaptech training

Just replay with infinite ammo and sentinel armor cheats and just spam whatever swaps you want.
Gladiator blocks your shots so it won't die fast

sgn is just a normal campaign lvl with noraml number of demons and overall.
and sgn ml is not campaign lvl it is just sgn but harder with alot of more zombies and heavies, and it does not count to the story, cuz it is a master level.

and in the main menu of your campaign save you can go to masterlvls
The primer weapon does not affect swap speed though but ofc using base fire as primer is easier

Tbh I use PB but is it useless if I don’t always hit the target perfectly at all? Quickscoping while moving on console is a bit awkward.
For slobs? No you can miss the pb shot entirely
The tech doesn't depend on hitting the target just correct setup and swap / input timing

You need to fire the chaingun for abt 2 seconds or so first
It's not specific though, as long as you fire long enough it will work

RL is Dpad down, and mod is left trigger. If there’s an issue reaching RL it’s probably due to the deep trigger squeeze on this controller.
All these rules nobody mentioned before. I didn’t know the HC could only fire 1 shot, or that you can’t just spam fire (which is probably why it did single SLOB) or that there’s such a thing as single SLOB.
Nerf them because their AI is garbage so they don’t attack when they’re supposed and you have to sit there exposed to all the demons trying to coax them toward you like a lost puppy.

Use Dazed/Confused and use 1 Ballista on a Prowler. It's now out of commission longer than if you outright killed it
Plus there's SO much space to just meathook jump + ballista boost to get your bearings and just wait to SSG Parry or whatever else the Marauders, you should never get hit
I'm not saying it's the easiest but it's easier than SGNs since you can just easily avoid the Marauders vs. being in an enclosed space
Avoiding them is the easy part, the Prowlers keep biting you in the ass whenever you're trying to focus on the Marauders
And that room is pretty circular and tight anyway... You don't get far too much space to work with
But like I’m talking about here, you can’t even engage the marauder except on their own terms, so you have to land and bait them.
Hence why D/C is better than just outright killing them
I do agree with you that Marauder design is flawed/annoying. Not necessarily hard but mostly unfun, and I'd love to have seen redesigns that allow for more proactivity

Imo Carcasses are the best designed enemies because while they're frustrating, you can usually reliably manipulate their AI to not block you, or at least block you in a way you can expect. Plus, they have reactive gameplay (frag/ice bomb shield to get rid of.it, overload it with heat blast), AND they have proactive gameplay (SSG hook them so they can't shield you, PB rocket them to just outright kill them but MAYBE they block a shot, or 1 charge Dblade to just kill them.even of they have a shield)

While one can argue there's "multiple ways of dealing with Marauders", I'd say 80 to 90% start from the same "wait for Marauder than Parry", vs. Carcass having many different lines to take that DONT start from the same spot.

An enemy can be annoying but still be designed well/contribute more. The only thing I'd say sucks about Carcasses is the cc on their beyblade attack, although that's most a "Doom Eternal cc" issue which also extends to Marauders
Well you can't exactly create an evil equal to the Doom Slayer if you could just meathook towards him and one or two shot him lol
What I hate most about Carcasses is their spinning melee attack tbh, not even the shields
If you find yourself near two Carcasses, they can just bounce you back and forward

If I could redesign Marauder the simplest thing I'd do is make it where you don't have to Parry him. Keep parrying as a mechanic, sure, but make him take maybe 20% to 50% less damage while not parried, but give him a small (noticable but not too long) time after he attacks where you can shoot him for SOME damage.
Admittedly this is still a reactive play style, but it's a little less restrictive towards the player, especially for beginners (to be honest I think this change would MOSTLY affect beginners)
Personally I'd like just a visual animation or a few movement indicators you need to pay attention to rather than a flash of green
Also, it goes without saying, fix Marauder AI bugs. And also friendly fire wolf. Those are kinda obvious changes

The most infuriating is the thing where if you kill a dog immediately he just summons another cause I guess the "damage shield has taken" doesn't get set to 0 until sometime after the dog spawns

What about flawless blocks? You literally need to have extremely good reaction time and you need to master it if you want to block while taking no damage

I don’t care about commonality. I’m saying that MK has a logical approach to blocking that the Marauder and his parents lack. It’s just lazy design to use a green flash to cover the fact that your character only SOMETIMES drops shield to attack.

It's not a good comparison when you take into consideration that blocking is more or less screwed up in MK11 anyway
To make the comparison accurate, Marauder basically won’t die UNTIL you achieve 3 flawless blocks.
I would disagree because it's not something the player can necessarily control. You can sort of manipulate by "making sure there's no enemies behind the Marauder" but that's not exactly the most intuitive/easiest thing to achieve. Not that the difficulty itself should really play into it, but either way, it makes for a frustrating experience, ESPECIALLY since enemy fire while he's swinging the axe cancels the attack as well.

At the very very very least, making it so he doesn't block "during attacks" would be tolerable since that's the worse part about friendly fire with Marauder.
I agree, but I think that they'd have to find a different way for him to spawn a dog instead then if they were to fix it, because the dog is an interesting addition to his list of abilities but we would literally never see the dog otherwise because no one shoots at his shield mindlessly once they've completed the game at least once

In fairness, in modded content or master levels, things can get hectic enough that you can accidentally hit the shield.
Yeah for base game/DLCs you probably rarely hit the shield, but that's cause at this point that content is easy for players with so many hours
Just don’t limit the dog to being a punishment for hitting the shield then
Sometimes escaping a throw doesn't work for me if I was blocking before it, and there seem to be some inconsistencies with frames while you're stopping to crouch or dashing away
But in something like Unreclaimed Earth you'd probably still see dogs simply from him blocking shots intended for other demons
I think the Marauder should take more damage from remote rocket and sticky bombs, at the very least
Also this could be an easy fix too for sure
It would actually give us a reason to try to kill him in more creative ways

Possessed demons don't take more damage from plasma. The take less damage from "everything", though some things theyre more resistant to than others

IIRC the most effective all-rounder was micro missiles. Tyrants and barons have least resistance to lock on though
The damage doc should have Spirit resistances as well. I think it doesn't have ones that only appear in modded content though. I could be wrong

yeah though double dblade is 4800 damage. There are no enemies that have like 4K health, Mancubus has 3.5K and Pain elemental has 5K.
Ice bomb damage boost is enough to make a single dblade kill a mancubus and even double dblade won't kill PE's (stagger though)

Hugo actually talked about not changing the friendly fire dog on Mayo’s podcast. He said he kept it like that to not change what ended up becoming a large part of fighting Marauders.
Though this quote seems rather hypocritical when taking into account enemy nerfs no one asked for that were never reverted like the archnotron nerf.

Yeah he's said several times it was a bug but they decided not to change it. It just seems silly when a large portion of the player base hates it.
Also the "Arachnotron Nerf" wasn't targeted at Arachnotrons, it was an FPS fix to enemy AI because ALL enemy AI was influenced by fps in fucked ways
But that change affected all versions and affected their accuracy. They’re now a nonissue even casually.
If I recall correctly, Hugo said that they won't do anything about the dog because people have gotten used to the current experience with the Marauder, and that it's just the way it is
The most significant example was zombies moon walking/gliding across the floor to hit the player, I remember Arrhythmia had an amazing video detailing it

The qa was a sharp downgrade from their previous games. 2016 was more polished on release than Eternal is now.
For every good change, there's two that went unanswered, or a negative change, or some weird big or whatever.
Then they wasted resources on changes no one wanted. Rather than on the bugs/crashes.
And I don't wanna say "once the ratio of good changes to bad is big enough", cause honestly no matter what people will always complain about something and you can't appease everyone
But there's definitely some changes/design choices that most people would be content with over some other ones.
Like console kb&m support, baffling it was never added in a game clearly designed with that control scheme in mind. Also it soft locked on my first taras nabad ml run despite playing it current patch.

You don't need the Classic Doom games for the default version of the Doomguy Skin (If you have the Sentinel Batteries for it), but for the color variants, you do need the first 3 Doom Games for the 3 color variants, 64 sadly doesn't have the Doom 64 skin when you connect your BethesdaNet acc, that is unfortunately only from the Sixty Forsaken event, though I wish they updated the bonus for D64 to give you the skin
Doom1, 2 and 3 give recolors of the classic marine skin. Classic green is found in the Fortress of doom for 2 sentinel batteries
