Cool maps, lots of different lookin rooms, makes you feel like you're on the move. If you're the one who did the art for this, fantastic job on the TC. Feel like there's too many resources though, basically never dip below 100 armor and health and near max ammo, and when you do you get topped right back up. I never died once, beating all 4 maps on my first blind run. In map3 the roof texture is missing along with many in the rocket launcher room, the fight with the baron(?) is too simplistic, straight hallway where you can hang back in the previous room and just dump the chaingun. Kinda universal in that regard, fights feel straight foward with you rarely getting caught out. In map 2 there's a teleporter looking thing that doesn't teleport you but later on in the level there's an identical looking thingy that does teleport you. The prison section in map1 felt a bland, pistoling zombiemen and imps. Maybe have the cells all in one hallway, and at the end of the hallway have a button you push to open all the cells at once for an enemy rush. In all though, good, can't wait to see where it leads
The wad uses the freedoom stuff which is probably why theres some missing stuff i also might make a new wad and try to make at least something good im still kinda new to mapping so thats also why some areas are a little bland im thinking of using otex and just the normal doom textures but I'll try to make the wad a little better

Is there a specific version of otex that would be the best to use because i downloaded the recent version and didn't expect to see 8k textures is there any with less but still alot of textures
This wad was like a breath of fresh air after playing a wad with horrendous gameplay, so I liked it a lot. Architecture is nice, gameplay is very easy and there are missing textures in every map.

I never did go back to that yet since nobody mentions it but I'm pretty sure it's just a different tag
When I was making them I found that some teleports would stop you in place and break momentum
I'm sure there's a way to have it like they are and combine it with sound but I'm not really sure how to do it lol

Keeping momentum doesn't work in some places, cuz I run into a portal and almost flew back into lava

Legit as i booted the wad up the flickering areas caught my attention but for all that there is, the music caught me lol
looks great so far, the bit with the cracks in the floor is also cool, but i fell into the inescapable lava pit area lol by accident

my wad is in the earliest state even plausible and i've had people go at "wheres the geometry" but its meant to be a basic ass office building for the first map 😭
its not meant to be anything impressive, just the most doom 1 e1 eperience i can try to provide but with a bigger monster roster

give it enough time and this wad will have quite a few maps
its got 1, which you can just walk through but thats intentional. you have to look for items inside of it to have them for the rest of the game, e.g the chainsaw is only available on that level
pistol starting is not recommended for such a wad
there is a 2nd level but its wip

atleast you didn't make the same mistake I did and made your first doom map (after the ones you make to figure out how doors work and stuff, like a legit one you try hard on) a 1-1 recreation of your house you had to bring out a laser measurer for. The computers aren't the worst thing by comparison

I may revisit that map and fix it up before I twist it into a horrible hellscape

they were direct photo scans put through the doom palette

2, it's the standard one to be modded, and back porting to doom 1 later is usually easier than foward porting to doom 2 later if you happen to change your mind later

Any advice on making a doom map, I know this sounds silly but I genuinely don't know what to do. As said before I don't make maps in a way that I feel like I should, making a box then detailing it, instead of making the sprawling labyrinths I remember from the games themselves. But when I try to force myself to do that, I just fall into the same trap again

Well I feel like I'm making no progress, this is like multiple hours of work and it's just 4 rooms. Then I go play vanilla Doom maps and other custom maps and they got dozens of rooms, all interconnected and all flow together
make the basic route for the maps, then you can go back them and add more, just get the main route from the entrance to the exit

Ultimate Doom Builder. And I recommend to check out DavidxNewton for guides. Just keep making maps and you will keep getting better at it.

I just always see doom maps where each section is always in these crazy-ass shapes and it just made me think it was bad practice to align almost everything to the grid

I looked at the one in valiant. Changed the blast damage, and tweaked the hit delay to my liking.
I would download Valiant. I think skill saw made the original suicide bomber. And there is a mbf21 update for it.
Then use Slade to track all the frame data. What's the other one? WadEx? Where you can tweek attack values and such.
Though I think everyone is using a text file for monster parameters which can be viewed in Slade.
It does happen to be one of the best megawads of all time
And then just search for Slade 3. Drag and drop onto the program. You can view sprites and take a detailed look at the monster formatting in a text file... At the bottom next to ss_...

Impassable is set at initialization iirc, so that can't be changed

I just been taking pictures of random shit in my room for weapons
I have a very stupid mapping challenge that I just came up with. everyone receives 4 random textures from the default doom 2 texture library and is forced to make an entire map with just those textures
That's a very normal speed mapping style challenge
I support this, also 4 random enemies and pickups
the one guy who gets only the worst enemies to fight against:
Archville, pain elemental, chain gunner, specter
I’d love a map of just those (honest)
Also 4 random line specials they have to use atleast once (only those which have an og doom equivalent and script execute, all scripts must be 4 lines)

F_SKY1 will display whatever the defined sky is for that map
i mean not all levels have to have a sky texture
(As a ceiling or floor flat)
All levels will have one by default
Unless you specifically define one as null, which would be weird
Well, all levels that replace existing maps will use that map's sky texture by default
If your map uses non standard naming conventions then it will not have a sky set by default
(This is only possible for ports that support mapinfo afaik)

My dad used to be a drafter (someone who drew blue prints), maybe I can ask him if he has any plans laying around. My mom also works in systems management or whatever it's called, she basically uses autocad all day
Also, for your custom weapon sprites you keep making (awesome work btw), I could take some perspective photos of some 40k mini weapons. Got a lot of space marine bits, some from 87

Hello, I want to make my first DOOM mod, specifically for DOOM 1995. I usually play a bunch of other mods using UZDOOM, but I wanna make my own now! I don't know how hard it'll be, but hopefully it won't be too hard.
What type of mod, map, enemy, weapon?
Maps are easiest to get into I think, but I haven’t done much with the ladder honestly
I was thinking of making the mod like this gruesome horror mod; the map having tight corners, but reasonably sized portals. I don't know about making custom enemies or weapons.

Just remembered an idea I had earlier today, Doom's movement is different than other guys, almost like you're on like ice skates y'know. So what if someone created a mod that leaned into that, put doomguy in a UAC electric combat wheel chair and let him drift (wip lore explanation), putting vehicle like movement into the form factor of infantry. That could be fun

For the doom mod I'm making I'm thinking about having UAC scientists explain demon biology. I gave it some thought and I think it'd be cool if like Imps, knights/barons, and archvilles are the same spieces. Archivilles being queens, knights/barons being soldiers, and imps being workers. Mancubi and pinkies are also the same spieces, but have extreme sexual dimorphism, with hordes of male pinkies tending to mancubi matriarchs. Cyberdemons were super predators like T-Rexes, the spider mastermind and arachnetrons were under water filter feeders that became all wierd after being put on robo bodies on the surface (kinda like how blob fish look normal in the deep sea but wierd at the surface), and Revanants are simply robot bodies using the energy and bones of a hell knight

A moving camera can't be too hard, hopefully. Just remove player control, set the camera to move and set the player to use said camera, then once the motion is over teleport the player where the camera used to be and return player control. I like tile based textures since you can do fun stuff with them, like those hex metal floors you can make a stair case or like ruined floors. I used em as raising and falling fuel rods in a map
get funky with the sector work and create cool patterns on the floor
if you use doom 64's sector coloring and just change the floor you can effectively customize the color of your floor tiles too
same with the ceiling
Used that to make blue crates, but that works best on gray scale textures
I did that with flat19 to create the lines in the parking lot at the end of my wad's map02

just found out something odd when trying to make title screen music. the original D_DM2TTL is only 11 seconds long, and i made a song that is 11 seconds but it got cut off half way through. Out of desparation, i made a 4 second version and it got cut off 2 seconds in. im about to try seeing if doubling the length of the original by extending it with nothing will make is stop where i want. this very confusing.

I thought GZDoom had support for real room over room, and not the sneaky sector/invisible portal stuff of previous engines

you could do it if you separate the areas with 3D floors, which I've done in my own maps but there's definitely cleaner ways to do it so you don't have to create so many dummy sectors

No room over room is one of the few remaining true limitations. Fortunately it van be created in game space in a variety of ways.
Remember 3dfloor mode creates the dummy sectors for you

You don't literally use the sky texture on the ceilings you want it on. You need to use F_Sky, then define which sky you want to appear in MAPINFO

Ok so the cacodemon part of map06 is finally done now i have to work on the mancubus part the cave part which is gonna be a little more difficult yes this level lets you jse the bfg because how hard it is and also because when you ho through the portal hell takes all your weapons so you have to restart getting all your weapons back
