I did some voice recording that was intended for my original total conversion wad with my OC. It may sound weird if nostalgia critic sounds like zekar.

Is there any way to make all selected sidedefs one texture instead of, well, this?
CTRL + Click was it? That should at least highlight/select all with the same current texture

For skies do F_sky or whatever it’s called, not the individual sky texture

I figured it out
So turn the walls into like a sector (it can be as small as you want)
Make the ceilling F_sky1 of the sector (not the walls)
Make the ceilling height 0
It should work now
Apparently, if your ceilling is F_sky1, it automatically changes the walls to be like that aswell (I’m assuming it might be if they have no texture?)
You could also try just doing that to the main sector instead of the walls, which would probably work better
The effect I’m going for is to eventually replace all the walls with a seamless forest texture, which I’ll have to make myself. But I can still use the above method until then
should I just use gzdoom to test vanilla-compatible maps?

you can enable that in most source ports
You can also just use mouselook in modern ports, with the understanding that it makes classic levels easier in a few ways.

I hate all those 10 minute videos that never get to the point on how to make a door in Doom, so I explained it as fast as possible, hope it helps someone :)
(Probably should have mentioned, but this applies to the standard Doom format, not Hexen or UDMF, if you are a beginner mapper watching this video I would advis...

I’d say you try and start with really simple rooms, like maybe just a room with a door, then slowly make them more complex in any way you wish (I’d go for things you’re not really quite sure what to do)
Don’t be afraid to look up tutorials, most of the time they’ll prove extremely helpful

Hey, I dont really know where to turn to ask since Reddit Doom is in a blackout state atm. This is my second time trying to create and account with doomworld.com and I still am not receiving a link to confirm my account. Last time I tried and waited, waited, waited and waited but never received any sort of verification email and that was like 2 weeks ago (and yes I clicked resend multiple times). Thinking that it might be a website issue, I waited until now to try again and still am not receiving any confirmation emails. Its frustrating and I dont understand why it is this difficult. Can anyone provide some insight as to what I can do?

I also struggled with that a lot and eventually gave up and authenticated with Discord. I assume it happens when you use an e-mail provider that isn't one of the major three of Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo.

there is no gzdoom option for doom 1 just heretic, strife, hexen, and doom 2

put your doom and doom 2 wads in the folder where your gzdoom.exe is

Hi, it’s me, very stupid, and I’m back with a question. I’ve watched and read a lot of teleporter tutorials and it still doesn’t work 💀. So uh, how to teleporter? Preferably a silent transition (illusion that player is still in the same room). And is there anything I should watch out for that may inhibit an otherwise correct teleporter, such as ceiling heights or specific ways the trip wires should be placed?

I think you just have to be in hexen or udmf format
Get a silent teleport
Put another one on the destination room
Set up tags and whatnot
Give the surrounding linedefs a teleport special (put the tags there too)

Yep, I’m in udmf and did the above. The most possible line where I see I could’ve made the error is “give the surrounding linedefs a teleport special” because the area is a weird one at the top of a staircase. But then again, I tested it again in an open area and it didn’t work (linked up to the destination when hovering over but not working in the test game)
(It’s not assembled right now because i decided it was a mess)

select the destination line and give it a tag number
then select the line from where you want to teleport and make it use function 215 "Teleport to Line"
make it's activation "When player walks over" and if you want the player to be able to use it more than once also check the "Repetable action" box
Still one of the things I tried. I don’t know. It was late, so maybe I just wasn’t paying attention every try (not unheard of from me). Will try again when it’s not midnight

But I moved to strictly studio cause I wanted to create but didn’t know where else to go. Then it quit running on my potato laptop and I moved to doom
doom is friendly to all potato users
Also I find myself getting a hang of things a lot faster. Of course blocky maps are a lot faster than roblox maps (spent hours just to make a small cave while I made an entire house in a little over that time).
Given, the cave does look leagues more realistic, but like my own computer can run it anymore

Alrighty. So today, my garage door didn’t open anymore because its sector was divided in the process of building a roof (the two new door sectors formed had equal ceiling heights that prevented them from ascending ya know…), so I used my common fix of creating a teeny tiny high ceiling in between to let the door lift.
Long story short, I’d now like both fractions of the garage door to lift at the same time whenever one of them is opened to give the illusion that they are the same door.
Oh, and also, I added slopes today (also 3d floors for special objects but I didn’t think it looked as cool yet)

the map i'm making takes me around 10 minutes to complete, and that's me knowing all of it like the palm of my hand

Im probably just stupid and it can be opened again. But when you go up the HUGE ladder thing, but the first orange door, I cannot get back out and I cant go through the door with the space under it. So as far as I know, I'm soft locked.
u mean the entrance to the temple?
u arent supposed to get back out of the temple when u go inside

I wanted to put on something more detailed like the city sky, but couldn’t rescale textures on 3d objects. So I went with an animated tv instead
you could copy the 3d sector, then delete it and then when you paste it it'll let you scale it
I meant just the texture. Anyways, away from the computer, I just remembered I can adjust the texture of the control sector

What could be different? I selected Doom2 and then the pwad like other maps that works fine, but this not
myhouse needs features that aren't present on that port of the game

the only way you'll get better is by practicing
try to figure out what exactly you could improve on and dedicate to that exact thing for a bit, then move on to other things and so. after some time you'll have enough learned skill to put it all together in one map
map is finished! its pretty hard on UV and probably around 3-5 minutes long

from what i'm reading on the post you have a lot of interesting systems put in place like some sort of upgrade to the player and weapons
yah you get tokens if you find and finish a slayer gate. I will be putting in a teleport in varios parts of each episode that leads you to a store. You can buy health UP's and new weapons. Most new weapons do higher damage but are not as cost effective as their vanilla counterparts
there is are dozens of new monsters. I am making a bunch of Lovecraftian types
from what i'm seeing here all you're lacking is time to dedicate to it

why do people hate it
because vanilla enemies need to remain predictible or else it will seem cheap. If they must be changed, it is important to convey that information to the player. Either bye making a new sprite recolor or giving it some hints such as these in my wad
This is a vanilla cacodemon, however i changed him. The standard cacodemon has a chance to fire a yellow lightning orb which stuns the player. This is part of that attack animation so you know when to dodge.
I made the "fire" on the lost soul more orange. Many may not notice it as much. This Fire Soul replaces the Lost Soul. All Lost Soul behavior has changed slightly. Basically their melee attack is faster and they do not infight anymore!
this heal knight is firing a red bolt. These do absorb damage and heal the knight back to full health. Barons can alos fire these as well as their green poison

i do, but i have played maps where people have standard imps firing rockets, and cyberdemons with 9000 hp. You wouldn't know until you are either dead or out of ammo

i just had a really cool idea for a custom enemy that would fit very well in difficult mapsets
it would be called the mind flayer or something, and basically what it does is while it is alive, all enemies would be under its control, and what that means is nothing will infight with eachother
they will all just fight you

Don't know if I'll be going anywhere with this, bur cranked this prototype today. I wanted to make a toolgun for GZDoom mappers, and the first functionality I put in was adjusting a sector's brightness. Sometimes you just need to see things engine side.

This is how i have my starting area set up
E is Easy
M is hard
and (even though there are none here) H is Hard
That entirely depends on the encounters you make
would 100 bullets be enought for a few zombiemen and imps? Sure
would 100 bullets be enough for a cyberdemon? no
The first ocuple of encounters are against a couple of imps and Zombiemen
Shotguners also in hard
Your job as a map maker is to find that balance, find whether you want the player to be flush with ammo, or have it be very tight
I'll see what i can do, i'm planning to make this a one-map type thing that scales up as you go further down the city

The two imps start on medium onwards and the shotguners start on hard only

use middle textures

right click the line with the midgrate textures
you should see that a line has upper, middle and lower textures
a mid texture is a sort of floating texture, you can move it around the line and achieve effects like see through fences for example
or glass panels if you use a metal texture with lowered opacity

Hi, i'm new to making Doom maps and i just decided to make a little living room to practice, i think i'll add more rooms and objects to eventually make a full house. if you guys have any tips or suggestions for my lil house project, that would be greatly appreciated because i want to get better at doom mapping. i dont know what room to add next so if you guys could give me some ideas, that would really help. i want to get better at this and practice makes perfect. i'll update you guys on this house when i add somthing new. How about adding a table somewhere? Could be just a block protruding out of the ground or an actual table if you have access to UDMF features.
i tried to make an actual table but i found it a bit challenging. So to make up for the failure, i added a Ps1 model to the table to make it look nicer

Is it possible to get demons to target a doomguy clone without scripting? (Doom builder)
Enclose them in a room where they can't see the player but they can see the clone
I tried that, they didn't wake up to attack the clone
They need to be alerted
Make the room with the demons have a small sort of air vent to where the player actually is. That way the sound travels through that sector and alerts the monsters
That's how doom 1 and 2 do it

I'm here to cllab with people ot make big Wad, for doom 2, it will expand it in classic style, so basically vannila plus, but the catch is that there will too many new features like tons of new demons and so many new settings so yeah, i also plan to make expansion for that wad but i haven't ogt it scripted yet, it also has storys ||First wad: you deafted (fake) icon of sin and tought oyu could go home, but you stumble upon a skinhole that you jusp in and turns out it's the real hell, and you have benn lied all this time, and after many chapters you deafeat the real icon of sin|| ||Second wad : You are almost dying, but then you opened your eyes and your in hospital, you got out of your bed and travaled home, but then you hear demons and huge wave of mutated demons come in||
