Unless the manual or something says otherwise, the game mainly implies you simply teleport to Deimos. The level ends when you reach 10 health or below, but the game specifically has both levels match titles: E1M8 is "Phobos Anomaly," and E2M1 is "Deimos Anomaly." You end E1M8 by touching a teleporter, and IIRC when you begin E2M1, you are standing on a teleporter.

They didn't care about the logistics of how the story worked there - if they did, each episode wouldn't start with Doomguy magically losing all his guns. Like I said I think it's just an abstract storytelling device that they used. I think if Doom 1993 were made in 2025, Episode 1 would've ended off with Doomguy entering a teleporter and then the player having to fight a horde of demons, then Episode 2 would've just began in that same area.

But back then they can't use big storytelling things like that. Gotta work with what they have or you start to make the game inaccessible on certain hardware or bloat the file size.

I'm sure Dacote was an influence on Episode 1 - I just don't think nowadays it could be considered canon that Doomguy dies (mainly and especially under the modern canon's reinterpretation of classic Doom).
I think DACOTE was just translated into a general cliffhanger for the game, personally.
