The story is excellent, and IMO the best example of why politics in videogames rocks. It had several beautiful moments as a story, tying its themes into the narrative really well. I think it will prove to be a timeless story in a videogame.

People mainly bring up TLOU when they bring up shit like this. And that's fair. But to me TNO is a hell of a sell on how you can tell a beautiful political narrative in a videogame without detracting from really fucking fun gameplay.

doom's main aspect isn't it's graphics, or it's story, or it's lore, or it's characters, or world building, or whatever else. it's obviously the combat. When you compare all 3 it's difficult to say that doom 2016 is the best game, because the combat in that game doesn't require much thinking and it still retained some of that just run and gun, dark ages on the other hand is more slow paced with repetitive animations. they removed the glory kill which in itself isn't bad but then they replaced it with the slow mo (i forgot the name) knock off glory kill with the same 2 animations from what it seems, and didn't really encourage the players towards using all the weapons in your kit. For me i think eternal is the best shooter in the doom trilogy and 100% in all of gaming, as it tells the slayer to use literally everything he has in his kit, a punch that gets powered by ripping apart a demon? blood punch, out of ammo? rip a demon in half. Need armor? Burn the demons alive. Getting pressured? Freeze them.

And the list goes on
