2. this is a keen observation, and ostensibly true, but it falls apart under scrutiny. there can still be regret, humans are not omnipotent beings, we in our finitude are capable of making wrong calls for a manifold of reasons. humans are also subject to change, what seemed better at one point may feel worse now (very often observed with short-term vs. long-term pleasure). and we do think carefully to examine everything and weigh options to see what's best. this is can be made exceedingly difficult with conflicting "wants" in place.
3. i'd say this is a superficial analysis. humans are capable of abstract thinking and acting for long-term reasons. try asking someone "why do you go to the gym?" and you'll get a response like "because i want to get jacked" (there is a myriad of reasons, this was chosen arbitrarily), so for some reason the want to get jacked is stronger than the want for synchronic pleasure. but yes, there is obviously a downside to going to the gym (for most people) which is that it's hard, or time consuming, or whatever, and maybe being jacked isn't as appealing, which is why some people do stay home and eat chips. this is also exactly why we do think carefully about our next action: we are weighing different pleasures and displeasures.
