Red Dead Redemption 2 is what I'm expecting from baldurs gate 3. From what I've heard, baldurs gate is supposed to be a really long game, one you can just sink hours and hours into exploring the vast world interacting with characters and being completely immersed the whole time. For me that's what happened with Red Dead 2. From start to finish with red Dead I was completely fucking immersed, so captivated by the best story I have seen told in a video game before, so sucked in by a world that felt more alive than anything I had ever seen before. I have looked for a game that could replicate the experience RDR2 gave me but I haven't had a game that hit the mark as hard as Red Dead 2 did. From what I've heard, baldurs gate hits it even harder, and for that id be willing to pay 70 dollars, the reason that I haven't yet is that for some reason, I can only find physical copies online for 100+ dollars, I dont like digital and even if I did it would still be 55-70 dollars, I'm not familiar with the RPG genre and I dont know if I'll like the gameplay, and I am not one for medieval atmospheres in general. It feels like a conundrum for me because in the ideal world the game is so fucking worth every penny that I spend on it, the problem is just that i dont have much confidence that it can deliver on every single aspect to my autistic ass

I also have such high expectations that I'm scared to face the disappointment I might find if I buy the game

So, it's not as open world as RDR2, there's still distinct areas but they're large, have a very nice chunk of content in each of them, and have sub-areas you can access as well. The game is ultimately split into 3 Acts, all of them are pretty long depending on how you go about things; my most recent save is 58 hours, 45 minutes and I did everything I could find, but I also skipped a ton of dialogue because a lot of early game dialogue I've already seen. Combat is turn-based, it's DnD after all, and you're never guaranteed to do damage to an enemy on an attack, and some fights can range from like, a 30 second skirmish to a solid 20-30 minutes of hoping to fuck the enemy doesn't Sleep your wizard or get lucky with mutliple crits.

Mmmm, turn based combat is very iffy for me. It's been a long time since I've tried it, but i remember pokemon being a decent amount of fun as a kid, i kinda feel like it lacked depth tho, you just pick one of four moves and then do damage and repeat. And some friends tried to get me into Yu-Gi-Oh a month ago but the game was just too confusing for me to grasp. There are too many rules to wrap my head around and if you really wanna get into the game you sort of have to learn them all at the same time and it was just too overwhelming for me. DND is sort of the perfect middle ground for me as I love kind of just deciding on some fucking action and then rolling the dice and seeing what happens, it's a lot of fun. If the game is really like dnd then the gameplay does sound enticing, but if it's more like Yu-Gi-Oh then honestly I don't want it. If it's like Pokemon then eh I might get it but it would be more for the world than it would be for the gameplay.

The turn-based side of tings is entirely for combat only, and depending on how you build your character, you can end up with, like, 9 attacks a turn, but for the most part, it's one action, one bonus action, and you can choose what you do - movement has a set amount during combat, so you can only move, for example, 10m during a turn, but that's also what makes it far more tactical than just.. stand in room, click on enemy til they die, move on

and the Trio Attacks are pretty much just small minigames

the only thing is that your whole party has to be up to actually use them

also with bosses there are chase sequences with Paper Mario where you gotta protect everyone

enemy attacks can be dodged and in some cases even be used against the enemy

overall I really like Paper Jam

There's some setups with multiclassing, and at least 1 custom class mod that I've got, where I could easily get 8 attacks per turn, though it's a bit of extra setup and requires leveling into at least 3 different classes, and having the mod.

So, the way the in-game mod manager works is you just.. browse an in-game list of mods that people have uploaded, hit Subscribe, and the manager automatically deals with load order and activation.

It's also just infinitely more replayable than most new games; there's a dozen different endings and ways to progress through the game, plus the various companions to romance or ignore. So many other games are just one playthrough and you've done everything, maybe 2 if you missed, like, one easter egg or want to do a higher difficulty after a practice run.

I could easily do another dozen playthroughs and every decision be different, one of them being the token evil playthrough.

Small glitches are fine, like no cooldown on dropping ammo, or something else that's very miniscule and doesn't really change a battle should just be left, maybe at most a "hey, can you not do that while it gets fixed, thanks", but things where one person can become the changing factor between winning or losing a base because said one person cannot be shot or killed is definitely grounds for full punishment.
