Doom Eternal was definitely a step in the right direction for modern doom but I still love DOOM 1+2 more. I also think the game has a decent amount of weird decisions that turned me off at launch.

Not him but one that immediately comes to mind is Eternal being one of the most baffling implementations of a life system I've seen in a game since megaman zero

It can be avoided by just not picking them up (which it would still be nice to disable them as a whole), but they make death have no penalty to it and just encourage reckless/half-hearted gameplay because there's no consequences for death if you're put right back into the action

You don't learn anything because if you stockpile 1ups then you can just brute force any challenge the game throws at you
