half of the time when it should be a parry it just isnt, so im turning the parry window up
has to be a glitch bc I refuse to believe half of these parry misses are my fault
or the precise timing at such levels is so absurd it doesnt even work
id be very curious to see some clips of these supposed missed parries
okay the cyberdemon leader encounter is much better without the stupid broken high projectile speed
might be something up with your specific installation or something
but also even though the parry timing is technically still 200 milliseconds on 150% speed, the faster speed makes it feel very unforgiving

okay so in temple of lorimath you can completely ignore the vagary in the first big arena lol
awesome arena, also me knowing about the ricochet in this playthrough turns cacodemons into an actual advantage cause I can stun them with the shield saw and SHRED nearby demons, even leaders. For example once the pinky rider leader became exposed a cacodemon showed up and I could use ricochet on it to shred the leader, easiest leader kill ever
i like the vagary too I just didnt know you could ignore it
it is kinda funny, definitely not something they'd have allowed in the previous two games

it's wild how much better u get in subsequent playtroughs because u have a better understanding of the game and its tools
pincushion is hilariously good for the mass hellknight hallway in the final cosmic mission
side note but that hallway is one of my favorite things about how they handled exploration in the cosmic realm

okay funny thing about the first big arena is that the acolyte leader can be killed really fast but if you dont it becomes a archville eternal problem where its a hassle

okay so the strat i figured out for the funny acid+vagary arena is to keep your distance, use rockets and once the stupid armored arachnotrons are dead you can move in closer
that arena still sucks bc of how much it encourages standing back but well at least I have a strat for it

i find it funny how ressurection always runs the worst out of any stage in the game for me by a noticeable margin even though I have the graphics as low as humanly possible
and the game crashed right as I tried to restart isnt that funny
like the game STRUGGLES to load ressurection specifically at a high framerate its like it turns to actual slow motion

I was recently able to get the game running at a smooth 60fps on a 2060 and a below spec CPU

r7 9700x. 32gb ram ddr5 kingstone something, 9070xt, game runs at solid 100+fps on max everything 1440p, just had 2 crashes at the same level for some reason.
but it did dip to 30 in Reckoning, Forge, Forest and Resurrection

the whiplashes become truly annoying once they start shooting the homing projectile in enclosed spaces, thankfully that can be avoided by sticking close range
i love that part in harbor of souls with the two buffed Whiplashes
if you stay far from them they will kill you with the ranged projectile's though 😭
and even tho they are tanky here and fragile on eternal they still take less ssg shots to kill here bc every weapon deals a shit ton of damage
whiplashes in Eternal can occasionally pull some major bs with their ranged attacks

yk i feel like the slower projectiles here are both a detriment and a blessing
i find whiplashes good ricochet targets since they can tank alot of hits
they're easier to dodge but if u get swarmed by them u will die
same for cacodemons
i mostly use mancubi since they're easier to target
im glad there's a semblance of an option in this game for "hate fighting this piece of shit? Dw stun them and use them to damage others while they die too!" And that's the beauty of ricochet
whiplashes being slithery bitches dodging my shield make me want to sepuku
cause without ricochet cacodemon would be even more annoying cause you can't help your NECESSARY tunnel vision
ricochet is the "you can tunnel vision for now" option
what does necessary tunnel vision mean
which is especially useful when this games target priority thing goes overboard
that u need to focus your everything on the cacodemon
focusing on one target too much and ignoring everything else
i mean thats just prioritization.
it comes from snipers in games only looking at one target through their scope, it ends up looking from the pov as a "tunnel vision"
not really, tunnel vision is a detriment bc it implies a lack of spatial awareness
i know what tunnel vision is but calling it necessary sounds weird
in that way it's kinda similar to the energy shield except balanced
for the cacodemon and arachnotron its necessary many times (especially those fucking mines)
oh yea the mines
like not killing the arachnotrons fast or first in many encounters can determine if you die or not
if i see an arachnotron you betcha i'mma be shield bash ssging them as soon as i get the chance
those mines WILL destroy your shield, leave you with low health and keep you completely vulnerable to anything else in the arena
at least their not tanky at all, even the armored variants
i mean you can just rotate and dodge them.

and the armored variants actually have a parryable attack so i can activate the blue sword rune and kill everything else
More than once in my playthrough before this one I was fighting a Super Heavy, got mines thrown in my face, shield died, I was at low health and the super heavy got free hits in
some of the fastest deaths I've experienced in this game came from the arachnotrons mines
one time i was playing seige part 1, shield bashed one guy and he threw a wall of mines and I died instantly
mostly happened to me in reckoning
mines are just too powerful in comparison to so many other damage sources it's pretty ridiculous
dont mines only blow up over time? ive never had one instantly explode on me
If i refuse to kill them they will either deny an entire part of an arena or basically leave me with 5 health and no shield out of nowhere. The game begs me to kill them first

The cacodemon is a different problem, I tunnel vision them bc I hate having to wait for their invulnerability wall attack bs to wear off
i can totally turn away while they do it but that's just lame
acolytes are the worst offenders though, forcing me to play hide and seek

yeah cacos if they do the wall just go do something else. i see purple and i just take it as a free moment to go kill half the other arena. its basically a "im going to be completely unthreatening for the next 8 seconds" and i get to forget about them until its done
acolytes are annoying as hell and even when i shield stun them i swear they still teleport away sometimes

Atlan missions are always pretty short so I hope we get a longer Atlan mission at some point in the DLC

I liked the Old One bossfight a lot, probably one of my favorites in the whole game so far

What can you even do with the dragon in the ripatorium
i like both but the atlan is the only one that could realistically work
and even then the atlan has only like 3 unique enemies

I liked the Old One fight but besides that I felt like it wasn't engaging me
it was just like, why am I not in the main combat loop right now
the dragon felt better 'cause at least I had to think to navigate and hunt secrets (and most of its levels actually have the main combat loop too so I'm never far from it)
in both cases I didn't really gel with the mechanic of charging up attacks by dodging. It's not that it's hard it's just like... why are you locking my power fantasy behind defensive play?

And the symbolism that the best defense is also the best offense
As you get a powerful attack for blocking/dodging/Defending
the shield is great because it's a defensive play that's also offensive in the same move
but on the mech and the dragon the two aspects just feel disconnected to me
i mean if u dont parry ur shield runes dont trigger, if u dont dodge on the dragon then u dont get more powerful attacks
Dodging gives a more powerful attack/charges them, same idea done in a different way
The DLC weapon appears to be doing a similar thing
I don't really feel like it's rewarding me for a dodge, more like I just randomly have a new attack after doing it. It just doesn't feel like a logical connection to my brain.

I think part of what bothers me might be how the game is trying to tell a more immersive type of story than the last two but the dodge->reward feels so video-game-y that it pulls me out of it a little
like I don't think it would've bothered me as much if it was in Eternal
if anything i feel like the story is the least immersive personally, its just expanded with alot more characters and things going on

I don't know if it makes for a very good pace breaker when there isn't much variety in the guys you fight. The cast of atlan enemies just consists of large guys with big hammers that sometimes wear armor and shoot lasers, and one boss. At that point it's just "look guys look it's the part where you punch the big guys" and not much else, I think it deserves to be slightly more interesting

The DLC gonna be open, but not open world.
The hub it gonna be used to travel between worlds(Maps).
when you progress in world you unlock spawn points, if you want to teleport back that world in Specific area to unlock more stuff.

not necessary, unlock stuff after the main story I think it bad idea if they make it like that, I would say something like need a key to unlock something, but you find that key in different map, you got the key and you use the hub to back to the that map to unlock it

I had theorized that the Kreed's ship will have a war table of sorts (pictured in the rough mockup below) that starts off with a few unlocked regions and opens up more as you complete the extraction objective in each region.
In this context a "region" would essentially just be a level that's presented as a physical location on a larger map instead of a chapter on a selection menu

I personally enjoy dark ages a little bit more than eternal because of how the combat lets you get close and feel like you're actually brawling with the guys
my favourite so far of the modern trilogy for sure
depends on your preference. i prefer TDA
Eternal has the fast paced, hectic gameplay with a refined gameplay loop to follow while TDA is more focused combat. focuses more on fighting the enemy rather than spamming the every living shit outta them
I definitely like it more than Eternal but I don't know about "better"
It's more grounded than Eternal for sure - but at the same time, that's a low bar to clear
and there's definitely some kind of proximity to Classic Doom in its level design that I feel Doom Eternal simply does not have
this is because of the movment
you can't really have good Eternal level design if it's designed like a classic level, while in TDA the design matches classic games due to the lack of verticality and lack consistently high movment speed
the best eternal arenas play with the movement presented to the player, aka arenas with multiple floors, verticality and many hallways/walls preventing every enemy from shooting you or fighting you at once unless you specifically go for the more risky open areas
a good example of this dichotomy in level design is world spear, which has mostly flat, classic/TDA like arenas that by design end up being pretty basic and not flowing in any interesting way with the presented gameplay loop of Eternal (aka lame)
at the end of the day I prefer Eternal and this is one of the reasons outside of the movment, the arena design that caters to said movment at it's peaks is way more sophisticated than TDAs flat open arenas. Thankfully these work in tandem with TDA's gameplay and that's why in truth i have not many problems with them, I just prefer the Eternal arena design

Ehh i'm not exactly sure but let me try and explain it in more detail, i've noticed that if you have a mace charge and the respective upgrade, upon parrying you gain a temporary second mace charge, but i've noticed you gain it after a short delay instead of as soon as you charge and i've been wondering for the longest time if it's something intended
It's like a decaying charge, it goes away if unused after about 5 seconds?
The melee charge icon below your reticle even turns yellow for the duration
Ahh yes yes, It is indeed very short! Probably due to balance, for instance the Gauntlet 4th charge lasts like a whole minute+
2 Dreadmace swings can kill Almost every demon

I agree, the current duration is on point in my opinion, however there's a slight delay after you parry to obtain the second charge and i'm wondering if it's intended?
The Gauntlets have the same issue, so could be intended or an accidental bug
Oh i wasn't aware the gauntlets also suffered from it, maybe it is accidental
It has led me into some frustration moments where i'm trying to sync the swing animation with the "delay" of the riposte charge and it's easy to miss the timing
So then you lose the charge and have to either get a melee pick up or you have to parry enough times for it to charge, and personally i like to abuse the riposte as it sort of circumvents the downtime in a way
I think it's worth using if you know how to properly take advantage of the double swing upgrade

I like to use the flail in order to nuke enemy armor and still have uses after
which is why the dreadmace is cool but given the quantity of armored enemies in the late game I just use the flail
Combat shotgun + flail + ground fissures are one of my favourites too
I like to use the electrifying rune a lot because firepower usually isn't a problem
but if I can prevent other demons from attacking me while I focus on a superheavy I'm all for it

And the ammo takes a split second to bounce towards the player
But yes, the extra charge is meant to decay for the mace

He agrees to help Thira with the forge, tries to save her from being taken to the cosmic realm, and even goes on a solo mission into the cosmic realm to save her and the Kreed
when does he not have a personality that particularly sticks out to you
And it should feel bad for him

the father directs him to the luminarium to retrieve his life sphere, he decides to screw that noise and resurrect the dark lord so that he can kill the demons' power at their source
ahzrak kills serrat, he doesn't waste time grieving, he kicks ahzrak's ass and rips out the heart from his chest, and immediately follows him to hell so that he can finish the job and not let him escape
as inconsistent as the lore is, the slayer himself is nothing if not consistent
and as far as emotions and vulnerability go, TDA already took that far beyond what either of the other 2 games did

From what we know, glory kills were primarily removed for two reasons: positioning and repetitiveness.
Your position (as in your exact location and the direction you're facing) changes to some degree when exiting a glory kill, which can have a surprisingly large impact on the moment-to-moment gameplay. This issue was mostly trivial in the previous two entries but supposedly had a much larger impact on TDA due to how much your positioning matters during battle.
TDA puts a significantly heavier focus on melee attacks and as a result includes a much higher amount of glory killing. During pre-release testing it was deemed that the sheer frequency of glory kills made them extremely repetitive and disrupted the flow of combat to some extent.
And that's why we have a more fluid unsynced glory strike system with optional traditional jump glory kills instead of an entirely synced system like in the previous games

Removing the glory kill system also made way for quicker gameplay and more in-depth melee combat than "press button funny animation." You sort of make your own glory kills at this point. Laying the beat down on enemies, waiting for that third strike stun, dodging as you melee or blocking and parrying any other enemy attacks. It's a lot more entertaining gameplay wise, as much as I love glory kills.

yeah I reduced the frequency of hell knights in favor of more battle knights
also increased the chances of acolytes, revs, whiplashes
and reduced the cyberdemon chance so I’d see more of the other superheavies
The siege 1 leader encounters spawning a Komodo instead of a cyberdemon is kinda funny
i completely removed acolytes
boring hide and seek
same for arachnotrons
i did leave chaingunners doe
i removed both imp stalkers bc of how easy they were, same for hell knights and normal pinky riders and subsequently increased the chances of other demons
also normal mancubuses
straight up removing stuff takes away from the enemy variety
Better to just decrease the chance of them appearing and increase other demons’
especially regular mancs since they’ve got a completely different attack than an armored manc
one thing im noticing is that the super heavies are always the same from the original level with little exception

Try reducing the chance for cyberdemons to 80%
I got a baron on the indoor space in the holy city level, that was funny
i left everything at default personally, only thing that bothered me were the acolytes in a couple places but other than that its been pretty good
But vagaries will always spawn same as vanilla
okay did most of what you suggested, my most hated enemies just have a small chance of spawning (10%)
Since they’re way larger than super heavies and are classified as behemoths
Ahhh you gotta play from a fresh save
The raw number of heavy demons at the beginning is quite low, so even the unbalanced randomizer won’t be very difficult
i usually just replay later levels

i just wish this game and eternal had a new game plus mode that just, made arenas adjusted to max power slayer so it would be easier to replay any level
At least eternal has a NG+ randomizer mod
Although I’m hoping Hugo and co do end up coming out with a master campaign for TDA
okay belly of the beast with this randomizer is fire
the stupid acid arena is way less stressfull without the stupid armored arachnotrons
how it feels to play the game without the parts of it you dislike

Cauze its one shoting Fodder on 50% Damage now (Indirect hits too)
And Staggering demons every hit

(Also the splash damage is 95% of the thing’s damage, so it should be able to take out groups of fodder anyways)

Ahzrak's Abyss should be fixed! (Please let me know if their are ANY other super Heavy demons aside from Komodo and Cyberdemons)
