David Levy made a Amazing Track that works great with the Kreed fight.... but thats it
David Levyās track was a concept. He likely didnāt play through the game, so I feel like his concept is kinda unreliable when trying to imagine what the rest of his soundtrack would be like. I think the track he made fits more with industrial-like atmospheres

I didn't understand if the behavior of arachnotron and armored variant differs
they have different attacks yes
armored ones send the dodgeable projectiles and the big arrow shots
instead of just the hitscan machine gun
so I started playing TDA and I have an issue with the game completely freezing. I can hear the audio but the game just freezes and I have to shut down my PC when it happens

i have had that happen twice on the resurrection boss battle and i have no idea why

i beat that game on UN and i still don't like the archville
well they're also right in some ways
his abilities are broken as hell, but he also goes down like a lil bitch
save for a few encounters or a handful of mistakes, the archviles in eternal are more than manageable even on nightmare without super weapons
those types of "kill them now before they make the arena a pain in the ass" type enemies. Easy to kill, boring af to play against, just a boring chore to kill them first before everything else

they seemingly encourage you to get close to them to get their armor off quickly, but simultaneously have these mines that deal a bajillion damage right next to them

it has happened to me twice that I don't kill the arachnotron first in these Super heavy and armored arachnotron encounters, the mines obliterate my shield and the super heavy gets free licks in that kill me
yeah chainshot is powerful but boring
the mines are more often than not an awareness issue
sometimes you can get shafted by the AI but that's more of a rare occurrence

im a big fan of getting either the surrounding heavies first and having solo fights with the super heavies, bit sometimes, especially with cyberdemons and aggadons i really wanna kill them first with melee

I don't feel like I have too much trouble with proximity mines and I usually take out armor with the ssg

but I also don't feel like I've had problems with mines while testing stuff like arachnophobia
since a shield bash, ssg blast, flail hit to break armor, shield throw to stun and then another ssg blast usually takes care of them in one smooth motion
but if you linger then yeah, they'll launch mines

a lot of people say The Dark Ages is way easier than Eternal and even 2016 even on nightmare but I got my ass kicked in a way similar to when I played Eternal for the first time

I initially started playing on ultra-violence but ended up going to hurt me plenty
I'd say it is easier but still is tough. One mistake can still make or break a run
it was easier for me, but itās also difficult to assess how much of that is just up to being more experienced
the thing about tda's difficulty is it can be a little more forgiving than 2016 and eternal because of the shield. you can alot of the time survive by blocking, parrying or stunning an enemy. in 2016 and eternal you just gotta move quick or you're dead

Specifically, in tight cases I've used Eternal's dev GUI to make transparent images of demons to use as images for my guide. I've done this basically by turning off world rendering, cranking down the FOV, and manipulating the lighting. Then erasing the blank background. Here's an example.

unrelated but i find myself at a crossroads, like Enhanced Ashrak is the better fight than the final one right? But its stuck behind a long Atlan level, which while fun is pretty basic. While reckonings boss fight is at the end of one of, if not the best stage in the game
i do find funny bc it's clear final battle is the climax and reckoning is the oddly realistic anti climactic "hunt down the bad guy at his absolute lowest as they run for their lives" which fits like a glove for Doom
like realistically, most bad people end like Asscrack did, without glory and trying to run away
reckoning truly encapsulates that feeling of "you're the boss here, they are running for their lives, there are no stakes their reckoning is inevitable and its you"
they both feel really good for different reasons
enhanced for the actual challenge, and reckoning for the victory lap satisfying power trip

especially if you do the berserk glitch and the fight lasts a lore accurate amount of time

Azhrak being so realistically washed in the face of the Slayer and him being painfully aware of the fact thus trying to avoid direct fights unless he's powered by the wraith god or whatever actually is really cool
makes him seem smart compared to multiple other Doom antagonists
bro knows exactly what he's doing/what his power level is
and lets you really feel powerful as the slayer AND makes the payoff of when you finally beat his fucking face in all that more cathartic

by the end its not just the realization that hes cooked, its the fact as the player you know he saw this coming from a mile away and did his best but it wasn't enough
This is the main thing that makes Ahzrak my favorite Doom villain, yeah. He's smart and knows what he can get away with.

I enjoy smart, competent villains who are consistently a few steps ahead of the protagonists. Ahzrak is almost always like this, a few steps ahead of the Sentinels, other than not initially knowing where to find the other half of the Heart of Argent. He succeeds in virtually every plan he has, other than Novik blowing up Aratum, and even then he immediately pulled things back in his direction by storming Teroth.
Ahzrak only truly starts to lose when he kills Serrat. After that it all feels earned - you're finally putting this asshole in his place, chasing him down, him relying on the Witch yet again and trying to beg you to stop during the fight. Apotheosis, the final boss song, captures the vibe perfectly in the sense of depicting Ahzrak's terror during the final boss.

And I mean actual terror. That's something else I enjoyed. Everyone jokes about Doom being like "lol it's a horror game but you're the monster," but nothing in the other games actually gives you this vibe. Other than during Glory Kills demons are never scared of the Slayer, they are more than happy to square up with him and get their asses kicked after.
With Ahzrak they went out of their way to depict him 1) cocky and confident when he's enjoying his enhanced power, and 2) genuinely scared and fighting for his life during the final fight.
It humanizes Ahzrak a bit; not in a way that makes him sympathetic, but something that makes him feel more grounded and realistic as a character.

The closest the series comes to doing this sort of thing is, kinda sorta, the Seraphim in TAG1. That's really it.

so when you storm hell to personally kick his ass and defeat him, he doesnt want to accept death and screams before he gets hit and its so satisfying
Another moment with a level of detail that just isn't in 2016-Eternal: his screams being of rage and hatred at first, but once the flail hits him the first time, they turn to screams of pain, and they suddenly stop entirely once the flail hits him a second time.

That scene felt real; like killing a human, albeit an evil one. They just didn't bother with that sort of thing before TDA. It's one of the things I love about the series.

I do genuinely think from a narrative standpoing Ahzrak's death was way more personal.
Hugo Martin I think said in one of his streams, someone asked "who has made Doomguy the most angry in the series?", and he answered very matter-of-factly, "Ahzrak." I don't like to put Hugo's statements on a pedestal but this is about the most accurate stream answer he's given IMO.
And I do think it provides a glimpse into how the Slayer is written, as well as Hell. It's a very simple answer with a surprising amount of illumination to it.
