It's gonna be HL3 situation here
It was such a fire game I enjoyed every second of it
samir u should go get that komodo displate in the meantime
I don't know what it looks like yet
me send rn
Sneaky sent a link but I can't use it
it looks like ur worst nightmares from what i heard
Like is there a pic
its a rectangle piece of metal with the komodo on it to sit in ur room and haunt u

No mancubus one
tbh its just the codex page
Ik but I'm appreciating the design
Just so cool
Too bad it has adhd and a rampant cocaine addiction
the slayer codex one would be peak
Ye brother that is like the complete opposite
Hm
but man i cant wait to get these man
REAL
im happy i bought the all in bundle but god damn gonna be almost a year
Ya, 2 days till next update i think!
next update?
They will give Monthly updates on how the Design process is going, mini's etc etc
among other things
aaah right i forgot
Best combat theme?
Best boss theme?
Best ambient?
infernal, hard to choose for the other two
Hm
Best ambient is cosmic sea imo
Best boss theme, from the ashes
Combat theme, unholy siege
For now, it always changes
into the void is the best imo the official ost just doesnt do it justice
Well we got youtube mixes
Exactly
And flacs from a select few
Spc hcs mix is my favorite i think
Which are higher sound quality
He has my fav unholy siege mix but besides that I usually listen to thedinosaurheretic
I should listen to that guys mixes more honestly but ive been into risk of rain music recently so it might be a little bit lol
Oh cool
You can prob import them into apple music or smt
I might try that actually
Yeah yeah
I would use lossless on spotify but the data usage is higher than im comfortable with i think lol
I just put on high quality, it's good enough
Apotheosis is nice too
Lawd have mercy this game died so fast in march😔
The game wasn't even out in March 💀

@young schooner how would you feel if thira once had a relationship with the slayer? How would you handle it in a way that fits the story? Without making certain people frustrated or mad? How would it have gone has doomguy, and what would you say to people who don't like thira at all and refuse to engage with her character
Forgive the specifics of it
Just gotta get your opinion on it
The people who really really hate Thira give me weird vibes, and I don't wanna be That Guy but I call misogyny on it because they'll come up with any excuse under the sun as to why she's an awful character who doesn't belong in Doom but it's all shit I think they'd excuse if she were a man.
"Oh my God we have to save this fucking person we don't care about..."
(looks at Samuel Hayden in Doom Eternal)
"How fucking stupid and she just orders around the Slayer like she's his boss."
(looks at Samuel Hayden in Doom 2016, and the Intern in TAG)
"She's such a Mary Sue."
(looks at the literal fucking main protagonist of the series)
Welp I'm trying my best but y'know
Do you have like a detailed explanation, on how you would like to see it handled?
Or how her character isn't as bad as some say
Bc I kinda would like your input
What I will say is I do not think there should be any plotline in the story where the Slayer is outright in a relationship with someone, because the Slayer, as a character, is meant to be tragic and not really capable of holding a human relationship like that.
But that's the Slayer. Doomguy is a different story.
Yes yes
Now, say someone is still on edge abt him as doomguy having a relationship
And saying that he shouldn't cuz he's a broken man or whatever
I do personally like to think Doomguy was in a relationship with Thira. I think there's evidence to support that idea, and I think there's narrative value in it as well.
-
The evidence: Eternal's Codex explicitly says that King Novik pulled strings to make Doomguy a Night Sentinel because he impressed him, despite objections from other Night Sentinels. It would make sense if part of his decision were influenced by Thira having a word with him. The Slayer's demeanor towards Thira in TDA is also already a lot warmer than with others - she's one of the only characters in the series he actually on-screen nods to or acknowledges in the affirmative, and his body language in Temple of Lomarith points to a level of care for her. Thira is also the only Night Sentinel in the story to trust and care about the Slayer as a person throughout the entire narrative; everyone else is either scared, indifferent, or needs convincing. They have past history.
-
Why I like the idea: The classic Doom games are not the Slayer's backstory. They're a prologue to his story. That is to say, when the Testaments and shit are talking about how the Slayer has been wronged by Hell and he's out for vengeance, it's not because of the classic Doom games. That's a part of it, yes, and he was traumatized by that shit long ago. But it's the fall of Argent D'Nur, and the loss of the Night Sentinels, that serves as the primary motivator in the Slayer's backstory as a figure of vengeance. The games consistently frame Argent D'Nur's fall as the big, mysterious thing in the Slayer's past that makes him so fucking pissed.
Does anyone have any artwork to show in the artwork channel it’s for a vote for my channel
Anyone?
Now, what that goes into: I disagree with the idea Doomguy's just meant to be a broken man by this point. Because the vibe I always got is that he was getting better. I think he was healing from some of his trauma and learning to cope with it slightly better, because now he had comrades to fight with, and a community he was a part of. Something bigger than himself that he wasn't forced into like Mars. These people are his family. I think if there was any point where Doomguy was beginning to move on from the loss of his family and Daisy and all that shit, it was here, when he was fighting in the Unholy Wars alongside companions who weren't dropping like flies.
Bro I got the same garf plush
And I think, put simply, Doomguy eventually being able to find a functional romantic relationship with someone, as part of what indicates him moving on, would make sense to me.
Yooooooo twinsies
Ye makes sense
And it heightens the tragic nature of his transformation. The subtext with TDA is that the Slayer, to the rest of the Sentinels, is a soulless Maykr weapon wearing the face of their former comrade, and it's fucking ghoulish to them. Only Thira, who knew him intimately, can look into his eyes and see that the person she knew is still there. She trusts him and knows him, and we can tell by his own body language that she still means a great deal to him. But the Maykrs have stolen his humanity. The Tether has traumatized him in a way that can't be undone, and the Divinity Machine has set him on a path that he can't stray from.
I don't see it as a love story and I don't see Thira as his love interest. I see it as a tragedy, where Thira serves as the only person who has faith that there's still some of this man left inside the Slayer, and despite that it isn't enough to undo what has been taken from him. She's just a part of this world, the culture of Argent D'Nur, that the Slayer truly loves but feels he can no longer truly partake in.
I don't care, that's fine.
Keep in mind I'm a crazy person, and I had these beliefs before Thira even existed as a character. I just headcanoned them as about Valen instead.
I just have to say I have no idea who you are but I'm absolutely fascinated by everything you're posting and have posted in the past
Ikr right he's awesome
Thanks! I appreciate that. If you are interested in more bullshit ramblings like this, #the-codex has my Doom lore guide pinned there.
...300 pages
Welp, that'll tide me by until I can afford TDA in 6 months' time
Yeah, it's an absurd page count and the next revision will only get bigger.
It's on sale on Steam.
I got an email from Valve taunting me about the sale, but I'm currently 4 figures in debt and doing 65 hour weeks to pay it off thanks to some unexpectedly high vet bills so being able to buy it any time soon is a definite no-go
I'm still naively holding out for a demo or a trial to tide me by until I can grab it, but I have a feeling that's a pipe dream
Probably so. Oh well. Hope you can pick it up eventually.
Ok m0no
Well it did not go through to the person I wanted to at all
Infact now they're angrier and said they might hang themselves
They're taking Doom way too seriously.
If you hear me say that, then you know it's bad.
Well they probably shouldn't be. As far as we know, canonically she's gonna fucking die within a few years after TDA's events, given she is never mentioned in Eternal's Codex.
I dunno man. People are really weird about this character specifically for some reason. Probably because she's one of like three female characters in the whole story.
- They won't. 2) I have enough faith in the writers by now that I'm not gonna freak out over entirely hypothetical plot points that I have no real evidence will happen. And even if it did, there's no evidence to assume it'd be dogshit either.
I think they've proven they mostly understand the Slayer's character.

The story of TDA's DLC according to Doom fans:
And now tney're saying him having a family was a mistake
I'm starting to get the feeling
This is samir asking on people's opinion about a plotpoint before they implement it into the lore
Because he works at id
I know it

We're onto you
It's an incredibly minor plot point, honestly.
Like it isn't important at all. Just like Daisy wasn't. It's a retroactive detail to go "oh so things were even more fucked up than we thought." But they are not relevant to the modern games at all beyond another bit of trauma to pile onto the poor guy.
Ok well
This person clearly has some issues
Frankly they're immature
My head hurts
Do they by any chance say that 2016 is "the peak of Doom and was never replicated again". Extremely common pattern with these people.
Er
They do like 2016
They loved every doom game
And first doom movie which wasn't that bad
And doom 3 which I really like aswell
Currently playing Roe
glad to know that pattern recognition algorithms are working
my only gripe with Thira is that her concept arts looked cooler than final design
yeah, badass
In regards to Thira as a character I think she's fine. She's not a favorite of mine and I wish her whole Wraith thing were explained more. But I don't dislike her. She's alright.
Thira could've been fine if she wasnt scrapped like that. She feels like a cardboard cutout that is only defined by her status, magic and of how good she is to the slayer. I would say "to us" but they failed to connect the slayer to the player due to how they approached story telling, which kinda fell behind the, let's call it, doom's legacy, which is, AT FIRST that slayer-player connection. immersion. call it whatever you like. I hate that i paid 80 dollars to play a game that revolves around the character that was introduced like that, spoon fed and forcefully so, making her 'important' in every event... even in that half a page codex text about serrat. because we wouldnt have serrat if holy thira didnt allow it. 🙌🏻 I wanted to play a doom game, yet it only felt like doom during Harbor of Souls. Obviously it was not because of the gameplay, but because of the way everything played out "personal" for me and how lonely it felt. Even more lonely than during cosmic realm levels, where we, technically, are very alone and confused as a player (and the slayer).
That being said, i also think that in all that... amalgamation of scrapped ideas, tda tried something, and pushed itself into trying too hard on being... too serious. i guess? which brings us back to the harbor of souls where we get like THE FIRST AND ONLY "slayer-thing" that he does and that is shooting the "Charon".
I might have more on this but rn it's what it is.
I don't really think the game revolves around Thira at all. I'd say it revolves around the Slayer. Everything in the game to some degree has to do with the central tenet of the Slayer being an alien to his people and having to regain their trust.
Hey, who can I talk to about a really subtle but game ruining bug with TDA?
To add to this, no Thira is not one of the 3 female characters ever. Granted she is in the 'nudoom' games. There were female characters before her, in other games and other media. I wished that she wasn't a magical warrior princess that somehow turns "damsel in distress but not really" (regardless of what Jewel said in her video, I still think she's damsel in distress and, VERY ODDLY, defined by how good she is to the slayer, again. I would respected the character more if she was someone regular that braved her way through odds, because that is what doom was supposed to 'promote' if you will - BRAVING THROGH ODDS.
Also could add more and talk forever on this.
I also, like, I dunno - I think the game was full of "Slayer moments."
- Hearing the screams of dying Sentinels as the thing that breaks him from the Tether's control.
- Hopping in that Atlan and saving Novik's ass from Ahzrak with the awesome one-liner.
- Staring at the Kreed long enough to make him think he's gonna live before shredding him in half.
- Finding the will to get back up and keep fighting after seeing Serrat die.
- Him staring at Ahzrak and brutally killing him in a scene that viscerally emanates the man's rage.
- Him throwing Ahzrak's head to the demons to send a personal message to them.
These all feel like moments that absolutely feel like the Slayer.
If anything TDA feels like the game with the most Slayer moments. This game feels like it is the closest the modern games have gotten to embodying the Slayer's true character, instead of just having him aura farm and punch shit.
The little glimmer of hope he gave Kreed before killing him was absolutely brutal lol
I'm agreeing with m0no in that statement, TDA felt like it was to do more with the Slayer than any other character in my personal opinion
it was so brutal but my god i loved it
Yeah like - I'm not gonna pretend Doom 2016 isn't great, and I'm not gonna pretend its style and tone weren't instrumental to Doom's modern success. It's fun. But I far prefer TDA's style of storytelling. The whole "lol the protagonist doesn't care about the plot, why should you?" thing is fun for a bit but I like that the series is taking itself more seriously and engaging with its characters more.
AGREEEED, thank you!!
My favorite cutscene in the franchise is Serrat's death. It is a fantastic scene that tickled the part of my brain that is so fixated on Doom's story, and you can't really have moments like that in a story like Doom 2016. TDA gave us a lot more to chew on with the Slayer's character.
plus it like introduces on more of the Slayer's rage towards the demons in TDA which is what i love, and the fact that it explains it better too
This is also why I preferred Eternal's story over 2016's. 2016 is way better told and a more coherent story, but Eternal adds a lot to the setting and narrative to let you think about and analyze. Doom 2016's protagonist is kind of just a deconstruction of the typical boomer shooter hero. Eternal, IMO, is what made him a true character by giving him more scenes with actual personality traits, and also by tying him into the original Doomguy.
I somewhat disagree.
Hearing screams was indeed a Slayer moment, but at that point I didn't feel like the Slayer, but like I'm eating popcorn in the last row of a movie theatre. We already know he reacts on 'innocent lives lost' the way he reacts. It was established. Good to be reminded, tho.
That awesome one-liner, now, felt like a lost opportunity. I HATED IT cuz it made no point other than make it sound like a "run meme". The "No" at the end of TAG2 had a punch. It was a statement. a final word by someone who doesnt speak, and WHAT A WORD. and to whom. at what moment? "Run" is just... meh. Not to mention than by warning Novik (that was supposed to be a point) he allowed Ahzark to escape because he alerted him too. Which is fine, its an innocent life, slayer doesnt take innocent lives.
Staring at creed was cool. Ngl. We knew what the answer was. But it was a movie-like-suspense as if we would even think he would even consider it lol.
Killing Ahzrak is cool. Not gonna talk about that more. Same as head.
But it still didn't feel like it was 'most slayer' or sould i say 'most doom'. YES OF COURSE the slayer is in the middle of things. because he carries the game. because the world built around him would crumble without him both ingame and irl... nobody cares about the doom game without doomguy, regarldess of some fans would say.
Eternal's such a messy plot but it has everything that made me love this franchise's universe. The Maykrs, the Sentinels, the retroactive tying-together the whole story, the increased focus on fantasy shit. Very cool.
2016 did a good job by making every (albeit limited) cutscene be in first person
Although in eternal I did get the feeling like the slayer was more a participant in the plot events rather than being the focus
Goodnight.

"Run" felt off to me at first but I like it more after a replay. That line is meant to be the climax of the first act of TDA. It's not meant to be a meme or whatever and it's not just for cheap style points, this is the Slayer communicating something important to Novik that he hasn't been able to yet- that it's him, Doomguy, saving him. Not the Maykrs. He is not acting as a tool of the Maykrs anymore. He is acting of his own free will, and despite Novik selling him out, the Slayer is choosing to do the right thing and defend his king.
You're iffy on Thira's connection with the Slayer, but I would argue Novik is more important to him than Thira is. Novik is his king. The Slayer entirely and undoubtedly respects him, to the point he kneels to a mere apparition of him in Eternal. The motherfucker doesn't give Hayden a passing glance, but he kneels to this man. When he's in silent suffering inside that casket, and he awakes in 2016, it's Novik's words he remembers to reinvigorate him. And in TDA, when he awakens in Hell, it's Novik's words that give him the strength to get back up.
Novik is a true warrior. He's a respectable man who fights and dies with the men he commands. That's important shit to Doomguy, and even though Novik sold him off to the Maykrs it wasn't enough to take away that respect.
I don't know if you've seen Lord of the Rings but Novik's character heavily reminds me of that series, and how Aragorn's status as king is treated.
"I would have followed you, my brother. My captain. My king."
I wouldn't be surprised if LOTR were an inspiration for this dynamic and how they depict the Slayer's reverence of Novik. It reminds me a lot of that.
nobody said that protagonist doesnt care about the plot and that we shouldn't either? what is that even? i do hang out on reddit much, so i understand where that is coming from, but no, this is not what i was talking about. it's much more deeper than that. in doom's long legacy, slayer and player are one. they should be one and go through shit together. and at the same time, slayer has these small bits of characterization, enough to intrigue us, enough to tell us about him, but scarace enough to keep him a mystery. this is a thin and yet fine line id team has to walk and so far, they walked it perfectly. this is the way you keep a mystery. you build a myth... and since that myth is already built, it evolves. if this wasn't the thing, we wouldn't have these discussions. we would just devour the 'lore' from the game like we'd do with mass effect (which is awesome btw in its own right) and move on with our lives. the inspiration wouldnt last for too long, is what im saying.
The way TDA story is executed, tho... dunno if its about the 'story' itslef or the cinematics, but I really felt like im playing just some random cool game with doom skins. And im not saying i want an awesome story. I think exposition story works fine with doom because its that type of game, and i think tda is pretty solid on that... but it felt odd. And, again, i didnt preorder my game to feel odd playing doom. so what went wrong?
okay from that pov it does have weight, but i still think youre thinking too much into it. it just feels out of place to me. granted there wouldnt be a way for slayer to alert novik but it couldve been winged differently
Okay, so I will respond to that first thing but I want to say that with narrative analysis I just don't believe in "looking too much into it." That's one thing for, like, lore theories or trying to explain the biological function of an Imp's pinky finger or some shit. But when it comes to narrative analysis you cannot go too far - the depths you will go only show how much the story has pulled you in. And I think Doom invites the people who really care about its narrative to inspect shit like that.
This i wont argue because I agree. However I will add that noviks apparation kind of, whats the word, puts him down for wanting to save Earth, another version of the planet he came from.
"Its not yours to take", "They are your people no longer" (its when he just does what he does) " you are but one man" and blah blah I forgot what comes after, but it kinda made me raise an eyebrow at Novik because - dont we as the player want to save Earth?
Part of this with Novik is to show how hopeless things are on Argent D'Nur. When Novik says that - "they are no longer your people to save" - the Slayer looks back incredulously, and I think most interpret it as anger. But I see it as shock, hearing someone he respects that much preach such cowardice. But, of course, 1) the apparition isn't truly Novik but either a holographic copy, or a ghost, and 2) Novik was overthrown by the Deag and watched as the men he fought with died. He watched the Sentinel empire fall. The dude wouldn't have any hope left. When you see how fucking badass and stalwart he is in TDA, you can contrast it with Eternal and see just how bad shit got.
My dude, ofc i care about the narrative. I wouldnt want my childhood game and hero to turn into a slop story. That's why Im so pissy about TDA. I dont hate-hate it... But it's just... not. It seems like its rolling downhill, weather because of the 'immersion lost' or the story or world building or just the way it was told... If it doesnt click like doom i am going to say it. And it doesn't.
didnt interpret it as anger on slayers part either. but it was on mine. cuz how dare you spirit man! ✊🏻
I'm not saying you said this. I'm saying Doom 2016 says this. 2016 presents its plot with the blatant and overt theme that the Slayer gives zero fucks about explanations for what is going on, and is focused solely on killing whoever's responsible and stopping it from happening again. That's fine, but this results in a few problems that hold back 2016's plot in comparison to the other games:
- Olivia Pierce is an intensely interesting character who does not get nearly the focus she deserves. As a tragic villain whose physical disability and chronic pain was exploited by Hell to twist her into their acolyte, that is a fucking awesome idea and I love what it sets up, but 2016 simply isn't willing to step outside the Slayer's POV long enough to show that perspective beyond the Codex.
- I would argue the same of the Aranea Imperatrix, who has a very cool concept going on with how she's supposed to work, but ultimately gets very little presence in the game itself, and what presence you could argue is there is retroactively explained to be Davoth instead.
- 2016 never even leaned into the Slayer being Doomguy. It was so vague on the subject that for years many people in the fandom thought he was the Betrayer. Ultimately it was Eternal to actually confirm this. 2016 wasn't willing to actually firmly step into an explanation because the Slayer himself was written very late into production, and the campaign already seemed to not have much faith from executives given much of it is shamelessly pulling from Doom 3.
Who says 2016 never leaned into slayer being doomguy? it was like... right on the nose. o.O
But I agree that 2016 didnt plan the whole thing that goes on in Eternal and TDA.
It maybe implies it a bit, but nothing concrete is stated. There was just as much evidence to suggest he was the Betrayer. If you only take 2016 into account, then there were a lot of problems with the theory that Eternal ended up addressing.
I, ALSO, very much liked the epic about the 5 sentinel warriors that followed the slayer to hell and died, so their ghosts appear to him. Kinda reminds me of 40k's Grand Master Vorth Mordrak.
WHICH, can bring us to ANOTHER reason i am really not fond of getting thira shoved down my throat, because I was expecting this to build up throught the campaign. I was hoping to see these guys that are mentioned in eternal codex, but, i didnt expect the story to feel like... a filler to... interaction, if you catch my meaning.
For me 2016 feels like... like the most vanilla Doom game. Sometimes to a fault. It sometimes feels like it is so vanilla Doom that I get a bit bored 2/3rds in because by that point I've seen what the game has to offer. Most of its plot is pulling directly from Doom 3 (and not always improving it... see Betruger, the UAC's intricate backstory, Hell), so the most unique part is the Slayer himself. And he's awesome, obviously, but everything I love about the Slayer is stuff Eternal and TDA were more overt in presenting, other than VEGA being backed up and 2016's iconic intro.
Which, for the record, I will happily criticize 2016's story forever, and I think it's very overrated. But the intro remains the best intro I've seen in an FPS ever.
There's nothing to be criticized about the story of 2016. its there to do things and make you press forward, and as such its perfect, but its not the best thing ever. For the best thing ever, we should play something else, I think? Like Spec Ops: The Line had an amazing story lol. Mass Effect. Silent Hill. What else?
But yes, the intro was the best by far, with TDA coming at the last place because, for me, it was TOO LONG.
ph no that part is amazing. if it was from THAT part it would've been great.
But the way it goes on and on and on...
Lazaaarr
... and on.
Its not that long tho
and oooon and on.
its there to do things and make you press forward,
That's kind of my issue. When it comes to Doom, IMO we can leave that mindset back in the 90s where it belongs. I value narrative in my games, and I don't expect the best thing ever (I'm a Doom megafan, but the whole franchise's story combined makes up maybe, like, a third of the quality of a story like Silent Hill 2) but what I do expect is a story where you can tell the authors are confident in their vision, care about their universe, and want to do it justice.
2016 does not give me this vibe, which is fine, they were still ironing things out. It feels much more safe, like they needed to prove Doom still has a place in the modern age.
But Eternal and TDA do. They are very concerned with fleshing out the Doom universe, and the Slayer, and his story as a whole.
I don't need an entire history book and, like, turning Doom into The Last of Us or Metal Gear Solid or some shit. The gameplay is objectively still the most important thing.
But I do value and look for a reason for the gameplay to mean something.
The gameplay should be elevated by the story, and vice versa. IMO TDA has a lot of great moments with that, mainly Enhanced Ahzrak, which is the best fucking boss in an FPS game fucking ever, and how it's such a difficulty spike correlating with how bad things have gotten in the story.
Lazarrr
Enhanced Ahzrak is so cool, i died many times because of my greed , trying to break the spikes to get hp and armor
It's a cinematic masterpiece in every way possible
I really like how it got way easier when Doomguy got pissed at him
It’s less than 5 minutes lol
Fr lmao
Plus it’s entirely skippable
Wolf 2’s intro cutscene was about 100x more egregious
For a campaign that likely will take you 15 hours on a first playthrough, I don’t think 5 minutes is a ridiculous ask for an intro
I watched my brother play TDA and that's how it went for him. He struggled the first two phases, died probably 15 times. Then Serrat dies, and he sits up in the "oh shit now I need to lock in" position and he beats the third phase first try.
This is an example of incredible melding of gameplay and narrative. It's the true final boss of TDA, and in that regard it outclasses every other boss in the series by a mile. It's absolutely fantastic and probably the high point of the whole series for me.
Lmao
The neat stuff is that before Serrat's death and Doomguy got angrier and all which led to the 3rd phase, Doomguy was adapting to the offense of Azhrak as we can pick up from the Glory Strike anims from phase 1 to phase 2
The fact that the third phase has the slayer’s theme song instead of ahzrak’s is just the icing on the cake
I agree
Defeating Ahzrak solely using your fists is very cathartic
It's like Doomguy was eventually gonna beat Azhrak but Serrat's death made it even worse
I do personally believe the Slayer would have died if Serrat hadn't.
Diagree. As a doom 'megafan' as well for a lot of years, I wouldn't want an interactive novel out of my game. The story is fine as it is. just needs more work in execution, yes, but it shouldn't be elaborate because, again, that would kill the 'mystique' if you will. the myth that kept the franchise alive for like 32 years and... we wouldnt have these conversations! I dont go into fast-paced shooters and ask for Dostoevsky. Why would you? Or do we, like, pick a survival horror and replace survival with action (yes, im looking at you, resident evils). Do we add a shotgun into Outlast Trials? Do we play games cuz of prestige or because we love them?
And im not yapping here because I hate doom or you or whomever. I just want DOOM to expand enough, and still preserve it's relevance and connection to everyone. Because, at the end of the day, the more ppl buy - the better for the studio and the title.
Yeah what you wrote here. I missed this line. But also I think that doom univesre is... well a product of 30 years of doom. xD
I dont think it will bode well on its own. like i said. doom universe is doomguy.
I think I should rephrase what I said. What I meant is that we can pick up how Slayer was adapting to Azhrak's moveset from the GS animations in phase 1 and phase 2. Yes if Serrat hadn't come to save him, Azhrak would've killed him but it's still great to see that Slayer was learning Azhrak's fighting style and all
I'm eating orange slices
There's a middle ground between "we don't care about the story" and Dostoevsky. If I were asking that from Doom, it would be a lot more intellectual than TDA. I don't need shit like that from Doom. Like I said, I just want the feeling that it's in a universe the writers care about, want to expand on, and want to tell stories worth giving a shit about in.
To make a comparison, I think a good series I'd point to is Resident Evil. RE isn't exactly known for its narrative excellence, plenty of the stories are full of weird contrivances or shitty voice acting or stupid lines. But with every game you can tell they care about Resident Evil's universe, and when they add onto RE's narrative it's often to reward fans who have stuck with the series for so long by giving them more of RE's setting to chew on. Resident Evil may not be a masterclass in storytelling, but it's a series that cares about its own story and knows fans do, too.
so apparently Doom can't have a story? Even Carmack retreated his statement years later
does Doom 3 count as a novel
Yes
What's better oranges or mandarins
Apples obviously
Oh screw you vega.
No, doom 3 is not a novel. Doom 3 has a right amount of things. All 3 new games do. What Im saying here is that THIS is OKAY from my pov, but it shouldn't like, go overboard like I see ppl asking for in this ... 'fan' community.
My man
I have more thoughts but need to run a quick errand.
When I mentioned RE i wasnt talking about story telling, but about how survival disappeared. They tried to revive it in RE7, but after that it remained... well, re. And not it is like it is. I like it, but it's a changed genre.
I moreso mentioned RE be cause of the shared similarity of it having a lot of games and a pretty intricate universe despite the individual stories not being all that special.
The narrative meat of RE isn't in the individual games, but the wider universe and cast of characters.
I have questions now. Where did you get these connections from? Or is this your headcanon? Because I do not see it like that. From the start she seems like she feels pity. Everyone probably treated him as a weapon and an animal. Hell, we even know he was arrested and fought the arenas, to death. Why in the world would king allow his only daughter to approach such a "thing"... And isnt that like, a Spartacus kind of a trope already. Doesn't even help her character buildup either, it DEFINES HER, again, in relation to the slayer, which is... what? That's what powerful female characters are for? 🤷🏻♂️
Part of this is going off of me explaining my beliefs as to their backstory, so some of that message is theory/opinion.
You can interpret how they treat each other many ways, but I mainly have always interpreted Thira's treatment of the Slayer to be someone who is choosing to treat him like a person when no one else will, extending compassion to him simply by trying to engage with him and treat him like a warrior instead of a death robot like everyone else. As far as my own beliefs go I do think that stems from her having an intimate connection to him when he was a normal human and was capable of something like that.
Wasnt that Valen's role in Eternal codex? Somehow I feel like we replaced bromance with the a trope. That honestly doesnt belong in doom.
In regards to the king/daughter thing, I don't really think Novik decides anything for Thira beyond military-wise as her king and her as a commander of his. She seems pretty independent.
Also by virtue of being a Night Sentinel she should be strong and skillful enough to hold her own in a fight against some random Outlander in the colliseum. If she couldn't, she wouldn't be fit to be heir to the throne, much less a Sentinel warrior.
Valen is shown in the Codex to have trained Doomguy when he became a Night Sentinel, and fought alongside him. Beyond that, we don't get much about their relationship beyond the cutscenes indicating they are familiar with each other and have a shared history.
I also just do not see why a romantic relationship existing as a barely-implied element of two characters' backstories does not belong in Doom. That doesn't really have anything in conflict with any of Doom's central themes and cornerstones. I would argue the games have already introduced things more antithetical to Doom's identity than that.
This whole thing feels like an intrusion. But okay, i guess. I wholeheartedly disagree with history of a relationship, or, whatever. I dont think a human who goes through that shit he went through would be able to fight till death (and somehow survive every time), get thrown out in the front lines, and survive, only to be put in a divinity machine and made a tool. everything that happened to him, prior, is a layer on the tragedy, and witnessing all that, surviving events of d64 and wondering hellscape to the point tht he's speaking gibberish when found by the sentinels... I dont think there's anything THERE for him to form with her. Maybe respect. But other than that, nah.
it can exist. only not like this. its not relatable to the player.
the family photo is hated by many fans. i like it, cuz it gives me a dramatic imput, but its different from thira because we never get to meet his wife and kid. they are just that. a photo. nothing else.
so we can still relate.
I think making everything about the Slayer relatable to the player is a mistake and results in bland, boring protagonists. I don't need the Slayer to fully embody my life. If he did, he wouldn't be able to move that fast for more than half a minute hahaha. But I'm not in this to look at the Slayer and go "that's just like me!" I'm in this to appreciate fictional characters as their own characters.
and i would also hate the '2nd chances' arc because it kinda makes the whole thing... less. 🤌🏻
I can say Im like the slayer and still be myself. xD
Its the 'thin line" i mentioned before. give just enough to intrigue and keep the rest a mystery.
For instane. I LOVE that family photo. Because I relate to family values. I would go on a vengeful spree if my family was devoured by demons (and probably die in my first attempt but thats not the point). But I know its not relatable to everyone, so, I would rather that it is left out, along with all other possible 'drama'. Keep it clean.
But if im to choose bethween family photo and 2nd chances, I'd pick the photo anytime.
I dunno if I make sense. Its 6 am.
Halo fans when Master Chief is now able to sprint so they no longer can relate to him
LOL
My thing also is I don't need them to not add things because players may not relate to the character. You should be able to relate to a character in spite of differences.
Me fr
I mean okay. I guess we'll see what happens and how it plays out. Maybe I reconsider buying the next game. Maybe I preorder it deluxe again. We'll see. All in all is that... I dunno family ftw?
I'm just making fun of the whole "relatable character" thing because characters don't have to be relatable to be enjoyable as characters lmao
I'm not a Marine, I don't have a wife and child. I'm not a mega badass sci-fi fantasy warrior. But I can find the Slayer's struggle to move on from traumatic bullshit relatable. I can also relate to the idea of feeling alienated from people you love and struggling to regain their acceptance.
Other things, like finding the will to keep moving after the loss of a loved one, or the melancholy feeling of mourning a place that was once dear to you, IMO are universal struggles that anyone could relate to.
I dont see "moving on" as a thing for Doomguy or the Slayer. Its HEALTHY but its lame. Lol. For the game I mean.
Slayer is just a buffet of tragedy, that's how I look at it
Pick and choose your trauma
He's went through it all
I think part of the beauty in stories like this is likening such heightened fictional scenarios to real life. The Slayer can be likened to real life as a revolutionary; a rebel who sees injustice and weaponizes the rage he feels because of it. In real life you can see that in events like Stonewall, or the riots following Martin Luther King's assassination.
Maybe a bit unhinged to compare Doom to these serious IRL things. But you see my point. I enjoy stories where you can look past the game-y exaggerated shit and find a very human struggle that a normal person can understand.
Pretty much, we also have a very unhealthy problem of people taking Daisy meme too seriously and making it the central point of Slayer's rampage, it's hilarious.
that was my point. universal stuggles and standing against the odds and pushing through.
And i understand why you talk about "moving on", its the same reason why im talking against it. Because FOR YOU moving on might be relatable, but for me death of a spouse and child is the end of the line. Like Berthal's punisher. There's nothing left.
But then again I'm like this and you're like that.
But muh bunyy it went squeek
I don't really think he can move on. I mainly mean the struggle to move on. The story where the Slayer cannot really move on, but must find the small victories that still make moving forward worth it.
But even then I wouldn't say I like the idea of Doomguy healing from his trauma a bit pre-Slayer because it's relatable. I like it because it's really interesting and makes the tragedy a lot more tragic. And deepens his connection to the other Sentinels.
I dunno man, I lived through bombing like it was a joyride, simply because I played Doom. So... i use this "message" that is doom as a shit to cope. When shit hits the fan - doomguy wouldnt mind the smell. If you catch my drift.
Honestly I dont think he would even try, but let Hugo decide if he wants my money what he thinks about it.
NO SAMIR it was a metaphor.

In todays bideo, we're gonna look at the conthept art
From the uhhhhhh conthept art team
I weaaly. Weaaly, like thie conthept art from emerson tung tung tung tung sahur
ngl i need a shitpost series of these
Im gonna be a hypocrite because I said I would never speak this in a community. BUT...
In some pre-christian cultures, hares are considere messingers of the dead.
Now let that sink in?
Someone revive Oronoto's channel
You're probably looking too deep into it
I have always seen Daisy as more a representation of Hell's influence than something that genuinely horribly bothers Doomguy. Losing a pet is horrible and I'm sure it really fucked with him, but on the list of things that fucked with Doomguy's head in this series Daisy is quite literally at the bottom.
We all are looking 'deep' into it. The rabbit was there for 'lols' originally. With expansion of the story it's not anymore.
hey weird question but does anyone know where i can download the HDRI textures for the skyboxes in the Cosmic Realm?
Daisy is effective as a representation of innocence defiled by Hell. The actual rabbit herself does not matter.
which connects to "messinger of the underworld' because the innocence is dead. his life wife and kid lost. the hare is the message, and it's not really there blahblahblah.
she sure as hell matters to the people that think doomguy is driven exclusively by the death of a bunny and nothing more
What family
the Dead one?
In my classic Codex project I tried to write it as horrifying Doomguy because he gave Daisy to his son before he left for Mars, and his son said he wouldn't ever let anyone take Daisy from him.
So, you know, he sees Daisy dead, and his hometown on fire, and knows... yeah.

Posting it because fuck you I like this one. I'm bored. Whatever. Yeah
It is just really cartoonish and not in the badass way I think.
willing to bet that atleast half of the people who think that way are the tourists who never touched a Doom game before
Is this a headcanon too? Ah you said in MY classic codex. Well it is then.
Dont get me wrong i like this idea. I also like the headcanon that he collects toys cuz they remind him of his son.
Yes, this is a fan project where I wrote mockups for if the original Doom had a Codex like the modern games.
I posted the full thing on Tumblr. I will find it real quick.
But this is back to what I was saying - MYSTERY = HEADCANONS AND DISCUSSIONS
No need I know you're on tumblr. I have many eyes.
Hell yeah.
(I'll post it anyway.)
https://www.tumblr.com/m0nology/802465502614175744/what-if-doom-1993-had-codex-files-full?source=share
I made a post a while ago showing some mockups for if DOOM (1993) had an in-game Codex. Well, I finished the project entirely. It's 40 files total, and here they are, combined into big pictures for your leisure.
The general idea here is adding backstory and text to the original DOOM that fits its tone while also tying it into the modern games.
Transcripts and notes under the cut....
Yo sneaky I had an idea
Could the be called.. a Monologue
What if I animated funny memes
Whenever I see someone dickride Doom 2016 as the only good modern Doom game and they ruined everything afterward I activate my Professor X-or-whatever psychic powers to invade their mind and see into their past to confirm they never played any of the classics.
Similar notion: Doom 3 haters having actually finished Doom 3
Maybe the wanna know what they hate? I mean I finished TDA couple of times. I dont really hate it, buuuut I can live without it.
by the time i finished all of Doom 3 i actually wanted more
I'm loving RoE
Simmer down old man

Genius
I like that opening scene when the dude just comes and touches the artefact and everything but him burns. I like to call him "Stan" for some reason. Thatsa a stan thing to do.
Ikr

I actually just finished replaying it all. I've played 3 and ROE many times but just finished Lost Mission for the first time.
Love Doom 3 and love its style. I use some mods for it to lean a bit more into the survival horror, but I still love it. In some ways I prefer 3 over 2016. But yeah.
Haha you're old
You don't even need to do that because so many patterns they all follow, i learned to recognize those people at a glance
high schooler
Oh damn Howdy Katsu!
Ah so what
Atleast my kneecaps work
Sneaky if you ever have any ideas hit me up
wassup man
Anywya... Imma go. I wish we werent curious earlier and didnt pick on these headcanons. I wouldn't have stayed up till 6am. I wish you a good night and... may we never speak again, for all our sakes. ^^
will do goat
bro I'm 21
Ok gn
I'm not a certified unc yet
GoooooDAAAMN
Doom 3 was so good they had to make it again in 2016
You're nearing the end
Literally. And I'm sorry but 2016 didn't have that glorious Betruger VA or Bruisers.
Bruisers are GOATed as fuck by the way. They desperately need to bring Bruisers back in modern Doom.
Bruisers are like mini cyberdemons
By far my favorite Doom 3 enemy and unfortunately underused.
I want tiny cyberdemons
My dumbass didn't use artifact on them so i pushed through them with plasma gun lmao
I don't like the Artifact gameplay-wise. It makes everything way too trivial.
I really like the Doom 3 Rebalance mod - one of its best changes is making the Artifact only active for six seconds every use instead of 15. Makes it way more balanced and makes you have to think about when you use it a lot more.
Soul Cube was powerful but you also needed to kill first before you can disintegrate a single demon of choice and get health back. Heart of Hell was absolutely overpowered
i believe Siphon Grenades fulfil similar purpose in 2016
Soul Cube is fine and a fun mechanic. Felt like a cool weapon that makes you feel more powerful without invalidating the game's balance.
The Artifact, yeah, no. And it sucks because Bruisers fucking rock but they all show up after you have all the OP Artifact upgrades. So you can just cheese them all with it.
I want to explore more Doom 3 gameplay mods. But Perfected Doom 3 looks dumb.
can we have a soul cube as super weapon in dark ages sequel
Would go hard. I want it in a TDA prequel.
id. Make my Doom 3 Martian Hero Doomguy theory canon and make it a prequel. And I will give you whatever you want.
a man can dream...
Oh yeah I played on gamepad too at that since I was marathoning Doom games back in 2021
guys, i need to choose, doom the dark ages + doom eternal with year one pass, OOOR, doom the dark ages premium. I already have passed eternal with dlc's, i have an friend's account with it and dlc's, but i want to have it in my account, but considering that doom tda will have a dlc, i would like to have it alr, what should i do?
maybe it's better doom tda premium, also that i don't expend that much
tda dlc is likely not out for another few months, so depends whats more important to u, having eternal and its dlcs or having the dark ages dlc bought already now
Yeah, but i have been thinked, i will get another amount of money for like 3-4 of january, maybe i can buy eternal+pass
or another thing, that my mom have been saving another amount of money, maybe i use it for doom eternal
well you're in luck cuz the steam sale ends on the 5th!
yeah, that's why, i wanna buy it with that offer, am not spending on the original price 🥀
yeah i can understand it being a lot especially with regional pricing and allat, here its god damn 86 bucks
tda base game i mean
am from mx, that are like 1700 mxn
94 usd wtf
the eternal pass it's that, tda cost 1400mxn
ahhh right
just checked some of my notes from a while ago and almost 3 months ago they mentioned that they will add the ability to swim faster, i wonder if thats still coming or if they scrapped that
using shield to propel yourself in the water
could be a cool mechanic actually lol
The sawblades working as a turbine to propel you forward kinda like the seaglide in Subnautica 💀
chat, any idea why my screen goes brighter when I set the game's refresh rate to anywhere between 90-120?
like the gamma goes up or something
doesnt do it on 60 or 144 tho
VRR?
Rayman 3 vibes
could be, but why does that impact the brightness and such
Let's remind them of that when they return
They prob just forgot
they didnt forget about it when its something they mention that is coming
it wasnt suggested by chat
but like they said, they are slowing down on the updates because they are working on the dlc so its understandable
yh on the 5th of september that was
i think they are saving most big things for ng+ or dlc
iirc they did that last time no? saved up more things for one bigger update, i think that was update 2
yh but its more than that they are planning to add
they dont have to update that often, its a singleplayer game
and the frequency of major updates has been good imo
i wouldnt even mind if we dont get anything until dlc assuming its out sometime in the next 3-4 ish months or smth
hope ng+ is just the master campaign
thats exactly what it would be, yes
which would be a rework of every single level in the game with late stage enemies coming in the first levels
Sick. is it 100% confirmed?
I think this is a controversial thing, but I would like a little more then just different enemies in the earlier levels
Like maybe they do a bit more this time
idk u can go look at the clip i put on twitter and see how u interpret it
imo, yes, some people like cough Horde don't think its a confirmation
Horde is the news guy he's gotta give reliable news
how is that controversial
Because it requires them to do more
Like maybe add new enemy variants or weapon upgrades
But now it'd take much longer
"i want more than just remixed encounters, cancel me, idc 😏 "
Breaking ground with this one hato
if they are gonna do that its probably gonna incoporate dlc upgrades/enemies
which they did do with horde mode for eternal
Well then I would like ng+ after dlc
I wanna experience them in the dlc itself
so it isnt that far fetched, but exclusive enemies/upgrades for a master campaign doesnt sound feasible for them, though it would be dope as hell
looking through the Hato™ Official Doom News Hub and Damn a third of the dlc being innaccesible until after the dlc sounds so good
cant find the clip
wait nevermind
watching the clip yeah i dont think hugo was even aware of the question lmao
think he was busy solving the puzzle LOL
i love how hugo just says "yes" but u cant take anything he says at face value when he is so locked in on the game lmao
hahahaha yeah
josh did read the question and didnt deny it so i wouldnt know, but also i dont know how much he is in the know with the game development as opposed to marketing
but imo Josh's reaction makes it obvious, some ppl think otherwise somehow but idk
i think he knows a bunch lol
probably, he does stream with hugo and holds him back from saying too much lmao
"I think it could be out sometime in October or November." silly me
man i have no idea how the dlc is gonna be like. hope they release a trailer soon
What a goof
its cancelled, hugo said last stream that it wasnt fun and they are scrapping the dlc
ngl it would be a good thing if hugo did actually cancel it cause it wasnt fun. we dont want a doom 4 situation happening
no but he said i think like 2-3 months ago that it was fun, so if it was in a playable state where u could say its fun back then, then i think we getting close
Nah it was more a month ago
here i go again tryina predict when it releases
at least they're not working through a pandemic this time lol
He said it was fun like 30 times
See you can't escape it
You try, you try, but it leeches into your brain
ive been predicting mid feb for months now
You want it, you know you want it
we'll see how far i am this time
you know, it's highly likely to happen
i think its highly likely not to happen tbh
And I don't know anymore
We're dooming here but they're probably itching to press upload button on the trailer video as we speak
nah they're prob scrolling through the discord thinking we r going crazy
😔
Hugo's always lurkin'
hugo react with the 👀 emoji to this message if u see this
Nah he wouldn't do that
damn u know him so well huh?
Ye
im telling u, u are never beating the id software employee allegations
He would never

Nope I am not an employee
And you'll never prove it

id software secret police
they want to shadow drop it again i bet
lmao amazing gif

the wizards are back at it again, 10 MB holy
the slayer gets another polygon
No way that's it😭
just realised why does it say "in game purchases" the fk lol
it says that for the base game too
Isn't the ancient gods like 20gb or something? Isn't this one even bigger?😭
I wonder is it because if you don't have premium there's "upgrade to premium" and shit on main menu
Boiii 8 months for a skinpack🔥 🔥
maybe idk
we are so back

They really are wizards. God damn
nope, its 10 mb
TAG?
Yeah i saw that. But i'm tryna compare it to TAG
No vro yu don'r understand
We're getting the classic slzyer skin
8 months in the working

That's this dlc?
The dlc is 10 mb and the slayer skin is the extra 0.1 mb
TAG is 20mb 🤫
Before TDA came out they had its filesize listed as 300~ MB
Me with the dj khaled skin
so that means the dlc is about a level and a half 🥀
that’s the doom eternal combat dance
wooaaahh!
Hato for a conspiracy dude you're pretty not knowleadgable

All jokes aside it is pretty wild the DLC that exists just to validate your license is 4x the size of Knee-Deep in the Dead
So why does it say 10 mb
what jokes?
Where did you get this from hato
🤫
i have my sources
I need them to release that uncompressed 1 terabyte build of RAGE
-# It's because the DLC in the store is only a license and the actual DLC content is gonna be added to the base game via an update like with Eternal
because thats the actual file size, they just wanna troll people and make the game occupy 80 gigs instead
one whole ass TB? the fuck
Oh ok so file size and storage is different
Lmfao
Yeah Carmack said the raw development material makes up that amount
As in, like, all the textures and shit before getting squished down
Well I play games vro I don't study the file size or whatever
(i would hope so)
TDA does NOT have the filesize of three Hexen IIs
well better get to work then
Nuh uh
Lmao just saw someone notice smth cool
The logo on each artbook of the games in the modern trilogy is positioned according to the playstyle of each game
tda is on the bottom, 2016 in the middle and eternal on top
Very cool
Ikr very cool
Theres gonna be no logo on the artbook anymore cuz we gonna play as john cena
Idk what im even on about anymore
Fascinating
what is it? where to see?
There's gonna be a Hexen III logo instead #hexensweep
Actually that would be cool
Even though you would be on a diff level of stealth cuz no demon would be able to see you
Yeah imagine next game gonna be a stealth game
Stealth? That's pretty solid...
even doom eternal campaign dlc 10.12mb
Huh
xbox
^^^
The DLCs in the store are just unlocking access, the actual files are installed with the game (or in TDA's case, will be updated into the game later)
yes dlc in the store is only license and not ready to release yet
just like pre-download
Today's -35 C over there but Dark Ages warms my hands, literally
I can sense it...maybe they'll yap about the dlc in dev direct...
Goddamn show me the snow
I'll get you a good photo tomorrow
Just got home
melting your freezing and play doom the dark ages
I don't know if others have pointed this out here, but it seems like some of the weapon logs might be bugged, kind of like how the Battle Knight and Aracnotron logs were a while back.
I didn't get the Pulverizer log on a recent replay, and on a file I'm non now I didn't get the Pulverizer or the Ravager's logs.
you mean codex
same thing
Does anyone know when DOOM is gonna release DLCs yet? Been waiting for a peak story to come back again
We are only getting one DLC, not two
So I'm expecting at least another 5 or so months
(same dev time as the entirety of TAG)
It's funny tuning in daily for people asking the question about Doom's DLC status lmao
Ik, just funny how common it is
doom more like poo
Har har har
"poom"
the time is now
@harsh egret the 4th DOOM TDA Jacket has surfaced, and it belongs to Andrew Hulshult!!!!
Boi
holy shit
"Avoid the DLC"
"Focus on Playing the game first"

They cooked with Ahzrak's Lines ngl
Best doom villain
agree
Dark lord second bc he has cool lines aswell
And I actually liked tag 2's ending
I think it ties a neat bow with what we had
If only they could have ended tag2 on a cliffhanger so game after it would have mirrored 64 (70% of game is in hell)
just with couple of loose ends, i believe hell will break loose
Well idk how that's gonna happen
They'll make some bull excuse
"Oh hell has a poopy butthole backdoor that no one's used for 67 million years"
Boom, Doom maternal 2
they did bypass the barrier that urdak put on them 🤷
wasn't barrier annihilated by icon of sin
all is said that they bypassed it using witchcraft and stuff
im about to play eternal anyway hold on
When the Khan Maykr woke the Icon of Sin in Urdak it broke the seal on Urdak, allowing the demons to enter it. The Icon acted like a giant beacon for hell to flood into it.
no no no both of you are right but thats in eternal
im talking about the initial barrier that hell had
Ah. Hell's Barrier always exists. Even by the end of TAG. The trouble is that Hell is always pushing against its barrier, and corrupting people outside of it, resulting in it creating many gateways through the barrier and out of it.
It's always getting punched into like swiss cheese by people outside of it to let the demons out.
But also it can happen by accident, as shown by the UAC in classic doom when they opened a gateway into it unintentionally.
Lol fr
But yeah. Hell won't stop existing or stop trying with the death of Davoth. Even with him dead, Hell has existed for untold ages as it is. It is inextricably Hell's nature to seek out and corrupt and conquer worlds and dominate all. Davoth's death essentially resolidified the barrier, but new holes will be made. It's inevitable. But now without Davoth, Hell is weaker than its ever been. Without that dominating will from Davoth, it will now be all the easier for the Slayer to eventually destroy it.
I know the true reason of Argenta civil war
Oh so there's a chance that the slayer ends his mission once and for all
I would love to see the game where he accomplishes his goal
It is his ultimate goal to eradicate hell. And he's already come close once. So yes I think so.
A freakin full auto vs sticky bomb debate
Ah yes some argentian jar of mayo gained sentience and talked crap abt novik's fondness for sticky grenades
Then they started killing eachother
doom the dark ages is probably one of the best games of this year
it is so fun and the combat feels fresh but a lot simpler to 2016
just saw now, hell yeah
theres so many awesome ppl in the community and i hope as many of them as possible got sent one as well cuz they all deserve it ❤️
Why does my game keep crashing? My pc can definitely run it, it usually happens when i throw my shield or melee
Could it be the microcode on my cpu being outdated?
can't think of someone who deserves it more after making such an awesome soundtrack
So true, DUSK is peak and TAG was banging!!!
i really enjoyed his work on Prodeus as well
Nether goes crazy
I do think though that some of the arrangements are weak. Nether works because the whole track builds up to that section in the last two minutes or so, but in other tracks like Cables & Chaos, they lack the impact that Nether has in the heavier sections, so they kinda fall flat. They’d benefit from a traditional verse-chorus arrangement
@kind knot
when i say max sliders, its all max. Says it in the vid descrition too. I know some people want me to show the settings. But doing that after every try is more tedious than the game is haha 😄

i did play it a lil but that was a long time ago
I just grind the main game. I think I'm just a campaign type of guy lol
I like Eternal campaign more than Battlemode, SVS, etc. I like Titanfall 2 campaign, Doom I and II, I'm just boring ngl
i think most people would be the same
I always feel like I should be doing more. But then I remember I'm old and tired
ive put alot more time into the ripatorium than any other side mode from 2016 or eternal
that's fine, not everyone is meant to be sweating in multiplayer
i enjoy it alot
compared to the horde mode in eternal lel
ive put idk maybe 10-20 hrs in the 2016 mp
and close to no hrs on battlemode
i grinded Battlemode like it was life and death
god i wish invasion wasnt cancelled, i remember it sounded kinda cool on paper
all trophys was possibly the hardest video game thing i have ever done
lol i can imagine
REAL, rip Invasion mode
I can't believe Christmas is so soon. I can't wait to show you guys what I got from Josh
Have to wait though til Xmas
Hell yeah
I didn't touch battlemode because I was disappointed in it not being classic deathmatch, although looking back i admit it's interesting and unique concept, i expected them to expand upon 2016 MP (which unfortunately didn't took off)
yeah i pretty much feel the same
i do appreciate its uniqueness but its just not my thing
PEAK dude, looking forward to it!(its the Jacket isnt it lol)
It's stuff
Holy moly
LM getting a wholeass set of Doom stuff before the DLC
Peam it is
It’s the DLC trailer, I’m calling it now
lmao
DLC trailer for Christmas would be a neat gift
OMG that would be wild
lmao
It's the next Doom game, early early release
I have deleted the save that had the glitched armor. SURELY this new nightmare save will grant me 150 armor like it’s supposed to.
maybe
Cuz it being 80 armor at Enhanced Ahzrak was BS.
Kewl
the only glitch I encountered so far is 2nd gore nest on Khalim not being cleared after all demons were killed, kinda funny it happened when I was revisiting the level
Do people count ultra nightmare as valid if someone completes it with the damage and other sliders changed well in their favour?
Who gives a shit lol, do yo thang
I get it, I kinda liked Battlemode on PS (had to to get that platinum) but it was way beyond my capabilities on PC lol. Effect and Cause is still one of the all time greats
Expedition 33 just been found using Ai assets
imagine for the DLC Daisy was the final 𝚋𝚘𝚜𝚜 𝚕𝚒𝚔𝚎 𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚢 𝚠𝚎𝚛𝚎 𝚛𝚎𝚂𝚞𝚛𝚛𝚎𝙲𝚃𝚎𝚍 𝚋𝚞𝚝 𝚊𝚜 𝚊 𝚍𝚎𝚖𝚘𝚗. 𝚆𝚘𝚞𝚕𝚍 𝚝𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚋𝚎 𝚌𝚘𝚘𝚕 𝚘𝚛 𝚠𝚑𝚊𝚝?
TDA chat is the new general chat
Eh dunno
RAHHHHHHHH
That snow looks delicious
I'm gonna devour that shit
Where
average day in Russia
I was just playing it yesterday I'm having a fantastic time with it
It's prob some miniscule use of ai
Doom the dark ages dlc snow level leak???
Bruh you shpoiled everything
can't believe i done that
Hell froze over looks quite diff
Maybe an undiscovered arena
I've heard so too
They used gen ai to make placeholder assets before replacing them with the intended, self made ones
Bruh
That's like common practice now
Not a big deal tbh
Game's amazing tho
I actually put down the podcast stuff so I can engage with the story
I found the visuals and storytelling great
The game is turn based so... Meh
Overall a pretty solid game
My first time with a turn based and I'm having fun
Parries are tough to nail but I like mixing my attacks
how far into the game r u
Gestral village
Before going into the chiefs house
lol nice
Just doing some side quests
Oh I see
I mean it's nice and all
Not really my cup of tea that's all
Oh I can understand
I do play Honkai Star Rail once in a week
What is it guys?
Clair Obscur : Expedition 33
And turn based combat yapping
K
vanilla flavor
Fr
Today I replayed Halo 2
based
I love Halo trilogy, it has that sense of adventure (and so do Doom reboot games)
Peam
What ambient played in chapter 8/9?
as well as chapter 6/7 (siege part 1, siege part 2)
@spark elm you should probably find it in the soundtrack art book on steam
I see. I figured unyielding would play on Khalim.
Oh I have the digital art book on Xbox.
Making a playlist with the ambients on Apple Music, it starts with Unyielding.
Maybe it’s last bastion for chapter 8/9?
Transdimensional
Onslaught of the Damned
It does yes
Inb4 somebody finds the chapter count hilarious
Why does my game keep freezing? My specs are in the reccomended, ive updated my gpu drivers and verified game files on steam aswell,
Last bastion is Sentinel Command Station and From Beyond (Hellspawn Rift) Ambiance
Probs have graphics too high
Eight time. The plasma not that bad espcially dual wielded.
I hope not
So 14 is titanic prison then. 15-18 are all cosmic sea.
Yup, and 19 is Sentinel Barracks
the graphics are on medium, but it happens even on handheld graphics, if it helps im using rtx 3070 with a 1080p monitor
Cpu?
i7 14700kf
before i launch the game it does reccomend updating the microcode in bios but its probably a gpu issue
It's def this then lol
Try rolling back an update then re-update
im on 0x123 and it said its better to upgrade to 0x12b, ill look online how to do it since if i try it right now ill proably break something
thanks for the help though
𝚈𝚘𝚞 𝚗𝚎𝚟𝚎𝚛 𝚔𝚗𝚘𝚠...
It'd be corny, I'll pass :p
-# Also what the heck is going on with your font there buddy
Yeah that wouldn't really work imo
Also the khan maykr offers to revive daisy for the slayer in sentinel prime if I remember correctly, that line wouldn't really make sense if it had already happened earlier in the story
Also we know it'd just be another icon of sin situation so xD
Oh there's a video with an hrs worth of easter eggs in dark ages
There's:
Dev paintings
Bloodborne
Movie 300
Pacific rim
Robo Cop
Oblivion
Godzilla
Saturn devouring his son
Attack on titan
Terminator
Dantes inferno
Lord of the rings
The list just keeps going
Pacific rim makes sense since it's hugo
𝙽𝚘𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚐...
There is a reference most gamers missed. When you complete chapter 5, "Holy City of Aratum", you feel tired as fuck, because the chapter lasts an eternity...
What is it
an eternity...
Still over my head
Oh my god vro DOOM Eternal 😭
I'm making fun of the fact chapter 5 is like half an hour of dragon gameplay
Eh
My fav reference was the aot one
I did not realise the statue infront of the saturn painting was doing the scout regiment pose
City of aratum is peak wdym xD
Also reminds me of when Samuel Hayden nearly says "eternal doom" in urdak but then corrects himself and says damnation instead
I like it but holy shit is it long
Spire of nerathul is worse imo
Dragon gameplay is fun, especially on 120% speed
Oh and emerson tung helped this youtuber find the easter eggs
So they're not out of nowhere
𝙻𝚘𝚕
Emerson Tung Tung Tung Sahur
Hor hor hor hor hor
Which one was that again
Five nights at emerson
The one where you free the ancient one
Man that level could last half the game and I wouldn't be mad because the music is absolutely stellar
The one where you free the old one to get to the cosmic realm
And first encounter the komodo
Also I actually prefer the music in city of aratum to the one in spire
True
I still think unchained predator was criminally underused
Only plays in one level and even in there the good part kicks in like twice
Steel Beyond the Grave is my personal pick for most underrated
Anyone remember where it plays? I'd love to replay that level just to hear the sick music
Hell levels just keep stealing the spotlight man
Untitled, Damnation, Infernal Chasm, the list goes on
Resurrection I'm pretty sure
Goated level also
Sweet, thanks
Yeah that intro gave me insane chills the first time through. So unexpected
Oh wait that's Harbor of Souls lol
Battle on the blackened tide goes incredibly hard also
That entire level is just aura farming and hype moments
TDA's OST is just underrated as a whole
Loved Mick's computery shit but this is more traditional metal and I'm all for it. I appreciate the usage of more orchestral sounds like choirs and strings
I don't think the industrial style of Mick Gordon would fit tda's setting that much
Absolutely but he's proven with Wolfenstein that he's capable of making more serious and grim soundtracks so I think he'd still do a good job if rehired
I'm sure he could probably still do a soundtrack for it and it'd be goated but I meant the style eternal and 2016 went for
That wouldn't really fit tda
They should look into getting Kevin Schilder and Chris Vrenna back in the future. I really like their work
But some tracks in tda already have those industrial type instruments used in them and it works, personally they're some of my favorite tracks in the game
But if you just put eternal's ost in dark ages it wouldn't work imo
Eternal's is too industrial for tda is what I'm trying to say basically
Yeah I get it and I agree
Each game's OST perfectly fits it. Wouldn't want to change any of them in any way, and this applies to pre-2016 games also
Doom 3's ost is 12 minutes long lol
Still managed to throw in a few leitmotifs
Well yeah the most iconic is for sure the main theme by tweaker, it's even referenced by Mick Gordon in harbinger I'm pretty sure?
Hey one of the guys responsible for the main theme later returned for Quake Champions and it went turbo hard. So I say rehire
My favourite thing about TDA ost is that you can instantly identify whether people actually listen to metal or not
Guys in ch 16 the encounters not llading
When the shadows lengthened is so good
oh yeah, Vrenna done really good job on bringing the more Quake 1 style music
tbh i dont even listen to metal but i prefer the tda ost over the other 2 before it, maybe its the doom bias idk
i still love all 3 osts tho
Always loved the fact that he included a part of the original Quake theme in his QC theme. It's that loud bam bam bam bam bam sound that plays near the end of the original theme
"bam bam bam bam bam" 🗣️ 🔥 🔥 🔥
I just love the sheer power in TDA ost. It's heavy , brutal and relentless.
I don't know how else to describe it 😭
i get it since I marathoned all of Quake and its expansions 2 years ago
I'm gonna be real with you guys
Ive never played a quake game in my life
audible gasp from the audience
Same except for half of DoE and all of SoA
And it was like a month ago
It was so fun going thru machinegames expansions, i once stumbled upon secret level and had to axe an shambler
yep
I probably should right xD
im still in shambles after hearing that one review of some guys on a podcast and one of them said he turned off the music and played his own music in the background
im sorry but what kind of reviewer does that
Actual philistines
Uncultured swine
he just starts laughing and then the others start laughing like what are we doing bruh
okay but this kinda hate on the tda ost has to be forced right
Clueless ignoramus
and they are like fairly big reviewers
Missing out on GREATNESS
People just don’t like metal ig lmao
but eternal's ost was praised so
The TDA ost has a couple misses but as a whole it’s some really good metal
pick a side 😭
Imagine being anti-metal. METAL IS LIFE. And the dang metal tracks are freakin metal.
im not anti metal but most metal ive heard isnt for me but i dont see the point in being anti metal and hating on shit just cuz i dont like it
>buys a game from a franchise known to have a metal soundtrack
>looks inside
>metal soundtrack
Eternal’s soundtrack is really far removed from something like thrash or black metal which is what TDA’s soundtrack mostly leans on
It still is “metal”, but they’re completely different sounds
like I said, 2016 and eternal are more industrial metal
Steel Beyond the Grave is a standout among other standouts, I think SBTG is kinda sludgy which is cool
that one has been growing on me
Who were they
And who does that normally
Just playing their own music, it ain't even mixed right!
Colossus unleashed
Ew
