I think they were a thing for a while under this and I like to think this was one of a few different things that tied into what made Doomguy a happier and more adjusted person by this point. And then the Maykrs come along and the Seraphim tosses him in the Divinity Machine, then he's brainwashed by the Tether for a couple years straight, and now we get their relationship in TDA - Thira is one of the only Sentinels who vouches for him still, but the Slayer still barely regards her. There's a bit of something there, but it's based in a relationship that is no longer possible because the Maykrs have stolen the Slayer's humanity from him.

IMO their fear comes less from the Slayer's power and more from the fact that the Maykrs control him. In Eternal's Codexes their attitude toward the Slayer is very heroic and respectful, and I think that's because they're coming from a place long after TDA happened, where he proved he intended to protect them of his own volition. But TDA itself shows that despite their worship, the Sentinels and the Maykrs seem to have a very tenuous relationship - Thira is quick to pull the Kreed's ear by reminding him that losing Khalim means losing energy, implying they know there are selfish motives, and then Novik says this about the Heart:

“If what they say is true... then this is a part of our heritage. Not the Maykrs’.”
I think there's a lot of distrust surrounding the Slayer, not because he's superhuman (everyone seems fine with Thira wielding a Wraith's powers) but because a beloved comrade of theirs has been irreparably warped and now he's seemingly just a really big gun for the Maykrs to aim at whatever they want. A gun with their friend's face on it. A gun that, if the Maykrs were pissed off enough, could be aimed at the Sentinels.

I suppose I just don't really vibe with the Slayer being under Maykr control for so long since for me it makes some of the narrative events feel a little late. With how irresponsible and uncaring the Maykrs seem to be, I have a hard time believing that it took years of selfish actions for the Slayer to finally build up enough rage to overcome the tether. His anger is fueled by passion for the defenseless and injustice against them, surely the self-centered race of "gods" that control him weren't reasonable up until the events surrounding TDA. And if they weren't, surely it didn't take years for him to overcome the tether.

Also the conversation that Thira and Novik have following the first turret segment at the end of Kahlim doesn't strike me as a discussion they would have years after the Slayer was put under Mayker control

That reminds me, I think the Kreed is actually more innocent than we think. We see him choose to shoot Ahzrak and turn down his offer. Then off screen he talks to the Maykr ministry, and the next time we see him he is working for Ahzrak. This is because the Maykrs are corrupt and working with Hell for energy supply, they told him to work with Ahzrak. When we fight the Kreed, he says “I’m only doing what was asked of me!”

I do personally like to think it took him years to overcome the tether because it emphasizes that the Maykrs actually had a lot of power over him - I think that kind of makes the tether's effects more serious in how they've affected him, that it took years for all of this awful shit to build up enough that the tether could no longer overwhelm it. I also think it wouldn't just be about the tether, but about the Slayer's mind adjusting to the Divinity Machine.

I think this was the perfect time for them to Tether him - because the Divinity Machine was surely a traumatic experience, and I think if he hadn't been captured, he would've spent a while just, kind of, hibernating or recuperating, collecting himself before he could keep going.

Speaking of the assistant, I kinda wanna see more of him. There was basically nothing of substance to him in TDA, but I really like his character design. A broken halo is a unique look for the otherwise pristine Maykrs

Here's what I think about the Kreed's whole thing:

• Thira says the Kreed will be executed if he leaves his post. Kreed is clearly terrified of the demons, he's selfish and cowardly.
• Ahzrak pulls a typical Hell move and exploits the Kreed's fears:

“You... are stranded in this realm. There is no one... left to trust. That is why you allow me to speak... Help us.”
Ahzrak is exploiting the fact that the Kreed feels abandoned by his brethren, and has nobody left to trust. This line is important. The Kreed trusts nobody, not even the Khan Maykr and her Ministry.

I think Kreed entered this "pact" completely of his own volition, and for no other reason than because he feels betrayed by the Khan and believes the only way he can survive this war is to make nice with the demons. When he says "I was only doing what was asked of me!", IMO he is not talking about the pact, but about his brainwashing and capturing the Slayer.

I don't believe the Kreed's actions were sanctioned by the Maykrs. They're telling the truth when they say this at the end of TDA. Ahzrak was also acting of his own volition; he's not ruling Hell, he's proving himself worthy in the eyes of the High Council. i.e. the High Council does not command him.

I think Ahzrak and the Kreed's correspondences paved the way for the Khan's agreement with the Dark Lord later down the line. Sometime after TDA.

I think they will reveal that the Khan Maykr’s alliance with Hell happened much earlier than we thought, but we’ll have to wait and see

I also think this lines up with Eternal's Codex. The Codex says the Sentinels never suspected that the Maykrs had gotten in bed with the demons, only that they were very suspicious of the Essence. When the Night Sentinels discovered Nekravol, it was by complete chance during a routine mission within Hell.

IMO I think it fits that when Novik says they will do their own investigation of the Kreed's actions, they come up short. "Hmm, seems they were telling the truth. The Kreed really was just acting on his own..." then the rug is completely swept out from under them when years later they discover Nekravol.

I think TDA sets up the idea that the reason the Sentinels were so surprised was because their previous suspicions were outright debunked, so they thought they had reason to trust them again.

Yeah. Part of this IMO is that manipulating others is incredibly common for Hell. We see them do this to five people across the series.

But the Maykrs don't do what Hell does. Hell deceives people and exploits their fears so they can consume them later. The Maykrs didn't want to kill or conquer anyone, they just wanted to be worshipped. I do not believe the Khan Maykr would have come up with the pact herself, and contacted Hell herself.

IMO, the opposite seems more likely. In a stroke of genius, the Dark Lord of the First Age contacts the Khan Maykr after learning of the Transfiguration, and he knows the Maykrs can be manipulated because of the Kreed. He reminds her what Hell's Essence is capable of, since Sentinel Energy alone is not staving off the Transfiguration, and strikes a deal. "Keep this war going and give us victory, and we will give you what you need to keep your minds intact."

The Maykrs are fucking evil, don't get me wrong. But IMO the Khan was not "let's put our own worshippers in the shredder lmao" evil until after the pact had already presented itself as an opportunity.

Important to remember the Maykrs were subjugating people long before the Transfiguration was ravaging them. Only the pact is because of Transfiguration. The Maykrs were not actually under threat of Transfiguration until around the time the Slayer rose.

When the Maykrs approached Argent D'Nur it was not with the goal of survival (though earlier drafts of the lore had this intention). It was just to be worshipped.

Interesting idea.
As far as Eternal posits, the Transfiguration is supposed to be a normal and natural thing for Maykrs. Maykr bodies degrade, the consciousness is transferred into the Maykr Singularity, new Maykr is born. But the Singularity requires the Father to function, so when the Father's Life Sphere is stolen from Urdak, the Maykrs are now trapped in their bodies as they degrade.

In typical sequel fashion it is possible they could retcon how that is supposed to work. They've done this before. Eternal outright retconned a lot about Argent D'Nur that 2016 established.

That's fantastic! If you'd like a biology perspective, I'd be willing to bet that the Modern Imps and the Stalkers share a common ancestor rather than the Modern Imps as a direct descendant of the Stalkers. The hint is in the hands. In biology, once a trait is lost, it can't come back. It's why humans and our descendants have 10 fingers and toes, but go back far enough (and I mean Devonian-age, Ichthyostega era), you'll find our ancestors with upwards of 14 fingers and toes. So, with the Stalkers having three fingers and the Modern Imps having four, it suggests that the Stalkers have the more derived condition than the basic Modern Imps. You're spot on about the Arch-Viles though, they're clearly related to the Stalkers and are either a sister taxon or a direct descendant, a la anagenesis

Demon biology is very interesting to me; one of my favorite things is that Doom 2016's Mancubus appears to be a Cacodemon variant rather than an actual Mancubus, as its head is nearly identical to a Cacodemon's and it attacks the same way. I like to think they're selectively-bred Cacodemon breeds.

Alright, so the TDA Arachnotrons have four red eyes grouped in pairs on either side of the face, a small pair of antlers above the eyes, and a nail-like protrusion on the fore- and back legs. The Baalgar shares a similar eye arrangement, a much larger, more impressive pair of antlers (that could be indicative of the creature reaching sexual maturity; hard to tell without more specimens), and a massive nail-like protrusion on the wrist. The TDA Arachnotrons have a soft, fleshy, wrinkled body that vaguely resembles a brain, but based on the glorykills, we know this is just coincidence as there is no brain matter behind their flesh, only soft parts. As an insect metamorphoses, its soft, fleshy, wrinkled body will develop a hard exoskeleton to preserve its internal organs, similar to the Baalgar's carapace. The small arms next to the mouth of the TDA Arachnotron could very easily develop into the mandible of the Baalgar once the lower mouth parts fuse. Based on Edmontosaurus mummies, we know that multiple toes can be encased in a fleshy pad, with one keratinous hoof covering the pad. I think this is a similar story to the Arachnotron's and Baalgar's feet, with their toes encased in a fleshy pad and then covered by a keratinous sheath, but as the demon ages, the keratinous covering begins to split and fracture. Baalgar juveniles could be similar to cuckoos, functioning as brood parasites in true Arachnotron nests

My hypothesis is that the Classic Imps and the Stalkers are the same creature. In science, we try to disprove our hypothesis. One of the ways we could try and disprove that Classic Imps and Stalkers are the same creature is if we treat them as polyphyletic in a phylogenetic matrix. Essentially, what this means is that they will individually be scored based on their characteristics, and then once coded, the phylogenetic tree will either place them together or completely separately. If they are placed together, we can pretty concretely say they're the same creature. A similar story for the Arch-Viles. I'm not of the opinion that they share a direct ancestor/descendant relationship, but until further testing, that remains inconclusive

All we know abt DLC so far:

GAMEPLAY:
• Will expand mechanics from the base game in both combat and exploration
-Will be meaningful changes and not tacked on
-"from 2016 to Eternal"(to some extent)
-will increase mobility options
-new melee weapon(apparently rhymes with steer, it's a spear)
-the new things added change the game drastically and playing without them is hard to do for Hugo
EXPLORATION:
• Exploration has good backtracking and is especially required in this dlc(to progress meaningfully)
-There will be a hub(most likely the Kreeds ship)
• The puzzles are really fun

• a tool(mechanic) given will lead to some interesting traversal puzzles, not necessarily skill based like Eternal(but seems to be a huge factor either way based on its emphasis, and that will influence the puzzles and movement options in this dlc)
  -lots of secrets and "optional" content that unlocks over time, not all at once when the campaign is finished
  -some Metroidvania-esque elements
  ENEMIES:
  • There will be new ai that shake things up
  -Hugo replied "interesting" to a comment hoping for an Archvile in dlc(hopefully flame boi returns)
  STORY:
  • We will most likely be hunting the high council in dlc
  -dlc will expand the story in ways that people want
  • "Will there be cutscenes in dlc", Hugo's response, " It'll be different, but there will still be a story"
  -these cutscenss are infact more in line with 2016/more immersive and in first person
  -Marok is involved in the dlc(implies a larger role)
  -the witch won't be in the dlc
  -we will see more cosmic realm in the dlc
