Doom 1, 2, and 64 take place before DA. Those games look pretty modern in the timeline to me; e.g. there's the UAC, doomguy has modern gear etc. But then how come everything in DA (which apparently takes place afterwards) looks so medieval? Then we are back to modern times in 2016 and Eternal uwu

the dragon flying stuff isn't as bad as I worried it would be but I dont' really enjoy the dragon secrets
finally got the dreadmace, pretty nifty. How do folks tend to compare gauntlets with dreadmace? With the dreadmace, the nice thing seems to be:
a) the one hit is slower but faster than the total gauntlet combo
b) does aoe damage
c) if you keep a charge on reserve most of the time, then a single parry gives you a bonus charge, so you can basically always use it after blocking an enemies green attacks and staggering them.
The gauntlets, main advantage I can see is inflicting shock for when you want to finish them off with weapons after.
not sure how long the riposte cooldown is but it doesn't seem very long
I agree that the Dreadmace is better than the Power Gauntlets. The overall damage is more, and you don't have to worry about being hit while doing a Power Gauntlet combo.
Fully upgraded Dreadmace is insane.
I am glad people recommended the gauntlets over the flail to me here though. Once I started using them it definitely helped a lot on tougher enemies
the gauntlet combo seems to do as much damage as a pretty substantial number of SSG/chainshot/impaler/rocket shots
(the 4 hit combo)
Agreed, I'm doing a new campaign slot, and that's what I'm doing now. I just use the SSG against armored demons.
SSG is definitely good, but I think for me the implaer and chain shot are probably the top two.
SSG, Chain Shot, and BFC for me. Unless Shield Saw counts.
I feel like the shield saw and BFC are kind of their own things. but the shield saw is definitely fun to use
the impaler is pretty crazy too fwiw
the advantage is that almost everything activates its empowered shots, and its very flexible on range
while still doing competitive damage with the SSG, chain shot, and rocket launcher - each of which has more issues around range and activation
and that's before even touching the melee recharge
Got, yeah the slowdown Impaler mod is crazy. It gives you all the time you need to get a headshot.

I think the other argument I saw is that chronospike takes a moment to activate so you're actually losing more DPS there

Hey guys, do you guys think itās possible the levels in D64 with green and purple skies written into the lore as the cosmic realm? Obviously the games inspired by 64 being a direct sequel with the shared darker tone, the colorful skies as mentioned and nightmare imps coming back, but I believe itās possible the colorful levels of 64 could potentially be the Slayers first time visiting the cosmic realm. Something that supports this to me is the pain elementals form in 64, we donāt see them in TDA because theyāre ultimately replaced by revenants canon shooting the lost souls as rockets but if they showed up in the DLC resembling the 64 design this could confirm that. I donāt think that the Slayer would be able to make sense of the cosmic realm beyond being another threatening chunk of hell in his mind, but Iāve never seen anyone talk about this theory (maybe itās common sense and Iām stupid lol) but I wanna hear what others think abt this

Yeah it's an interesting idea, I doubt it's true myself cause of Hell not being allied with the Cosmic Realm at the time so idk how Doomguy would get there + Legacy of Rust reusing the green fire sky for regular Hell, but IMO given how flexible Doom lore is I would still say it's an interesting interpretation which would be cool so you should believe it if you like it

Doomguy has lost his mind going through warps in 64 taking him to a rainbow of different skies in Hell, none of which really line up with anywhere in the series other than Urdak and the Cosmic Realm, in my mind itās hard to discredit that connection because thereās potentially things from both of those places in 64 (colorful skies, Unmaker, the pain elemental being a unique variant to that game), and to me the how isnāt that important when Doomguy is the only man in his universe to find damn near every abstract manmade gateway between planets and dimensions without putting thought into the consequences

I run out of ammo quite a bit on it, and I look at the progress on Gatherer which is the mastery achievement. I cleared a whole encounter with the Ravager and it went from 14 to 18
Hmm yeah, I just gunned down a mancubus with it... No ammo. Didn't get health either
Well, it only drops health/ammo when youāre at max fire rate, not once you reach a certain threshold
So if you have the slow burn upgrade it takes a significantly longer charge time until enemies start dropping resources since the max fire rate is significantly higher
Also since the health and ammo are controlled by lootdrop, theyāre affected by resource sliders, so farming mastery for the ravager is more tedious on lower resources
Hmm got it, I don't think I realized it's only at max fire rate
Basically it only starts dropping stuff once the bar under the crosshairs fills up completely

I have to say I'm finding I jive less with the automatic weapons in this game. Single shot weapons seem to just fit the flow of shooting in between shield actions so much better
The thing about automatic weapons is that they almost always have higher sustained DPS than the single shot weapons (impaler notwithstanding)
Except unfortunately the ravagerās been neutered so oh well

Usually they don't bother with that much balancing in single player games
After update 2 the changes were insane
But thankfully they toned them down recently especially with the SSG
That nerf was absolutely tragic
SSG has seemed pretty good
Yeah itās very strong
But for about a month there it was both buggy and weak
It lost a bunch of armor damage and also wasnāt as effective against quite a few heavy demons
And worst of all, you couldnāt interrupt the reload animation to parry
Accelerator has also been performing really well. That video was the main reason I gave it another chance as the weapons feels off
Accelerator has the highest single target DPS in the game, funnily enough

I just got back to playing doom dark ages after taking a break for a long time and Iām stuck on a commander incubus because the last part of the shield will not go away after I kill all the other enemies. Is there something that I forgot since itās been a minute since I last played on how to destroy . The last little bit of shield.
Pretty much, though out of those three the pulverizer is probably the most useful
The csg drops pretty low armor for the low damage and high ammo usage, but the pulverizerās speed boost is actually pretty useful

Oh that's fucking hilarious. So real time path tracing tanks your FPS down to 25% your avg performance for basically no discernible difference in lighting rendering, and the muzzleflash from your gunfire STILL doesn't light up the environment like 2016 did.

Finally gave the grenade launcher a try today and got the mastery

Not nearly as bad as I thought
It's SUPER FUN to use that's for sure
Viability wise I still think the shredder outclasses it
But i played a few levels today and pulled out the grenade launcher occasionally in the name of joy and fun
Nothing beats shield saw stunning a heavy surrounded with enemies and spamming cluster grenades
Would be cool if you shot out a grenade in the air and shooting it does an aoe thing

I think it's firmly up there with all of the rest of the weapons now in the "fun and totally dependable" category
Now the only thing I have left to try is heavenly swarm
I just think the grenades need a bigger aoe
And the clusters
I have no idea why the aoe is smaller than the flail or blood sacrifice rocket
Buff the explosion radius a bit and the grenade launcher becomes goated
grenade launcher is just goated anyways
I think it's just a taad small aoe buff away from being goated
But it sits in the goat potential category
once you realize the exact arc of the 'nades then you can hide behind stuff and kill demons without exposing yourself
or you could do what i do and just point blank a cyberdemon with it
I've known that for a while but it just seems like a boring way to play this super chaotic and aggressive game
Especially since my main playstyle is hyperaggro
I use the grenade launcher as a chaotic nuke
Lock down a heavy with shield saw, start blasting it with grenades and watch the clusters that rain down clear out literally everything in the radius
This game has arguably some of the coolest guns in the franchise
Although I will admit that it sounds funny to occasionally bully cyberdemons from a high up cliff
While raining down grenades
I usually hate grenade launchers and stuff like that but they just made it so much fun
I don't think that's even arguable
And honestly everyone can hate me for this
But I've said it before and I'll say it again
The BFC is cooler than the BFG
Calamity blade is cooler
The only thing it's missing is a golden skin
Maybe as a dlc reward like how the golden bfg was a tag2 reward

I play better with the GL than the rocket launcher, I like rolling the 'nades
I prefer using pincushion, pulverizer and grenade for CC and rocket for heavy damage so I always use cooked
Problem is that the grenade launcher plays into direct hits for all the upgrade benefits
But direct hits donāt get you anything more effective than either the rocket launcher or the shredder
Parry charged rocket is too good to pass up for me
Blood sacrifice heals you significantly more than even cooked rockets
Hence why I rank it so highly
Especially against vagaries or if there's an armored mancubus you can farm parry rockets from

You really can't underestimate how important armor and health is in this game cause your options for restacking are so much more limited

combo damage is still significantly worse than the gauntlet/mace, but there's no scaling on consecutive swings, so you're still incentivized to go for hits here and there to restack instead of using it to burst down superheavies
also I got a mod that increases csg/ground fissure/flail armor drops which can pair rather nicely with it

If we go with the idea that thereās 8 levels, then that should mean 1 ambience and 1 combat track per level, totalling 16 tracks. If we are also hunting down the Order of the Six/Hellās High Council, thatās possibly 2 combat tracks per boss (based on the number of tracks per boss in The Dark Ages), meaning an additional 12 tracks, bringing the number to 28 songs. Thatās also not considering the opening and closing themes, so itās very possible that thereās going to be 30 songs for the DLC OST

metroidvanias are essentially 2d platformers with big open worlds
Been playing around with all the automatic weapons, and gotta say I found them all kind of meh, with the exception of the accelerator. Am I missing something or is this a pretty common take
Not terrible or anything. Just when I use them I can noticeably feel I'm making the game a little harder on myself. Compared to the Accelerator, or one of the big single shot weapons (Impaler/SSG/chain/rocket launcher)
shredder and cycler are very strong
Shredder is about my favorite weapon in the game
Getting its headshot bonus damage plus the Pincushion AoE burst damage is wild. You can really feel it on Superheavies. Itās great vs Ahzrak too
The cyclers gimmick is nice when its going but then when I need to fight something tough and it actually matters it's usually not very impactful
I will try shredder again. Honestly so far pincushion feels like a weaker and slower heatwave
Just with longer range. Which is nice but I'm not usually that far from what I'm shooting
if you play into the shock effect, cycler has ridiculously good crowd control, and is also excellent against bosses and superheavies because said shock makes them take extra damage from all sources, including melee
also ricochet is possibly the strongest crowd control ability in the game
That's an interesting point about shock and melee, though if you use gauntlet it doesn't matter
dreadmace 
I find cycler even with shock and its buff active still does less DPS than accelerator, though obviously I haven't measured
there aren't any weapons in the game that can beat a fully charged accelerator when it comes to dps
but cycler + dreadmace is possibly the second bess boss killing combo in the game
but also, if you aren't using the arc lightning falter with the cycler then you're losing some effectiveness
When you say crowd control are you talking about heavy demons or fodder?
you use the cycler for a little bit against some heavies, and the shock spreads to a couple enemies, then you start using it against the leader or whatever you need to kill
and every single time you need a falter, you just kill a shocked enemy that's next to the leader
works amazing with komodos especially because their fireball spam and lack of reliable parryable attacks means you don't get a lot of melee opportunities against them
The falter is just a normal brief falter isn't it? That seems like a lot of effort for a falter
it's a hard falter, meaning you can get in a full melee combo
or two dreadmace swings
and you can literally do it as many times as you want as long as there are enemies around
I've literally stunlocked a komodo through his entire health bar like this
granted, I was a little fortunate that the lightning mostly chained to fodder enemies so I could easily kill them, but still
he wasn't able to get a single attack off because I just kept faltering him over and over again
Yeah, enemies being around can be a pretty annoying requirement though. I get what you're saying, it's just the lack of consistency and mental effort to manage it. I will actively try to use it though

Heyo my fellow Slayers, have any of you find the combat and encounters with demonic leaders and a bit more difficulties after the past week's update? Also Caco's hell surge attack is very unreliable. Sometimes it starts to glow, makes the sound before it's about to launch and 75% of the time you get zapped by the attack and then the sound plays afterwards. Also did they buff the Komodo, made it's area of attack larger and succession attacks faster?

the aoe attack of the komodo was increased a couple updates ago iirc. the caco attack is indeed weird as hell atm

Same here, just wondering because I need to be super aggressive with these demons now. Can't give them any opening anymore, Agaddon as well some attacks have been nerfed but those friggin skulls tend to lock on you and there's no escaping it and it depletes your shield in one hit

Cacodemon has a single parry shot. Will use it at mid-far range, usually right after it spawns in or right after it shoots its purple projectile pattern.
Acolytes create gray copies of itself. Itāll protect itself with a shield until the copy is killed.

All we know abt DLC so far:
⢠Will expand mechanics from the base game in both combat and exploration
-Will be meaningful changes and not tacked on
-"from 2016 to Eternal"(to some extent)
-will increase mobility options
-new melee weapon(axe or Halberg)?
⢠Exploration has good backtracking and is especially required in this dlc(to progress meaningfully)
⢠There will be a hub(most likely the Kreeds ship)
⢠The puzzles are really fun
- a tool(mechanic) given will lead to some interesting traversal puzzles, not necessarily skill based like Eternal(but seems to be a huge factor either way based on its emphasis, and that will influence the puzzles and movement options in this dlc)
-lots of secrets and "optional" content that unlocks over time, not all at once when the campaign is finished
-some Metroidvania-esque elements

basically, play a lot on a difficulty which challenges you but doesn't feel super hard
don't consider myself well versed enough to give more advice than that lol
Try out different weapon/mod/rune combinations. Some go better together than others, based on your playstyle
like he said but if u want u can train yourself in horde mode (it's morgue but idk in english)
or use all your weapons to draw maximum utility from your arsenal
You can, but if you donāt know where to start, and are struggling/ failing, Iād recommend trying different combinations to teach you how to utilize specific tools
better to not get overly reliant on certain things
obviously you should work out some things about guns and their potential interplay though

im pretty good at eternal but i just cant get the parries down good i think

Turn off tutorials and see if you can bypass it that way

Belly of the Beast was a fantastic experience, didn't die once outside of some attempts at the first arena

Interestingly there's stuff I like about this game that Eternal lacks and vise versa
It's almost like this game isn't supposed to be like Eternal or something
My most used weapons are the SSG, rocket launcher and ravager (with the occasional grande launcher and impaler)

More grounded play mostly, air camping is too powerful, and a Slayer that can actually take punishment and not just have to dodge everything like a crack fueled monkey
