I wished for the swapping while blocking, but the blocking and cancelling the swap is cool

ssg is the only weapon that will benefit from it. but why you'd wanna switch between impaler and ssg is beyond me. Ssg's utility is super close range. at point blank range, you're better off shooting ssg only, than switching to impaler which is more midrange/long range utility

It works really well at close range too

because weapons aren't balanced around hotswapping
and because you have bunches of other actions you can perform to improve dps instead of just switching to another weapon

a point blank ssg shot is the highest damaging, i know impaler is strong too. but at point blank range, ssg shot outclasses it. the only benefit i will give it is ammo saving

I see what you mean. Essentially by cancelling the cooldown animation of the ssg with a weapon swap, regardless of which weapon you switch to, you are still gaining dps as a result of bypassing that cooldown animation
A better solution is to universally raise the weapon swap speed a smidgen to let people be able to play off each weapons effects,
like shredder pincushion detonated by cycler shock

Speaking of Eternal being too hard, here’s an interesting idea:
Does anyone think that Eternal’s later master level difficulties were for the sake of difficulty? If so, how would you guys like the master levels to be like in TDA?
What I mean for the “sake of difficulty” was that it was only focused on making it difficult, but not making it also fun
There were a few moments I feel like this, I felt it with Taras Nabad’s master level. Once I completed it, I never played it again. However, I didn’t feel this when I played the Cultist Base Master Level, I kept on replaying that level multiple times out of enjoyment
I don't really mind the difficulty in doom eternal's harder MLs like taras nabad, world spear, and mars core
I moreso have a problem with how they started turning every single nook and cranny of the level into tough/gimmicky encounters
I have no issue with these little mini-fights in between arenas, but when they start appearing literally every time you turn a corner (tough fights, too--not just easy ones that you can just blow past) it just turns the whole thing into a slog that I just want to finish and never pick up again

That’s how I felt too, majority of the combat arenas just feel more gimmicky. I don’t mind the occasional but I saw a lot of it in Eternal. I’d rather have just arenas focusing on pure combat with the most painful demon combinations
Cultist Base and Arc Level Complex were my favourite master levels
arc complex was too easy
cultist base was pretty enjoyable though, and the sgn master level is honestly the best doom eternal content I've played
Loved SGN’s master level, especially the end, the escape felt more stressful
But yeah, something like that optional arena in Belly of the Beast was something I’d enjoyed

osts a little bland compared to the other games and fully upgraded weapons are too op but it’s my favorite doom game right now

There is no particular need for quickswich, compared to eternal, it is not possible to increase the dps many times over
i just discovered something crazy and i dont think anyone else has talked about this yet
if you die on UN and then immediately quit to desktop during the death animation, you can restart the level you're on instead of restarting the entire campaign

its a master level its supposed to challange you in every way. for a single level to fit all that encounters i think its pretty fun. it shouldnt be treated as a normal campaign level but a challange run on its own
i feel like "gimmicky" has been turned into a rather vapid word or statement used to describe your discontent for something when you can't actually describe where your discontent arises
also many people seem to think that encounters should be made harder... without adding more demons a lot of the time? which i find somewhat strange
i don't really mind the encounter design for eternal's MLs for the most part, but there are some things they can definitively learn from them
arc/cultist base weren't even really MLs, taras nabad had a quite large discrepancy in difficulty between some arenas, anf the world spear was too drawn out
arc/cultist are explained by being made before the release of the game though
Unironically the glory kills. I say remove those entirely
Gimmicky in the sense that some people saw most of the arenas as like difficult minigames that stem away from usual combat encounters. Like the coin room or Archviles room in Taras Nabad. Not saying it’s a bad thing of course, love them, but I tend to wonder if they’re the reason why I haven’t played it again once I completed the Master Level

i was very dissapointed at the removal of glory kills but luckily theyre stil there you can get them by just r3ing them from the top

I can see your point, but with the game flow dark ages has they just ruin it in my opinion. The game’s pace abruptly stops
the archvile room was excellent due to it actually making the player engage with the archvile's mechanics
otherwise it's always this rather boring strategy of placing archies in some weird corner of the map, and rhe player immediately moving there, killing it and not actually having the archie do anything
same goes for the coin room, but with the buff totem, also, buffed enemies are way more interesting and engaging compared to normal enemies, i'd like to see way more encounters with buffed enemies
gimmicky in the sense that they stray from what the player is used to? absolutely
gimmicky in any weird/bad way? no
They worked in eternal and 2016 because those were super fast paced games and we needed glory kills as breathers. Dark ages still is a fast game, but the flow of gameplay is so well honed that i do not need moments to stop the fight because everything flows togheter
2016 and eternal also would've been better without GKs imo

I could not survive eternal without glory kills. Eternal was way too damn fast. 2016 maybe i could survive without glory kills, but 2016 feels more like a quake game.
i mean, the urdak level was almost entirely without glory kills because of the maykr drones, and i have never heard anyone complain about that
I think the dlcs ruined eternal for me, left me with a sour taste after completing them.

I agree and have never said they’re not bad at all, I love them. Those rooms plus SGN’s and World Spear’s are great. I’m just into more of the encounters in ML Cultist Base. What I felt for the ML Taras Nabad in my experience was that the majority of the arenas were not ordinary encounters and it felt more of a slog for me and I didn’t enjoy it as I thought I would but it’s a very small nitpick
So how goes life in the Dark Ages?
I can see that, but i realized in the DLCs that i didn’t really like the quick swapping mechanics or being forced to use the plasma rifle microwave beam to kill buff spirits. Too much stuff at some point.
Don’t you notice how the fight accelerates and in general it feels seamless?

When I say gimmicky, I’m usually talking about areas where the difficulty is created by things other than the actual enemies there—areas that have a certain gimmick
For example in the world spear, there are a lot of these—the no-jumping room, the arena where you were getting bombs dropped on your head, the purple goo, the cursed prowler + screecher fight, etc.
It isn’t like I’m opposed to difficulty, it’s just when you include so many of these gimmicky encounters (yes I said it) it just starts to become not really enjoyable for me personally

Well, I recently played Doom: The Dark Ages and I couldn't play anything else for more than 2 weeks. As soon as it came out, I finished it 100%. I've accumulated more than 6 days of play in a row.

I think also people arent playing too much because of the mandatory ray tracing and since most people have not so good computers they dont bother buying or playing it
the game right now is significantly harder than on launch (less death protection, harder early game encounters), and tomorrow's gonna buff the late-game encounters as well
which does suck but i got a new one a week ago and its been amazing so far for me

I'd highly recommend you turn the parry window down
that by itself makes the game far more difficult/rewarding
So if we're all patient enough we're gonna have a bunch if master levels, new game modes, a meaty dlc
And a lot of sliders to mess around with aswell
even without tweaking anything other than the parry window, I found it significantly harder than 2016 and even a bit tougher than eternal
default parry settings are far too forgiving

the first 3-4 levels of 2016 are tough as balls but everything after that becomes quite easy

idk it feels like the least viable gun in the game
not great against single targets unless they're M E G A W I D E
and against fodder you can just shield charge/shield throw and that consumes no ammo
the only thing it really gives you is the speed boost
which might be really useful but I'm not really good enough to see it

nah barons aren't wide enough to get hit by all the pulverizer's projectiles even when he's within melee distance
the ravager or one of the plasma guns is much better against them
in that case which enemies are the best for the pulverizer

gotta say, this combat shotgun might be my favourite of the modern doom combat shotguns
and it actually has good range
and decent damage output with the tripple burst fire
i still prefer the SSG for its insane damage at close range, but I love the fact that the Combat Shotgun now has a significant use as a survival tool

sticky bomb combos are good but kinda hard to pull off at least for me
this one is just really good
with the triple shot you instantly burn demons and get armor

me neither. What i like about DDA over Eternal, is that(I'm a console player) you can play DDA without the weapon wheel, because keymapping is more flexible since you have less actions. so you can map every weapon to a button and avoid the weapon wheel completely without missing any functionality
In doom eternal i could only map two weapons. the other keys had a useful function i couldn't give up

I see what you mean, but the Vagary is already a really large demon, it's spider like, shoots projectiles and hazards, even 2016's mastermind wasn't hitscan. If it were to be in the game, it has to be the largest enemy ai, which means it takes up a lot of arena space. Then it has to be the 4th hitscan enemy. I would love it don't get me wrong but it needs some good defense

Dark ages paced its boss fights really poorly imo. It had 4 solid fights and squished them together which made it feel less fun
it almost feels like cheating but it does take a little while to get fully charged so it's still fairly balanced
