Preaching to the choir here. The main problem I have with those mixes of the Eternal tracks is in the arrangement. Not to go too in-depth, but amateur cross fades are used between stems, unnecessary and confusing hard cuts, and pops and clicks among other bits and pieces. Being exported to MP3 at 320kbps isn’t ideal either, but neither is the same mixes lazily converted to FLAC from MP3 and then compressed by 1db for the CE OST

Well you could easily argue that every Doom game has an optimal 'way' of dealing with enemies in particular, even in OG Doom certain weapons worked better against certain monsters depending on the situation.

Like the only difference from Doom 1 to 2 is enemies like the Chaingunner, Revenant and Archvile forcing you to break line of sight, and that alone was crucial in changing up the gameplay because all you 'needed to do' in the older games was strafe incoming fire. In TDA it's the same, except instead of cowering behind a wall you're taking the fight to them with the shield.

I like how all modern Doom games manage to spice up the formula, if they hadn't ventured so far we wouldn't have had 3 games with their own particular identity and playstyles. One of the common complaints Doom had in the late 90s and mid 2000s with Doom 3 was that the formula was already quite stale, and the games weren't offering anything new in the landscape at the time. 2016, Eternal and TDA all helped breath new life into the series.

Of them all, TDA is my favorite right now. I had a honeymoon phase with all three of them but overall I'd say they all had their strengths and weaknesses.

I finally finished TDA last night, overall I think it’s a 7/10. Combat is fun, level design feels like classic doom and it looks great, but it just doesn’t hit the highs of the previous two games. The story and characters are somehow more boring that Doomslayer, Vega and Hayden from 2016/Eternal despite the story having way more emphasis, the lack of glory kills really are a downer and the soundtrack overall is a huge step down. The last two missions get some good beats going but it’s not nearly enough and way too late.

I will say that the highlight of the game is ||Doomslayer dying, fighting through hell as a zombie, killing Charon and taking his ship to ram it into the gates of hell was metal af and the highlight of the game||, and I wouldn’t even mind a sequel that shows how much damage Doomslayer caused before he finally gets brought down until his resurrection in 2016.

Man in my DOOM 2016 Nightmare replay.... I'm on the Rich Get Richer rune trial on Lazarus Labs (because I'm trying to get 100% secrets and challenges and items)....

And wow I hate the 2016 rune trials so much.

I'm exceedingly grateful Eternal and Dark Ages removed them.

The Rich Get Richer rune trial is literally the worst thing ever. Not even exaggerating.

Also remote detonate rockets are ridiculously weak.

They're such a gimmicky waste of time. We found it, let us have it. Just like eternal did.
I do like the challenges to better them. For when you start a new playthrough, but I guess at some point even upgrading them can be a tiring process

The way the remote detonation rockets works in the trial is the weakest and most useless weapon ever.

Also it's nearly impossible to dodge the two Spectres, while soldiers, imps, and Hell Knights are also harassing you.
